Fun night out in The City
My wife and I hopped on the Ferry and headed into town for a night out. As always, BIX was festive and the food and service were great. It's such a great room to hang out, share some bubbly, and have a bite.. Cheers to BIX!

Did not meet expectations.
I thought the reasturant was very elegant. I did not like the menu selection for entree's. Portions were very small and over priced. Wine was excellent , of course i selected the wine, Great for a one timer. i will not return.

Cross bet Studio 54 & Palace Cafe
Had just gotten to SF and knew of this restaurant for many years, finally decided to try it. Loud bar scene, mezzanine seating with music below you was so retro! But the food, it could not have been better. The fish, both dishes we had were perfectly executed, and I had a burger, go figure, but open faced, interesting presentation, but spot on fabulous! Server was extremely knowledgeable and attentive. Lively loud, but not uncomfortable.

Bix still keeps the beat
After all these years, Bix is still getting it done. Great food & service in a classic downtown setting. We have been coming for years and never leave disappointed.
A perfectly made martini, some piano in background and reliably delicious meal makes for a place that is now
An SF institution. Long Live Bix!

We went to the place several times about 10 years ago and somehow never made it back. We finally went back this weekend and it is still a great place to spend a night out. Great vibrant atmosphere. Solid menu with great attentive and informed service. The space has a timeless feel to it that makes you feel you're part of a movie set. The jazz band that filled the room with great sound was full of talent but not over powering.

We had a blast with a group of nine celebrating a birthday.

BIX is outstanding
Bix is really, without exaggeration, one of the best restaurants on the West Coast. In addition to its unique ambiance and intimate appeal, the food is amazing and the service is outstanding. A truly first-class experience.

My Bix experience
This restaurant did not dissapointed. My date and I started with tomatoe appetizer. Best tomatoes ever! Our main course consisted of the duck plate and chicken a la bix. This was my first time trying duck and it was amazing. My date and I shared our food, which made the experience that much better. Our evening ended with the ice cream and banana dessert. So delish! Would def recommend this place!

Still great after all these years!
I have been patronizing Bix since it first opened in 1988. While restaurants come and go in San Francisco, and others lose their touch, I can honestly say that Bix is still "on its game"! We brought friends from Florida here for a post-wedding dinner and they did not disappoint: from the moment you drive up the alley and walk in the door, the magic begins!
The service was excellent (if somewhat uninspired), but the food and ambiance were spot on! The menu is "comfort-food" inspired by the supper clubs from the 30's and 40's. From the appetizers to the main courses and finishing with dessert (Bananas Foster...what else?!?!), everything was perfect!
Our guests are still in awe and haven't stopped talking about the evening! Great job, Bix!

We love Bix.
We were disappointed with the hostess when she expressed disdain when we chose to transfer the bar tab to the dinner tab. And also when she did not offer to carry our drinks up the stairs. But our waiter was terrific as were the bus boys. The meal was outstanding. Especially the lobster spaghetti and the bananas foster. The jazz was just great. It was very loud, but I love the atmosphere at Bix. One of my favorite San Francisco restaurants.

The most beautiful restaurant in SF
Bix is a truly stunning location for a romantic dinner, or for high-powered business cocktails, or for making a tourist's life-time memory book. Secluded in Gold Alley, it's easy to miss even when you know where it is, and that makes it even more worth discovering.
The food is stellar - signature dishes that are made just right, and satisfy without being too frou-frou - solid, delicious cuisine perfectly prepared. The staff was right on the spot.
Go early if you are opposed to a wait - the place books up, for good reason.

Special evening in San Francisco
Old world charm, jazz, and just the right ambiance for a memorable evening. Menu is different. Always try something new and find the quality excellent. We always try to reserve a table whenever back in San Francisco. We have enjoyed this restaurant over the last 20 years.

Everything was great! From
Everything was great! From the semi hidden location down an alleyway, to the excellent service and great food! Took my wife for her birthday dinner. Great overall ambience, just a tad loud for wanting a more intimate dinner. Will definitely be back!! Try the potato pillows!

I love Bix
What can I say about this place. Fantastic atmosphere, great cocktails, old-school charm, deviled eggs and steak tartare. Just go.

Whenever we go to San Francisco,
Whenever we go to San Francisco, we make a point of eating at Bix! We love everything about it: the ambiance, the music, the staff, the food and wine! Bix has maintained the highest level of quality over the many years we have visited.

The food was excellent. Couldn't get a 7:30 reservation. It would have been nice to have the piano player earlier than 8:00PM
10/10/2013 12:00:00 AM
While visiting the city we always make it a point to come here. Make your reservation well in advance then be prepared to wait for your table. The place is always jumping with excitement. The bar is packed but the wait is fun while sipping the great cocktails made by the attentive bartenders. The food is great, well worth the wait.
10/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
I am so happy we went to Bix! The ambiance was very pleasant and the service was great. Not too fancy or stuff, but still upscale. The server was friendly and warm, and still managed to check in on us when she was busy. The other staff who helped refill water and take away plates was spot-on as well. Good drinks and yummy food. The types of food are on the heavier side (carbs, meat, etc.). It's definitely not a place I can afford to go all the time, but I would recommend it just to try. The plates are pretty expensive but I think it was worth it.
10/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
A wonderful, special occasion, or any occasion evening in a surprising location...down an tiny alley that opens to a spacious, piano-music filled bar and expansive 2-story dining space that is elegant and comfortable, on this side of cinematic - unpretentious and inviting. The service was efficient and unobtrusive, attentive and personable. The Restaurant's hostess was extremely understanding in our driving delay with traffic. Deviled eggs, lobster spaghetti, toasted brioche crab roll and, yes, their coffee, were delightful and satisfying. Pick Bix!
10/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
Food was good with great presentation. Freshly baked rolls before dinner were a nice touch. Service was a bit inattentive after we were finished with our entrees.
10/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
Bix was fantastic. The food
Bix was fantastic. The food was spectacular, service excellent and the whole restaurant was buzzing. Piano bar was a great touch. The upstairs dining had a great view of the whole place, but was also a little more private. Can't wait to come back!!

Art deco awesomeness
At BIX, the decor, space, service and menu all make me feel like I just sold my steam-engine company and am celebrating with great friends. It's got a timeless elegance and charm and solid staff, menu and delicious drinks.

Check out Bix
I took my girlfriend to Bix as part of a weekend long birthday celebration for her. I wanted to find a fun place with music, and Google eventually lead me to their front door. The ambiance was perfect. Busy with lots of people moving around, an active bar scene, and a pianist in the background. From the moment we walked in, the staff was awesome. Everyone had a smile, and they were all very courteous and sincere. We definitely felt welcome. After that, the evening just kept improving. The bone marrow appetizer was delicious and a significantly sized portion. The steak was amazing, and the wine list was excellent. If you're looking for a casual, and yet exceptional dinner, Bix is the place. I'm planning on being there again this month!

Bix still great 25 years later
My wife and I are from LA and our first trip before we were married 25 years ago was a weekend in San Francisco. At the time, Bix had just opened and was one of the "hottest" restaurants in the City. We loved it. This past weekend, we went back to the City for a long weekend and revisited Bix for the first time in 25 years. It was terrific. Service, ambience and food were all first rate. Great dinner for a special weekend.

The Stork Club Lives on at Bix
Bix is totally Major League: from decor to drinks to dining -- absolutely tops. It sets its own standards. After 25 years it remains unique in San Francisco and matched by only a few places in the USA. It Stork Club founder Sherman Billingsley were to come back to our world for one night only, this is where he’d want to go. If he could get a table. Given Bix’s ownership, he would get the best table in the house. This is a place to celebrate a major coup, to ask your beloved to marry you, to celebrate the marriage 25 years later. Sell your novel? This is where you take your editor when he or she comes to the Coast. Bix is that kind of place. You owe yourself an evening there.

I love this restaurant
I love going to Bix. It is always a treat when we have dinner at Bix. There were a few glitches this time, but even with that I enjoyed our dinner, the service and the ambience. I especially like the ambience. I often recommend Bix to friends.
10/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
Nestled in private Gold Street in San Francisco's delightful district, Bix is special, a winner .

Ambience with a capital A
Ambience with a capital A is the best way to describe Bix. Great food and service. Always a memorable dining experience.

We had a delicious dinner
We had a delicious dinner with friends from out of town. They really enjoyed the food, music and ambiance. We love Bix and will be back!
10/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
We went for our anniversary but had a previous experience. The food was good and tasty but not epic. The jazz band added to the ambiance. The cocktails were good also. An overall good experience but with so many other choices we'd probably not return anytime soon. Worth the visit though.
11/1/2013 12:00:00 AM
Lovely but could have been better
This was an anniversary dinner and my third time to BIX. This was just my girlfriend and I and it was at 6:30 on a Saturday. The service from our waitress was wonderful and the food superb. Water was always filled and the setting was great. The issues that I want to mention are minor, but worth noting. Unfortunately there is not much space allowed to write here so I will just say that this place is LOUD. When the pianist leaves to take a break, a recording of music comes on and you can barely hear yourself speak. Once made aware, the did turn it down. Also, if you come before the 7:30 dinner rush you will be made to feel hurried. This was the biggest gripe I had. Not enough to keep me away yet, but something management should be aware of.

Perfect for a special night out
Friends from out of town wanted to go someplace special, and Bix filled the bill. Our guests loved the glamorous room; we were upstairs, which helped somewhat muffle reduce the din from the bar area. Martinis poured from the shaker at table were a great start. We found the menu structure a bit unusual, but there were many interesting choices. The beet salad was like a painting - gorgeous to look at. We very much enjoyed the duck breast and the lobster with spaghetti; the jalapeno turned out to be the perfect note on the latter dish. Steak tartare was prepared tableside with a flourish. Our server was attentive without being overbearing. All in all, we found much to enjoy.

Always a good experience. And for having been around so long still underrated/ talked about.

The Best Part is the Music!
Bix was busy on a recent Thursday evening. The bar was packed. Our 7:30 reservation for two became an 8:00 seating at a small table along the banquette. No problem. Friendly service, good food, and wonderful ambiance, including a piano player and terrific jazz vocalist singing the standards at perfect volume. This was our third visit in 18 months. By all means try the potato pillows appetizer. It is sublime. Imagine fluffly tater tots with a smear of creme fraiche topped with caviar. OMG. My wife enjoyed the duck breast entree with chanterelles (a bit rich for my taste) and I inhaled the dorade with fennel and pears. Besides those potato pillows, the best thing about Bix is the jazz. Come for the food, then linger for the music.

From the delicious food to our top notch server Christopher, we couldn't have had a better evening out. BIX is a must!!

Sophisticated Dining at it's Best
We loved BIX - marvelous food and service; outstanding ambiance. Very sophisticated and romantic. Expensive but worth it for a special evening out with someone special.

Always a special destination
Because lunch is only available on Fridays, it's harder to get the opportunity to go there, but is aways a treat when we can. Between the elegant atmosphere, the unbelivable food, and the wonderful accustics making it easy to have a conversation without yelling at each other, this is one of my favorite destinations.
11/14/2013 4:00:00 PM
Nostalgic feel and great service
Bix is so easy. Transport yourself back in time, let the amazing bartenders so their thing in their old school way, relax to the jazz piano, the lighting sooths and then hand yourself over to the talented wait staff and let them feed you. I love the service here most of all, and there's a lot to like about everything. You just can't miss here. They are wonderful about food allergies and preferences.

Discovery of a true classic
Can't believe I'd never discovered Bix until now... a true dining experience. From the beautifully restored 1850 building, a registered historic landmark, to the impeccable, attentive, friendly-yet-professional service, the buoyant live jazz, delicious cuisine, and impressive yet approachable wine list... Bix is doing it all right. There's a reason a restaurant not only survives, but thrives, after 25 years and under the original ownership. We'll be back.

Great restaurant iconic
Everything in this restaurant was great. Food was awsome and perfectly presented. This is fine cuisine. Live jazz band is great. Loved the saxo. It is pricy, but well worth it.
Party of two, one bottle of wine (42), two startes, two main, one desert, around 180.
11/28/2013 4:00:00 PM
Everything is perfect from beginning to the end, we will come back again and again, and the pianist was fantastic.
11/30/2013 4:00:00 PM
Consistently great place!
This is the second time I've eaten here and it was just as great as the first. The ambiance is fun, and I love the live music. Waitstaff is nice and friendly.

Got word that Bix is open for lunch during the holiday season. Typically they only serve dinner and lunch on Friday. The word had not made the rounds yet so it was actually a great experience in that my friend and I could talk and hear each other without difficulty. I opted for the chicken hash which was a great comfort dish on a cold day and she had the Branzino which was done to perfection. As the designated driver I ordered a house orange soda which was perfect - not too sweet. The desserts were excellent (pomegranate and coconut sorbet with a plate of cookies). The decor and lighting make this more of an evening scene but it was nice to have a chance to try the restaurant during the day for a change.

A night to remember
This is a very comfortable place and the food is great.
The piano and singer work beautifully together and make the evening very special.

Impressed with Bix
Visited Bix on a rainy, Friday night and found a busy, happy place with good food and lots of people. The old dance hall ambience really lends the place some character, and the good food and energetic service confirmed that this is a find. We found the food to be excellent. The lobster pasta dish, one of the house specialties, was delicious, and the delicate dorado fish was cooked expertly. I would highly recommend this place and would definitely return.
12/5/2013 4:00:00 PM
Love the ambiance and energy of Bix! Had a $28 hamburger that was really good but come on, $28 for a hamburger!
Two of us had the burgers, two had pasta, we had two Caesar salads, one beet salad, no dessert and 4 glasses of wine. The bill (with tip) came to $300! Yikes! But tis the season, right?!
12/6/2013 4:00:00 PM
Great speakeasy jazz restaurant!
Awesome "speakeasy-type" restaurant hidden down a back alley with live jazz music. We had it recommended to us by a friend and it was well worth the visit. The wine list was fantastic and the menu was good although the quality of the food, to be honest, was average. The entire staff though was incredibly nice and the jazz piano playing Christmas music gave the restaurant a cozy and romantic feeling. Would definitely recommend.
