29 South is great Food and Service
We went to 29 South for Sunday Brunch. The food was great, served hot and the entire table was served together. We ate earky and sat outside. The wait staff was attentive and pleasant. We had a very nice meal all around.

Our favorite on the island.
Our favorite on the island. Had a service "hic-up" this time while entertaining a customer but, they recovered well. Food is always good with some eclectic options.

Food worth the trip!
The food is fresh and local. The fried green tomatoes are a must. The service was great just a little slow but they were very busy. Definitely make a reservation as they were fully booked. Loved the house but we were seated inside. Don't go for the atmosphere, go for the food. We shared a couple appetizers and split the chef special of salmon over a fresh vegetable medley from the garden behind the house and a yellow tomato sauce. Would definitely go back.

We had several good meals while visiting Amelia Island/ Fernandina Beach. This was our favorite. Shrimp and Grits was fantastic. Group of 5 all ordered something different and everything was great. Save room for desserts particularly coffee & donut dish and chocolate cake. Great service. The chef came out and discussed the different dishes with us. Wonderful dining experience.

I picked this restaurant because of the many small plate options available. We sampled 3, the Simple Crust of Bread, the Fried Green Tomatoes and the Lobster Corn Dog. They were all amazing. We also split the foie burger which was simply divine and finished off with the donuts and coffee dessert! The service was great. Our waitress was very helpful in terms of ordering the right amount of food and very pleasant. We also kept asking her what was being brought to the surrounding tables! Great menu for foodies!

Best on the island
We visit Amelia often and know first-hand nearly all restaurants around. But we think this is the best by a lot. Consistently great.

My Favorite Restaurant!
This was out third time back to 29 South and the food continues to be outstanding! The service was also outstanding! Our waiter knew how much we loved their pork belly and since it was not on the menu he found out exactly when it's going to be back on the menu and how long it will be on there. We will definitely be back very soon!! Best restaurant in Fernandina Beach!!

The best on the island
Just went back for the second time this vacation week...and remarkably the second trip was even better than the great first visit. Red pepper soup was brilliant. Grilled romaine salad is awesome. The grouper special was..well...truly special. It's the best restaurant on Amelia Island, and that's saying much given several other fine spots.

We are new to the Amelia island area but would go back daily to this restaurant if we didn't have other places to test out! Will make this place a must go to every time we visit! We wouldn't want to miss it!

I went to this restaurant because of a recommendation from a colleague, and I am so grateful. I went with my boyfriend and we both were raving when we left. We had the lobster corn dog and caprese crustini to start, the bar-b-q salad, and the NY strip - all equally phenomenal. And then the desert came, the flourless cake with butter pecan ice cream, and it might be the best desert I have ever had. The venue is an old home in the downtown historic area but don't let the casual ambiance fool you, the food is very high end. Furthermore they bring in their products from local farms! If you are in the area I would highly recommend you take the chance to experience 29 South Eats.

Returned After Long Absence
My wife and I ate at 29 South six years ago and really enjoyed it but on on annual visits to Amelia Island since then have eaten with large groups at other restaurants in town. This year we went back since we both had such good memories of our past dinner here. It was as good as we remembered it and the weather was perfect for eating on the poarch where we could watch people strolling on the street. Licated in an old house on a street with several bars and restaurants, the neighborhood has a "good vibe" and the food and service was excellent. We both live seafood and her broiled scollops and my fish were both served beautifully.

29 South in Fernandina Beach
I always stop when I'm in the area at 29 South. I have never had a bad experience here and it's worthy of all of the awards it's won.
7/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
coffee and donuts
we eat here about twice per year, whenever we're in Fernandina. it'san organic, farm to table restaurant and is always good. i come for the coffee and donuts, but my entree of shrimp and grit was enjoyable too.

Casual atmosphere, phenomenal food
29 South is to die for restaurant occupying a moderate older frame home in Fernandina Beach, FL. The vibe is relaxed and the staff is friendly and knows the food. Delicious fish dishes -- grouper with a delicate whisper of orange sauce over polenta, and mahi-mahi over a savory and colorful succotash. Each fish was very different and each was perfectly done. Pork chop had a sinful plumped blackberry sauce. Great desserts -- "coffee and donuts" like you've never had and a chocolate confection to make you weep.
The wines are wonderful and great sommelier to help you choose.

We have eaten here many times
We have eaten here many times and have always enjoyed our dinner. A gem in Fernandia beach.

Terrific shrimp and grits!
I love 29 South- their shrimp and grits are great as are other items on the menu. Try the coffee and donuts dessert- it's worth it!

What a surprise!
This restaurant was everything everyone claimed it would be. The menu had a number of interesting options but we settled on the arugula salad and the shrimp and grits. The plates were generous and well prepared. The table next to us (more in their party) selected all the things we would have tried, mussels, the foie burger, the daily inspired crostini and of course, chocolate soufflé disaster and they rated it all excellent. The staff was friendly, the server was attentive, although he did forget to bring us the lobster corn dog which is what enticed us to try 29th South in the first place. I guess we wil just have to go back.

BUT FOR THE FRIED CHICKEN AND . . .
Simple décor forces one to look to the food for entertainment, and for the majority of the food, it does not let you down. Appetizers are fresh and tasty, salads (especially the fried salad) is excellent, shrimp and grits is the best of 100s that I have experienced in the southeast - combination of smooth and crunchy, taste, absolutely amazing. Fried chicken crust is crunchy and tasty, problem is that the flavor is unable to extend down into the tender chicken. Presentations are worthy of a 4-star restaurant. Don't be tempted to dress up for this old Victorian house restaurant, most folks dress very casual - picture Brooks Brothers with shorts.

Relaxed atmosphere, upscale cuisine
Great food! Service was a bit rough in the beginning, but the food more than made up for it!

Great find in Ferdinard Beach
Great find in Ferdinard Beach - great experience - highly recommended!

If you only eat once in Fernandia!
29 South is the only resturant in Fernandina that we drive from Jacksonville to dine at.....yhea if we are already in Fernandia for some purpose other than eating, we might relent and eat where business takes us, but 29 South is always our first choice.
8/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
What's up with the warm wine?
This restaurant has good innovative food. Servers could be a little more personable. Biggest negative is the warm red wine. There is not the slightest coolness to the red wine. Twice I have ordered red wine with the same result. Otherwise food is good and presentation is nice.

Never miss the Coffee & Doughnuts
29 South is one of those terrific, non-pretentious foodie restaurants that never disappoints. The food is local and organic as much as possible - and often veggies come from the organic garden right out back (can't get fresher than that!). Whenever we have people in to visit, I always take them here, and is always a highlight of the trip for our guests.
You cannot go wrong with anything on the menu - which does change seasonally - but my suggestions are the Southern Cobb Salad, the Tea-Brined Pork Chop with Mac &Cheese, the Fried Chicken (I have no idea how they get the coating so light, crispy, and flavorful, but they do), and the Fish Tacos.
For dessert, you should not miss the Coffee & Doughnuts - just trust me on that one!!!

Southern casual chic
Perfect spot for casual dining in keeping with southern beach and island locale. Chef is creative and Goldie's will be pleased
8/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
Recommended by a friend and did not disappoint. Fried Chicken was best ever. Coffee and Donuts dessert (not what you think) was amazing. Salmon was delicious with homemade Cavatelli and amazing Sweet Corn Purée. Would definitely go back. Too bad we're just here on vacation.

Enjoyed the food immensely! Creative, fresh and great-tasting!

Food was great server was on time and dining area was quiet. Little pricy but worth every penny.
9/8/2013 12:00:00 AM
29 South offers unique dishes & flavors - not your standard fare. It is always interesting and tasty.

29 South Eats - a pleasant fine!
On a "road trip" through Florida, we stumbled upon 29 South Eats (thank you OpenTable!) when we entered the state. We were so impressed with the quality and preparation of the food and "local food" focus of the restaurant that we altered our travel plans to include another visit to 29 South Eats on our way out of Florida. When we visit Florida again we will certainly include 29 South Eats again. Informal atmosphere that welcomes casual travelers. Knowledgeable and friendly staff. The dining room fills up quickly shortly after the restaurant opens. We are glad we made reservations! We are glad we like to eat early!
9/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
The best fish taco on the island! Sweet flavor , crunchy shell, sautéed seafood and slaw was marinated so light and tasty! Great service and atmosphere!

Our fav in Fernandina Beach
29th South never fails us... As locals to the island, we find this is our favorite and find reasons to return for special dinners.
9/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
In town visiting from Boston, and we were very happy we made this pick. I had the "crusty bread" special appetizer, that was good but very filling! I ordered the fried chicken dinner which was deliciously southern and huge - too large to finish. I easily could have skipped the starter. We also ordered the fried green tomatoes which were excellent and perfectly sized for an app. My husband got the pork chops over mac and cheese and was raving about his choice. Our server was very kind and perfectly attentive, we loved the southern hospitality. The indoor decor feels a bit "italian restaurant in NYC", so we picked a spot on the large porch and enjoyed the FL weather, instead. Definitely worth a visit!
9/18/2013 5:00:00 PM
Food was great, unique combination of meat/fish, vegetables and starch.
Appetizers tasty and large.

Wonderful Amelia - Fernandia Spot!
Incredible and very different food. Great menu and staff could not have been more interested and attentive. Very different décor and great ambience. Would highly recommend this!

Tasty food quirky waiters!
We enjoyed the catch of the day, mahi mahi and the swordfish. Cooked just right with lovely side dishes.

Hope to go back.
First time on Amelia Island and our first night dinner would be hard to beat. Had a grouper special that was outstanding following a really good take on fried green tomatoes. Be sure to save room for the doughnut and coffee ice cream desert--one of the house specialties.
9/24/2013 5:00:00 PM
Great food, lacking atmosphere.
Overall a very good experience. The food was delicious and the service was outstanding. The atmosphere, however, left a lot to be desired.

We spent a lovely evening
We spent a lovely evening dining at 29 South Eats this past weekend. We were seated outdoors on the porch which provided wonderful atmosphere. The menu offered many interesting choices for both small plate apps and entrees. You could taste the freshness of the ingredients. We look forward to returning on our next trip to Amelia Island.
9/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
Best place we have eaten years. Can't wait to go again. Best in every way. Yes, yes, yes. It was like eating "art".
9/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
You don't go to restaurants for the ambience when hungry! It is a refurbished house in the middle of downtown Fernandina Beach. I had the spare ribs and the chocolate brownie w/ butter pecan ice cream. Went again for breakfast - waffles, ice cream, and grits. Go for the food!
10/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
Loved every aspect about this
Loved every aspect about this dining experience - food was fabulous! Might have put a candle (or fake candle) on the tables to create a little more ambiance/mood lighting. A definite "revisit" and could be one of my local favs!
10/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our first trip to 29 South. The mussels were perfectly prepared, my mahi over succotash with a savory broth was mouthwatering and my husband's pork chop over macaroni with a blackberry reduction sauce was a delicious surprise. Foodies, you will enjoy this cozy gem!
10/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great Farm-Fed Food Find
29 South works with local farmers to bring fresh meat and produce to the table. My husband have eaten there several times, and always find the food to be fresh and beautifully-prepared. The inside space is small, but the outdoors is more spacious and can be very pleasant in nice weather. Definitely a restaurant to try when visiting Amelia Island.
10/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
Delicious food and great service!
Enjoyed our dining experience at 29 South. Local fresh, well prepared food and great service - Beau was the perfect waiter. Try the pork chops or fried chicken. We will definitely be back.

At first we were a bit in limbo, but a wonderful server spotted this and he took care of us royally from then on. Everything was great and it was quiet enough for my 80-year-old Mom to hear every word. The food was unique and superb: especially the macaroni and cheese with lobster and, be still my heart, the lobster corn dog. A whole lobster tail lightly battered, not at all greasy, with vodka horseradish ketchup. Divine! Then, to top everything off, the famous "coffee and donuts" dessert: mocha ice cream, "bread" pudding made with Krispy Kreme donuts and caramel sauce. The fare is not only creative and varied but largely locally sourced and thus unbeatably fresh. Highly recommended!
