I was very excited to return
I was very excited to return to Niles although, upon arrival, there was no host or hostess present to seat me so I was taken to my table by a waiter. The waiter was not familiar with procedure, didn't even note that I was an Open Table client even after making mention. There were no bread plates at the table and my guest and I had to ask for them even after we were served bread, our waiter just wasn't attentive as we had to call his attention every time we needed him. We truly enjoyed our meal but the overall experience was not as good as our first visit. Hopefully, our return will be more like the first!

The perfect place to dine
The perfect place to dine if you're attending an event at the Garden. Much better than Nick & Stef's which is over priced and cramps you in shoulder to shoulder with the people at the next table.

Always excellent food! Service
Always excellent food! Service can be slow and noise is bad if you sit near the bar area. I take clients there and go with friends also. High recommendation.

Defineitly better experience
Defineitly better experience than our last visit! Our food has always been enjoyable. Service was top notch this visit and blew me away. Thank you! We'll, of course, be back!

Best in the neighborhood
For pre- or post-Madison Square Garden events this is an excellent choice. Much better than the standard pub grub joints that dominate the area. Fine dining, good wines, nice atmosphere. Locals should be flocking here, not just tourists who seem to be the majority of diners. [BTW, the pretzel crumb covered chicken in a coarse mustard sauce is excellent--substitute potatoes with the pistachio wild rice.]

I found a new hangout in an unexpected place. Niles is in the Affina Hotel near Madison Square Garden and it is excellent. I had the Irish Omelet which was delicious and flavorful in every bite. The restaurant itself is nice looking with little painting of scenes of the city on the walls - very clean & fresh. The staff was very attentive & accommodating. They have a very swanky bar area which I am going to try for an afternoon drink but looking over the rest of the menu, it will be hard to resist having dinner & dessert there after. And the muffin basket is fresh & hard to resist as well.

An arty/unique dining experience
Always great dining in a unique, arty style place with ever changing colored lighting and fun food choices beautifully plated.

A solid, reliable place. This
A solid, reliable place. This is a must visit with our business trips to NYC. They have excellent salads, fresh fish and lovely service. We had a variety of minor adjustments to dishes that were accommodated without drama. Much appreciated.

My friend and I can't seem
My friend and I can't seem to go back often enough! We keep having an enjoyable experience.

I love brunch at the Niles, a quiet gem in the middle of the 34th street hub.
Brunch and then some shopping always make for a great weekend treat.

After Work Date Night
It was convenient to go there straight after work, without having to wait to wait to be seated. The staff was polite and the food was memorable.

The best sea bass on the planet!
We flew in from Cleveland and had a fabulous dining experience here. I had dined there in 2009 and the sea bass was out of this world. I ordered it on this trip and was ecstatic that is was just as fantastic as it was 4 years ago. Simply the best! Our service was spectacular, and all of my friends, as well as myself, loved the ambience in this restaurant and as well as the bar area. The lobster bisque was delicious and full of chunks of lobster and my friend loved their wild mushroom soup. Order dessert. Any dessert. They are all icing on the cake of a fantastic meal in a wonderful atmosphere.

"Dependable" is the word I would use to describe The Niles. This was our third time there - with friends who had never been. We can depend on nice atmosphere, good service and excellent food. Prices are also reasonable. The convenience of being so close to Penn Station and NJ Transit is an absolute plus. We will be back again.

Great place on the run!
Terrific place to catch a light meal and drink before/after a concert or before running to the train. Always nice greeting, pleasant dining area, art gallery atmosphere, lively bar scene.

Wonderful for a tasty meal
Wonderful for a tasty meal and drink after or before a show at the Garden or before you hit Penn Station. Charming decor and fast, friendly service.

Superb breakfast menu in spacious setting across from Penn Station. And very attentive service.

Great book group meeting here
I was here with a group of six people from my book group. We all really enjoyed it and they gave us a round table in a corner, which worked really well. The restaurant was not quiet by any means, but the noise level was moderate enough to allow us to have a really good conversation. We all agreed that the food was delicious and we will return!
7/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
for the neighborhood...great
The Penn Station area does not have a lot to offer (in contrast to the gleaming Grand Central!) Niles is a pleasant oasis in a dingy sort of neighborhood. the food is quite good. I found the service diffident. Noise level acceptable- cuold actually talk wtih a friend. If you need a good place very near Penn station I think this is it
7/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
Always love Niles, but this time, they topped themselves by surprising my wife's friend with a great Birthday dessert. It was done extremely well and we want to thank Niles for always being a terrific place for a great meal and a great time!
7/31/2013 5:00:00 PM
Just the Right Place
I go to Niles often as it's the perfect place for dinner or just a drink before catching a bus or train from Penn Station. The food is always good, the menu changes just enough to provide new dishes while not dropping all my old favorites, and the prickly pear margarita is fabulous..
8/6/2013 5:00:00 PM
What a great gem in the shadow of Penn Station. Great food, service and atmoshpere! Lobster bisque not to be missed. The best I've ever had!

Meet friends at The Niles
We chose The Niles because it is within half a block of Penn Station. At 11:30, there were only a handful of diners and the room was quiet. The hostess/waiters were extremely attentive and friendly and sweet to us. Two of us enjoyed the eggs benedict. I had the Turkey Cobb which was fair. The turkey was dry and the dressing was a bit too vinegary, but the it was fresh and filled a large round soup bowl. A bowl of fresh homeade poppy seed muffins was complimentary. The apple/pear dessert was excellent. And, the coffee (both regular and decaf) was excellent. The pots were refilled by the waiters frequently. We spent two hours eating and talking, so it was a great place for our purpose as no one rushed us. We would come here again.

A very nice dinner/visit
Recently needed a place to grab a bite and a drink before getting on a train at Penn Station and came across this gem. A friendly staff (especially over the phone on confirming reservation details and timings) along with a clean and modern atmosphere made this a great find in what I typically think is a restaurant-baren area of NYC. Highly recommended.

I choose this restaurant because
I choose this restaurant because it was across from Penn Station. I was meeting friends for lunch and then going on to upstate NY by Amtrak. They checked my luggage for me. I told the server my friends and I had not seen each other for a long time and he did not come over to ask for our order until I call him over. The food was excellent. I will definitely use this restaurant again the next time I am in NYC.
8/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
My friend was in town for the weekend and was staying in a hotel near MSG. I chose Niles because of the location, but the food and ambiance was fantastic!
8/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
Best in the area near Penn Sta/MSG
While the front bar dominates the scene, the restaurant in the back consistently prepares excellent dishes. I really love the pretzel covered chicken and keep coming back for more. One complaint, while they sit diners at 10:30 (with a reservation for that time), by 11:30 the staff is making it clear that they want to clear up everything and leave.

Heard from friends that this
Heard from friends that this was very good. Its in a busy neighborhood, next to the Affinia Hotel on 7th Ave. Turned out to be very good food and beautiful restaurant. Not a large menu, but they do have specials. Would definitely recommend. Also, very convenient to Madison Sq. Garden and Penn Station.

Yummy Food at a Reasonable Price!
I have eaten at this restaurant several times whenever we're in NYC. It amazes me that it never seems to get crowded because it's right across from Madison Square Garden. Brunch is always nice here especially with the complimentary Mimosa or Bloody Mary. Dinner choices are varied depending on how hungry you are. We decided to to have the Irish burger (which was juicy and delicious). It came with a nice size salad which we chose instead of the french fries. Our server was very accommodating. I ordered coffee and he was nice enough to get me another little pot because it wasn't hot enough. He even warmed up the creamer! Prices here are reasonable as well.

Steadfast and Reliable
Niles Restaurant is the best for breakfast whether one is ordering from the menu or experiencing its brunch spread. On this visit, I had dinner for the first time. I ordered pizza chicken and was quite pleased!

Meeting old friends for brunch/lunc
Meeting old friends for brunch/lunch we wanted a place that would not rush us out and quiet enough to be able to sit & talk. This restaurant fit our needs perfectly, being part of a hotel and not on restaurant row it was like having our own private meeting place. The food was very good, service was excellent and the décor was very lovely. The convenience of it being across from Penn Station was a super plus, definitely recommend this.

Great for Business Breakfast
The restaurant is very nice, and has a nice breakfast in a business atmosphere. The service is very good and you do not feel rushed.

I went to lunch with a friend
I went to lunch with a friend who came in from NJ , so the location so close to Penn station was ideal. We were there for nearly three hours , enjoyed the lobster bisque and lobster salad sandwich ,both were excellent, so was the dessert .would definitely return..

Niles is my favorite spot for dinner/drinks before a game or concert at Madison Square Garden. The food and service are always superb! The eclectic menu satisfies every palate. Niles is also our first choice for an MSG celebratory luncheon. The private dining room with NY politician caricatures is the perfect place to accomodate 10 - 20 people.
10/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
Food was really good and they sung happy birthday to my girlfriend for her 21st birthday.
10/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great quiet place with good
Great quiet place with good food - perfect for business lunch, unlike most midtown restaurants of similar quality which are too noisy.

Niles was a tucked away surprise..
We really enjoyed our lovely lunch and we had great food. Service was excellent!
Would definitely come back again..
Great spot for lunch!

A very nice restaurant situated close to Madison Square Garden, but not too expensive. We ate quite early so it was quiet and may be noisier later on in the evening. Even so, the food was excellent and the service, though not strained at that time, was very good too.
10/29/2013 5:00:00 PM
perfect for MSG!
The food was great, the service was relaxed yet timely, steps from the Garden, something for everyone on the menu.

The best restaurant near MSG
Niles NYC is by far the classiest restaurant in the area around Madison Sq. Garden. In a neighborhood of casual dining, sports pubs and steakhouses, Niles is always our choice for a drink and meal before going to an event. Great menu selections, friendly service, and sleek environment always combine for a great experience here. A bonus: if attending a concert at MSG you can count on hearing the music of the artist while dining; it's a great mood setter. This time we had and can recommend the Wedge and shaved Brussels sprouts salads and main courses of Chilean Sea Bass and the Filet Mignon au poivre. All were superb. We have never been disappointed here.
11/7/2013 4:00:00 PM
We were pleasantly surprised at how good the food and service was at Niles. It was just across the street from MSG and was very convenient to have dinner and walk across the street to see our show. We will definitely come back the next time we are at the Garden
11/8/2013 4:00:00 PM
We chose this restaurant for its proximity to Madison Square Garden as we were attending a concert that night. MSG is just across 7th Avenue from the restaurant so very convenient. The food and service were excellent. My wife and I have demanding expectations in both categories and Niles met them both. We shared a shaved brussel sprout salad (don't let the name fool you it's delicious with bacon and shaved asiago) and crab cakes as an appetizer. I had the butter crumb crusted cod and she the scallops. Everything was prepared perfectly and was reasonably prices. For Manhattan that is a tough thing to find. We were boht very happy with our experience and when in the area again we will definitely make this our choice.

Best place pre-or-post MSG event
I'm a big fan of Niles. The menu always has something interesting. I really like the pretzel crusted chicken with mustard sauce. Oh, the pistachio/leek wild rice is must have side. Soups are top notch too. Located just across from Penn Station/Madison Square Garden, it' much more than just a hotel restaurant geared for visitors. Deserves to be much more crowded than it usually appears.

Dinner before Eagles Concert
Niles was recommended by a friend who actually joined us for dinner that night. We had tickets to the Eagles Concert at the Garden and wanted to have a nice, relaxing dinner before the concert. We arrived about 15 minutes early, and they seated us immediately.
The service was excellent, the menu had something for everyone, including the gluten-free person who was in our company.
The food was outrageous! Not a complaint in the group. Definitely would recommend, and most definitely will be back!

Good location...good food & service
Very good. I picked it out due to reviews and its proximity to Madison Square Garden (Knicks tickets!). Out of towner, here.
I liked the food ... had a very good mushroom/asparagus risotto ... and a couple of appetizers. Good service was attentive but not overpowering. Definitely recommend for a good, stylish, above average food experience.
Bar was busy with an attractive, fun, business happy hour crowd.

Came here for my anniversary. I fell in love with the happy vibe that spilled from every employee and guests. The menu has something for everyone including vegetarian . Food was delicious service was wonderful

Had a leisurely dinner with
Had a leisurely dinner with friends in from Dubai - wasn't rushed at all which is a nice change. Food good, price good especially if you don't drink much. Noise is bar is crazy but that is normal - we requested a table down the back of the restaurant and it was fine. Will definitely go back.

Great location for Penn Station
We were returning home from NYC and stopped at Niles for an early dinner before catching the NJ Transit train at Penn Station. It's literally right across the street from the station so it was very convenient. The food was excellent and the service was very good overall with one quirk--the waiter was putting out candles for the tables, but only on tables at which no patrons were seated yet. Seems like those would be the people who should get them first! :) Other than that, it was very good and highly recommended.
11/24/2013 4:00:00 PM
What a surprise!
Looking for a nice place to have lunch with a friend near Penn Station, never expecting to find a place as nice as Niles. Service was great, the food was delicious, and no one rushed us out the door while we lingered over coffee and conversation. You can bet I'll be back!

Wonderful escape from Midtown!
We had a wonderful early Thanksgiving brunch at this restaurant at the Affinia. The staff is always great and the food top notch...presentation, preparation and ingredients. It is perhaps one of the nicest in Manhattan and certainly if you are looking for a nice place near Penn Station and Macy's!!!

Lovely Brunch Experience
Met three friends for brunch and we were all delighted with the food, service and location. Although it was bedlam in the City during Thanksgiving weekend this spot was pretty and quiet. I would eat there again.
