Comfy casual vibe (although a bit loud) with great food! Went for a late date night with 1015pm reservations. We arrived around 945pm, but they were great about seating us a little early. We had the salsiccia pizza (pork sausage, capers, olives), rigatoni with braised oxtail, and finished off with the chocolate budino. The pizza was simple but yummy - crust was nicely chewy with those great charred bits, delicious sausage and, with no cheese, the tomato sauce and other fresh ingredients were highlighted; pasta was amazing - well-cooked, oxtail meat was super tender and flavorful; dessert was a nice ending of creamy goodness with a dash of sea salt to balance... YUM! Certainly going back to check out the tasting menu when we have more time!

I wasn't sure if the place would live up to the hype, but it did. Great service, great food, it was a nice evening and I'll sure be coming back.

My husband and I went here based on a recommendation of a friend who lives in SF (we are from the East Coast). I knew this place had a lot of hype, and wasn't sure whether it would be "too trendy," but in my opinion it is worth all of the attention. My husband and I ordered the pasta tasting menu with wine pairings, and it was quite simply the most incredible, interesting (but not weirdly, pretentiously so) pasta I have ever eaten. Fresh, handmade, delicious. And the staff was incredibly warm and friendly. I confess I wasn't even sure what some of the items were on the menu (Pork Trotter? Meat from around a pig's foot, as it turns out...and quite delicious), and they answered my questions without any snootiness. Just perfect.

This restaurant was fantastic. The waitress was super friendly and helpful and the food was amazing. Our reservation was a little on the late side (8:45pm) but the place was still crowded and the atmosphere was lively and cool. We only had one day in SF and I'm definitely happy that we went here!

Pasta to die for!
The food was unbelievable....tried the Tasting Menu...everything from start to finish was awesome! Service was good although some of the wait time between dishes was a little long but they were very busy so I could overlook that. The only thing I hated was the noise ...they had music up so loud and music that just didn't fit the ambiance...left with a headache...if the food wasn't so great I would not go back just because of the noise level...but actually I can hardly wait to bring some friends to try that pasta!

Some great hits, a few misses.
Loved the stone fruit salad and rice pudding dessert. Too bad the mushroom pizza was WAY too salty.

Made a reservation 2 months ahead of time ...about 30 minutes late getting our seat...hostess was very nice but no accommodation even offered for late seating...pizza was burnt...explanation given..was that is how they cook in the firewood...and that was it...disappointing for a 50th birthday celebration

My new favorite!
The food, service, wine list, atmosphere and hip music was fabulous. Tis was my first time after trying to get a reservation without success periodically over the last few years. Our tasting menu was absolutely amazing - one of the best meals I've ever had anywhere. I think I've found a new favorite go to place in the city!!!

Fabulous pizzas and pastas,
Fabulous pizzas and pastas, we ended up eating 4 courses! Pasta servings could be larger but were delicious.
Service is excellent, the people that work there take care of you and seem to really like ther jobs. Would definitely go back!

This restaurant was soooo worth the 2month wait! My sister and I had 2 apps and 3 pastas between us and we finished it all! I have / will recommended this place to everyone I know.

This was the best restaurant
This was the best restaurant we've been to in a long time. Food was outstanding. We would have rated it high in every category, except for the noise. We'll probably overlook the noise and go back soon!

I want to preface this review by saying that the food was delicious and it is a great restaurant- but for all of the hype around this place, it certainly did not live up to the expectations. I had to make reservations at least 8 weeks in advance and the only spot available was 9:30 pm, and I still had to wait another half hour to be seated.
Only one of the pasta dishes we ordered was "out-of-this-world" and the other was sub-par.
If I had to do it over again, I would recommend Seven Hills to anyone craving delicious italian cuisine.

Glad there was an opening~
Friend and I looking for a spot in the neighborhood that was convenient. I was shocked to see the opening on OpenTable so I grabbed it. We were not disappointed. If my friend could get some of the duck liver to take home, he'd have been in heaven. My favorite was the strozzapreti with braised pork. Worth the hype. And maybe I'll check more often to see if there's availability.

I have nothing bad to say about this place. Everything on the menu is simply divine and the service is second to none. The only complaint I have is how hard it is to get a reservation as everyone elese loves this place too! if you have to wait two months to get in, book it anyways. You won't regret it!

Hard to get in!
Very hard to get reservations, so you expect great things, and although food was great and service was great was kinda disappointed in ambience and only beer and wine served. Pasta was great side dishes and apps very fresh.

the waitstaff and front desk are very professional, doing handoffs without even batting an eye, even between waitstaff. they could almost not possibly be more hipster, but that just goes with the neighborhood and clientele.
the food is very, very good. the portion sizes are small enough that you can try (and perhaps share, on the restaurant's itty-bitty tables) a few dishes.
surprisingly, the prices are quite reasonable.
recommended with no reservations.

Broccoli pizza and pasta with rabbit sausage both delicious. Pasta among the best I've had in SF. Prefer the broccoli pizza at Del Fina, but only slightly and that's very high praise. The wait is definitely worth it and between the brewery and trick dog nearby there's plenty to keep you occupied. Service was friendly and reasonably attentive, but slightly forgetful.

did the pasta tasting menu even though it was a weeknight because we went for our anniversary. amazing food! all so high quality and thoughtfully composed taste profiles. very sophisticated food. surprisingly casual diners there, many eating pizza. lots of babies for relatively expensive restaurant. nice servers, again very casual (sleeveless tank tops?!) the food makes it totally worth it though. hope to go again.

Wonderfully presented fresh food served up by a playfull knowledgeable staff.
This was a fantastic experiance. We really enjoyed all the flavor and freshness paired with the delectable italian wines.

Unique and wonderful!
We went for a special occasion and could not have asked for a better experience. Great food, friendly and attentive service, and an fun, vibrant, and unique atmosphere that isn't stuffy. Highly recommend to anyone looking for an amazing restaurant in SF -- just make sure you make a reservation a couple weeks in advance.

Very Good Dining
We came here with a 10:30pm reservation (earliest we could get with same day reservation on a Wed night), but arrived around 10pm. We got seated around 10:15pm. Host was very friendly and helpful. Food was very good. Service was great. Friendly environment. The only drawback was the restaurant is always booked, and we can only get very late reservation, even a month in advance. It was a little pricey for the amount of food. We don't mind paying, but I wish there were a little bit more on each of our plates.

Amazing pasta... for the most part
We had the tasting menu here -- a stone fruit starter (it was nice, but for $65, I'd expect more...), 5 courses of pasta (the first 3 courses were great, culminating in an a-MAY-zing lamb raviolini, but I didn't really like the last 2 courses), and a bombolini dessert (think Italian beigneits). All things considered, I'd come back, but not for the tasting menu. Portions were super generous though, which meant we ended up eating way more pasta than we should have. Service was faultless.

You know how sometimes the reality does not always live up to the hype- well after my wife had mentioned wanting to try it at least 50x's - i made reservations. Almost 1 month in advance- we ordered A LOT of food because we wanted to try everything.
The pappardelle was amazing and so was the lamb. The fried green tomato and pork belly appetizers was great. The only think that we thought was "just ok" was the pizza - so we boxed it up and ordered a 2nd pasta dish :-) I'm still full

Calm after chaos
On the evening of my reservation I picked up my daughter and her three children plus one nanny at SFairport as they were on their way to New Zealand for a year. On the freeway into the city during rush hour,A tire blew on a my new car!! Fortunately, a SFpoliceman was soon with us and a tow truck quickly changed the tire. Our collective adrenaline was still high when we arrived at FLour and Water. They couldn't have been nicer making certain that we were immediately served and continuously served. Everyone was thrilled with the food and the service. It was a wonderful place to alight after a frightening experience. I can't wait to return!!!

The pastas are all made in-house and very creative, unusual, and yummy! I would focus on the pastas over the pizza. I didn't try the appetizers but they looked delicious.

First time for me but not my spouse. This was a gift , lucky us. The staff here is great, zero attitude, rare in SF. Apps were super tasty, stone fruit salad and frito misto. Our pasta dish with quail was simple, and had an unusual and superb sauce, just right; also ordered scarpinocc having seen it recommended and found it the best pasta dish we have had...we just returned from 3 wks in Italy so that is saying a lot! The wine selection is deep, we had a wonderful dry rose. Fortunately we only used 1/2 of the gift, so absolutely look forward to another visit. The vibe here is very hip, and fun, music is def too loud. If you can get a res, go! If you can't try a drive-by, you might get lucky and if you don't it's still worth the wait.

This is a rather small restaurant. The pastas are all house made as are the pizzas. For appetizers we shared the braised octopus with melon and kohlrabi. Very refreshing & delicious. We then shared the paprika strozzapretti with braised pork & broccoli. This was my favorite dish of the night. There were only 2 entrees. We ordered one of each which was rack of lamb with basil, grapes & confit fingerlings and albacore with fennel, radish & shishto peppers. Everything was delicious & service was very good. We will be going back to this place for sure!

I made a mistake when planning
I made a mistake when planning a visit to SF and thought I'd booked this reservation for August. When my girlfriend and I showed up in Aug. and the restaurant was packed, the hostess was amazing at getting us a spot. And the meal and service was incredible. Thanks so much for a wonderful evening last month! Oh and some friends took our spot last night and loved it!

My most recent dinner here was with someone who lived in Italy for a while. She thought the pastas were perfectly cooked. The menu changes daily and the pastas are always interesting. There are also a few selections of pizza, which while good, do not quite rise to the level of the pastas. It's virtually impossible to get a reservation at this small restaurant; however, they hold half of the tables for walk-ins and there's a bar and communal table which are probably for walk-ins as well. This is the kind of casual place you'd like in your neighborhood so that you could go again and again.

More than just pizza
This was our second time back at Flour + Water, and the experience was excellent. The food was just fantastic. We had the heirloom tomato soup (gazpacho), the albacore crudo, the little gem salad, and the prosciutto wrapped rabbit. All fantastic.
We shared a margarita pizza, the squid ink and uni fusilli, and the sausage stuffed squid. Really delicious. I wish there was a little more uni in the pasta, but it was delicious and perfectly cooked.

We had the tasting menu, a little bit of all the pastas. Every single thing was 5 star excellent. Great service, great wine, all perfectly executed. I can't say a single bad thing.

Get the tasting menu!
Picking a favorite among the offerings was like having to choose a favorite child - pretty much impossible, because each dish was perfect in it's own way. My BF said he was sad when it came time to swallow each bite, because he wanted the flavors to linger longer. The pasta was perfect, and each element of every dish was at the peak of flavor. As they took each empty plate away, we knew the next dish couldn't possibly compare, but somehow, it was prepared with the same impeccable technique and incredible flavor. Will definitely be back. This is one of the best meals I've ever had in my life, and the excellent and thoughtful service will make us return again and again.

Great food/wine but music too LOUD
We had the tasting menu and the wine and food (pasta) was simply awesome. The choice of music was fine but it was too loud. We (a group of 4) sit quite close to each other literally and had to raise our voice for others to hear (I feel sorry for the next tables!). The place is quite cosy so the high volume of opmusic is beyond me.

pasta to another level
The experience at Flour n water was beyond what I expected. I knew they were doing great things with pasta, but when me and my wife tried it, we were amazed at how pasta can be elevated to a whole new level.
Food was just AMAZING. Chocolate pasta......incredible.

It was great.
Celebrated my GF's birthday and it was great. We had the fall tasting menu and it did not disappoint. I'd put all the reasons why I like it but you should experience it for yourself. I've read a lot of reviews on this place, good and bad but I wanted to try it for myself. I had no expectations and was blown away by the flavor of the food. They even put a candle on her dessert. Such a little thing makes the whole experience better. We'll definitely come back.

Luv the food but....

El lugar tiene una gran energia
El lugar desde que entras te genera una sensación de energia que tiene que ver con la excelente atención de la hostess, la música y la iluminación.
Ella nos explicó con mucho detalle la carta de pastas , y las que pedimos fueron muy buenas aunque las porciones pequeñas. Los postres fueron tal vez lo mejor de la noche, el pudin de chocolate con sal de mar es simplemente fantástico.

Still at the top of its game
Despite being around for awhile and being consistently jammed by locals and out of diners, Flour + Water team is still executing perfectly. We had the tasting menu for two and every single bite was delicious and cooked perfectly. The pastas were heavenly, especially the teleme scarpinocc and the corzetti verde. Great service, wine selection and menu options.
I would absolutely recommend this restaurant to both new and past visitors.
