Having dined at many Italian restaurants in Chicago and Chicago land, this remains our favorite. Food and service are outstanding!

Dinner and a Show
We dined here before attending the Million Dollar Quartet at the Apollo Theatre also located in Lincoln Park. It was a perfect night out. My husband loved his pork tenderloin and I loved the Tortelloni filled with Sheep Ricotta Cheese and Spinach finished with a Sage Butter. The pasta was so light and fresh. The Apple Pie and Ice Cream were delicious and save room for the complimentary taste of Almond Biscotti after the meal. Just note the Panzanella Salad was very good but really similar to the complimentary Bruschetta - because of that I would opt for a different salad next time..

We were in Chicago to celebrate
We were in Chicago to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. Neither one of us were familiar with the city and this restaurant came recommended to us by a "foodie" friend. It was simply amazing!! Every course was fabulous! Next time we are in the city we will make sure to eat at Riccardo Trattoria again!!
7/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
I don't make it over to Riccardo's as ofter as I would like. Kind of silly since I live close by. In any case, I always anticipate my reservation w/ a big smile. I know it's going to be a wonderful dinner w/ service to match!!!

Did not disappoint!
One of our friends recommended Riccardo Trattoria, and it did not disappoint! Great, authentic Italian food. Everything was delicious...bread, apps, pasta, pork, tiramisu. Food is priced reasonably (considering how good it is, and portions were generous). Wish they offered some wine for less than $11 a glass (I think that was the cheapest if I recall), but the Chianti was quite good nonetheless. Just meant I had 1 glass instead of 2 ;-) Overall it was excellent and would definitely go back! Highly recommend it!

Great Dining Experience
This is an authentic Italian restaurant. From the ambiance to the professional wait staff to the food. All very, very good. Was just visiting Chicago but will be back on my next visit.

A lovely, first class restaurant!
We have been to Riccardo's often, and never fail to be impressed by the food (delicious) and the excellent, personal service. In particular, on this visit, we brought a guest who has a walker, and necessarily moves quite slowly. I had requested in advance a table that would be easily accessible for our guest who had a walker. The restaurant staff thoughtfully seated us at a table near the entrance, with maneuverable room (and, table), to accommodate the walker. We were checked on frequently, and the food (breaded calamari, lobster ravioli, rack of lamb, grouper) was excellent and perfectly cooked. This is a wonderful, intimate restaurant, and the experience is all the better given the highly personal and thoughtful service.

So many choices...
There is an extensive menu. We had our waiter make some recommendations and all were excellent. Flavors and preparation were great and the portion size on some of the dishes were gigantic. When ordering the appetizers, ask about the size because it may be prudent to share items. We brought in wine, corkage $20 per bottle. The waiter insisted on changing our glasses when we opened the second bottle, we let him sample the wine. Terrific service, great food. We would definitely return.

This was our first trip to Chicago and we were looking for a great Italian dinner and we were not disappointed! Everything we has was excellent. We will definitely be back again. High on our list is the flatbread and calamari appetizers. Spaghetti carbonara, porcini risotto and the veal ravioli. Don't forget dessert! Mixed berries and the gelato were delightful.
8/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
From the moment we arrived and seated we were treated as "special"!! The Organic first cold pressed Olive Oil and Parmesan Cheese that tasted like the real thing we had in Italy, was only superseded by the incredible Porchini Mushroom Risoto! All 4 of us were extremely pleased with our entre!
8/4/2013 5:00:00 PM
My husband and I made reservations to eat here with friends to celebrate our 46th wedding ann'y. Perfect choice. Service was great and food delicious. We were even given tiramisu as a recognition from the restaurant. We were very happy we chose this destination for special occasion.

A Treat For Foodies!
Honestly, one of the best Italian meals I have ever had including my three trips to Italy. The Calamari was best ever, my Risotto was superb and velvety and the wines were divine. If you like quality Italian, and casually elegant restaurants, this is a must on your dining to do list. Can't wait to take my husband on a return trip to Chicago.
8/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
Excellent. As always..
This is as close to dining in Italy as one will find this side of the Atlantic!! Brings back many happy memories..

Authentic local value
Great place with fabulous food and attentive service. Authentic menu with everything you could want and perfectly prepared. Wine list with something for every palate and price range. Unpretentious. Half size portions of all pasta dishes make ordering an array of dishes possible without glutinous volumes of food. Service is so attentive. No fancy architecture, just great food and service. A+

Feels like you're in Rome
Riccardo's is charming and the food is spot on. Reservations are a must and if you're on time so are they! I think most of the wait staff are Italian, dignified, gracious and clearly enjoying their job. I'm also pretty sure the waiters pace the service to the pace of those at the table. Customers are king. Cocktails are accompanied by a small plate of bruschetta with tomatoes that taste like the real thing. You can relax because you will not be rushed to place your order. Special requests are no trouble, this place aims to serve. On the menu you will see squash blossom flowers, carpaccio, homemade seafood ravioli which are a few of my favorites. Enoteca across the street has great food too. Gotta love Riccardo--see you there!

Great restaurant with fantastic food and service! I will definitely go back!

Wonderfully pleasant surprise!
Cozy & intimate atmosphere, professional, old fashioned attention to service. Greatly varied & authentic Italian menu. Hard to choose from so many truly great dishes. I would suggest getting many appetizers & an entree. The bruschetta was simple yet delicious, the tuna tartar was fresh & spicy, the porcini mushroom risotto was smooth & scrumptious. I didn't care for the mussels but my family did. The bacon wrapped scallops were heaven. Our server paired our meal with the perfect Italian red. We had a great experience. NOT inexpensive but worth the splurge! I will definitely return to try some of the items I missed. Only negative- stale, smell upon entering the restaurant. I have one of those sensitive noses & something was not right.

Riccardo never disappoints. I lived in Italy for over 5 years, and this is the real deal. Outstanding.

My New Favorite
Can't believe this restaurant has been here for almost ten years. Dear friends introduced me to it two weeks ago and I'm in love. A real gem -- good food, good service, good atmosphere. This review is for my second visit and I've already booked my next two reservations. I don't know why anyone would every want to go any where else for Italian!
9/8/2013 12:00:00 AM
piece of Italy
Just like the food back in Italy. It brought me back to my days living in Italy. My veal saltinbocca was amazing. It was tender and flavorfull. My wife fish stew contained half the animals of the sea. Huge portion and she said it was delicious!
9/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
one of my favorite restaurants in the city. The food is great, fresh, contemporary Italian with standards, great wine list, great service. Riccardo Trattoria is winner!

Well worth the drive
Beautiful old high ceiling building that made a small restaurant feel roomy. Pleasant knowledgeable staff. Thoughtfully assembled Wine list with good selections and price points. Extensive and very interesting menu, Pasta with sausage was perfectly prepared and beef carpaccio was nicely presented (would have liked to try the smoked swordfish carpaccio which was one of the daily specials) . Tasty 16 ounce veal chop came exactly as ordered, and whole Dover sole was presented as such , we were asked if we wanted it boned and it was returned nicely presented, cooked perfectly and tasted very fresh. Had the Tartufo for dessert, one of the best I have had, freshly prepared, perfect temperature and great taste. I will be back many times more.
9/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
This small gem continues to serve great really authentic Italian cusine with great service and a friendly atmosphere. the wine list is almost all Italian and has several well priced sleepers. (Campaccio super tuscan was great). Always crowded, but worth the effort.
9/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great Italian Trattoria
Great food for less than you would expect to pay, friendly service, warm atmosphere. I will certainly be back.
9/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
Hard to get a reservation, but for very good reason. The food is excellent as is the broad selection of dishes. The service is also outstanding. And, all for a moderate price tag when you are finished, even after a nice bottle of wine from their nice but not overwhelming wine selection. Very close to a dining experience in an excellent, but unpretensious restaurant in Rome or Florence.
9/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
Our experience at this restaurant could not have been better. The atmosphere, food, wine and service were excellent. While everything was delicious be sure and try the fried Zucchini Blossoms. My wife is a gourmet cook and in the summer we grow Zucchini mainly to get the blossoms that she stuffs and fries. I always thought hers were the best I ever had but we both agreed these were absolutely the best ever. If you don't like this place you need psychiatric help.

This was our first visit to Chicago and Riccardo Trattoria was a highlight of a great trip. The food was great. The menu items were creative creations based on classic Italian dishes. The service was exceptional. We felt like we were in a neighborhood restaurant in Italy.

Like in Italy
I've never had a dish here that I didn't love. The asparagus soup, porcini risotto, short ribs were all fabulous.

Best Italian food outside of Italy!
We have enjoyed the food in Italy, and this restaurant is as good as being there. Beautifully fresh ingredients and perfectly seasoned. I'm salivating just reminiscing about the meal! Very, very reasonably priced. We visited two Michelin restaurants in Chicago and Ricardo's was just as good, but much more affordable. Not to be missed!

WONDERFUL BIRTHDAY DINNER
We had a great experience at Riccardo Trattoria. It was our first time at this quaint and neighborhood eatery. While enjoying delicious pre-dinner drinks we munched on very tasty bruchetta. Our waiter, Nino, could not have been more accomodating to our desire to relax a bit. Upon ordering, Nino, helped with the final selection of wine to have with our dinners. My husband, having a Lobster and Crab Ravioli and I had Grilled Prawns and Scallops. Both meals were tremendous. We finished off our meal with Panna Cotta and cappucino. This is on our list of must visit again and again.

Terrific informal Italian food
Great food, the pappardelle goat pasta was to die for and the Branzino and Dover sole superbly done. Great Italian food

Riccardo Trattoria is always exceptionable. Great food & excellent service.
10/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
Been searching since April for a real italian place with a neighborhood fell and finally found it. Riccardo's has a wide menu--all looks fresh and very traditional. Great service and really nice place---not over the top but very warm environment.

out of town treat
We were in Chicago for one nite and looking for great italian food -- came across Ricardo's in the various reviews and really enjoyed our meal there. The starters were delicious (burrata, zucchini blossoms and some other tasty treats). We all had pasta or risotto and were not disappointed. Great neighborhood find and great value for the $$.
10/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
excellent evening, food and wine
A wonderful night out. The seating is limited, and hard to get in on a Saturday night, so plan ahead.
The menu is extensive, and the veal and pasta well prepared and excellent value. The wines are a bit pricey, and limited to Italian wines only.

A true Little Italy
From the moment that you walk in the door you know that you're going to enjoy a great meal. Before you're welcomed by friendly and warm staff, you'll be captivated by the great smells that fill the restaurant from the kitchen. It's a smaller restaurant with simple tables, chairs, cutlery and all the other little things that you find in a traditional trattoria in Italy. The amount of choice that the menu offers will be sure to satisfy everybody from a small group of people to a large group. This restaurant definitely gets its reputation from what counts the most..........the quality and taste of THE FOOD.

Real Italian Dining
We love this restaurant for the genuine Italian Milanese food. It's like being in Italy--tables bustling and close together but not uncomfortably so, friendly service, great pastas and more.
10/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food was everything I
The food was everything I was hoping for. The dessert was just as good as they featured one I haven't been able to find in many restaurants
10/28/2013 5:00:00 PM
Very good food but the restaurant
Very good food but the restaurant should add curtains or something to buffer the noise, when it's full.

What a wonderful restaurant!!!
Riccardo's Trattoria was lovely! Went there because I had read on-line review that it had been voted top Italian restaurant in Chicago (last year? Not sure), and it lived up to its review for my friend and I. Nice quiet residential setting. Excellent food. Very good selection of specials, as well as a very good choice of standard menu items. Wine selection was not huge but very nice. Service was very attentive. Overall- I would go back there again when I am next in Chicago.

Ricardo's is a very good neighbor
Ricardo's is a very good neighbor place with top-notch food and the feel, noise level and all, of a big group of friends who had gotten together for dinner. It hasppen to be exactly what my business associate and I needed after a lonmg day of meetings--comfort food for the body and mind.

Awesome Italian trattoria
This Lincoln Park restaurant is a gem. We would come back in a heartbeat when we are next in town. Everything we ate was spot on flavour wise. Kudos to the chef and to the wait staff.

Stellar Italian Experience
My wife and I had a wonderful first experience at Riccardo Trattoria. The food was the best Italian cuisine we have had in Chicago. The service was spot-on. My wife likes to make special requests and our waiter didn't bat an eye. The atmosphere is clean, traditional-yet-sleek and warm & cozy. We will absolutely be back and have already told a few friends about our great and new (to us) find.
