The fixed priced dinner was a great deal. The by-the-glass wine list was extensive and my server was very helpful in making my selections.

A favorite SFe restaurant!
The food was delicious, as usual, especially the pate appetizer -- in addition, we had the rabbit and the trout, both of which we thoroughly enjoyed. The $32.50 prix fixe three course dinner is a great deal if you are ravenous -- a lot of food!
My problem with Il Piatto is the total lack of colorful decor which detracts greatly from its ambiance. The walls are covered with various boring unreadable menus in mostly diploma type black frames -- dreadful! Santa Fe is one of the largest art markets in the country, and there's no excuse for not showing it in such a popular venue. We travel in Italy and know what an Italian restaurant should look like, and it doesn't have to cost a lot of money.

And just what we'd been looking for. In all honesty, the food was mostly sublime, but the grilled calamari missed the mark with a heavy aioli, and there could have been more fruit with the (heavenly) zabaglione. Otherwise, we are craving this food already. A nice break from all the NM/southwest cuisine, and a lovely place to spend an evening.

The best meal in Santa Fe
Roast chicken and pumpkin ravioli, along with their house salad, plus chocolate mousse for dessert. Everything on thier menu is exceptional. Some of the most gracious people at any restaurant.

best deal in town
Year in and year out, one of the top restaurants in Santa Fe. The food, service, and wine list are great. The three course price fix dinner for $32.50 is a great deal. Really a great experience all around!

A nice change
Stereotypes are a real time saver but when it comes to Itailian food in Santa Fe, they are no help. My wife and I had our share of New Mexican fare and decided on Italian. We came across Il Piatto on Open Table and we not disappointed. We were greeted promptly. I didn't spend a lot of time looking at the wine list but at first glance, it appeared they charge a lot for their bottles. My wife ordered a Chardonnay by the glass, about $11 which was typical. I enjoyed a cesar salad and the hangar steak, my wide had the cheese ravioli in alfredo sauce. Yes, it was rich, but it was good. My steak was great as well. I'd go back.

We went for the half price
We went for the half price happy hour. The food was incredible !!!!!

Pasta was very good
Wine portions were on the small side and the service was slow, but the food was quite good and reasonably priced.

Great food; terrible service
We'd read that Il Piatto had a problem with slow service, but we were on vacation and in no hurry. But Whoa! It's REALLY slow service! You wonder if they noticed that you came in the door!
However, the food is just terrific. I had tomato/fresh ricotta salad and husband had a garden salad. The ricotta was freshly made and deliciously lemony. Very unusual. For entrees, I had their beef steak, mashed potatoes and spinach. The steak was more like a cutlet -- not what I was expecting, but very good. Husband had rabbit cannelloni and that was really superb - light freshly made pasta. Desserts were quite good- a ricotta cheesecake - very light, and a tasty chocolate mousse.

My husband and I had a date, and chose a restaurant that we had not eaten at before. It was rated in the top restaurants in Santa Fe, so I thought we would try it. The food was wonderful. The great flavors in the appetizers and meal choices were not typical. We shared a superb bottle of wine and savored every bite!

Squid ink spaghetti with calamari,

Only black spaghetti with a great flavor, give it a try.

Rural Italian cuisine with class
With a chef's tweek on every dish, all selections were their best versions....rabbit confit, veal tongue, wild mushrooms, anchovy Ceasar salad, antipasto, river trout.....all excellent. Especially liked the affordable prix fixe option and several selections offered in 2 size portions. Have dinner here. The al fresco tables provide superb downtown people watching and the interior layout allows for several tables with an intimate feel.

Now one of our Santa Fe favorites
We just had dinner at Il Piatto for the second time and it was just as delicious as the first! The trout is excellent and I loved the zabaglione which is not a dessert that I can frequently find on the menu even in Italian restaurants. My husband is very picky about his Italian food and he and our children have all been very happy with Il Piatto. I anticipate that it will be a must when we visit Santa Fe.

Excellent Meal in Santa Fe
Il Piatto is absolutely a neighborhood gem. The aroma of butter and garlic pulls you in off the sidewalk and it just gets better from there. Service is friendly and knowledgable. Definately make reservations, super busy! Best deal is the late night menu and half price wine specials after 9p. Food was excellent: trout, duckling, gnocci, appetizers and desserts were all unique, delicious and creative. Want to go back and try their rabbit entrees too. We were visiting Santa Fe from out of town and came here on the advice of friends. I'm recommending this place more friends and we'll definately be back.

Good restaurant in Santa Fe
Amazing food, the 3 courses menu at $20 after 9pm is definitely a great deal + the wine is half price after 9pm as well.
The service could be better.

Wonderful except for our table!
This was our first dining experience here. We arrived early, there were many tables open, and we were ushered by the hostess to a table for 2 in the center of the room. We asked to be put at another table and were told the tables were all reserved. We also had a reservation and there were tables on the edge of the room that were empty the entire time we were there. The hostess was brusque and unwilling to negotiate. The attitude was "my way or the highway" and we were a well dressed, professional couple. We have decided in the future that if good tables are available, and we are placed at the worst table in the house, we will find another restaurant.
The food was excellent, our server, Maddy (I believe) was delightful and helpful.

Italian food with a hint of
Italian food with a hint of SW so green chili pasta. Their $32, 3 course special was excellent value but slightly hidden in the small print at the end of the menu. Good wine list.

The menu has changed since
The menu has changed since our last visit from Albuquerque. It is more in the "Santa Fe" pretentious direction than before. It may go over well with your tourist customers, but we will likely go elsewhere in the future. You did it well, however.
A New Mexican
8/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
We tried the shrimp and the osso buco. The preparation, presentations and seasoning were both great. Our waitress was knowledgable and made great suggestions.
8/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great food, nice ambiance
Good location in the heart of downtown Santa Fe. The food is excellent, and there are many items you won't see on the menu at your typical restaurant, but I would consider this a gourmet restaurant. I brought out of town guests, and we enjoyed wine and shared a bunch of appetizers and half orders so we each got to try a lot of things. Also, the happy hour deals here are the best in town. The ambiance is also really lovely.

"True Italian" in Santa Fe
We found the service to be very attentive and the food is fantastic. They had a three course prix-fix menu (appetizer, entrée, and dessert) and late night happy hours (1/2 price wines after 9pm). We loved the authentic Italian style calamari. They also had unusual (for New Mexico) dishes with rabbit and duck. There was also the standard fare of other Italian dishes accompanied by a fantastic wine selection. They are renowned for their selection of local mushrooms (porcini).

First time diners, and we
First time diners, and we weren't disappointed. The service was good, and the food was excellent. Outsanding veal chop. Will definitely be dining there again.
8/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
very good Italian restaurant
Moist Italian restaurants have a very standard menu, not Il Piatto. Each dish has a distinct signature in flavor and a very pleasant combination of ingredients. Il Piatto avoids falling in the same trap of most Italians restaurants that serve all their dishes smothered in cheese and tomato sauce. It is very refreshing to taste new recipes and flavors.

What a deal. What great food.
We've been coming to Santa Fe for eons but had never eaten here. What a mistake! The food is wonderful and at the lunch prices, it's a steal. We will return.
8/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
You must go here!
Other than a large party of nine, that were a little too loud, there was not one thing to complain about. The restaurant was decorated so nicely , the food was wonderful, and the service was top notch! The wait staff helped each other, which was very nice. They were a pleasant, happy group, and did not seem stressed out like a lot of restaurant staff. I feel sure that the helping hand they gave one another not only helped them, but made our dining experience much more pleasant. Yes, I will go here again and tell everyone!

My husband and I had a mixed
My husband and I had a mixed experience. The wrong appetizer was served to him, so mine went back to stay warm while the proper one was brought out. His appetizer of tongue was excellent; mine of stuffed squash blossom was off the mark with much goat cheese and little seasoning. His entree of duck scallopine was excellent; mine of rabbit canneloni was mainly ricotta with no discernible rabbit pieces (maybe it was pureed) and no rabbit flavor. Because of my husband's wonderful experience, we would go back and I would order differently.
8/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
A consistent favorite
This restaurant is always on our shot list of places to go when we are in Santa Fe. The food is always very good with an interesting variety of options. The wine list is good (they do not have full bar service) and we enjoyed an Argentinian wine. The service was good, although the server could have been a bit more attentive. All in all, we were very pleased with our choice and Il Piato remains on our list of local favorites.
8/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
We've been visiting this restaurant for years, and have never been disappointed. This was another leisurely dinner at Il Piatto. Service was attentive and friendly; entrees were slow in arriving to our table, and portions were small, but our appetizers and entrees were excellent - beautifully prepared and presented - and even without dessert we left feeling satisfied and relaxed. Love the pumpkin ravioli and the calamari appetizer! We enjoy eating outside by the sidewalk; usually more quiet than inside.
8/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
Very good - different than past
The food is very good but this time didn't seem as good as past visits. The gnocchi were large, square and unremarkable. While the sauce was excellent, the gnocchi were not nearly as melt-in-your-mouth as the several other times I have had them here. The bread pudding dessert it's fair to say is more of a custard than a bread pudding. If you are expecting a dense bread-like dish, you'll be unhappy, however the custard taste was very good. It looked a bit "tossed on the plate" this visit, different than I've seen before. Prices here are significant: 2 people, one appetizer, 2 entrees, 2 glasses of wine, 1 dessert (no coffee or other extras) came to $99. For that amount, although usually excellent, this was unremarkable and I expect more.

Excellent Food and Service
We stumbled across this gem one night in Santa Fe and the food and service was outstanding. We thought it was so good we had dinner another night, while we were in town. We highly recommend it and will definitely go back on our next visit to Santa Fe.

Late Night Find
Il Piatto is the best late night dining spot in Santa Fe! Great service, food and wine make this a wonderful destination for two or small groups - and if these attributes aren't enough , the after 9:00 pm Happy hour and prix fixes prices provide a dining deal too good to pass up. Also notable was our server, Doug, who asked if we would prefer a table in front of the window, and was very attentive throughout our dinner - ordering wine, prix fixes suggestions and very professional. The pasta dishes are rich and filling, the olive oil and bread reminiscent of northern Italy's restaurants, and the mousse dessert a perfect finish.

We just returned from Venice
We just returned from Venice and our meal here was better than any in Italy. Yellow Tomato gazpacho was a terrific starter. Both pasta dishes we had were perfect. Wine is pricey but there are many choices. One of us had the 3 course fixed price dinner and this is a great bargain. Everything on the menu is available for this option and it is a great price at 32.50. We can't recommend this restaurant highly enough. We think it is the best Italian restaurant in Santa Fe.
9/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
We enjoyed the special half
We enjoyed the special half priced happy hour appetizers which were all gourmet, and the half price wine by the glass.

You Cant Go Wrong!
Great experience from beginning to end. We had a party of four and every dish was right on. The pasta with italian sausage was incredible. Service was excellent. Highly recommend reservations during busy seasons.

First Time Wonder
Read about Il Piatto online and we were not disappointed. Very unique menu - had pickled cow's tongue with squash pickles and assorted mustards - loved it. Stuffed and fried squash blossoms were very light and tasty. The mussels with red chile linguine and saffron creme sauce were divine. Also tried rabbit cannelloni and rabbit confit - highly recommend both. We cannot wait to go back to Santa Fe to try the many other unique dishes on the menu.

Great for large or small appetites
Excellent food, service, and wine. The half portions allow one to sample while the full portions satisfy the hearty appetite.
9/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
Not up to par
We were disappointed at Il Piatto for the first time. The service was not good...very slow. Some of the food was not up to par, especially the chicken marsella.

Italian Farmhouse - Extrodinare!
This local vibrant spot has always been a top favorite. The restaurant is quite attractive and the bar is great to enjoy late night snacks.
The meal was extraordinary!! I adore the pumpkin ravoli's with a sage butter. Had a 1/2 plate and an heirloom tomatoe salad with housemade lemon ricotta. And a dessert !! ooooh.
Zac, waiter -- was great, offering suggestions and being attentive.
Chef Matt is committed to the Santa Fe hospitality scene, and is active in the sustainable and local farmers market. I love to see the fresh fresh deliveries as the farmers are on their way to the local Farmer's Market.
You know you are eating well, healthy and are cared for! Take a look at their facebook page to see more local foodie info!

Great food and service. Trout was flavorful and moist. Duck pasta dish was amazing. Would definitely recommend, even in Santa Fe.
10/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food was truly memorable...a seasonal appetizer of risotto in a miniature pumpkin, followed by the melt-in-your-mouth gnocchi, then the chicken livers, which were the best I have ever eaten. The three courses were on the fixed price menu, and at $32 were an outstanding bargain. This is now my favorite Santa Fe dining choice!
10/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
IP is always great, it is one of those perfect places, that is so in tune with what they do, and stay on top of everything, that it always seems seamless and delicious

Great place near the Plaza
This place really adds to the value of Santa Fe's historic Plaza scene and Santa Fe's growing place on the culinary excellence map/

My wife and I enjoyed a nice meal to celebrate our anniversary. The ravioli first course was our favorite.
10/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
I had the pumpkin ravioli. It was fantastic. The server was extremely pleasant and attentive.
All in all it was a great dinner. I will return.

Overall, not bad
I would call it good but not great. My girlfriend got the wrong order, or I would probably rate it a little higher.

Our first visit ... Quaint Italian farmhouse feel! We had 3 course meal for$20.13. Stuffed calamari with sausage ... Delicious! Nice wine menu too! Service very pleasant! Use of locally grown products admirable! A wonderful dining experience ... Seated near window with view if Marcy Street ... Quaint!

Whoa! It's great
I took my wife for our one year anniversary. It was very nice for such a special occasion.
11/15/2013 4:00:00 PM
The lunch and dinner specials are fantastic values. Virtually every dish I have had there has been excellent. They just started a three course menu with limited choices for $20 for New Mexico residents. It probably is the best value in town. It is a better value than anything I have seen in Santa Fe.
Did I mention the food is very VERY good?
