This place was fabulous. Food and staff were both great and the atmosphere was perfect. Highly recommend this restaurant to anyone seeking a little romantic dinner.

I'm addicted to the food.
We had family in town and took them to Coal Fired Bistro. They are from Illinois and this was their first time there. The food was amazing as usual. Our server Dillon did an excellent job explaining the menu items. My family was intrigued with the innomatic wine system.
Unlike some fine dining restaurants we didn't feel as if we had to hurry up & eat. We stayed several hours & had a great time visiting & trying great food. Coal Fired is great.
This is a great place with great food & service. Who needs the hassles of downtown when you can relax on Pelham Red.

Not the Same...BETTER
I see reviews on here stating its not "as good as it used to be". Personally my wife & I find the food better & more refined.
My wife's sister was in town & has not been to Coal Fired Bistro since Chef Anthony Gray came on board. So I was really anxious to hear what she thought. She noticed the menu changes right away & said it was classier and loved the new farm to table approach.
She had the Prosciutto Wrapped Chicken Breast and said it was the best chicken she has ever tasted. My wife agreed. I had the 18oz bone-in strip & it was perfect. Best steak in the Greenville area. The cheeseboard, gnocci & potato gratinato went great with our entrees. Lastly, both the ladies agreed that Coal Fired has the best chocolate martinis in tow

Best Restaurant in Greenville
One of the best dining experiences my husband and I have had in a long time. The food was outstanding as was our waiter.

We had asked for a quiet table and were seated in the patio area, the only people out there. The manager visited twice and our server took excellent care of us. Great food and drink and exemplary service.

Once again my wife and I enjoyed our anniversary diner with our friends and Cold Fire. And over the years the food keeps getting better and better. My wife and I made sure that no plate went back with any food on them as everything was excellent. I strongly suggest starting the evening with either the cheeseor meat plate. Both are very well done and just seem to kick the night off perfectly.

Oustanding Experience at Coal Fire
Kudos to Coal Fire for offering delicious, well prepared Italian food with the amazing ingredients & recipes!! I was really impressed this most recent visit. I had a REAL Ceasar salad with the most wonderful crunchy baby romaine. I also had the shortrib ravioli--delicate with deliciously spiced tender beef filling. My husband had a beef roulade special that was stuffed with cheeses, spices served over lima beans in a light, tasty sauce. Their wine list is extensive and I longed to try so many items on the menu since they all sounded great! Seriously, we need to patron this restaurant -- it is a real relief from the tired, copycat menus that are cropping up downtown. THIS IS our BEST Italian in Greenville.

Was in town on business and a friend recommend I try this place. It not on the beaten path really (in a strip plaza south of I 85)
The people were very friendly, and attentive. The wine list was good, and the number of choices by the glass while not vast still held some good wines.
I had the veal picatta and it was excellent.

There was a major issue in the kitchen that resulted in a major delay of our entree, but the management and wait staff went above and beyond to make up for the issue. I will return soon.

We decided to return to coal
We decided to return to coal fire bistro again to see if there were any improvements after Chef Carlos had left, all in all I really can't complain, we did find the portions a bit smaller... Like others have mentioned in their replies... It lacks that special finishing touch that Carlos always added to make every meal unique. I must say the online menu is misleading as it changes every few weeks so that you are not disappointed in your selection you will want to call the restaurant to have them send you a copy of their current menu, as they no longer make some of our favorite foods.
Service was excellent!

We looked up greenville sites just passing through the area and happened upon Coal Fired Bistro. The calamari appetizer was outstanding, and the pasta dishes lovely. I had the one with crabmeat and my husband the one with shrimp. A surprisingly good choice for both of us,and we will be back when driving through Greenville the next time!

Overall great experience!!
My husband and I went there for our anniversary. We could not have asked for a better meal or service. We will definatley be back!

Why we loved the dining experience
This was our first visit and it was an early dinner after shopping in Greenville area. The service was outstanding and the ambience equally good. We ordered off the day's special menu as well as the regular menu and were extremely pleased. The fish dish (monkfish) was at least equal to if not better than the best fish dish we had had while living in Charleston for many years. We will definitely return.

Third visit. Nice atmosphere, great decor, and attentive service. Monday was 1/2 price wine night - great value. Two different pastas got good reviews from our party. Interesting menu - something for every taste. Moderately pricey, but worth it.

We have eaten several times at Coal Fire and have always had a sensational meal. Wether you go with the pasta dishes or the steak as I did last night you will not be disappointed. One of my favorite Greenville restaurants.

Heading in a new direction.
My husband and I have enjoyed dining at Coal Fire Bistro for at least five years now. the menu has always been extensive, several pages and everything delicious. The dining room used to be rather darkly lit, white table cloths and roses on each table. Very romantic. However that being said: The dining room is now very bright with light, and I understand will very soon undergo some painting to lighten things up. The roses have been replaced with voltive candles and the overall ambiance has changed.
The menu has been pared down to one page with attention to fresh ingredients. Our food was delicious and served very attractively.
We miss the ambiance of the former look of Coal Fire, but will continue to go there for the food.

We had a Beautiful meal and the service was excellent. They have improved with their new Chef, but I do miss Carlos. If you have a favorite dish that you are looking forward then I suggest that you call or email them requesting an updated menu as it changes often.

One of the best restaurants in the Greenville area. Have been going there for years and it never disappoints.

Food is always good!
They do a great job with the food at Coal fire time after time! You can count on them to satisfy!

No need for music!
We very much enjoyed our first dinner at Coal Fired Bistro. It was Saturday night and there was music. The very young hostess wanted to seat us right in front of the band and we said no, it would be too loud. She said it wouldn't be, but seated us elsewhere. The music was pretty loud and we noticed people were avoiding the area near the band. The food is amazing and we just didn't think the music was necessary or added anything to the dinner! We look forward to going again soon.

Not necessarily great food for a "foodie" but certainly good. On the expensive side especially for Greenville

Don't miss this dining experience.
Great restaurant! The cuisine is superb... Filet mignon was delicious and perfectly cooked, pork porterhouse was tender and we will definitely enjoy both again. Great wine list and specialty drinks (Sgroppino) were excellent. Ambiance is upscale but comfortable and inviting. Staff was welcoming, knowledgeable and attentive. This was our fourth visit and we plan to take visitors there soon!

Best Italian Restaurant in Gvlle!
Have eaten here many times but tonight was really exceptional! Had the creamy polenta, mushrooms, leeks, & cherry tomatoes appetizer which was outstanding and a good size portion. Also had the grouper special--it was delectable, I think it was potato crusted in a parmasean broth with artichoke, pearl onions & fingerling potatoes--simply perfect! They are discussing putting it on the regular menu. My husband had the ricotta cheese ravioli & duck confit w/ beans, shiitake mushrooms, & spinach--that was also amazing! Our servier, Jonathan, has waited on us before and always gives us outstanding service. Thank you Coal Fire for a delicious meal & service, we will return soon. Eastsiders need to come out & support this neighborhood gem!

Took my little lady on a date. Food was good, wish server had better knowledge of wine list. Good atmosphere.

Gerard Cribin in the new chef, and he is doing GREAT things in the kitchen. New menu and new suppliers. He is now buying prime beef for example. Things will continue to get much better!

Chef Gerard move to Coal FIred
We are fans of this local Italian. They lost some of their following during the recession, but the food remained good. Now they are changing up the menu and Gerard has become the head chef. For those who do not know of Gerard, he previously was the chef at the downtown Greer restaurant of the same name. It was a great restaurant in the wrong place, but probably one of the best Italian places in the up-state. As expected, the food is solid Italian and American cuisine. Our group had the Polenta appetizer, which is fantastic, some good veal dishes and the halibut was great. THe pastas are excellent.
10/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
The staff was not only sufficient, but were attentive & friendly. The menu had a nice variety & the food was excellent.
10/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
Becoming a Greenville gem!
With the addition of Chef Gerard Cribin, they are becoming one of Greenville's top restaurants! Great new menu, and fabulous entrees! Will become a regular for us.

Great food and ambiance along with great food and wine selections.

Best Italian in Greenville
Now that Chef Gerard has had his impact on the full menu, Coal Fired is probably the best overall choice for Italian in the Upstate. The pastas are great (try the carbonara for a nice treat); the veal is wonderful and his lobster franchaise merits being his signature dish. We have been here three times since Gerard joined Coal FIred and all the courses are excellently prepared and seemed to be getting better with each visit.
11/14/2013 4:00:00 PM
This place has the best pasta dish and the wine bar was an excellent distraction and activity while my date and I were waiting for the main course. Perfect first date idea!
11/29/2013 4:00:00 PM
The food that we were served tasted ok but it what we received was not the food on the menu. The live music was nice but way too loud. It would have been nice to hear Christmas music.
