The fish is ALWAYS fresh!! This is by far the best sushi restaurant in the Valley. Order from the daily specials board and you will not be disappointed. Service is good and the wait staff are very knowledgeable. Great for a special occasion.

A great meal at Kiwami
The food is always great at Kiwami. And Friday night was no exception. The restaurant is run very well and the service was terrific. It's a regular go-to place!

The sushi never disappoints.
The sushi never disappoints. My kids love going here because the staff is friendly. But it's not a noisy kid place so make sure your little ones behave. Happy hour is outstanding when you leave the kids at home

happy hour on weekends!
Food is superior, especially the scallop sashimi and fresh sweet shrimp. Not cheap, but very very good.

Kiwami will not disappoint
Kiwami will not disappoint you. Food and service are commensurate with a restaurant owned by Chef Katsuya. Normally go to Katsu-ya in Encino, but wanted to change it up a bit. They have some of the items that made Katsu-ya popular like spicy tuna crispy rice, but have many different items on their menu like the albacore crab tempura roll. Make sure to try the house made soy sauce. Went there for lunch on my birthday and they wouldn't let me leave without having dessert so I ordered the lychee sorbet. The presentation and flavor were both top notch.

Little Tokyo comes to the valley
3rd time in, each as satisfying as the last. A gem (pearl) of a spot on the busy Ventura restaurant row which now starts in San Diego and ends in downtown Ventura it seems. There are more restaurants in LA county now we vie for first with 10 Eastern states. Kiwami is fusion/Japanese with a good base for such restaurants (fresh fish). We had several(9) small plates corresponding to a Japanese tapas.Their Toro was not as fat as I would have liked, but ok. Japanese poki and a tart tasting (the French or Spanish would call it cAnd the Tahitians poisson cru. Here we just settle for Ceviche - very tasty. We were sated but thoroughly satisfied by meals end. Pricing higher end but less than you would see in many American cities. ICHIBAN!

Delicious food backed up by great service. Thank you!

delicious lunch -- grilled
delicious lunch -- grilled yellowtail and sides. Service very gracious. Noisy, as are most dining spots these days.

Kid Friendly...and yet...
Kiwami service caters to kids, and yet they only keep two high chairs and you have to reserve one in advance. Other than that, it's a great place to take kids.

Kiwami is our go-to sushi and special occasion spot in Studio City, about 3 miles from home. We always order the "Happy Tray", although lately they've run out a couple times. :( Our party of 4 had the Happy Tray for 2 (that was all they had left), and our extra rolls (baked crab, of course, spicy tuna on yellowtail) were great - fresh and clean tasting with just the right seasoning! The birthday dessert they brought for our daughter was beautiful with "Happy Birthday" written in chocolate on the plate! Perfection!

As always, the food at Kiwami was spectacular. The only downside to this place is that their menu doesn't describe the rolls. You can, of course, ask the server, but there are a number of daily specials and a bunch of rolls on the menu so asking about each and every roll might get lengthy. All in all, this place has the best sushi in LA.

Great and innovative sushi spot
We LOVE Kiwami! Although it can be a bit pricey, even in the sushi category, the food is excellent every time. Usually the service is spot on. However, we had a server last night who seemed overwhelmed and did not refill my tea, bring us a menu or check on us with out a great effort on our part. Hopefully he will catch on before he is replaced.

We had, as we always do, a lovely experience. We love happy/tapas hour, as it can definitely be pricey, but, the food an service are wonderful.

Excellent Sushi...Highly recommended local sushi spot.

This is the place for raw fish.......and other comestibles right here on the Ventura trail. Just another in the long list of varied restaurants. Items ranging from deep fried spinach (try it you WILL like it.) to lamb chops, or duck. Many varieties of fresh seafood , sashimi, sushi, noodles and a host of daily specials, Check out the happy hour prices from 5:30 to 6:30 on drinks and food. Pleasant service in what is usually a humming atmosphere - best to make reservations. Good service, friendly staff, pricing a little high. Recommend you give them a try if you are in the mood for some good raw fish and a nice meal on Ventura Blvd .

very friendly staff and great food
My group of four gals dined here on a recent trip to LA. We had read that a celebrity enjoys dining here, and knowing his good taste thought that this would be a great place. Indeed, we enjoyed everything about it, including the menu board that shows up at your table to present the day's sushi. I ordered from the menu, sharing Raku Mori ("happy tray") with one of my friends. It was excellent, with many of the items arriving already seasoned, demonstrating the chef's skill. Given this experience , next time I will get the chef's omakase - the house specialty. arigato!

best uni EVER
My party of 2 manages to always spend more than $50 on the happy hour menu, but it NEVER fails to please. I have yet to find better scallop anywhere. Scallop, uni, and fresh live sweet shrimp are all AMAZING.

BEST SUSHI RESTAURANT IN L.A.
Great for dining at tables. Newer with great professional service. Best quality sushi and cooked dishes.
Great Lobster Tempura. Been there more than 20 times and food was always outstanding. Waiters are all professional and knowledgeable of menue

I love this place!
As always Kiwami is fantastic. Always delivers with consistently great food time and time again. I took a friend of mine who'd never been there and actually doesn't eat the raw stuff(wtf?!) and she just LOVED it.

Lunch is the Time to Enjoy Kiwame
I took a friend to Kiwame for lunch for her birthday. Many items are the same as Katsu-ya but there are lots of additional, delicious sounding entrees. We had bento boxes which had a great variety of sushi and cooked food and was more than we could eat. The ahi melts in your mouth! We had a lemon soju drink that was very refreshing but pricey. The price for lunch items is quite reasonable and a good way to check out the restaurant and not spend a fortune.

I thought Katsuya was incredible until I went here! Outstanding and so delicious. Every bite.

Luv this place
I go to here often because of the quality of its products and the great service. It helps that I live close to Kiwami but its my go to place in the valley .
8/8/2013 12:00:00 AM
My boyfriend and I wanted to try a great sushi place in the Valley and a friend recommended Kiwame. I'm so glad he did! We sat on the patio which is enclosed with vines (which is nice because it shields the view of a parking lot) at dusk and it was really nice. They have misters on the patio so it was the perfect temperature. The service was excellent. They were incredibly attentive and helpful. The food was absolutely outstanding. We had the special for 2 (I forget what it was called!) and it was presented beautifully and everything tasted amazing and fresh. I'd highly recommend this place and I will be returning!

KIWAMI IS A KEEPER
Master Chef Katsuya Uechi, creator of the Katsuya chain seems to keep this restaurant as his personal workshop and all kinds of interesting items show up as specials. I first discovered Santa Barbara Uni at Kiwami. All other Uni is a pretender not to mention usually awful. The bento box is a nice way to sample the menu, but Chef Katsuya's Short Ribs and his far ranging assortment of sushi and sashimi - I recently had a White Fish with Granny Smith Apples that was shockingly good - are what draw me back. Not all dishes work - this is his workshop - but when they do: WOW!
8/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
as you would expect from a Katsu-ya property...excellent food, efficient service. Expensive, but good sushi IS expensive. Rather bland design inside, but quality experience.
8/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
Kiwami has outstanding fresh sushi with daily fresh selection specials. They also have great happy hour selections and pricing. If you like sushi, I would highly recommend though service is a bit spotty.
9/5/2013 12:00:00 AM
Very small portions that cost!
really tasty food; but the hand rolls are TINY for example; and are expensive. It is definitely a treat, but I wouldn't go there hungry! It cost us $85 to eat for three, with no alcohol ... but it was a lovely treat, and our waitress was lovely.

Just one of the best
Just one of the best sushi restaurants in town, hands down.

Love this place and often go for lunch and dinner. Their happy hour menu is a must!

Kiwami shines in a row of sushi
Outstanding dining sushi experience. It is in the middle of a row of sushi restaurants and shines as a bright star. Decor is comfortable but lovely. Service is excellent. Selection is perfect.

This is a great place for lunch! I've enjoyed dinner here many times as well and it's always a great experience. The sushi is great and the service is great. The best part was that I convinced my friend to try the eel special. She's never tried eel and now she's hooked. Thanks!

Dined at the small sushi bar
Dined at the small sushi bar at Kiwami with chef Jeff, who was personable and inspired. Excellent quality sushi, very fresh and artfully presented, not inexpensive, however. Overall, a lovely dinner.

A world class "neighborhood gem"
Consistently inventive, nice atmosphere, very good service: A sushi standout in a neighborhood known for it. Particularly like the spicy tuna on crispy rice, baked crab roll, excellent sashimi, and if the albacore belly on a bed of lightly fried spinach is on the "Specials" menu—say YES! Kiwami never disappoints...

A Gem of a Restaurant
Consistently excellent food, excellent service. Love the happy hour menu. Very reasonable.
10/30/2013 12:00:00 AM
happy hour meal
The happy hour menu is the same, but the servings are getting a little smaller. The sashimi salad used to have big slices of scallop, but now you get a couple slivers. The quality is still top notch excellent, so smaller servings is still better than lower quality. Still an excellent place for a treat of the best sushi you will find anywhere. I recommend the hand roll trio and sashimi salad from the happy hour menu.

Our experience at Kiwami, was, as always, wonderful. The staff are Endlessly polite, responsive ,& helpful. The food was delicious, and the ambience is lovely. It is one of our favorite places
11/13/2013 4:00:00 PM
Really excellent sushi, great sushi bar staff. We go often, sit at the sushi bar, order a couple of favorites, then ask our chef to choose for us. He always chooses well, we try things we would not normally order, and have never been disappointed. Most of their sushi is already seasoned, and he lets us know "no soy sauce" when he hands us the order. We just love going here, couldn't recommend higher.
