Always a favorite when I lived
Always a favorite when I lived in LA, I made Ca'Brea the dinner spot on this recent trip down from Seattle with my boyfriend. Celebrated his birthday and a friend's moving away and we all agreed it was an excellent choice. Food was excellent too, BTW!

Easy and Elegant
Excellent food without pretention, impeccably served by a friendly staff. The pastas (such as the pumpkin tortellini and lintuine with clams) are popular. But the signature 'whole boned chicken' with its herbed mustard sauce, is a must try. There is nothing like it anywhere in the city and, after trying it, it's hard to order anything else. The affordable prices permit dining there often; the delicious food and easy elegant ambience encourages dining with guests. The restaurant has been a local favorite for years and with good reason - it's a keeper!

Our group of 7 all ordered
Our group of 7 all ordered seafood entrees--ranging from a shellfish risotto to salmon with black wild rice-- and found them excellent. Appetizers were good, too. We were seated in a downstairs dining room in the back, giving us privacy.
One of my relatives had a birthday this evening. I notified the waiter and he brought her a delicious pudding and a plate of cookies. She was very pleased.

Lovely quiet brunch outdoors
I can't understand why such a nice restaurant was practically empty for brunch on Father's Day! The interior is very dark, but elegant. The small patio area is nice. Our hostess/server apologized profusely for a food stain on the first table we selected, so we sat elsewhere. She immediately changed the cloth on the first table. Only problem - we had to ask for the brunch menu. We were not in the mood for the long list of entrees and pastas (although they sounded delicious) on the regular lunch menu. We enjoyed an excellent vegetable frittata, Italian style eggs benedict, and fresh grilled vegetables (not marinated, except for the onions, yum!, and not drenched in oil). Fountain's soft sounds were lovely. Definitely will return.

Excellent food and service
Some classmates and I got together for a little reunion. We sat on the patio and had the whole thing to ourselves. Despite being the only party out there, the wait staff was attentive and very hospitable. We brought a couple of cakes for dessert and I brought take home boxes for left overs. The restaurant cut all of leftover cake and put them into their own boxes, which were better vessels for the cake. The food was excellent and it was a great evening overall. Their patio is fantastic for a group.

The food was always good but seems to have gotten even better - the sole in parchment was marvelous as was the bigoletti with seafood. Hard to stop eating that pasta dish.

Pleasant and Quiet Lunch
Convenient to Hancock Park where a friend was visiting. Decor hasn't changed in years, and is a little too rustic for my taste. However, the food was delicious. The salads were fresh and the sole baked in parchment paper with vegetables was as good as I have had. A reliable, established local haunt.
