Entrees were great. Service was good. Clam appetizer was gritty and tough.

Pretty good food, a little pricey
The Fishery smelled of fresh seafood from the outset, and it didn't disappoint. The dishes were prepared with originality and care. The fish was fresh and perfectly cooked. The prices were a little high for the ambiance and the dishes. The wine list, while small, was decent enough. The service was attentive and excellent.

Overall VERY good food and beers! The place is a bit loud, but it is ok.

Whether you find a seat at the bar or have scored a table you will find that staff is friendly and the food is great!! The ceviche and the steamed mussels are my favorite starters and you can't go wrong with any of the main courses.
5/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
We have eaten at The Fishery many times. My favorite is still the fish tacos--it is also a good value. The prices on other main dishes seems high for a neighborhood restaurant. The service was great!

They know how to cook fish just the right way! Always a reliable and delicious meal. The Fishery Fish Soup is my favorite soup in San Diego. If the noise level could be diminished just a tad, this would be a 5 Star restaurant. One thing does bother me, I do not like cilantro and the cole slaw is overrun with it. Service was great!

A Delightful Experience
The Tuesday night 4-course dinner was a surpise hit. Will definitely go back and try the other appetizers and entrees.

FRESH and a FAVORITE
wonderful fresh fish and one of our favorite local eateries.

Great Food and Environment
Took the family here on a recent vacation to San Diego. The food was outstanding and the environment was great. Felt like a small neighborhood hot spot with great wine/beer and food. You can even buy fish right there to take home and prepare yourself. Will definitely eat here again on next trip to San Diego.

We love The Fishery!
This is one of our favorite restaurants in San Diego. Perhaps our most favorite.... The service is friendly, but not over-bearing. The food is consistently delicious. The ambience is fun and celebratory, noisy but not too loud. It's a great place to take anyone of any age. We love their fresh fish market, as well.

Friends' Recommendation Paid Off!
My wife and I went thee for the very first time on our 27th anniversary and it surpassed our expectations. The Fishery had been recommended by a friend as one of the best spots on the La Jolla, Pacific Beach side of San Diego and they were right!

Tuesday Tasting Menu is superb.
The weekly Tuesday Tasting menu is consistently one of the best meals in San Diego, and the price is extraordinarily great value. The regular menu items are also fresh and reliably delicious. This is a great restaurant.

innovative and dependable
I have been going to the fishery for years and have never been disappointed. This is the only restaurant that I know of that knows how to cook fish (any kind and any way) perfectly. Great wine selection too.

Best of the best
We come to San Diego once a year and this is our favorite restaurant. It just never disappoints and is consistently superb, both in terms of service and quality of the food. Best crab cakes ever, And the praline banana ice cream? OH MY GOD?!!!!!!!

The Fishery Dinner
The one dish my husband and I always have when we visit The Fishery are the Clams Bordelaise, they are always nice sized clams and the broth is garlicky and a tad bit spicy. This dish is served with toasted /grilled bread perfect for sopping up the broth. Our entrees were also perfect I had the Halibut and my husband had the linguine Clams, with white sauce. The pasta was cooked al dente and once again the clams were great the Halibut was macadamia crusted served with creamy whipped potatoes. The fish was cooked perfectly ,moist and a little crunch from the nuts.Blueberry cobbler to finish the meal was a perfect finishing touch.

Pacific Beach Secret...
The Fishery is inconspicuously located on Cass Street away from the craziness of Garnet, but once you find it and if you like seafood, this restaurant will be a place you will return to again and again. It is casual, but on the nicer side and while IMO it might be the priciest restaurant in Pacific Beach it is also the classiest and has the best sea food menu in Pacific Beach where every dish is amazing. While The Fishery does offer price friendly options that also taste great you would be doing yourself a disservice by not trying other menu items not available anywhere else in San Diego.
8/9/2013 12:00:00 AM
We were introduced to The Fishery by out of town friends. While live only a few blocks away, we tend to avoid fish- centric places and prefer meat and chicken dishes. But mch to our surprise and delight we found The Fishery to offer many excellent and very fresh options. Their clam chowder is superb. The Cod and Chips are excellent as are the scallops and the occasional Ahi. The service is attentive and swift and they always honor our Open Table bookings. Highly recommended!!!

We kept waiting for the "but", you know…it was good, but…
It never came!
Our experience was excellent from the minute we walked in the door. We ordered the mussels that had a wonderful depth of flavor to the sauce. Then the heirloom tomato salad which tasted like it was just walked in from the garden, delicious. We had the blackened sea bass for an entree. Almost passed it up because we get sea bass frequently, James our server said it was a standout dish, he was spot on. Blacked DID NOT mean charred beyond recognition, this was seasoned well with a crispy edge and a tender perfectly cooked center. Dessert was warm chocolate cake and espresso which made for one fantastic meal.
Local, fresh food, we loved it and WILL return!

Great neighborhood gem!
HIgh-quality fresh fish, tasty nice menu items, casual and vibrant ambiance. Love that I can walk there!

Fresh fish in a casual atmosphere
The restaurant sells fresh fish at the counter, quite close to the diners. Space at this storefront eatery is scare. The fish is worth the drive. The Caesar salad comes as lettuce coated with dressing and covered with cheese. The hot chocolate cake is worth every calorie. Servers and their helpers dart around the room. The pace of service is quite fast.

Everything was delicious!
Our first time to PB and this was recommended to us. Great recommendation. We would definitely come back.

This restaurant was just right! Highlight of our restaurant experiences on this vacation in mission Beach. The service was great, the ambiance was versatile. Good for a romantic dinner for two or larger group! The fish is on display at a small market-like counter in the middle of the restaurant. It is for purchase by the pound if desired but we found it most helpful in selecting our dinner entree.
The Sea bass was excellent. The best I've ever had. Kind of crispy on the outside, moist freshness inside this large filet served on a bed of sweet corn/avacado relish.
The fish tacos were fresh but a little too spicy (cajun)for this traditional fish taco lover. I definitelyrecommend the Fishery and will be back next time we are in town.

Have been to The Fishery many times and have never been disappointed. Especially love the soups. It's a great place for both lunch and dinner.
8/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
If you want a good meal this is a good place. A bit on the high side for noise for me but every table was taken. The food was good. In fact I can't say a bad thing about it. Very fresh fish. Server really wanted to please and was very attentive.

A Fish Market and Fine Restaurant
We were seated promptly and the staff was very solicitous of one of our party who is disabled. Service was efficient and prompt and when one of us complained of a cool slice of fish, it was immediately remedied. The scallops with heirloom tomatoes was beautifully presented and delicious as was the grouper on couscous salad. The hit of the evening was the yellowtail in barbecue sauce , an unusual and fabulous combination. The warm chocolate cake dessert was perfect.
8/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
Always book a table in the more quiet area, since it is hard to hear a conversation in some parts of the restaurant !
9/5/2013 12:00:00 AM
Went to The Fishery for the first time, the food was excellent, would go back again just not for an anniversary celebration. The ambiance was fun, friendly setting just not very romantic. The service was great, restaurant was clean but parking could be kind of tricky.
9/10/2013 12:00:00 AM
Always a swell exeperience
We've been here 6 or 7 times, always with an Open Table reservation, and they always honor the times and seat us virtually on time. Week nights are not as crowded as week ends, but there's almost never any empty table until well after 9PM. The chowder is so good, we share to keep from filling up before the entrées arrive. They have a great selection of white wines to go with fish choices, and their fishes are always very fresh and usually local. The service is seriously attentive and it's all very well done.

Great neighborhood find!!!!
I brought my husband there for his b'day on Sept.25th 2013 and he was in heaven. he loved everything about the restaurant, it was the perfect way he wanted to celebrate his b'day, with his beautiful wife and great atmosphere for the best seafood. We will be returning and bringing and telling more people about it.
We give it 10 stars if the ratings go that high.

The food was excellent and the service wonderful. It was my husband birthday and the ambiance was a bit too vibrant for a romantic dinner however the staff made sure that we were happy.

Amazing Fish Tacos
Every time I've been to The Fishery, it's been reliably fresh and good. However, the last two times I was there, I got their swordfish tacos, and I'm a bit addicted to them. They are grilled, flavorful and delicious.......and also a great value!
10/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
Fabulous food every time we
Fabulous food every time we visit which is often. Fresh, delicious and presentation is wonderful. Nice ambience and great service.

Swordfish to die for.
You can even take people who "don't like fish." Great menu, a little pricey, but all in all a very enjoyable dining experience. They always have local fresh catches and a very large menu but its fish and only fish. My son doesn't like fish but he loved the swordfish. The waiter mentioned that the swordfish tastes just like steak. Enjoy!

Best fish in San Diego!!
I have not been here in a while and only go once or twice a year. I have NEVER had a bad meal or experience here. Took friends from out of town--everybody loved it! Shared clams and an Andy roll for starters--both great. The seabass was exclellent. I had the grilled yellow tail with pomegranite BBQ sauce---WOW! My fish came with an excellent arugula salad sprinked with pome seeds and tiny potatoes in a O&V dressing that was perfect! Great wines and beers too. Service was fast and friendly. Fun!

Special night, special dinner
Celebrating a special date and had one of the best fish dinners ever. We saw a dish at another table and were told it was not on the menu but had been specially prepared for that guest. When we asked if the chef would recreate it for us, he did. Delicious!

Worth a trip every time!
Never been disappointed. Been going here for over a decade every time I'm in town (1-2x per year). Great seafood. Really liked the prix fixe menu paired with wine - a great deal too.

Worth the Trip
Feels like a neighborhood restaurant. Not overcrowded but reservations on a Fri or Sat good idea. Street parking, but had no trouble finding a close spot. Food was amazing. We had the halibut and sea bass. Both fish dishes were beautifully presented, very fresh and absolutely delicious. Some of the best fish I have eaten anywhere. If you are in the San Diego area where there are lots of seafood restaurants, I don't think you will find a place better than The Fishery.
11/21/2013 4:00:00 PM
Wonderful fresh fish
The Fishery can be counted on to serve well-prepared fresh fish at moderate prices. The fish chowder is delicious and the sides are also very good. When the restaurant is busy the noise level is a bit high, but we dined at 6:00 p.m. on a Saturday, which was early enough to avoid a full house.
11/22/2013 4:00:00 PM
Beautiful Seafood place
We were looking for a seafood place in the SD area and we were not disappointed. The Seabass was expertly cooked with a great presentation. My wife had the fish tacos and she said they were over garnished with very little fish. Mussels were great although we have had better.
11/28/2013 4:00:00 PM
PB at its best
Ever since we moved to La Jolla last summer, we've been coming to the Fishery 3-4 times a month and the food as well as the service is amazing, each and every time. From the welcoming hostesses to the attentive servers and bus boys, lunch or dinner at the Fishery is a more than satisfying experience. The presentation is truly beautiful and showcases the dishes well. The quality of the fish is first rate, always fresh, and masterfully prepared. The noise level is pretty high even when the restaurant isn't fully booked however that seems to be the case at many other newer restaurants in San Diego and it's just something we have to deal with if we want to enjoy great food. Overall though, we absolutely love the Fishery!!
