Enjoyed our meal, would request
Enjoyed our meal, would request a table further from the bar next time, as it was a bit noisy. Pasta with white clam sauce was excellent, with a good number of whole clams. Chicken marsala was very good. House salad very fresh and tasty. Fresh bread with olive oil for dipping was great. Extensive wine list, bottles were half price that evening. Large dining room was attractive but very dark, with few diners, resulting in perception of dining in a large cavern.

It was restaurant week and the place was hopping!
We were seated at what I considered to be the best table in the house!
The wait staff were incredibly attentive and responsive... not to mention friendly but not chummy, which I despise...
We would go back to Pope's Tavern OVER the other option in town... we absolutely loved it!

Best dining in Oxford
This was our first visit but certainly will not be the last. Will surely recommend it to friends who will be traveling to that area. Good food and friendly service.

What a treasure
My husband and I went to Oxford for our anniversary and stayed at the Oxford Inn Bed and Breakfast. We made reservations for the restaurant onsite...Pope's Tavern and it was the best meal we had all weekend. The food is well thought out and the menu is small enough that the dishes are all executed properly and at a high level. I would consider driving over and hour to get there just for dinner. The chef was very personable as we had a chance to chat with her at breakfast the next morning. We loved it and will definitely be back.

Recommended by our nephew. Not a large selection but it was delightful. Husband had soft shell crabs over a southern succotash - best he ever had!! I had lamb chops which were a bit overdone but still delish. Desserts were the BEST- chocolate mousse and key lime pie - perfect endings. Great martinis! Awesome dining experience! Will be back next year!

Mid eastern shore gem
This restaurant is my husband and my favorite restaurant on the mid eastern shore of Maryland. The food is very high quality and their preparation and presentation cannot be surpassed by other resturants making the same claims. It is not the least expensive, but worth every penny.

Great food. A bit noisy.
The food was terrific. Service very pleasant. Because of so many hard surfaces, the room was quite noisy.

Welcoming owner and staff
We felt welcomed from the moment we stepped in. I'm very picky plain eater and they were able to accomodate without a hesitation. Will be back and will be our 1st stop!

You need to go to Pope's Tavern!
Pope's Tavern is our favorite restaurant on the Eastern Shore. A couple of weeks ago we took good friends who had never been to Oxford before, and Pope's did not disappoint. The dinner was terrific. We had soft- shell crabs, rockfish and tuna. Not only was the fish and shellfish perfect, but you have to try the succotash. Best anywhere!
Lisa is a tremendous chef and her husband Dan is a great host. If you need a ride from one of the Oxford marinas, Dan will pick you up in an old right-hand drive London taxi- "The Popemobile".
We're making another reservation for this coming weekend.

An exquisite experience
The food an service at Pope's Tavern is too notch. My girlfriend and I are both in the food industry and had one of our favorite meals at Pope's. I had an amazing special of flounder cooked perfectly and accompanied by some of the greatest garlic mashed potatoes I have ever had. My girlfriend had the soft shell crab and we have not tasted a better soft shell crab before... And I am from Maryland! We asked for a recommendation on wine and was served a fabulous bottle that paired wonderfully with both our dinners. We both will highly recommend Pope's tavern to anyone headed to the eastern shore.

Above and Beyond GREAT
Imagine a place that goes that extra step to make sure your evening is as wonderful as it could be. Now, go two more steps and you'll probably find yourself at Pope's. At least, that was our experience. The tomatoes in the capresse salad were grown out back, the tuna was incredibly fresh, the crab cakes were perfection and the Eastern Shore succotash was sublime. They clearly know a thing or two about wine too - as the list read like a "Who's Who" - with a great variety. But, beyond the fantastic food and warm atmosphere is the thoughtfulness of staff and owners. Imagine being asked if you would like an after dinner cigar on the porch, or a ride back to the marina in the London Black cab -"Pope's Mobile"? It was above and beyond GREAT!

Located in the quaint town of Oxford, in a beautiful historic Inn, going in the Pope's Tavern makes you feel like you are stepping back in time. Delicious fresh seafood, prepared skillfully in the Maryland tradition. The soft crabs and flounder melted in our mouths. Service was attentive friendly. If you arrive by boat, the Pope Mobile, an old london taxi will pick you up. Enjoy the beautiful porch for a drink outside for a view of the marina across the street.

Charming Spot for delicious dining
Pope's Tavern at the Oxford Inn in Oxford, Maryland, is easy to miss as the road turns away from it just as it comes into view. Do not pass this spot by! Our dinner was divine from start to finish--and reasonable, too.

Culinary warmth in Oxford.
We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience at Pope's Tavern. My wife and I were visiting Oxford celebrating our 2nd wedding anniversary. Pope's was cozy and quaint respite from a cold, raw, wet off-season evening. We were greeted warmly by the bartender, who quickly procured a cocktail for us, and then left her post to coordinate our seating. We enjoyed a corner table in a quiet, almost empty dining room. Our meal matched the ambiance in it's warmth and heartiness. The Moules and Frites were a fantastic starter, and my wife thoroughly enjoyed her shrimp risotto. All in all, Pope's Tavern was exactly what we had in mind--fine dining served in a quiet, quaint and cozy atmosphere. Tres Bien!

A real gem
Second time here! We're early diners so it was very quiet. Charming atmosphere. My oysters Pope style were very dry but tasty. Liver pate special was delish! Our Rockfish and NY strip specials were both excellent. Flourless chocolate cake wasn't as decedent as our last dessert there, but still great. Great place for a special occasion! Very good martini's and a nice selection of wines. We'll definitely be back!!

If you are looking for a quiet dining experience, Pope's Tavern is not the place. Although it is a small venue, a couple loud talkers can dampen an otherwise terrific experience. I would recommend going during the week when it is quieter than on the weekend. Do not order the Crème bruele for dessert as you may be disappointed.

Nice spot to take out of town guest
Quaint Inn, just about 12 or 14 tables. Nice wine selection. Nice food presentation. Three specials of the evening besides the regular menu choices. The food was excellent-- well prepared and very tasty. The service was "spotty".....we were greeted quickly upon arrival, placed and received our drink order but then waited nearly 40 minutes to place our food order after flagging down our server. There was no apology or acknowlegement for the delay. There was a festival going on in the neighboring town which brought many visitors to the area but the restaurant appeared to be staffed appropriately to handle the crowd. Service improved as the evening progressed.

The meal at Pope's Tavern at the Oxford Inn was all that we expected it to be. This restaurant is a favorite because the food is always reliably delicious!
The specials should be tried because they are creative and delicious.
