My kids felt very strongly
My kids felt very strongly this was the best food we had in New Orleans. They were surprisingly adventurous, and loved the food at the atmosphere. Very grateful we were there on a Monday, and that a neighbor recommended the red beans and rice special! I was so glad I had made reservations -- definitely not the typical museum fare!

What a wonderful restaurant
What a wonderful restaurant at a must visit museum. So unlike any other restaurant you would find at a museum
Will buy the cookbook hoping to get some of the recipes.

This is a John Besh gem with affordable pricing, not a long line and his signature incredible food. At peak dining times you would want a reservation though because when the movie Not All Boundries lets out around lunch time the crowd instinctively goes here for lunch. At our table we ordered the hot dog, monte christo and mini burgers. They were all amazing. Don't worry about upgrading from chips to fries because the chips are thin, crispy and have just the right amount of salt. The hot dog is not from Oscar Meyer...this hot dog is from another planet...definitely a must try!

This gem of a restaurant had a surprisingly varied menu, the food was all delicious and well-presented. The openness of the restaurant might turn some people off, but we thought it had quite a modern feel. The staff was quite pleasant and eager to please. Easy to get a reservation during the week to celebrate a special occasion and we noted plenty of space for large parties.

Happy Hour Heaven
Great happy hour with a great "in-between menu"! My family of four (foodies all) on vacation in NOLA spent a wonderful afternoon at the WW II museum and had a great early dinner at American Sector. The meat pies (only 75 cents during happy hour) were so delicious that we would eat them every day if we could. The smoked lamb ribs were tender with a tasty glaze. The cheeseburger sliders were average (too thick and not enough flavor) but they sat on incredible buns. The BBQ pork sliders were good and sat on the same great buns. The fries were so good that we quickly doubled our order. Fried chicken gizzards...be brave...they are sublime! Our server (Justin S) was good to us and good to our special needs son. Oh, and the cupcakes!!!!

Whether you're visiting the museum or not, The American Sector bar and restaurant is perfect for time-less cocktails and modern twists by John Besh on classic dishes from the WWII era.

Celebrating our daughters
Celebrating our daughters 21st birthday, all she wanted was dinner at the World War 2 museum. Started in the bar, fun cocktails moderately priced. The Pink Squirrel was a big hit. We had a later reservation but were able to be seated outdoors earlier. Outdoor patio is ok, plastic tables & chairs, some with cracks, but clean. Dinners were all great, not gourmet dining, this is one of John Besh's side line kitchens. We met one of the managers who was very talkative, spoke highly of the chef and his other establishments, local goings on in NOLA, and Jazzfest (which we were there for). It made for a great and memorable night. Very casual, and great for a bite after touring the museum.

Must Try Again
What an awesome find in the middle of New Orleans! I love the look and feel of the restaurant. The service was excellent and the food is great. I would love to come back and experience what this place has to offer, museum tour and dining!

Tulane graduation party
We had a post graduation party at the American Sector Cafe and found it the perfect venue for our large party of 20. The staff was friendly and flexible and accommodated our needs in terms of time constraints and quick service easily. The food was delicious, the service superb and the price was very reasonable. We would definitely return to the cafe and dine again when we are in New Orleans.

Had reservations for Sunday night. Restaurant was not busy. Surprised us. It has classic food and classic cocktails frome the 40's and 50's. Would be great for groups!

We went to the American sector for 4th of July and it was a perfect place. There was a concert at the WW2 museum, and earlier newly minted citizens took their first oath of allegiance to the USA!

Family and friends love Besh!
A native NOLA girl and John Besh fan I was so excited to have the chance to eat at American Sector with my husband and stepson on our recent trip down from Philly. Our waiter was friendly and open, but I must admit seemed to be lacking in some service skills and support. Our drinks came out in three rather long intervals and some of our app plates remained on the table until dessert.again he was entirely friendly and engaging but seemed unsure of some menu information.
All in all our party of 7enjoyed our meal and shared bites agreeing the shrimp creole and drum fish were too salty although cooked perfectly.
The stars of our meal were the chicken gizzards, duck wings, crab dip and Abita P 40.
We will return for those!

A treat inside the WWII Museum
Diverse menu, great drinks and food. Service was great, attentive but not intrusive and responsive to special request.

Great atmosphere and creative menu
This is a pretty special spot, connected to the WWII museum. But the menu just "tried a little too hard" to be clever. While the food was fresh, creative and interesting it just wasn't that delicious. Twists are great when they make a classic better but twists just for the sake of them are a bit pretentious. With that said, it was a nice meal, tasted good and we left full. The real deal is to get there during happy hour and order off if the "between" menu. Their sister location, the soda shop we actually enjoyed more!

We were in a hurry to get to a play at the CAC. The server recommended which dishes to order, all of which were delicious and fast. We had a great meal and had plenty of time to get good seats.

Our best lunch in New Orleans
The American Sector was one of 3 Besh restaurants we ate at in NO. The food was amazing. We tried the duck wings and lamb ribs to start. I had the Frenchie burger and my husband had the oyster po' boy, both which came with the house homemade potato chips. Everything was perfectly cooked and seasoned. We were happily stuffed. That it was also in the WW II museum made it even better, as we walked off our fullness in the museum. A great place with a fun atmosphere.

I would highly recommend this
I would highly recommend this restaurant, the service, and food were awesome. My wife and will definitely be back. My oldest son is an inspiring chef and he also wants to come to the American Sector.

Love besh food
Only glitch was new waiter who needed more training. Polite. Brought bill right after he brought food, then tried to pick it up when I had just started to eat. My meal was outstanding and worth the cab fare to get there.

Good experience at WWII museum
Fitting and fun restaurant atmosphere for the WWII museum. Arrived at 1:45 for lunch - service at that hour was a little slow and the server got my order wrong. But the food was still wonderful. We will go back.

Tasty food, excellent service
We were very happy with our food. And after a minor mistake, the server more than made up for it by immediately comping my entree.

We met 14 of our family before touring the museum. The American Sector provided us with a group of tables to seat our crowd,, The diversity of menu items kept all ages happy so the afternoon was a success.

This restaurant is at the WWII museum. Some staff are dressed in period wardrobe. The food is delicious, interesting, and not too much for a lunch. They also made a special dish off the menu for dietary need. Looking forward to return visit.

Fun for Team Dinners
We had a team dinner at this location when we were attending a show at the Morial Convention Center. It was a fantastic venue and we were seated in a separate area from the main dining area - so that helped provide a semi-private feel for our dinner. The menu is simple and comfort food based, but dressed up in an upscale manner. The bar provided signature and standard drinks. The service was impeccable and quick considering our group size (20+). The ambiance was great with the WWII Museum in the background and old vintage Hollywood and WWII images surrounding our dining area. Would highly recommend this if you have a group dinner need that you want to have in a fun environment.

Comfort food deconstructed a bit
Placed on the grounds of the WWII museum, the menu looks like a 50's diner menu. It has some burgers and fries and some fancier dishes. The traditional fair is spun upscale pretty creatively. Ambience is pretty nice, but with a starting premise of a WWII canteen there is just so far you can go. The music was of the era which I liked. The place wasn't busy and the service seemed slow. Food was excellent, but could have been hotter when it got to the table. The meatloaf was the best I've ever tasted. Worth a visit just for this.

Good spot for lunch
Good spot for lunch while viewing the extensive museum. Wonderful to find a nice and fairly quiet sit down restaurant to take a break while visiting the museum.
