This place is now one of our favorite places to eat, and that says a lot in NYC. The bacon wrapped dates are only the beginning of a journey of great food from a diverse menu. Add a glass of wine of a festive drink and you're in business. Service is always excellent where the servers know their stuff, just ask their recommendations and prepare for a delicious meal!

This restaurant has really authentic Spanish tapas, and the interior is gorgeous! Perfect spot to grab happy hour drinks and tapas with friends, or a fun date place. The bar was very energetic and the service couldn't be more friendly. I'd definitely recommend Sala One Nine.

best tapas in NYC?
Very noisy is the only drawback. I think this may be the best tapas in NYC. Really amazing choices including some regular specials and delicious. Sooo many options tough to choose. We had 7 and one was a bit too salty but theo others were oustanding.

Sala, as always, had mouthwateringly good food. Creative tapas that excited everyone at the table! I recommend the datiles and the gambas! Couldn't stop dipping our bread in the garlic sauce. Delicious sangria, and great desserts too.

I went there with my wife on Friday evening after 9. The waiters were very friendly. We ordered 3 dishes. Portions are similar to tapas,
and everything was very well executed. Dishes were simple but very tasty.

Foor and dining experience
Foor and dining experience was great but our waiter forgot to put in the order for paella after our appetizers and we had to wait 30 minutes.

Sala -- Best Tapas in Town!
I stumbled upon Sala One Nine by accident after a long day of shopping in the Union Square area. This place requires reservations but also has a front bar only area which was quite nice. The food is always great there, consistent -- my new favorite are the scallops with the pistachio vinagrette! delicious!! I always have the bacon wrapped dates and the goat cheese plates and try additional plates as well. I haven't had the chance to explore the wine list/drink menu that deeply but, I still definitely recommend this place to all of my friends especially the foodies!

all around excellent
The food is good, the service is good, and the atmosphere, while a little noisy, is good. The Paella was close to perfect while the Serrano Ham was perfect. Sala is highly recommened for all occassions.

We were only in NYC for the weekend and tried a few places. This was by far the best and ranks in my top 5 restaurant experiences. The datiles are "holy smokes awesome! The paella was one of the best I've had. Can't say enough! Great place and we'll be back when we're in NYC.

Cannot wait to return!!

Loved the bacon wrapped dates, wish there had been more of them in the tapas. The sangria was pretty good too.

My favorite tapas joint in NYC
I've been to so many tapas places in NYC, including Boquieria which is like two doors down from here. Sala One Nine is my favorite one out of all of them, namely because the food is so freaking good. Their shrimp in hot oil and garlic with peppers will have you dreaming about it for months. Their verde salad is simple but comes with a delicious almond vinaigrette. Even something as simple as veggie croquettes taste better here. During the week they have a lunch special where you get a full size salad/soup and full size sandwich for I believe 13 bucks. All the sandwiches are good, and it comes with the verde salad or soup. One of my faves!

Authentic Spanish Tapas
Awesome food and extremely attentive and courteous service. No complaints at all. Bacon wrapped dates are sinfully delicious.

Even good for a casual date
I've always enjoyed this place; the wines are nice and a lot of the staff is from Spain, so feels authentic. It's pretty loud, as there are often large groups gathering, but not so loud that you can't hold down a conversation. The lively atmosphere lends itself to chatting, which helped break the ice on a date with someone I'd only recently met. The crowd is 20-40ish, with a blend of stylish, business and artsy.
Food is tasty though not super gourmet. It's there to help you enjoy the wine/beer. That said, the anchovies and shrimp were really fresh and good.
I like that they accept reservations for small parties.
All-in-all: a fun go-to place when you want relaxed, a pretty place well above a standard pub.

Great tapas and sangria
The food and sangria at Sala One Nine was fantastic. Though the ambiance was so energetic that it was difficult to hear the person sitting next to me.

The food has always been excellent. I dined this time with relatives from out of town for lunch. They thought it was phenomenal and I was dining with a vegetarian and a person who loves meat, both thoroughly enjoyed the meal. The service was wonderful and they allowed us to take our time and enjoy each other's company.

Everything great, but calamari - too fishy, but maybe I'm not used to it prepared that way.

large brunch group
I went with a group of 7 ladies on a Saturday afternoon. We were looking for a place that could take a large group for brunch. We had a 1:30 reservation but they were able to take us right away when we got there at 1. We shared a bunch of tapas, a salad and a sandwich. They even made their old grilled calamari recipe when asked, even though it isn't on the menu anymore. The food was good and the sangria wasn’t too sweet. I definitely recommend this place if you’re in the neighborhood.

Visiting NYC and walking from Times Square to the Financial District, used OT to find a place for a late lunch. Sala One Nine was the closest to where I was. Looked at the menu and it offered quite a number of options for lunch. I decided on the lunch special which was a half sandwich w/mixed green salad and soup. (Oh yeah, had a glass of wine too.) The food was very good and the portion size was exactly what I was looking for - not too big and not too small.
If I'm ever back in that area, I will definitely visit Sala One Nine again. Thank you for the great food and service.

Great Casual Eats
Great all around. Definitely best for a small group given the focus on small plates.

Sala hit the mark
Great tapas menu. Tried four plates and all were cooked perfectly, very savory and served timely at a comfortable rolling pace through the evening. Never felt rushed and the sangria was very good too. Not overly sweet. Recommended for a fun date. Tables are close and it can get a little loud. But overall good vibe. I would definitely go back.

Great neighborhood find
This was our first time dining at this restaurant, although our daughter had been there several times. We had a great time from the food, wine, service and ambience. We will definitely return!!

happy hour menu not quite worth it
we normally come here for tapas/dinner which is always great. we tried the happy hour this time and saw some of our fave dishes on the happy hour menu - each is about 2/3 the price but only 1/2 the portion! kind of a rip-off. the $4 sangria glasses are worth it tho. they also don't give you nearly enough bread for the table and you have to keep asking for more!

Great tapas, great atmosphere...
Only complaint after showing much excitement that they had white sangria and requesting it....The waiter brought me red. In his defense the red was good too.

I went on Open table looking for Spanish tapas. The restaurant has great food and service.

the tables were very close
the tables were very close together. Tough for a date night. Else, it's probably good for any other night. Food is pretty great. The wine selection by the glass needs work. Service is pretty good
