Excellent! As Always
Consistently good food, drink and service! Who could ask for more. This is one of my go-to restaurants in Fort Point and all of Boston.

Home made, hand made pasta that surpasses that from *whispers* the North End!!

The Best Casual Fine DIning
I went here with my bride the evening after our wedding, and they showered us with overwhelming kindness. It was a truly remarkable dinner.
Even putting aside such special occasions, Sportello always has fantastic service and great food. Of all the restaurants I've seen, they're certainly the best example of casual fine dining. Lots of counter seats in front of the open kitchen. The trout was perfectly prepared, the duck had a superb flavor. Excellent pasta, great pastries and coffee.
They're directly above Drink, a remarkable cocktail bar, and if you ask they will try to ensure there's a space for you there after your meal. They make for a fantastic date night anytime you're looking for a gourmet meal in a more relaxed atmosphere.

Always a great spot for dinner
Sportello like many of BL's establisments never disappoints. Great service, great food and always a great wine selection. Will come back many times.

If only they had nut-free desserts
On this occasion, I was dining with my two sons (5 and 3) and our au pair. All of our dishes were well executed. My 5 year old particularly enjoyed the roasted potatoes. Unfortunately, the desserts with nuts are not kept fully separate from those containing nuts, which was a particular challenge given that the pastry counter is in full view and one of my sons has nut allergies. accomodating

My husband and I had a great time at Sportello! The food is fabulous and the atmosphere is casual and fun. The rabbit ragu was a standout, one we'll be dreaming about for a while! The bar downstairs 'Drink' is super cool, love the decor, the bartenders and the actual drinks - all amazing. We only had one night in Boston and we're glad we spent it at Sportello.
8/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
My friend and I went to eat there one of the two nights we were in Boston and the food really was outstanding. We had the Table d'hôte which changes often so you can go back and try something new. The waiter forgot my friends wine. The food and the ambiance were great.

Noisy with a View of the Chefs
This kind of dining was a little new to me but I thoroughly enjoyed sitting close to my dining neighbors and the menu with a slight twist on typical Italian fare. The selection of appetizers and salads were very inviting and the main course is brought over my the chef fresh from the kitchen. I would definitely go back to taste some more of their dishes.

We really loved the Smoked Bluefish, the flavors were balanced and well blended. Definitely a star on the menu. Overall we really enjoyed the meal and would definitely come back.

I went wth a coworker to check out the "unofficial" restaurant week menu and was extremely impressed. The food was incredible, and the service was fantastic. The only thing I would note is that even though we had reservations we had to wait a minute or two to be seated, as it was very busy when we went.
8/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
food was pretty good. The
food was pretty good. The heirloom tomato salad and pasta with shrimp and chili was out of this world. The chickpea ravioli was only mediocre. Please put back rests on the stools for some added comfort.

Although seating is a bit tight but the food quality definitely made it up. I recall my chicken breast cooked just right. I would highly recommend my friends to come for causal dinning.

Food and Service
What more could you want for a nice night out as a couple or foursome. Some may not like the diner style seating, but the food is spot on and the service rivals any white linen restaurant in town. We have never been disappointed at Sportello, unless of course we couldn't get a reservation.
8/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
You can't go wrong here....Whether it's an entree, like swordfish or snapper, or wonderful pasta, everything is delicious. The place looks like a diner, which may be off putting, but the food is nowhere near diner fare.

Friday night dinner
Chose Sportello for its casual environment. First time for us at this particular Barbara Lynch eatery. We ordered several dishes to start: Heirloom tomato salad - excellent flavor combinations, clams app - good, Gorgonzola/ fig crostini was very good, except for the one crostini that was too hard to bite through. Fingerling potatoes w/ the accompanying sour cream & salty ricotta(?) spread was excellent.
Dinner entrees: potato gnocchi were 5 star! The bolognese dish was good, but needed salt.
All in all, a very good meal. Would come back to the gnocchi alone!

After initially being taken by surprise at the counter service seating, I found the food especially good. Wait staff very knowledgable about menu.

One of the best meals I have
One of the best meals I have had in the city! Barbara Lynch is truly a culinary genius and all her establishments speak for themselves. We had the duck hash and polenta for brunch and loved it! Will be back for dinner :)

Italian outside of the North End?
Though the food is inspired by classic Italian and Italian-American cuisine, the interior of Barbara Lynch's Sportello is a major departure from the classic checkered table cloth Italian eatery. The minimalist, sleek, and airy design certainly let you focus on the food and the diner style seating bring in an element of a European cafe. Located in the Seaport district, Sportello is a quick walk from the Westin Waterfront or the Renaissance. A reasonably priced wine list which focuses on Italian wines pairs well with the rustic classics like Tagliatelle Bolognese and Strozzapreti with braised rabbit. The small room can get noisy, so this might not be the best spot if you are looking for intimate conversation.

Been here a few times, and they continue to impress me. Great food. Great service.

Fabulous food, great wine list
This is a great place for fabulous food and a great bottle of wine in a very informal setting. The salads are put together creatively of the freshest ingredients. The entrees are not complicated but well executed. The pasta dishes in particular are in portion sizes that you can actually finish and well balanced between the pasta and other ingredients. The staff are very attentive and knowledgeable. This was our first visit and we'll be back. An excellent addition to Boston foodies' list of favorites.

Very friendly, welcoming environment. Servers and chefs know their stuff, but are warm, welcoming, open to questions and give spot on recommendations and advice on food choices and wine pairings. A wonderful combination of food and staff. A Boston gem.

Fun in Beantown
Sportello was great fun. The diner- like seating sounded weird for a dinner for two. However, it works, really well. Since the timing of diners being seating next to you is staggered, you don't feel crowded. You can interact with others if you wish and check out the food choices around you as they are delivered to other diners. The pastas are outstanding and are offered as a small size or entree. Love this because we had a difficult time deciding which ones to order. The smaller option allowed us to choose a few. and share. We would be hard pressed to choose a favorite. Leave room for dessert, get up and check out the dessert case, separate from the dessert menu. The desserts, in a world- sublime.

Could eat here every night!
A great experience from the minute we walked in. Food is terrific and the service is outstanding. We had the heirloom tomato salad, agnolotti, orecchiette, swordfish, and snapper. Just superb. The service is thoughtful and caring but never overbearing. The space is different so if you have never been be sure to check out the pictures of the seating. Wouldn't want the diner style to take away from what will be a great meal.

SO good. I am glad I made a reservation the second time, it gets busy during lunch. Excellent food.
10/3/2013 12:00:00 AM
I had a friend in from out of town and we decided to try for a different experience. Loved the stools and counter experience. The food was truly amazing and the service was perfect. I plan to go again soon!

return visit to Sportello
Was here several years ago, shortly after the opening. Wanted to see if it was still as great - and it is!

Something special in Fort Point
Sportello was a delight. From the food, to the wine, to the energy. I will definitely be coming back--soon!

Great restaurant for lunch. Will definitely be back with friends. Food was amazing

We go all the time....
Everything was really good except one entree. A new(er?) pasta dish with arugula and ground sausage... Didn't hit the mark. Salty and super oily. Rabbit was great. Love this place.

Food was excellent; fresh,
Food was excellent; fresh, innovative, beautifully presented, delicious. Two appetizer portions made a very satisfying lunch. I appreciated the fact that the waiter let me taste the wine first and proposed a different wine when the first taste seemed a bit too unusual to me. We sat at a table for 2 rather than at the counter. The plastic chair and table felt a little unstable, but this was lunch, not a major dinner production and we weren't planning to hang out for hours. I like the counter service concept --more friendly to solo diners and it is a great neighborhood spot.

Sportello is the best
I eat at Sportello often and it is always excellent. The food, the staff, the atmosphere - it's all great.

I'm not crazy about the esthetic
I'm not crazy about the esthetic of the restaurant - seems like they were trying a little too hard for the diner vibe. Food was great. Wine list could have been better. We were really hoping for a nice bottle of champagne to celebrate, but they only had one on the menu which we weren't a fan of. Service was good - nothing outstanding, but nothing to complain about either. I'm not sure I would return, but I'm glad I went and tried the place.
10/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
Nice Little Spot
Sportello is a nice little place in South Boston. Good food, good service, just a little small. The food was delicious and very classic italian. I would definitely come here again.
10/30/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great find, cozy and fashionable neighbourhood restaurant. Came for lunch with a colleague and enjoyed the burrata bruschetta as appetiser and mushroom gnocchi as main. The food is fresh an delicious! Quick, unpretentious service. Wish I had tried one of their amazing looking cakes!

Lunch at Sportello
A friend and I had stopped in early on a Friday for lunch. Service was impeccable. We were undecided but talked with waitress and decided on splitting the gnocchi and bolognese. They were both delicious. Good beer and wine list.
Only downside is that is it is small so when it gets busy it also gets loud so be prepared for that.
10/31/2013 5:00:00 PM
Go with one friend
Had lunch there. Soup and pastas were all excellent. The baked goods looked yummy, but didn't have a chance to try any. The seating arrangement is fairly unique - it is almost all counter service, so great with one friend but tough with a group. Their web site says they will be reconfiguring space to more traditional tables and space for larger groups (up to 10) over Thanksgiving 2013, so this comment may quickly become passé.
11/4/2013 4:00:00 PM
Had a wonderful time there. The Lamb Ragu was amazing as was the veal cheeks!
11/5/2013 4:00:00 PM
The old school dinner counter dining was a great way to experience the fare. As we enjoyed the house cured olives and the fingerling potatoes "snacks" we were able to watch the staff prepare our meal and enjoy the view. The main courses were excellent! Our waiter was knowledgable of the menu and helped with the appropriate beer selection for each course. Dessert was terrific as well. Definitely going again on my next visit to Boston.
11/6/2013 4:00:00 PM
Excellent food and service!
We always enjoy Sportello. The food is delicious (the bolognese!!!) and the waitstaff could not be nicer or more attentive. Though we crave the bolognese, we love everything we've tried there. If it is on the menu, don't miss the cauliflower and leek salad...it is sumptuous. We would also recommend the chai custard with chocolate cake....mmmmmm. We are looking forward to the renovation and hopefully a few more tables!
11/9/2013 4:00:00 PM
Fun atmosphere, wonderful food, service great - not a place to go if you want to have in depth conversation however - place to go for meeting someone, have a dinner then go on to something else
11/12/2013 4:00:00 PM
Friendly and expert servers dish up fresh gourmet fare from the open kitchen. We've never had anything less than a wonderful meal at Sportello.

Rabbit pasta is divine
The rabbit pasta is divine! I also love the fig jam for the bread. Great wine pairings. Ethan is the best waiter and best DJ! The food was good, the environment was entertaining and casual, and the music was awesome.

Dinner for 4...
...Can be a challenge there at the curving counter, but the host managed to get us two sides of a counter corner where we could speak with each other comfortably. The server was very friendly but a bit harried...they were very busy and had sold out a few items by 8pm. But what we had was great, as was the wine we selected...the server brought us some additional appetizer items to compensate for the things that had be 86'd. The place is bright and friendly and the food is great. Cocktails downstairs at Drinks before or after is also recommended.
11/16/2013 4:00:00 PM
another solid meal at Sportello
The bolognese was prepared perfectly and the accompaniment for the bread was delicious. The glass of wine I enjoyed also was delicious. The service was friendly but a bit lacking on this visit. I had to ask for my glass of wine a second time after my meal arrived (the waiter remembered the order but whoever was in charge of pouring had not gotten it for me), and the waiter also was not clear with my friend about the choices for pasta with the bolognese. She asked if she could have something different. At first he said yes but then it turned out there weren't really any other choices.

Excellent casual dining
Fabulous food to share, friendly and charming staff and a casual, but trendy, setting: a perfect location for dinner with a friend or two...!

Great Unique Food
Sportello has the best food. unique dishes. Highly recommend the rabbit pasta and the affagato for dessert. Most seating is at a lunch counter

Sportello may well be the
Sportello may well be the best Barbara Lynch joint in town: the food quality is uncompromised, the menu is inventive, and the price-gouging has not begun yet - the cost of food is commensurate with the amount and quality. A true foodie gem.
