A Very Nice Meal Indeed
After a week working a conference, we'd already enjoyed the usual Baltmore staples. I was in the mood for French; my co-worker wanted steak. We found ML in the Mount Vernon section. An apparently popular patisserie in the front of the house made the short wait for a table a bit awkward. The Saturday evening clientele were casual, happy and relaxed; the exposed brick walls and tin ceilings added to a relatively high noise level. Food was very good: piping hot onion soup with real gruyere was just what I wanted; the zucchini/vegetables over cous cous was good, also served piping hot, but lacked seasoning. The EXCELLENT house steak came with steamed veggies and great french fries very reasonably priced. Attentive and efficient service, too.

My husband and I both loved
My husband and I both loved this restaurant and plan to return! The white clam sauce was the best I have ever had and my husband's salmon was equally delicious. Our waitress was perfect and the service overall were great. If you are looking for a more quiet space, ask to be seated in the back.

A duck delight!
Pleasantly surprised to find several duck selections - and I enjoyed one of them immensely. Evidently something they specialize in, but our seafood and other non-duck features were fantastic. But leave room for desserts - one of the most imaginative and well-done dessert trays I've seen in years, and I eat out nearly every day.

We have been going to MLB
We have been going to MLB for several years. They never disappoint. The menu is thoughtfully crafted and priced well. The dishes are well prepared and presented. The salads are wonderful, duck confit very tasty. Interesting and reasonably priced wine list.

Really nice place, service was real
Food was very good. Very nice place. Service took way too long. We asked to see the dessert tray, our waiter brought it 10 minutes later. Ordered a caramel Napoleon (which was outstanding) and it arrived 10 minutes later.

Great Pre-Meyerhoff Choice
We were looking for a light dinner before atending a concert at the Meyerhoff. Our "usual" place had no reservations available, so using the Open Table list of alternatives in the area, I selected Marie Louise Bistro. On street parking was readily available. The staff was very friendly and helpful and we were seated immediately in a more intimate portion of the restaurant, which was very nice. We concentrated on the appetizers on the menu. The steamed clams in garlic was excellent and the broth it was served in was a great accompaniement to the bread served with it. Their French onion soup was the best I've had in a long time. My wife also enjoyed her seared tuna. Their desserts are excellent. We will return soon to try more of their Menu.

Marie Louise Bistro has been
Marie Louise Bistro has been a favorite place to dine because of its pleasant atmosphere and good food for a long time. On our last visit (April 2013) we were pleasantly surprised by its more diverse menu with expanded vegetarian options which would be attractive to vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike.
Reasonable prices, a pleasant atmosphere and the expanded menu make it an attractive dining destination on Charles Street.
Marie Louise Bistro is also a great place for dessert and coffee later in the evening. Their dessert offerings are dangerously irresistible and the coffee is excellent.

Tuna tartar special might of been the best I've ever had. Great service this last time and we were seated immediately for a 7 pm dinner.

The food was great, the service
The food was great, the service was slow. There ambience of the restaurant is wonderful; I would definitely go back again. It is inexpensive for French food.

Beautifully prepared food.
Fatastic food with a definite French influence. Where else can one order frog legs? Yet many items appealed to my friends withless adventuresome tastes. Everyone in my group wants to return. The only problem is parking, my husband has trouble walking a distance.

Food very good; ambiance very nice
We had a theater afterwards, so we kind of rushed ourselves and didn't have an opportunity for a full meal. But what we had was very good to excellent. Service seemed a little off, I think they were busier than they had planned - but the staff was very friendly and helpful when available.
I would definitely recommend it and plan on visiting it again (hopefully when I'm not so rushed).

Truly a bistro
True bistros are unassuming, uncomplicated, and unpretentious. That's what you get here--a thoughtfully constructed menu of fresh, well-prepared French food served in a comfortable and casual environment by a friendly and attentive staff.
What brings me here most, though, is an exceptionally well curated list of predominately French wines that constantly impresses with tremendous QPR. Being in the wine industry, I know what many of the hidden gems are for exceptional value, but Marie Louise Bistro threatens to expose all of my secrets. The list represents wines that are meant to be enjoyed with their fantastic food, good friends, and with little impact on the wallet.
A brilliant place I wish was in my neighborhood.

Nothing seemed to catch our eye when we looked at the menu, yet everything we ordered was great.

Good things come in "small pkgs"
Excellent menu choices, food quality, presentation, and service. This small bistro is a winner....we feel like we're in Paris-not Baltimore. The home made desserts are killers....hard to decide which to choose. We love it here and will be back again!

Introducing a Friend your Bistro
The Escargot appetizer was scrumptious. I had the Wolf Fish which was cooked to perfection, sauce lacked seasoning and the Crawfish in the sauce were very over cooked . They were chewy. Told our server, he took my comment to the cook. The cook told him that this is how they were supposed to be, Really?? Chewy Crawfish in a sauce? The service was very friendly, they were not hovering, they let us have our space. Waiter was great, offered to change my dish, bring an extra order of something. Really tried to make our experirence a positive one, even after the chewy Crawfish. Desserts were fantastic, pastries that we bought to take home were delicious. Overall, a good experience. Our young friend really enjoyed herself and liked the restaurant!

From the outside it doesn't look very big, but once you step inside it is surprisingly spacious. We visited here after my daughters recital at the Peabody- since it was within walking distance. The food was excellent, and because we were in a rather large group we were able to try a great assortment. Nothing was disappointing. Fit for foodies, but also simple choices like the bistro burger- which is one of my favorites. My only qualm is how long it took to get our drinks. The bar seemed to be completely separate from the restaurant and our food had almost come out by the time they came. That being said- the Food was delicious, and he desserts were exquisite.

This place is always good. We went here late last Saturday after seeing the BSO perform. We got there an hour before they closed for desert and espresso. Eventhough we got there an hour before they close, we were greeted with smiles, good service, great desserts and even better cappuccinos. This is not the first time we have been here ( we have been here many times before) and plan to visit more regularly.

Nice quiet bistro
We had coq au vin with vegetables and roasted chicken with artichoke. Sauce reductions were very good, flavors quite rich, plenty to eat but not stuffed - a good bistro meal. Also had a small smoked salmon for appetizer and excellent french onion soup. Good selection of desserts, with more in the pastry case up front if you want one to take home. Parking very easy in the self-pay lot next door.

Marie Louise Bistro is my new love for a restaurant in Baltimore. I've enjoyed two dinners and one brunch with friends and family, leaving the restaurant with a feeling of satisfaction of having taken the chance for a first time and two repeat visits. I hope to be able to repeat the experience with other friends in the near future so the restaurant can become their new love.
8/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
The menu is a perfect blend of salads and sandwiches as well as a full meal of appetizer and dinner selections. Pastries, of course, of divine.
I appreciate the fact that service, food, and wine list are consistently excellent, as I bring business clients and friends here and need to be confident that my guests will have a pleasant experience.

John and Jerry's Birthday
We had a great family dinner out. Food fantastic, service sensational. Close quarters so noise level is high but we had no problems talking and hearing each other.. A real nice experience. Will be back.

Going to the Symphony
When I made my reservation I let the restaurant know we had tickets to The Myerhoff and it was likely our group would arrive bit by bit and they were fine with that - They confirmed when we arrived what time we needed to leave by. We ordered at 6pm and could easily have left for our show by 7:10pm. Food was good and dessert selection was abundant and tasty - A great find for good food before a show.
9/30/2013 12:00:00 AM
Stopped in for lunch and came out with re-adjusted expectations. Crab soup - staple of Baltimore menus..... Lumpy crab, rich broth, appropriately cooked veg in a stunning bowl. The chef nailed this dish. My companion's trout with capers was exceptional and just the type of bistro fare that gets advertised -but often falls short. Duck Confit salad with greens, lightly dressed. Nicely done. Marie Louise comes through with entrees as advertised but with a significantly higher quality profile than you might expect. Looked liked a bakery counter in the front. I'm sure you're like the visit.

A great pre-theater dinner option
We had a lovely dinner at MLBistro before going to a play nearby. The food is delicious, the atmosphere romantic, and the prices fairly reasonable. Maryland crab soup was perfect (at least to our taste), salads were both tasty and beautiful, roast chicken hearty and satisfying. We passed on dessert this time, but will definitely visit the pastry tray on our next visit. A word of caution: do make reservations two hours ahead of your show if you plan to attend a play or movie--the bistro gets busy at dinner time, and the service, while attentive, is leisurely. But if you're looking for a charming dinner option that won't break the budget, this is an excellent choice.

Marie Louise Wins Again!
Every time we visit Marie Louise Bistro, I am impressed with the consistency of their high quality food and service. We look forward happily to many return trips to this relatively undiscovered gem! Their salads are very good and their linguine with clam sauce is better than I had last month in Italy!
10/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
The french onion soup is divine! Great menu variety and friendly service. Everything was delicious. European ambiance in the heart of Baltimore.

Good, solid food and service
We enjoyed our evening out at Marie Louise Bistro. The waiter was enthusiastic and informative (spoke a bit too fast with a heavy accent and I speak 6 languages, including his--making it difficult to understand everything). Still, he was friendly and engaging. Food was good--nothing exceptional, but nothing wrong either. I would return in the future, but might do so after exploring others around. You probably won't go wrong by choosing Marie Louise Bistro and I would not deter anyone from trying it.

Unpretentious Good Bistro
Good value and a friendly environment.
The décor and lighting may be modified to make it more atmospheric (like a true Parisian bistro)

I don't know why others have complained about the service. we found it to be excellent.
