Quite possibly the best meal
Quite possibly the best meal I have ever had in Richmond. The staff here is amazing and know their menu well! We sampled three different appetizers all of which were fabulous! The goat cheese Crostini was my favorite but the hearts of palm were a close second! The Bistro steak was the most tender steak I have had. I will go back again and again for this! The lamb and trout my friends ordered were also met with high praise! The Crème Brulee for dessert was just perfect! The only negative thing I could say was I was a bit confused when I entered the restaurant, as the first one there the décor made me wonder if I had come in the wrong door or perhaps need to go grab a towel and a bar of soap. The dining area however was beautiful!

We thoroughly enjoyed our
We thoroughly enjoyed our evening. We took the opportunity to try Bistro Bobette during restaurant week 2013 and found the fixed price menu to have a variety of choices. My husband had the flounder which was delicious while I had the shrimp risotto, also delicious although I thought the risotto was slightly undercooked. Our waiter was quite helpful and attentive. We would definitely return to Bistro Bobette in the future.

A wonderfully romantic place.
A wonderfully romantic place. The duck confit is absolutely delicious paired with the Malbec. Wendy, the co-owner, is a delight paired with her Parisian chef in the kitchen.

Like a party in Lyon
I would have said Paris, but the staff was friendly, not snooty. We had a marvelous evening at Bistro Bobette. The cocktails were refreshing, not sweet. We really enjoyed talking to the manager and bartender (we're from DC and the chef ran Lavandou for many years). The food - charcuterie plate, rabbit stew, halibut steak, creme brûlée - was some of the best we've ever had. The tables around us were talking moral philosophy, travel and singing. Great, romantic, fun, sophisticated evening! We'll be traveling back to Richmond to return.

Delicious, amazing food and I'm vegan and my partner's vegetarian so that's saying quite a bit. Our server was very helpful with recommendations and did not act put out by my many questions about ingredients.

Superb Dining Experience!
What an unexpected surprise! As consummate travelers and foodies , this has been the finest , most memorable, well executed food available anywhere.
Escargot superior, well seasoned with garlic, Pernod and butter served piping hot in French cast iron cookware.
Phyllo dough wrapped pork trotters, a foodie delight. Diver sea scallops, best we have ever had!
No Chef handles Calf's liver quite like this French Chef. Truly memorable.
Homemade Profiteroles and perfect creme brulle to finish.
Hip, vibrant atmosphere and excellent customer service. Hostess and owner made sure guests were taken care of.
A fun and lively crowd. We will be back!!!

We happened upon this little
We happened upon this little restaurant purely by chance a few years ago and have continued dining there ever since. We love this place! The food is scrumptious, the wait staff attentive and there are always specials along with the regular menu items that will exceed your expectations. It is a small, intimate restaurant though so don't expect to be seated immediately on weekends without a reservation but trust me, if you do have to wait, it's worth it.

Bistro Bobette - Nice Find
Even though I've lived here for many years, I never make it to the Shockhoe Slip area very often for dinner. We were planning dinner with another couple and wanted to try something different and stumbled upon this nice gem. Other than the protesters outside who were protesting against the restaurant's foie gras appetizer (which we did not eat nor would we eat) it was a very pleasant evening. We had a goat cheese and carmelized onion tart as an appetizer. I had the avocado gazpacho, which was not my favorite - a little heavy. However, the halibut dish I had was delightful and perfectly cooked. Perfect restaurant for a special occassion dinner or just a casual dinner with friends.

I liked everything but the rabbit dish. It tasted very good but I ran across small bones while eating it.

"In the Mood"
For a relaxed yet notable "hot spot"...the atmosphere is romantic and elegant while you are doted upon ......not a mistake on the menu, the cuisine is impeccable, mouth watering and memorable......one of my favorite Cary Street "go'to's" :P

My wife and I had a wonderful meal. The service was attentive but not overbearing and let us dine at our leisure. From appetizer to desert, everything was fabulous!

A return visit
Always enjoy this restaurant, we have been there many times and continue to return for occasions. It was my friend's birthday and we had a lovely evening with lots of attention from the staff even on a Saturday evening. Food always enjoyable and reliable.
7/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
nice small intimate bistro, service was outstanding, everything was timed for an enjoyable, unhurried dining experience. The charcuterie plate was a delight with varied cheeses and salamis that included local items. The smoked ham wrapped chicken was moist, tender and seasoned just right, with truffle mac and cheese that we all loved. The Wednesday steak special was cooked to perfection, not a bite left over. Nice variety of delicious desserts. We will definitely return and recommend to friends.

Our go to Bistro for business, friends and fun. European sensibility,( which business associates and foodies relate to).
Hip, fun and energetic. The food quality, presentation, service and special wine list explains the popularity and success of our favorite restaurant.
Always a treat. Keep up the great work!!!

The food was outstanding and
The food was outstanding and overall, we had a great experience. However, we were a little displeased with our service. We waited 20 minutes for our wine to arrive after placing our drink order and then another 15 minutes to place our food order. We noticed that smaller tables were getting served ahead of us by our server that were seated after us, causing us to wait even longer. Once we finally got our food, everything was fantastic and the food was just as great as all the reviews we had heard. But when we made a reservation at 7:30- we were not expecting to finally be eating our main course after 9 P.M.

A friend and I dined during
A friend and I dined during the Shockoe Slip and Bottom restaurant week. We both selected from a prix fixe menu, offering a choice among 3 courses. The watermelon and strawberry salad was really refreshing and light; we both had a veal breast (really a roulade) stuffed with sausage - delicious; dessert was strawberry sorbet and creme caramel. By the time our waiter checked with us for a dessert order, the chocolate mousse was gone. While the restaurant was filled, the noise level was not at the weekend height and
having a table in the front window helped.

One of the Best....
in RVA for delicious food, great service, atmosphere. Very consistent and a definite favorite for not only us, but for taking guests from out of town. Everyone is always totally impressed, even our foodie friends from San Francisco and Charleston.

Bistro Bobette - Wonderful
It was my first visit to Bistro Bobette. I will certainly find my way back to this great restaurant with family and friends. In today's environment when everyone is so busy and moving fast, it was great to have lunch in a relaxing atmosphere.
The food was delicious, presented so beautifully and served by staff that showed so much attention to detail.

Marvelous Meal at Bistro Bobette
Whether it was the appetizers, or the entrees, or the desserts, the cuisine was exceptional. The chef did an amazing job! Also, our server was cordial, attentive (but not overbearing), and very, very knowledgeable. His recommendations were superlative, and his service was top-notch. Well Done, Bistro Bobette!!!

A bit of France, the feel of NYC
BIstro Bobette transports you to Paris with its marvelous cuisine - the best mussels I've ever had on this planet - with the feel of being in an intimate, upscale New York landmark such as the 21 Club. Great food, great service, and a wonderful wine list makes it a trifecta of perfect. The owners are in the kitchen (the chef) and on the floor (Wendy), making the place personal and warm. A great gem of a restaurant In a foodie town.

France in Shockoe Slip
Lunch in France? Close enough. In downtown Richmond Bistro Bobette is a small restaurant that will transport you to France. My wife and I dined for lunch recently and had a great experience. We started by splitting an octopus salad. My entrée was a quail that was well seasoned and very flavorful.
The wine list is good, but pricey (nothing under $30). The good news is that you can get an authentic varietal. We ordered a white bordeaux. This paired very well with the octopus and quail.
The service started well, but became slack at the end. This is the type of meal that you don't rush. Just enjoy. The pricey were mid to upper range, but you get what you pay for. All good.

This was an amazing restaurant.
This was an amazing restaurant. The staff were pleasant and helpful. We are still talking about the meal 2 weeks later! Definitely a great place for an Anniversary celebration or just an awesome meal.
10/5/2013 12:00:00 AM
I brought my girlfriend here on the night we became official. We came back one year later on the exact date and had another wonderful time. The food is superb and the staff are professional, knowledgeable about the food and very kind.
10/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great Lunch Spot
I eat lunch there at least once a week. Great upscale lunch spot at reasonable prices.
10/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great French cuisine!
The food was excellent; authentic and tasted amazing! The service was great, a little slower than I'd prefer, but definitely worth the wait. It was a little loud, noise-wise; however, the food and atmosphere are worth it!

Outstanding food. Wine is a little pricey, but certainly acceptable. Since we were there during Richmond Restaurant Week, the restaurant was very crowded, quite noisy and a little slow. It serves some of the best food in Richmond.

My wife and I had a most pleasant
My wife and I had a most pleasant dining experience for Richmond's Restaurant Week, when all too often, dining establishments are very crowded and it feels like they are trying to turn over tables rapidly. Bistro Bobette featured a well-selected menu for the occasion, and our meals of stuffed veal breast and daube were outstanding. Our waiter, Tony, provided service far better than the norm in Richmond. He knew the menu and made excellent recommendations. In addition, his attention to detail, such as asking before clearing plates, was outstanding. Tony was attentive without hovering. All around, this was a delightful dining experience, and we will absolutely return.
10/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
The staff is extremely friendly and coordinated well between us having a drink at the bar and getting us seated at our table when it was ready. The food was superb and highly recommend the entrée stews. We don't get to go out often without the kids for a nice dinner so it is important we pick a great place. Bistro Bobette did not let us down and surpassed our hopes in every aspect.

Restaurant Week at Bistro Bobette
On arrival there was a delay occasioned by a t.v. crew shooting a special supposedly because of the chef ( all this word of mouth
from people at the bar0. eventually we were seated and given menus. I had a glass of the "house" cab. sauv. while at the bar and
wanted nothing more to do with that so ordered a glass of merlot which was better. Our first course was a very nice venison pate
with cornichon and a tasty homemade mustard sauce which would have been improved had we been given a better offering of
bread. I was pleased by the "steak and frites" for my second course. Desserts were tasty. Glancing at the regular menu I noted
that the wine list capped at $375 and a ribeye steak commanded $36 so my future visits may be for lunch.
10/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
Spectacular as always!
I was the first person to write a review of Bistro Bobette when they joined Open Table as Bouchon and have never regretted the praise I gave them at that time. The food continues to be top-notch and the service always spot-on. This visit we had the Pate de Fois Gras followed by the Beef Tenderloin Medallions and the Grilled Salmon. All were perfectly prepared, flavorful, and not a moment overcooked. The waiter had thoughtful suggestions on the food and possible wine pairings and was quick to see to our needs. We chose the Fig Gelato and the Hazelnut Profiteroles for dessert and both were yummy. What a fantastic Birthday Celebration, complete with a candle in my profiterole!

Bistro on the James (not the Seine)
This comfortable neighborhood establishment (near the heart of Richmond city) offers up the warmth, friendliness and tasty fare that the word "Bistro" implies. The menu is a mix of classic Gallic oferings and other items closer to home. I doubt you get the Ahi Tuna Sashimi or Sauteed Virginia Trout that I enjoyed in Paris or Provence. But if one does wish to pretend that they are dining in La Belle France, go for the escargot followed by cassoulet. Or a charcuterie plate followed by a Daube de Boeuf. And the wine list is heavily French.
There is no pretence at fine dining; this is very, very good food serveg in a casual, friendly atmosphere by people who seem to be enjoying themselves, and who wish their customers to do the same.

Excellent Food in Shockoe Slip
We were first time diners here and had a wonderful meal. I ordered three appetizers - excellent oysters on the half shell, ahi tuna and the grilled octopus. All were perfectly prepared and tasted delicious. My wife ordered the escargot and filet mignon both of which she enjoyed although the steak had a little too much sauce for her liking. The restaurant is small and intimate. Our table was located in the aisle about a foot from the back of a booth. We were literally right on top of the nearby couple. My beer was hot and the champagne and bit tepid. The food was top notch and we will definitely return. Service was excellent.

A gem where a visiting diner is treated like a regular with knowledgable, unpretentious service. The food and wine list

Wonderful Dining Experience
My Wife and I were visiting Richmond and stopped for dinner. The overall experience was fantastic. We started with olives, then a meat and cheese appetizer, then beef tenderloins for our main course, and the chocolate mousse for dessert. Everything tasted fantastic. The olives tasted great, but were a bit soft from soaking in oil too long. Our beef tenderloin medallions were prepared well and tasted great, but they were warm when served (the side dish was nice and hot - perhaps timing in the kitchen was a bit off). Despite these two minor items, the experience was awesome. We would go back again if we are in Richmond again.

Wonderful French foods
The food was spectacular and the service was great. We went on a Monday because there was no corkage fee. We have many very good French wines, so it made sense to use our own even though they have a good wine list. We even got the table we wanted! We'll definitely go again.
11/17/2013 4:00:00 PM
While in town from San Francisco (foodie capital of US!) visiting my family, we snagged reservations at Bistro Bobette for a nice Friday night out. The staff was extremely helpful in making wine and food recommendations - I got the salmon with brussel sprouts and a glass of Pinot Noir. Everything was delicious! The owner came out and checked in on us and told us they're opening a new, private dining room for private parties. I would definitely reserve it for a family gathering or other celebration.
After dinner we moved over to the bar and the bartender created one of a kind drinks for us based on our preferences. Mine had St. Germain, Hentrix gin and champagne. Delish!
5 stars all around.
11/28/2013 4:00:00 PM
Our first visit to Bistro Bobette ensured that this little gem would be on our list every time we travel to Richmond. We dined on a Wednesday evening and all tables were taken. The atmosphere is very old world European without being pretentious, which we found charming. The restaurant is quite small, but we were comfortably seated and able to carry on our conversation without being overrun by chatter from other diners. The menu is not extensive (which we think is often a good thing) but offers something for all taste preferences. Wine list was great. Service was terrific - timely, pleasant, unobtrusive. Most importantly, the food was excellent and we can definitely that we've a found a place that is now on our "favorites" list.

My wife and I had a marvelous dinner at Bistro Bobette while in Richmond to visit our daughter at VCU. Very thoughtful and perfectly executed special menu items. I wish we had had more room to sample more choices. We'll simply have to return to explore the regular menu! Wendy made it feel like we were dinner guests in her dining room! We most certainly will return.

Tarte Tatin To Die For
The best tarte tatin we've tasted (including in Paris). The smoked ham wrapped chicken breast with a shallot, sage, and pine nut wine sauce was absolutely delicious and perfectly cooked. Outstanding dishes we would have at every visit. A very nice dinner and a perfect venue.
9/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
Good Experience Overall
The interior is not necessarily 'European' (i.e. especially with the use of tablecloths). The food, however, is excellent though a bit overpriced. It was rather noisy during my visit, but there had apparently been a recent graduation, and there was a large group standing in the front because they had not reserved tables. I would imagine this normally being a relatively quiet restaurant. Both the lighting and spacing of tables was very nice, with the ambience definitely geared toward smaller, more intimate groups.

Casual French Dinning
My wife and I celebrated our wedding anniversary at Bistro Bobette where we had a great meal with attentive service. Unlike so many restaurants that seem to always be rushing you to the next course --and out the door to make room for another seating--we were allowed to set our own pace with cocktails and a terrific appetizer of cheese and sausage, followed by entrees of delicious rainbow trout and scallops perfectly prepared. The entrees were followed by coffee and dessert. I had mentioned we were celebrating our anniversary when making the reservation and we were given the best table for two in the house and the dessert was complimentary. A relaxing 2 hour plus meal and we will be back.
10/1/2013 12:00:00 AM
We had our first dining ezperience here this past Saturday and it was nothing short of perfection. From the immediate warm greeting to the exquisite food and not to mention one of our favorite wine bottles to date, I can't find one negative thing to say. Our server was extremely knowledgeable and was willing to find out the answers to anything unknown to him.
This restaurant will most definitely see our faces again!!

Excellent Meal in Great Setting
My wife and I both ordered menu items, though the night's specials also sounded great. My sweetbreads were crispy and delicious and not something I would usually order. My wife had the Salmon with spaghetti squash, which she loved. We really enjoyed the intimate bistro atmosphere and our waiter Andy was very helpful and attentive. We would definitely return and advise others to go to Bistro Bobette as well.
10/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
A real find in Richmond, a city not necessarily known for great food. Everything about this place is great, including the wine selection, service, ambience, and of course the relatively straightforward but delicious French bistro food.

Love this place!
This is our go-to place for special occasions. The food is always fantastic and the service is outstanding.

Superior food, service, and ambiance. Intelligible but creative menu. Perfect preparation and plating of all dishes. Serene atmosphere. Dinner took 2 1/2 hours. That's how it's done, people. The staff is attentive and friendly but not invasive. We were not upsold, pitched to, schmoozed, bamboozled, or patronized by know-it-all servers. Do you know how rare this is in Richmond? It's like Bobette imports its staff from another planet. Several tables of native French-speakers all seemed at home. This ain't Can Can. These people mean business, and every restaurant in town could learn from them. Highest rating.
