love this place
I went here for brunch and it was simply– in the best way possible–FUN, on all levels...the atmosphere, the menu, the drinks. The food had complex flavour yet was simple. Amazing, as all Roy Choi restaurants!

Went with a colleague for a quick bite after work on a Thursday night around 7:30. The bar area was surprisingly pretty busy so we decided to eat in there for some people watching. I ordered the Jamaican Lamb, which was delicious! I would definitely recommend the Sunny Spot

Glowing Review of Sunny Spot!
After hearing amazing things about Sunny Spot from a number of friends I went last Saturday with a group of 4 girlfriends. We had a wonderful time! The service was amazing (LOVED our waiter), the food delicious and the drinks very tasty. Prices were also fairly reasonable, especially considering how upscale this place is. I will DEFINITELY be going back!

This was my second visit to SUNNY SPOT. The scene is vibrant along with the decor. The rum drinks are refreshing and compliment the Caribbean fare. The Jamaican roasted lamb is worth checking out.

Carribbean in Venice
A really fun neighborhood spot -- a great happy hour menu with yummy five dollar specialties, like fried plaintain or sweet potato fries. The Carribbean vibe, complete with a rum-centered cocktail menu, fits well with the Venice neighborhood. The noise level is pretty loud, especially on weekends -- believe it or not the outdoor seating is actually a little quieter.

Fun, quirky, & delicious
The simple, bright decor brings a smile to your face when you walk in. The food is well-prepared, great to share, & the staff is friendly & knowledgeable about the menu. We ate on the spacious, quiet patio. The noise in the bar area is quite loud, so the patio is a delightful respite from the indoor scene.
The service was wonderful.

The lamb was awesome! I want to try some of the other entrees next time.

Find in a "Sunny Spot"
On an unsuspecting corner in Venice Beach area Sunny Spot was more than we expected. We dined on a Saturday evening during Happy Hour. We ended up sharing apps between the 4 of us. Everything was delicious especially the sliders! Loved the Caribbean vibe! First time ever enjoying Red Stripe beer but it was on Happy Hour so couldn't go wrong. Light and refreshing!

Really fun atmosphere. Great patio area. Brunch was awesome!

great hangout spot for friends
Interesting, eclectic food. Would like to see a few 'traditional' brunch options. Great bottomless mimosas/drinks on Sundays. Really great, laid back and colorful Venice ambiance. Fun spot to meet up with friends. Waiters were nice but really slow service.

Fun, casual dining
Roy Choi's Sunny Spot is a great place to have a casual dinner with friends. I really enjoy the relaxed ambience, and the food is simply outstanding. It's like being at a beach bar, but with gourmet food!

Vibrant and fun...
The dining atmosphere is very fun..if you dont want it too loud, request the Rum Den....Appetizers were great, entree's let me down..except for the hamburger!! And the drinks were festive! I highly recommend this place for a fun night out!

I kept seeing this Sunny Spot
I kept seeing this Sunny Spot every day and thought, that place doesn't look good, boring exterior not that inviting. NEVER judge a book by it's cover. We were looking for a new place to eat and pulled out our LA Magazine Sept. 2012 and happen to see Sunny Spot.
Wow, the food was excellent. I do not eat spicy food at all but everything we had we loved. The beer battered fries was EXCELLENT, the ribs, the ox tail, etc etc. everything! I could handle everything I ate because it was seasoned perfectly and just a enough kick where I could handle.
This is a must try and I will be a regular.

A sunny day at the Sunny Spot
While venturing up into LA we thought we would give this place a shot. We were nicely surprised by how quickly we were seated, the friendly, attentive service, as well as "bottomless" cocktails. The food was really tasty as well as spicy. This is Roy Choi's spin on Caribbean, and I thought it worked nicely. Roy was there dining with his family, always comforting to see the chef in the house, especially when he runs several outlets and trucks. Diablo shrimp & Grits and Porkbelly and eggs were bomb. My son finished an order of the Blueberry pancakes, and promptly ordered another plate. That rarely happens. Roy, well done! We'll be back. Love this place.

This is a neighborhood GEM
This is a neighborhood GEM yet a place I would drive from another city to enjoy the great food and great prices. The ox tail pasta is excellent, the bear fried fries is delicious. You have to go to enjoy. As for the desserts, they can work on it. Other then that I have gone at least 3-4 times this month already.

Good flavors and well priced!
Roy Choi has an excellent palate and a fun way with food. The Happy Hour bar menu is a deal. My only complaint about Sunny Spot is the back dining room. It is nice and private, and quieter than the lively but way more attractive outdoor bar area. The back room is kind of dreary despite its attempt at hip eclectic decor. The room looks long in the tooth, and I think it's primarily because of the design, not wear and tear. The glassed-in "garden" looks like it belongs in a Miami steak house that is about to lose its lease after 20 years. He definitely needs a better graphic designer too: All of his restaurant logos and menu designs are also subpar. But it's the food that matters, and the food and service is EXCELLENT.

Venice's best brunch spot!!
LOVE coming to Sunny Spot for Brunch. Bottomless mimosas, cava, rum punch and bloody marys - all interchangable. Best yucca fries and the egg plate with skirt steak.
Be sure to make a reservation to sit out in the patio. Inside is LOUD. But the overall ambience is FUN FUN FUN!

Sunny Spot's brunch is just excellent. The $12 bottomless drinks are a great add. The staff is always extremely helpful and great.

First Time Diners
We were the oldest group there, but live in the neighborhood so wanted to give it a try. The food was very good; our server outstanding, patient, knowledgeable. The front patio is great - you can have a conversation. The inside bar area was packed and everyone seemed to be having a good time. Back dining room was empty but for one couple; I can't imagine they'd had a conversation because the music was waaay too loud. I would say the noise level was the biggest drawback to a great experience. We will go back to Sunny Spot with the caveat that we sit at the farthest-from-the-structure outdoor dining spot (except when it rains). Can't comment on all the questions because they do not apply to our experience. (We all had cocktails, not wine).

Really Delicious and Different
First time there and it was incredibly good. The shrimp was perfectly spiced and the oxtail pasta was amazing. Every dish had lots of flavors and the perfect amount of kick. Will definitely be going back!

Perfect summer hangout
It was our third time around, and we will keep coming back to Sunny Spot. The food is top notch, the service very good, and the atmosphere is just vibrant. The perfect spot for a perfect summer night out.

Delicious and relaxing brunch!
Brunch is awesome! The location is quiet and relaxing, yet seemingly quite popular for locals "in the know". Open air seating is popular on the walled patio area, though shady tables were spotty due to the limited cover of trees on a sunny day. The bottomless mimosas and rum punches made up for any sun exposure. The food was tasty, yet simple. For something a little unique, I tried the Diablo Shrimp and Grits - YUM! (and I'm not even a grits fan). My partner ordered the banana french toast (pain perdu for the authentically inclined) with rum creme and maple syrup. Possibly the best pain perdu he's ever eaten. A fresh fruit cup on the side made a perfect finish to the meal. Finished with coconut creme brulee with taragon lime syrup.

Are you going bottomless?
In addition to his China Town spot, Chego, A Frame in Culver City, and the roaming Kogi trucks, Roy Choi spreads his love of simple food and runny egg yolks at Sunny Spot in Venice. The hangover plate on a Sunday with bottomless mimosas is always just what I need, even if I'm not actually in recovery. I'm pretty sure you can call me a regular by now!

Great fun for hipsters of all ages!
The best of fusion food! The menu has something for everyone- all ages, groups and the often forgotten lone diner. Service is casual, laid back, and unobtrusive--but it works!
