Something for everyone - from
Something for everyone - from vegetarian to good old corn beef. Great local pub feel with great beer selection. The bar was packed with a friendly & lively group. Live musice was a bit loud and made conversation difficult until we moved tables upstairs. Server was pleasant and attentive without rushing.

Character and fun
We had a group of 7 on a weeknight and were well taken care of. The place had a lot of neat character and looked like a lot of fun. I imagine weekends are busier, noisier, and more lively, but we enjoyed our quiet evening dinner. The service was exceptionally friendly and the food was quite good.

Good duck but the potatoes
Good duck but the potatoes and greens on the side had way to much salt. I couldn't eat them.

We went for a friend's birthday and it was the best fit :) The band that was playing when we got there was phenomenal and our waitress and food was outstanding! :) Our Sangria was the best we had in awhile! Can't wait to go back!

One of my favorite restaurants
One of my favorite restaurants in Philly. Great beer list, fresh food, reasonably priced, fun ambiance. Soda bread is best I've ever had. Love the half & half beer (Guinness/Harp) and Irish Coffee. My only request is that the bar menu options be added to the restaurant menu as I love the bar munchies but prefer sitting upstairs.

I think this was my fifth or sixth time at The Plough & Stars. The service is always great, and our waitress Kelly was exceptional. We informed her that we needed to get in and out quickly, and she recommended entrees that the kitchen could process quickly. Not only did the food come out fast, but it was very tasty (we both had the lamb kebab). Thjis is now our "go to" restaurant when we're seeing movies at the Ritz East or Ritz V theaters.

I haven't been here in a LONG time, practically since it first opened. My cousin was in town last night and he was staying in the Old City area so I figured why not see how the place is doing. I actually think it's better now then when it first opened (and I loved it when it first opened.).
The service was great, very friendly. Out waitress did get busy some times but was always apologetic about not "paying enough attention" even though we hadn't noticed. The food was great and the prices were fantastic!
I wouldn't hesitate to come back and the more the merrier if you ask me. The place is just designed for a fun night with a big group.

Food was very good, especially salmon and pork. The waitress was very pleasant and let us have a relaxed meal . Will definitely go back.

Great experience. The food
Great experience. The food was delicious, our server courteous, friendly, knowledgeable, attentive yet not intrusive. All around wonderful experience. I very much liked the selection of beers, which is why I checked above noteable wine list. I was disappointed the musicians were playing as advertised, but definitely would go dine here again. The musicians would have been the icing on the cake.

We made a last-minute reservation at Plough and the Stars. I'd been before many years back, but my fiancé had not. We had an outdoor table, which, for the most part, was lovely. We opted to split an appetizer (Crab and Veggie spring rolls), and I wish our server had advised us that the portions are not really fit for sharing. She was also not very knowledgeable about what beers were available. She was very friendly, though, and very attentive, making sure we had everything we needed.
Our entrees were amazing, portions were the perfect size -- enough to satisfy, but not to leave you feeling over-stuffed.
Oh, and I wrote "for the most part lovely" about our outdoor table, because we were approached by a panhandler during our meal.

Always a fun spot
Whether dropping in for a drink, a small bite at the bar or a full meal, the atmosphere is quality and unpretentious. Always friendly! The beer and food are excellent and the service is the best.

A True Irish Gem
We had a lovely dinner - with not a spec of corned beef/cabbage in sight! As the manager told us - "we only serve that in March for the tourists" - otherwise we serve good Irish food - we started with the mussels - excellent - great broth and plenty of bread to soak it up - dinner was the duck - cooked to perfection - and the salmon stuffed with a generous portion of lump crabmeat - we cleaned our plates! The bar area was full with a lively after work crowd - it was a Tuesday - and the dining room was full as well - a good sign of a great place to eat on a Tuesday night!
The restaurant is in a nice area of Philly - took a stroll down the cobblestone streets after dinner - nice way to walk off our very satisfying dinner!

2nd visit, enjoyed it!!
We visited our son in Phila. and love the Old City area. We had dined here once before and decided to return. There are many choices for dining in Old City and I recommend this restaruant. Both times we had delicious food. We shared the hummus platter sampler which we loved. My son had the filet special which he enjoyed, my husband had the tuna special which he devoured and I had a seafood dish which was on the regular menu...this too was delicious. The waitress was friendly and attentive. We enjoy the atmosphere of this restaurant and love sitting on the 2nd level overlooking the main floor. It was a beautiful evening so we then walked the neighborhood. Highly recommend dining at The Plough and the Stars!!

Great Little Gem
First evening on a trip to Phily, and, to be honest, I liked the name. The reviews in Yelp (I think) were good, so I gave it a shot. Was pleasantly surprised. Food was delicious; Waitress was knowledgable; Co-Diners were friendly; Ambiance (al Fresco) was very good. Excellant location in the Old City: Chestnut and 2nd.

Roomie Date Night
My roommates and I wanted to enjoy Restaurant Week and decided to go to Plough and The Stars. Our waitress was awesome and the food was even better. The salmon stuffed with crab is to die for and the leftovers were just as good the next day! The only issue was the lighting at our table was very dim and two of us had trouble reading the menu, good thing we could just lean over the other two to get some light.

I had never noticed this restaurant before because it's pulled back from Chestnut St. a little. But now that I know it's there, I'll be going back! Food was great, service was great. It's a place you could go to for a date or with a group of people. Overall, great experience!

This was our first time at this restaurant. The food was very good. I had a cheese steak sandwich which was prepared well with a crispy roll and my companion had the Guinness Stew - also very well prepared with mashed potatoes. The server was attentive and pleasant. There was an irish singer who was a little loud, but we enjoyed it for the most part.

More than an Irish pub
Nice, full menu (loads of fish) with everything reasonably priced--waiter was a hoot. We were on our way to the Arden for a play--just two blocks away. Highly recommended.

Love the Plough
This is a go-to spot for my family and I when we are in Old City and has been for years. The room is great, the service is always warm and friendly, food is good and the atmosphere is very inviting.

We had been to Plough and the Stars before so we knew what to expect - a fun comforting place to be with good food at a reasonable price. Our guests were from Hawaii so they really appreciated the fire. We had not seen them for over 20 years so it was important for us to find a place where we good talk about our lives and all of us had a wonderful evening. Our friends asked for your card because they are planning on coming back soon and obviously were happy with what you have to offer. Thanks for a nice evening

We had a delicious and generous Thanksgiving meal here. We appreciated all the special touches -- white tablecloths and seasonal decor -- that created a lovely holiday atmosphere.
