Great food, but sushi chef
Great food, but sushi chef is severely overworked. The restaurant is too big for him to serve. My friend and I both had the nigiri sushi omakase and it took over 90 minutes to get the meal.

We love uni so when I read about Soto in Zagat I booked a reservation. Specific dishes that stood out were the uni cocktail, the uni tempura, and the karei karaage. Soto respected the delicate nature of uni but also beautifully enhanced and embellished its taste. Worth every penny.

Have been to "Soto" at least
Have been to "Soto" at least 4 times. It is probably my favorite Japanesse restaurant in New York City. The Omakase has always been terrific.
It is truly one of the great sushi experiences at the world !

Sushi with finesse!
Absolutely the best place in town for sushi. Finesse is what it is all about. Razor sharp precision.....

I can say it's around top
I can say it's around top sushi in NYC, specially UNI. But, there are too much time gap b/w the foods. Also, you need to share some dishes with your company.
I have to share one Uni and one lobster dish with my friend and it's really small........ I saw four people share a small plate in my next table. It's LOL......

Best Japanese I have ever eaten
the food was so special - tastes and aromas I didn't even know existed. It's not just the sushi (that was splendid), every course was was a feast. My favorite was Uni cocktail. all in all it is the place for people who like sea-urchin.

Every dish I was served was the best thing I had ever tasted up until that point, and each dish was better than one before. Soto's small plates and appetizers are the definition of refinement and balance, served in near perfect progression by a the very talented Sotohiro Kosugi. Having eaten at Le Bernardin, Per Se, Jean Georges, Marea, and Eleven Madison Park, I can honestly say the quality and creativity of Soto's dishes stand up to all the heavyweights, while often besting them in a more casual and relaxed environment. Judging on cuisine alone, Soto earns a place at the top of the ladder in NYC. Go early, sit at the sushi bar, in clear view of the master, and you will probably avoid the service pitfalls bemoaned by many of Soto's critics

Some of the best sushi to
Some of the best sushi to be had in New York. It's on the expensive side, but well worth it.

Great but don't come hungry
Awesome food, however, portions are tiny and it takes forever to get your orders. Allow at least 2.5 hours

We followed Soto from Atlanta to New York. Whenever we are in town, the place to eat uni, lobster and other superior shusi.
Soto has the freshest, tastiest sashimi.

They have many dishes based with uni (sea urchin) cooked in à very original, unusal, and delicious ways. And very good sake

My wife and me love Japanese food and we have try quite a lot Japanese restaurants but Soto was totally different, all the dishes was perfectly prepared and the dessert was totally unforgettable, the combination of the jelly and the ice-cream perfect. One of the best Japanese restaurants in the world out of Japan

Special sushi meal.
Lovely start to finish. The experience has lingered with me. Not cheap, but worthy the money.

Best sushi ever
Soto has spoiled me forever....cannot go back to my ex-favorite sushi spots. Soto's menu's are printed daily. Their sushi is incredibly fresh, perfectly served and gorgeous to look at and taste. The uni and giant clam were the best I ever had. Service was fantastic....a perfect night with perfect sushi

Everything. One of the best Japanese food in NYC
Sushi is great (try sushi sisho) desserts unforgettable
All dishes we try were perfect and tasty

The uni was so fresh. The cooked fish was a bit on the dry side....i think it was overcooked - didn't enjoy that very much. But, the uni dishes were just remarkable.

Best Uni in NYC
Unbelievable experience. I was recommended by a friend and the food exceeded even her amazing reviews she ranted to me. I will be a regular at Soto now. We tried about 10 different dishes (tapas style) and were blown away by all of them. Best Uni in NYC!

Best sushi in nyc
Excellent meal, very fresh fish. Recommend reservation ask for table, it is small and fills fast. Hard to find as no name out front! On Ave of America just down from 4th near village. I have tried many sushi restaurants in NYC, this is by far the best, and closest to a true Japanese experience.

I want to come again
Food: " meraviglioso"
Service: kindly but slowly
Ambience: frindly but too much cold air conditioned for us (italiani)
Next time in New York we shall come again. I never tried good food as at Soto!

Soto is the place to go for the finest sushi in NYC. Truly authentic and prepared with skill and grace - Kosugi san is a master and a perfectionist. He has an uncompromising standard for preparing the best, and it shows in the quality and taste of his creations. It is truly a special place.

I had a reservation for 6:15
I had a reservation for 6:15 PM, and when I came at 6:07 I was told: "we are not ready yet, please, come back at 6:15". I was not going to start eating immediately, so I don't know why they didn't usher me to wait inside. Rather strange.g

Not two stars
Soto is our favorite Japanese in NY. Yet two Michelin stars are not inline with the experience there. The food is excellent for sure, but service is lagging behind. Getting knowledgeable input on the Sake list is difficult, and a two-starred Michelin spot should have a competent beverage program. Perhaps the most disturbing element is that the Chef, though brilliant, has an anger management issue. In maybe 6 visits in the last few years, on 3 occasions there was an angry outburst by the Chef directed towards the staff. It is one thing when the chef is behind a closed door in his kitchen, not essentially in the dining room as is the case at Soto.

we had Omakase course which
we had Omakase course which is outstanding. the best Omakase we have ever had. they are perfectly spiced which some Michlin restaurants often missed. Love the uni dishes they did. the only dish we don't care that much is the first shrimp and mushroom soup, which is like soaking them in the water. I wish they also alternating hot/warm food with cold food instead of most of them are cold food. I usually prefer warm food. otherwise it's one of the best food we have had in NY with above 27 restaurants in Zagat.

The food live up to its Michellin billing
Food was exquisite service was attentive and ambiance was clean and minimalistic
10/11/2013 5:00:00 PM
The best uni I've had in the city. Each dish was expertly prepared, delicious and surprisingly complex. Service was also superb.

An Uni's Lovers Paradise
This was my second time at this restaurant and will definately be going more often. Some of the best uni and Japanese food in the city and the uni portions are gracious and delicious!
11/15/2013 4:00:00 PM
This must be by far the best Sushi/Sashimi/raw seafood restaurant in Manhattan. The sea urchin was the most delicious I ever had. Service was very friendly and helpful.
11/17/2013 4:00:00 PM
What a great experience is to eat at this restaurant! The food is just amazing. If you like Japanese food you will love this place. It was a little pricey, but it was worth every penny!
