World's Best Brussel Sprouts
I normally do not wax rhapsodic over vegetable dishes, but those brussel sprouts cooked in duck fat with balsamic are to die for. everything else excellent as well.

Had family visiting town, this was a great place to take them! Everything was excellent!

Great Rustic Italian
This place has innovative delicious dishes. I highly recommend the many small plates which can change with the daily specials.

Excellent dining experierience
Innovative menu selections. Attentive service. Great presentation. The restaurant is deserving of your business. You'll be a repeat customer.

Noisy but delicious
The two of us had dinner at Barbacco on a busy Saturday night. We arrived at Barbacco and were immediately offered our choice of sharing a table or sitting at the counter. We chose the latter to make it easier to talk. The place is loud but not overwhelmingly so. We were immediately offered complimentary water or sparkling water (I think they carbonate it themselves), a nice touch. Our order was taken in a timely manner. We started with a shared grilled vegetable appetizer, a nice assortment, wonderful flavors. Our mains came soon after we finished the appetizer, and everything we had was great. She had the bream and I had the Tuscan beef stew over polenta, and we shared grilled zucchini. Delicious! I would not hesitate to come back.

Dinner at Barbacco
My sister and I made an 8:00 reservation for Barbacco on a Saturday night. We showed up about 20 minutes earlier than expected, but the host sat us within minutes. We sat at the counter, which turned out to be fine since we weren't going for anything intimate. We started with the vegetable antipasto and burrata cheese appetizer. Both were delicious. We shared the beef stew, meatballs and risotto. The beef stew was amazing, while the other two were pretty good. We finished with the chocolate nemesis cake and gelato, which were both great.
I would definitely recommend Barbacco to anyone looking for more upscale food without the upscale price. This is not a place for an intimate date or private meeting, but it's great for friends and fun.

great food - ambiance and location
From several dishes we shared - each item was outstandingly delicious. The Hostess Katy is a gem.

Eating in a subway car
The food was fantastic. The dining experience was a bit contrived at the bar. It should have been more like a sushi bar with the staffer you are facing serving you as opposed to a server having to interrupt you, you turn around and then have to dodge the incoming food and drink. A lot of reaching and anxiety if the food coming in or dishes going out would fall. Other than that, lovely.

This is an ideal spot for lunch or dinner in San Francisco's Financial District. The pasta is always fresh and perfectly cooked and the salads are creative, filling and impeccably fresh. The service is friendly and professional, and the design of the dining room lends itself to socializing.

Quality ingredients prepared with true Italian heart and restaurant savvy. We ate at the counter, which we preferred over a communal table. I started with a whole sautéed sand dab, which was perfectly prepared with a micro lettuce garnish and a sautéed calamari with savory potato and herbs. Next we ordered the lamb and beef Sicilian meatballs with pine nuts in a sugo sauce; the restaurant's signature lasagna with delicate layers of thin spinach pasta with meats combined with cheeses and a light tomato Béchamel sauce; a hearty beef stew over creamy polenta, which was high on my comfort food list! Overall, we thought our food was clean, flavorful, balanced yet authentic Italian. We will definitely go back.

Wonderful spot with great food!
We came here while on vacation at San Fran to have a quick meal at the recommendation of a friend. The meal was excellent - notable were the fried polenta, the duck fat brussels sprouts (do not miss this one!), and the pork ragu. The service was excellent and we were happy to have made this choice.

Great service and food
Barbacco has great food, very attentive staff, and provides a great atmosphere for when my friends and family visit San Francisco. They are very good at customizing menus as well, in regards to food allergies. Communal dining.

The service was perfect, the waitress (Lindsay) is very kind and friendly, and the food was very good! We ate duck bruschettas and a main plate with squid. This was wonderful. I only suggest that the size should be bigger a little bit. It's not too small. I would say it's "medium".

Killer Brussel Sprouts
Get the Brussels Sprouts, they're some of the best in the city. The Bruschetta with burrata & corn is also delish. The service is superb, we sat at the bar and chatted for three hours and not once were we rushed or interrupted by the staff. I've been to Perbacco next door multiple times and I prefer Barbacco for its laid-back style.

Everything we had was very good. The winner was lasagna. Could tell that the pasta was freshly made. I liked the fact that it wasn't a huge portion. I liked brussel sprouts cooked in duck fat as well. The squid dish was small for an entree which the waiter told me before hand so with the veggie and appetizers we ordered, it was perfect for me. I thought the today's special seafood plate cooked in tomato sauce was fine but nothing special for the price we paid. Had a great wine but the cheapest red wine in a bottle was $60. Loved the complementary sparkling water. Overall I will definitely come back! Thank you for the delicious meal.

Love Barbacco, it is my go
Love Barbacco, it is my go to place for a nice yet casual place. Eating at the bar works out great when dinning with friends, would not bring clients.
9/3/2013 12:00:00 AM
a bit too noisy
The food and the service are great. But the need to speak loudly constantly in order to be heard by friends who are dining with me is very tiring.
9/5/2013 12:00:00 AM
Simply Delicious yet affordable
Apps are mostly Spanish inspired tapas but mains are Italian. Monthly wines & dishes featuring regional selections listed on back if menu were our favorites - no disappointments. From the hostess to the manager & everyone I between, service was spot on but not intrusive. We couldn't get reservations at sister restaurant Perbacco or Michael Mina nearby & were not only impressed with our tasty dinner but delighted by the bill which was half of what the other places would cost & we were stuffed! We sat at a communal table which can be hit & miss, it's a but on the noisy side, its also not a white table cloth place but we were happy to enjoy a simple experience as compared some more overought dining SF has to offer.
9/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food was absolutely amazing! If coming to this restaurant, the brussel sprouts are a must-try!

Casual client dinner
I took a client to Barbacco for a casual dinner. We shared a number of the dishes (probably about 8 total) and two wines by the glass. It was a great venue for a dinner like that, though you won't get much privacy as the tables are quite close together.

A solid spot
I've been here for a work lunch and for dinner with a good friend from out of town. Both were great experiences. This visit in particular was a late dinner with my friend flying in from LA. The service was spectacular. Case in point: my other friend and I had come straight from happy hour and sent the wine list away when we ordered for ourselves and our third friend from LA. When she arrived, she asked about the wine list and next thing you know, our waiter appears saying "did I overhear someone ask about the wine list?" and handed one to our LA friend. Really on top of it!

A friend recommended, very good ambience, not too expensive and great food and service. Also like the bar concept

Duck fat Brussels sprouts was yum.
Pasta cooked perfectly.
Flourless chocolate cake was amazing..!!
Service was friendly. Will come back!

If you don't mind noise, then this place is for you. Good food with a loud ambiance. The lasagna is to die for.

Great southern Italian food, with some unusual dishes.

Great food and I really enjoyed the 1/2 glass of wine in order to try different vintages. Very good atmisphere. Loved it

More casual sister to Perbacco
Food was adventurous. As a result, some was outstanding and some fell flat.
Did not like the almond pesto... Too subtle...
Salads were wonderful...

I picked this restaurant when we had booked a show in the area. I was not sure what to expect, and was pleasantly surprised. I am a vegetarian and my husband is not. Everything that I had was fresh, flavorful and vibrant. My husband said the same. The Brussels sprouts is fantastic and the almond cake desert was sumptuous. I will definitely be going back to this gem!

not the red sauce/overcooked pasta/too much garlic tourist, but real italian with local, seasonal, california twist .
10/9/2013 12:00:00 AM
Excellent, as always. Great place to introduce visitors to the exciting food scene in the city by the Bay.
10/10/2013 12:00:00 AM
bustling lunch crowd, great food
Had an excellent family style lunch with a colleague: a great way to break out of the salad / sandwich gravity well.
A. Bruchetta - the bread was ultra hearty with great variety of neo-traditional toppings, intense flavors. Very good.
B. Bean salad - quite good, hearty yet light flavors. Nice counterpoint to A.
C. Sicilian meatballs - light covering of sweet tomato sauce over several large, savory meatballs. Not your average meatballs either, think they had raisins and more Mediterranean spices. Awesome.
D. Pan fried brussels sprouts - Wow, these were great. Well paired with C.
Excellent service! Good beer and wine selection. Fun, bustling lunch crowd, reminds me of a modern bistro in Paris.

This was a very cozy place with great food and unusual choices. Everything was wonderful.

Great Ambiance for Dinner!
Definitely enjoyed the ambiance at this venue. The lighting was perfect, they had a TV with the game on. The food wasn't the best I'd ever had, but I think if I were to go back I would definitely order something else on the menu since the others that I was with very much enjoyed their food!
I would definitely go back!

Good Place for Drinks
Meet up with an old friend. It as expected good food, good company. Not a fan of communal seating though...
10/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
A terrific night once again...
This place just continues to be great. Food is really wonderful and inventive, but approachable and enjoyable. Service is clearly something they take seriously and do well at. For the space and seating style being mostly communal, there is still a sense of having your own space and being able to have a conversation with those you are with. Have the prosciutto-wrapped dates and the brussel sprouts among other deliciousness. Looking forward to going back soon!
10/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great food, great service, great atmosphere - and reasonably priced.
We were very happy with our overall dining experience.
Loved the small plates, especially the fried brussel sprouts.

The wonderful and inventive small and larger plates of food is the main reason to frequent this financial district restaurant as many times as possible. It never disappoints. Just don't try to conduct any financial business. Too loud. Everyone, including myself, was having too good of a time!,

Good place to meet friends
Barbacco serves authentic, cutting-edge italian cuisine in the laid-back environment.

I was thrilled to see the
I was thrilled to see the return of the lamb sandwich, though I missed the more tender shank pieces it used to have. The flavor was excellent, though, and the salad and homemade pickles alongside are always good. My waiter was sweet and attentive, but the hostess really put a damper on my experience. (I tried to retrieve my suitcase after lunch, and she did not believe that it was mine. I had to dig through the bag for my hotel receipt. I guess she saw my waiter take it over; if so, I'm stunned that she didn't recognize her co-worker. I understand that it's a tony neighborhood with lots of patrons going in and out, but she wasn't apologetic at all. It really spoiled an experience I'd looked forward to for a month.)

Delightful experience. Intriguing menu changes to highlight the food and wine from a region of Italy. Sardinia for November. Only disappointment was the soups and lasagna were only luke warm. Everything else was delicious.

Delicious Food Every Time
I've been to Barbacco many times, and each time the food is delicious, the service impeccable. I've dined in with my kids who are picky eaters but they love to come to the restaurant as this is now their favorite Italian restaurant. Like us adults, they like everything on the menu, especially the Brussel sprouts rooasted in duck fat, mushroom risotto, pork ragu pasta, etc. Everything on the menu is delicious. I'd highly recommend it to everyone.

Barbacco November 2013
The service was exquisite! Starting from the host, the general manager Andelino to our waitress behind the bar Chrissie, all provided us excellent service! I had to change my earlier dinner reservation to a later time. GM Andelino did his best to accommodate and kindly informed me that there might be a little wait for the new time. When we showed up, he kindly provided us an estimate of the wait and an update on our reserved table. Then a few minutes later apologize for possibly longer wait for the table and explained the reason. He offered an option to dine at the bar. We accepted. Chrissie behind the bar was our waitress. She was attentive, professional and patient with our questions. In addition to that, big smile!

Italian dinner near the Embarcadero
Barbacco is a great dinner find near the Embarcadero and Financial District. Our table for two was tucked away near the back so it was more romantic than sitting at the bar or front of the restaurant. Everything we ordered ;bruschetta, polpette/meatballs and orecchiette were delicious.Great selection of olives too!

Nice, Casual Place with Great Food
The cheaper sibling resto to Perbacco. The food is reasonably priced and really good.
11/22/2013 4:00:00 PM
honestly we got a drink at perbacco next door before dinner. im not a wine and beer girl and thats all they have at barbacco. however, that said the food is amazing, great salumi and cheese plate and i always get the "little ears" pasta!

The place is energetic, fun
The place is energetic, fun and the staff and atmosphere rocks...Food was perfect, prompt and the Balsamic roasted Brussels sprouts are to die for. The Lamb, and risotto were clear favorites of the table and the Nebiollo by the glass or bottle is money well spent.. we have been here twice now once as a couple, this time a foursome and both times same outcome and super value
