John and Sons Oyster house
John and Sons Oyster house was nice. I love these little hideaways (and it is - nestled between construction and a more vibrant sign for a restaurant across the street).
We started with:
- Raw oysters, I prefer the pacific variety - small, less fishy and all awesome. They were wonderful. I especially liked their pear, shallot sauce (comes on the dish of hot sauces that go with your oysters)
- Lobster poutine, worth every dollar in the $23 that it costs. Fries were crunchy, lobster wasn't chewy.
- Crab cake, fantastic taste but it's tiny... Like blink and you miss it.
- Calamari, pass. Chewy and not a great hot sauce
- Indian Candy, be warned, not regular smoked salmon
- Baked rockerfella oysters, nothing to write home about

Stuck away in the financial district of Toronto it was a surprise to find it buzzing on a Monday night.
It has exactly the right atmosphere for an oyster bar. The staff are friendly and knowledgable about their product oysters.
It is a well planned menu and well executed.
We will be back

Solid Bay Street Seafooder
Tucked away on Temperance, just west of Bay, this small, vibrant seafooder is a great spot for lunch. Good variety of mainly seafood fare, well prepared with fresh ingredients. Efficient, friendly service. Really fills a void in the downtown core seafood restaurant options.

Oysters are fresh
The oysters are delicious and fresh at John and Sons. The fries are excellent. The only trouble is that their delicious Lobster Roll is now only available on the lunch menu.

Went there for lunch last
Went there for lunch last week. There were 4 of us. 3 ordered Fish and Chips, 1 orders Moules and Frites. The Fish and Chips were great. Light crunchy batter, and perfectly cooked, juicy fish. Very large portions. Great frites. One of the people at the table is from England and gave the fish top marks but in his words, "These aren't 'chips' but they are very good. Chips are bigger and chunkier. The Moules and frites were equally good. Service was prompt and friendly, without being in your face.
It's quite noisy at lunch but it's a great little, hidden spot. Would like to go back for after work cocktails and oysters (their specialty).
Price was not bad. About $160 for 4 people inclusive of tax, tip, and a couple of pints of beer each.

I eat our for lunch a lot with clients and am always treated to great service and a cool/casual environment at John's. Food is always good - fresh oysters, great selection and good options for non-seafood eaters.

Ordered some of the cooked oyster as well as some mains (lobster poutine, tuna) the cooked oyster sliders were great. The main dishes were alright not too great but had good taste. Somehow missed out on uncooked oyster will definitley come back for another try and their cooked oyster was amazing.

Food was perfection!
My first time dining at the downtown J&S location - already love the midtown spot. I had the Ling Cod special and we shared some oysters - everything was cooked to perfection, timing was well executed, and the venue is noisy enough to be energetic without feeling like we had to yell.
The only reason for a 4* instead of 5* in the service category was it would have been nice to see even a hint of a smile from our waitress. She didn't seem to want to be there, and I didn't really feel welcome. I think I came in with expectations given my great experience at the other location being so centered on the friendly, non-pretentious staff. That said - she was efficient and non-intrusive which I especially appreciate for a business lunch.

Decent spot but never busy
This place is on a little travelled sidestreet in downtown Toronto and maybe people just don't know it is there but I have been there twice for lunch and not full either time.
The seafood is competent and not way out of whack.

Excellent food, too much noise
This is my second time to the downtown location of John & Sons. The food, as before, is top-notch. The oysters were delicious, and the other seefood dishes were varied and tasty.
My only problem with the experience (I don't even mid the price tag, which is not for the faint of heart) is that the noise level is far too high. Now, I will make the disclaimer that the staff did what they could to accommodate. When I asked for the music volume to be reduced, they obliged, and this helped. However, there were a few groups of rowdy folk in the place that were literally yelling most of the time. Now, since this is not the fault of the establishment, I still rate it highly. Just keep this note in mind when you're preparing mentally.

One of the best places to go for Oysters in Toronto - only surpassed by their other location in Midtown Toronto

I love the atmosphere and the vibe as well as the perfectly prepared food! I've been going here for years and have taken friends, business associates and even alone and it always works. It has a very lively bar to eat at even as a single. They always know their wine list and I should go more often!

Good food, consistently prepared and presented, with attentive staff. A real bistro in the heart of downtown (others are just faking it!).
