Been coming since opening
Been coming since opening and Manager Joel has turned this from a high priced tourist stop to a place where both tourists and locals come to enjoy. The hospitality he presents and the food is superb at a moderate price. Hats off to my old acquaintance, Shabu, for bringing this Monterey treasure to Kona.

All perfect except service.
All perfect except service. We had 12 for dinner. Waiter was in attentive to put it mildly. Four arrived early. Rest of us had to go to bar to get drinks. Rest was great. Hard to make a table of twelve happy. They did it -except for the waiter

Kamaina Pleasing overall experience
Being a Kailua-Kona Resident for few years and not having been to "The Fish Hopper" for a while. Things in some local facilities recently visited had diminished in quality and service so decided to move on. My great experience started with going online to "Open Table". what a professional company to be available. Not only did it offer the optimum in convenience but being able to voice my options for this reservation and they all were met to a tee. Follow up was excellent and a reminder one day ahead was greatly appreciated. All that said, I have now finished a reservation with "Open Table" for next Sunday.
I know if "The Fish Hopper" is as pleasing as today, we will have a long, satisfying relationship

Fabulous Experience Again.
After making dining reservations with Open Table for two weeks for a total of 7 first week and now today for 11, I am once again delighted with the professional manner I was treated.
The Fish Hopper came through again with flying colors, both with service and excellent food. The staff was again doing their jobs with excellence. I am so impressed today being Mothers Day. I saw No confusion on anyone's part.
Please pass this on to all staff members of the Fish Hopper - Kailua Kona, Hawaii.

THIS IS THE PLACE
Where else on Ali'i Drive in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii can you find a better place to just hang out with friends and enjoy such wonderful service, excellent food prepared to a tee, not to mention the view of activity on Kailua Bay. Our group known as "The Magnificent Eight" will be returning again and again.

Food was good with decent
Food was good with decent size portions. Price was in line with all the other restaurants oceanside along Kona bay.
5/20/2013 4:00:00 PM
Fish Hoppers was one of the places recommended by several people and some reviews when we were planning our trip to Kona. It is an older restaurant, but in a great location for sitting and enjoying the sunset, a cocktail and watching the surf or long boaters practicing. Food was good and the service was as well. Very friendly and a laid back atmosphere - just what you would expect in an island world. Not really a high end place but definitely worth a stop for lunch or a quick dinner. Prices are high, but that applies everywhere here.

Service and food were wonderful.
Service and food were wonderful. Servers were very attentive. Food deliciously prepared and presented. Will definitely return
5/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
This has become my favorite hang out for our group. "The Magnificent Eight". We Stumbled Around and Finally Found the place to be for Brunch on Sundays in Kona overlooking Kailua Bay. It just doesn't get any better than this!
Dale -- Kathleen and your wonderful staff, you are Ono in my book !

To all Vacationers and Kamaina alike,
If you haven't tried out THE FISH HOPPER yet, you are really missing the boat. Their Menu is second to none here on the Big Island. Food preparation and presentation is excellent and Oh so Yummy. The great staff has always been attentive and always there to please. The View of Kona Bay is second to none from any table. Where else can you witness crashing waves and the spectacle of a disabled fishing boat being towed to safety keeping it off the rocks by a stand up paddler. It just doesn't get any better than this.

Fish Hopper for fish lovers!
Best restaurant for unique and delicious fresh fish. They also have excellent steaks and vegetarian options. I highly recommend this restaurant if you are into fine dining. It is pricey but well worth it!

FIT FOR A KING
Sunday being Fathers Day it was fitting for our group "The Magnificent Eight" to go to our favorite restaurant here in Kailua-Kona to celebrate. As I have stated before, no matter whether you are Kamaina or visitor/vacationer , you will not be disappointed with the service, food or ambience. Being the eldest father of our group I was overwhelmed by the Royal Treatment I received from Kathleen and Staff. I have not mentioned the cook in previous posts having never met him, but Kudos for a great meal every time.
By booking with Open Table we always can be assured of a timely, accurate follow through with our request.
Mahalo for your services.
6/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
The Fish Hopper was an amazing experience the food and service were great! I enjoyed the exotic cocktails and the fresh fish. The clam chowder is soo good I came back the next day to have more during the lunch hour.

What A Celebration We All Had
After having been treated so well in the last 8 Sundays in a row for Brunch. Our Group "The Magnificent Eight" were unanimous in retuning to celebrate my 80th birthday amongst what has become not only the Greatest Staff on our Big Island of Hawaii, but those we now are privileged to call friends and family. I have been remiss in my past reviews by not mentioning and giving kudu's to Chef James for his excellent and consistent preparation of our meal. Manager Dale and Supervisor Kathleen you always are there to make our "Visit a memorable Experience" We all want to thank you all again for your friendship and caring service.
6/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
Went to Fish Hopper on a recommendation from a relative. Both dishes we ordered were phenomenal and the presentation was top notch.
6/23/2013 4:00:00 PM
With great food. The fish is great, the key lime pie and the chocolate macadamia nut dessert are not to be missed. Glad we went there.

Running Out Of Superlatives
Tourist, Visitor and Kamaina take note: For the finest and most consistent food, service and a staff that is un-equaled anywhere, you can not beat "The Hopper" I have been reviewing this restaurant for may weeks now and have never been disappointed. Come on by and enjoy the ever-changing tempo of Ali'i Drive and the beautiful Kailua-Kona Bay.
6/30/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great meal in north Kona
We loved this restaurant. Seared ahi salad with fresh mango, papaya and avocado was fantastic. My husband had the plate lunch, Also very good.
7/1/2013 12:00:00 AM
Returned for lunch a 2nd Time
Fresh fresh fresh seafood and super nice folks. Ahi trio, salads and grilled fish. A must when in Kona. Great Zagat rating too!

ELEVEN WEEKS OF OUTSTANDING SERVICE
Being the 11th week in a row of fantastic service, food and all around enjoyable times of camaraderie, I find it becoming more and more difficult to find the words that can portray my gratitude for the treatment and superlative joy thatk abounds at Table #1.
Therefore I plan on bringing our group for a good many times of cheer and enjoyment.
7/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
TWELVE WEEKS IN A ROW
By now readers of my reviews on this fine establishment must know how excellent they truly are. If you haven't tried them please do! It will satisfy your deepest desire in service hospitality and vittles worth remembering for a long, long time. The parent Fish Hopper in Monterey should be proud of their sister establishment here on the "Big Island of Hawaii.
7/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
THIRTEEN WEEKS IN A ROW
I am not only running out of superlatives, I'm just running out of words in the English language to relate to the great time we have every Sunday at the Fish Hopper, Kona.
GREAT FOOD ~ EXCEPTIONAL SERVICE ~ WONDERFUL VIEW ~ and a STAFF THAT KNOWS AND ANTICIPATES EVERY NEED. WE ARE ADDICTED TO ALL OF THE ABOVE AND SHALL KEEP RETURNING WEEK AFTER WEEK. The ease of making reservations thru Open Table is an outstanding part of this weekly get together of the "Magnificent Eight ~ Pacific Golden Plovers"
7/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
Never a disappointment
The Fish Hopper has the best scenic location in Kona Town, overlooking Kailua Bay and all the activities on the pier. Because we live close, over the years I've had at least once every item on the menu. Every meal is exquisite.
Every restaurant in Kona offers fresh local fish, but at the Fish Hopper you can occasionally get fresh frozen Halibut brought directly from Alaska. That is my special treat!
The only drawback, and this is true for all the restaurants on Alii Drive, is the really loud Harley drive-by's, several of which will occur during any dining session, and sometimes many. That may actually not be a problem for many people, but it does cause me some pause.
8/1/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great as Always!
The Fish Hopper is one of my top restaurants in Kailua-Kona! Ambience is wonderful, the service is superior and the food is very good! The claim chowder is some of the best I've ever had. I also highly recommend any of their seafood dishes.
Although I've never purchased "adult beverages" at the Fish Hopper, I understand they make excellent Mai Tais and have a vibrant wine list!
Definitely try the Fish Hopper when you visit Kailua-Kona! You won't regret it!

Like Coming Home
After missing a week in our record breaking run of Sunday Brunches at the Hopper, it was like coming home to friends and family.
The same great staff , cuisine and ambience of décor. Our group, "The Magnificent Eight will be on a small hiatus being spread across Spokane, Grand Coulee, Washington and Portland Oregon. Only two left behind to hold down our territory on the Big Island. But we shall prevail and come back to the Hopper on September 1st. Your service will be missed. Until then, Aloha
8/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great view! Service was a little slow to get started but very friendly. Get the Clam chowder!! New England style very thick creamy and flavorful. Calamari was a little chewy. Ahi tuna entree fantastic.
8/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
Good food and service
Everything I have tried was good. Very friendly waiter.
9/2/2013 12:00:00 AM

Enjoyed a great meal with my wife on our anniversary trip. Great sunset view, food and service. Highly recommended.
9/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
Always a Delight
What can I say that I haven't said in weeks past? This is the place for enjoyable, consistent quality food and great dining in Kona.e shall return again and again.
9/8/2013 12:00:00 AM
Missing in action too long
It seem as if I have been reviewing the "Fish Hopper" for such a long time that words are becoming repetitive to the point of losing some of their meaning. Even though I have been MIA at times over the summer, I have not lost my love of this Kona Icon, The service, food and all around dining experience can not be equaled here on our Big Island of Hawaii. I look forward to again hooking up with friends and family on September 22nd for a delightful dining experience.
9/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
A disguised Delight
The exterior looks a little touristy, but the food, the presentation, and the attentive service brings us back. We eat here at least once each visit and have never been disappointed. Every bit as daring and delightful as the high priced hotels...for less money, more fun, and a great evening. Go, but save a place for me overlooking the harbor!
9/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
THE restaurant to go to in Kona
Rarely do you find a restaurant that excels in
Extensive menu and wine list. All who work
There are friendly and pay attention to
Don't miss the macadamia crusted
Mahi Mahi and the lilikoi (passion fruit)
Cheese cake. View of the Kailua Pier and
Ocean are really nice.
We make sure to dine there multiple times
Each year we visit the Big Island. Five stars
All the way!
9/20/2013 5:00:00 PM
Wife and I have been to Kona several times. We saw the reviews on The Fish Hopper and wanted to try it. I would suggest going during happy hour in their bar. Enjoy an appitizer and a cold beverage and reduced rates then get seated for dinner. If you work it right with your server you can get a open window seat overlooking Kona bay and people watch during dinner. The trade winds at dinner make for a wonderful experience. To top it all off the food and attentive service were excellent :)
9/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great location, close to my hotel. Great scenic view.
Foods was very tasty. The Dungeness crab in the Grip of Seafood was excellent although a bit messy. Good desserts.
9/24/2013 5:00:00 PM
Our friends were right
Friends told us this was a good restaurant for good tasting good at reasonable price and they were so right. It was excellent. My husband loves MahiMahi and his dish was fantastic.

The Most Accommodating Reservation
The Management and staff of The Hopper never fail to surprise our Group. They seem to bend over backwards to please every request with such enthusiasm and delight it is always a pleasure to "Brunch" with friends and family.
Great Sunday morning Vittles, wonderful service (always with a smile) and the killer view of our beloved Kailua Bay.
Keep up the wonderful food and service and we will continue to return again and again.
10/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great Fish Good Price
We had a great dinner sitting at large open window looking out to the ocean. Good service and considering being in Hawaii the prices were good. We will be eating here again during our week in Kona.
10/17/2013 5:00:00 PM
Reviewing our last three visits
I have been lax in my reviews so I'll just bundle all three into one. We just celebrated our 21st visit to the Fish Hopper and we had accumulated enough Open Table Bonus points to celebrate with the cashing in the $20.00 bonus reward and starting earning another. We have always been treated like special guest with the very best of service and wonderful food. We shall continue to return to this Gem on Ali'i Drive here in Kailua-Kona.
The Magnificent Eight

The view at sunset is spectacular, food is amazing, staff is very friendly and efficient.
11/4/2013 4:00:00 PM
Good Kona restaurant
Quality water view restaurant in central Kailua Kona. Fresh fish nicely sauced, grilled or fried and plenty of non fish alternatives. Reasonably priced for this neck of the woods (wine list especially so). Friendly attentive service. Will return.
11/7/2013 4:00:00 PM
We had one of our best fish
We had one of our best fish dinners on the islands at this little gem! The service was excellent and the manager on duty provided us with exceptional attention. Loved sitting near the open window overlooking the harbor. Had dinner here twice, even though we had to drive nearly 30 miles one way from Waikoloa Beach resort. Definitely a keeper and we will return on our next visit to the big island.

Review for November 10 and 17 2013
What more can I say that has not been said about the wonderful experience meeting and dining with our small group of Five or Seven on a weekly basis for the last several months. We are greeted with a friendly smile even though I have to come in the handicap entrance in the "Reserved for Patrons" entrance off the parking lot, to being ushered to Our Reserved Table with a magnificent view of Kailua Bay, The Famous Giant Banyan Tree and the activity along Ali'i Drive. Getting to the wonderful selection of food offered, we have never been disappointed in the efforts to please our palettes'
The Magnificent Eight shall continue this ritual for a long, long time to come.
11/16/2013 4:00:00 PM
Definitely will be back. Food was great and service was great. The best part was when they brought out real desserts as the menu.
11/19/2013 4:00:00 PM
A neighborhood gem
While living in Kona, the Fish Hopper has been one of our favorite local restaurants. Service, food and atmoshere has always have been great. Staff and managerment treat you like family. We always prefered sitting in the back booths with fan. The great views of Kailua Bay are framed in the front windows without the street noise. If you are a tourist, you may want to sit at the window tables. A rel neigborhood gem.
11/19/2013 4:00:00 PM
Best of Kona
We've been to Kona several times eating at all the upscale restaurants. All were very good but pricey.
Fish Hoppers overall experience was the best by far! Food is fabulous and the staff is so friendly while moderately priced
11/21/2013 4:00:00 PM
Dependable Fish Hopper
We have enjoyed our experiences at the Fish Hopper in Kailua Kona each of the three times we have been on the Big Island. Having their amazing Coconut Shrimp for lunch is practically an initiation rite for us, now. I think we've decided that the best time to go is early. Show up at 11:30 or so for an early lunch. Everyone is fresh and time taken to prepare the food well is reliable.
11/22/2013 4:00:00 PM
Great food, great view!
Recommended by a waiter at our hotel, this restaurant was great, location is very nice with a view of the Kona bay and the service was very good as well, attentive, helpful. The food was great, obviously the fish is their specialty but every dish from starter to main was absolute delicious. We had a fantastic Poke with amazing tuna, the main was Ono and cooked to perfection, so many delicious flavors! The desserts are on a tray and were both a good selection and delicious
Overall, one of the best restaurants we experienced in the big island!
11/23/2013 4:00:00 PM
Outstanding Seafood and Service
We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner and would highly recommend for excellent quality food, and extremely good service. With an Open Table reservation, we were seated facing the beach. The fish was perfectly prepared. We had a variety along with some fun specialty drinks. Our waitress Haile was fully knowledgeable about the menu and coordinated with the chef due to a food allergy of my spouse. I can't rave enough about the Fish Hopper.
11/27/2013 4:00:00 PM
Good food and great view
I read a lot of reviews about Fish Hopper that complained about cold food and poor service - my wife and I did not experience either. Service was very attentive, and the food, particularly the fish (I had the trio and my wife had the catch of the day) were both warm and excellent. And the view is hard to beat.
