Especially if you are into Wine
The wine selection is fantastic. You can even just stop into the wine bar and have a glass if you want. The people are friendly and a great Santa Cruz find.

Windy Oaks Winemaker dinner
We attended the Windy Oaks winemaker event and it was fabulous. We LOVED Santos' menu- it was as tasty as it read. The Windy Oaks pinot noirs paired with each course were diverse and interesting. It was nice to meet and chat with Jim of Windy Oaks.

Excellent selection of wines
Excellent selection of wines by the glass or half glass. The selection leaned heavily toward Europe, which is a refreshing change, although it might have been nice to have a few more local choices. I had duck breast for dinner and my husband had the roasted rabbit. Both were quite good. The only quibble came with dessert, where I was told the sorbet of the day was cara cara orange when it was actually grapefruit, which I don't like. However, I was offered a different dessert when I found out.

Lovely find in downtown Santa
Lovely find in downtown Santa Cruz. Very happy that we tried it because the food was of the highest quality and beautifully prepared. Service was gracious. Will certainly return.

We go here for the unique
We go here for the unique wines, which they specialize in, with tasty small plates and full entrees. We got spot on recommendations for the appropriate wines for our dinner. Everything we ordered was very good. Stayed for 2 1/2 hours just enjoying the food, wine and good company.

The food was fresh, YUMMY,
The food was fresh, YUMMY, innovative, and beautifully prepared without being pretentious. The wine pairings were outstanding. Our waiter, Scott, was extremely attentive without being cloying (and a very interesting guy). Can't wait to go again!

Fantastic all around. As always
Fantastic all around. As always the small plates were amazing - the piquillo peppers and melted manchego cheese are wonderfully rich and perfect with the homemade bread and top notch olive oil. The tarte tartin dessert with a little scoop of vanilla ice cream was great. Wait staff always have great wine suggestions - but go for the pairings suggested on the menu. You won't be let down!

A wine bar with a top quality
A wine bar with a top quality chef. Food is consistently excellent, from first to last course and from one visit to the next. Has become our favorite local destination for a delightful culinary experience. Truly skirting perfection with selection of offerings, preparation, creativity and presentation.

One of our favs....
We have eaten at Soif many times; it is one of the best places in Santa Cruz, in our opinion. We feel as though we are in SF or some other big city setting when we eat there. We have never been disappointed and the vast wine list and the wait people's knowledge makes for a perfect evening every time. Soif always has something new on the menu and always something unique that you won't find elsewhere. So glad they are there!!!

Soif is a small local restaurant that offers a wonderful wine selection/wine shop, and very delicious food. I always find some very delicious meals and dishes at soif, and the paired wines allow me to try a larger selection of wines than I would find on my own. Highly recommended.

Soif presented the best list
Soif presented the best list of wines by the glass I can recall. We enjoyed four French wines (including a Sauterne dessert wine). The list of beers was about as good. The food was first rate. We hail from Los Angeles. If this meal could be replicated here (perhaps a handful of places could match the wines by the glass), the tab would easily be about $150 higher.
We try to frequent Soif whenever we are in town.

Nice wines, knowledgable friendly staff. Wish it weren't so noisy.

Impresive wine list by the glass
Food was outstanding. The only "but" is that when we first arrieved we were trying to get seated on a small table when we were 3 in the party. The busser was resilent on either moving us to a bigger table or put 2 tables toghether. At the end we were accodated. Food flavors were beautiful combined. The server, she was precise, never obtrusive.
Loved the rabbit, the soup, pork belly, and the beet salad. My new favorite spot in Santa Cruz.

Amazing wine, amazing service and incredible foods + dessert. Soif is a total gem and entirely worth the reservation - check 'em out!

Really enjoyed the food/wine
Really enjoyed the food/wine at Soif. The variety of appetizers and entrees gave us a very appealing list of options for our dinner. All were delicious and very well prepared. Enjoyed the experience!

Santa Cruz Gem
A definite "go to" food and wine experience for Santa Cruz. Inventive and serious food. Great service. Casual, unselfconscious vibe appropriate to the locale.

Great Food, Great Wine, Great Staff
Soif is one of my favorite restaurants ever. What makes it even better is a friendly, delightful staff. Many are long-term employees, happy in their jobs and even when it's very busy and they are rushed, they take the time to smile and check in non-intrusively--they are gems! The chef is a wizard, the small plates are truly delightful, the "takes" on more familiar dishes always manage to balance innovation with tradition. This guy can really do a duck! The salads taste so good I want to cry over them, the soups are so yummy the child in me wants to lick the bowl! The wine list is well researched & the staff are knowledgeable about the wines (& opinionated in a good way). They learn the palates of their regulars & know what to recommend.

We returned 3 times
The Chef has a most imaginative and tasty touch in many of the foods. Seasonal menu with no repeat dishes so citing one is not helpful but everything we tried was excellent. Appetizers, salads, main courses all had his touch. This is on a level of the better San Francisco Restaurants.
7/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
Service a little slow, once seated we got our food fairly quickly, the food was very tasty and we enjoyed our experience there.Btw, there was a klezmer like band there when we arrived, luckily they were done when we were seated as we would not have been able to converse if they had carried on playing.good wine recommendation and a good time had by all. He agreed , we ordered some appetizers which came fairly quickly , from then on it was smooth sailing. So a little slow at the beginning but

Great food and wine
They have a large number of wines by the glass, and the list changes frequently--we had
different choices two nights apart. The food is very wine friendly, and they accommodated
our grandchildren, who eat only totally plain food.
8/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
What they had was very good
The menu was a little limited but what we had was very good. One of the better restaurants we have been to in awhile. I like that they recomend a wine with the meal that you are ordering. Would like to see a few more menu selections. We will be back!

This restaurant was a pleasant
This restaurant was a pleasant surprise find in Santa Cruz. The wine list and recommended wine by the glass for each dish was great and the food was very good. I liked the ambience and décor as well. If we ever make our way back to Santa Cruz we will very definitely return!

Excellent wine bar, good food
The menu is limited, but the food offered is very good. I found the descriptions of dishes a bit obscure, and the server expounded on them without improving my understanding too much. When they came they were a surprise, albeit a good one.
I would have been happier if they featured more local, non-imported wines. Everything seemed to be from Italy or France - good, but quite a Carbon footprint just getting them here.

One of the Best in Santa Cruz
Really good food at a fair price. Ambiance is casual, understated, but OK. We were there on a Monday evening and were surprised by the very enjoyable live music. There is an adjoining wine shop, so the wine selection is above average with modest markups. There is something for everyone on the menu, and each course was well prepared. It was our first visit, but we will return next time we are in the area.

Delicious as always
Soif constantly surprises and delights us with their always delicious, fresh and local fayre. Not only do the menu combinations sound good they are extremely flavorful and usually interesting combinations ( this time squid with pork belly)..... Quite simply our favorite and much cheaper for very fine food than some of the much pricier restaurants around. Love that the menu changes daily :)
9/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
Good food, service on limited time
I stopped by to grab a light dinner trying to catch a movie. The Bartender was knowledgeable and recommended exactly what I was looking for. The Cauliflower soup was to die for and the Pork Belly extremely delish. I will return when in town.
9/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
A delightful culinary oasis with a great wine selection.
9/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
We have had dinner at Soif many times over the years and it's one of our favorite places to dine. We love a place where you have the opportunity to learn about wines, (the staff is EXCELLENT!) especially wines that are not from California. And the food is always so very good. We'll be back again and again.... <3
9/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
way too loud/ great food
The place has a reputation for being loud. When it is packed, as it was on the first night of restaurant week, it is deafening. My husband and I finally gave up yelling at each other across the table. The food was excellent, inventive and the wine list is wonderful. I wish something would be done about the noise level....
10/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
Even packed on restaurant week!
The food was of superior quality and the wait staff skilled and professional! Risotto with wild mushrooms and crispy pork belly to die for and the wine possibilities and knowledgeable staff to recommend perfect pairings make this place one of my favorites.

Fit to be Savored
We had to take an early reservation, all that was available on a restaurant week Friday. It was still not too crowded at that hour, so noise was not a problem at all. Interesting atmosphere, great tasting food and wine, excellent service. Only caveat would be the extremely small portions. Not a place to go when you're starving! We are not huge eaters but even with the 3-course prix fixe which included dessert, it was barely enough to satisfy our hunger. Still, for the quality of the food, it was worth experiencing.
10/4/2013 12:00:00 AM
There were 3 of us for dinner, we each ordered a different entrée ,appetizer and desert , all were exquisite . Definitely a place fit for foodies
10/4/2013 12:00:00 AM
Soif is super yummy but a bit on the spendy side, so it was perfect for SC Restaurant Week. I hadn't been in a while and I had forgotten how completely GREAT the food is. Taste, texture, temperature.
The culinary perfection at Soif makes me angry at bad food. :)

A Special Place
I’ve enjoyed every occasion I’ve had of dining at Soif. The food is prepared with the utmost care and imagination, and the wine pairings are superb. It can get a little noisy on a busy night but is fine on quieter evenings. A great place to relax and enjoy nice wine and wonderful food.

Food was great, although portions
Food was great, although portions were small. We really enjoy the wine recommended by our server.
10/6/2013 5:00:00 PM
Soif was very busy since it was restaurant week, but our server was on top of it. The food was delicious and she also recommended a wine to go with it. Overall, it was a very pleasant experience.

Wine and Food
How can you go wrong, We have been here a couple of times now and have not been disappointed. Tapas Tuesday is a great chance to try a good assortment of great dishes and the wine flights are pretty decent. The staff is great and knowledgeable if you are adventurous let them pair your meal with the wines and enjoy.

Amazing food and wine pairings!
Amazing food and wine pairings! Ate their twice in two days... both times were excellent Highly recommend this restaurant!

Wonderful food and service
Our server recommended the brussel sprout and smoked chevrie small plate and halibut appetizer and she was so right. They were delicious. She chose wine to pair with our selections and the pairings were perfect. She was attentive and helpful. What a pleasant experience!

Away too long
I frequented Soif regularly 4 years ago. I stopped eating there because my friends didn't think it was good value for the portions. We often left hungry after spending $100.00. It had been so long I went on a whim and was pleasantly surprised at the portions and continued excellent quality. I'll be back in again and frequently.
10/25/2013 5:00:00 PM
I love Soif
I like that the portions are small, but the quail didn't make it for me. Sorry. Otherwise, great. Not sure my enthusiasm to return, but thanks, I am glad you are there. Jenny

Tasty food, great wine choices
Soif always delivers. Food, as ever, was extremely tasty. A bit pricey for the portion size, but at the same time, given the quality I never complain. Wine list always has something interesting to try, and the servers know what they're talking about if you have questions about the wines/wine-food pairings.
