My husband and I dined here for NYE and the food and drink concoctions are to die for! So happy to find a "foodie" restaurant in historic EC. Great place to go too if you're just looking for a unique drinking experience - they specialize in infused house-made vodkas!

Everything we ate had so much
Everything we ate had so much flavor! Combinations I never would have thought of were amazing. All 3 in our group loved the food, ambience and service. The owner even came to the table to make sure all was good. Definitely recommend this place.

Enjoyed the tapas style meal. Interesting novelties along with some solid comfort food. The french fries were a surprising hit with my family.

Can't wait to go back!
My group of 4 was celebrating a big birthday, and we were treated like rock stars! I can't say enough about the service or the food. We loved everything we ordered (and we ordered A LOT!) and had such a great time that we closed the place down at midnight... and our reservation was for 7:30! Chef Matt spent time with us at the end of the night and explained a bit about how our food was prepared, and he was very excited about some new things he has planned. You can tell this man truly loves what he does, and it shows in his food.

The infused vodka bar is amazing and creative. In addition to the delicious food, you won't want to miss it.

Wonderful food menu set up
Wonderful food menu set up by the chef, the only downfall was some items were unavailable because they were switching their menu over. I had the lamb t-bone special an it was complexly delicious. The server seemed a little frazzled and forgot a thing or two, but she was very attentive and friendly. Food was delivered whenever it was ready which was kind of neat! Will definitely be returning here to sample the new menu, cheers!

Finally got to go
I have been wanting to come to The Rumor Mill for awhile and could never find reservation times that suited me. Finally, I was able to get a time that worked for me.
My wife and I had a great time, even though we sat next to a table with 2 screaming kids.
The food was delicious, baked brie and duck with cherries and the kobe beef sliders. The crab dip was good but not exceptional.
The real treat were the infused vodkas! I had a Pistachio vodka on the rocks and it did not disappoint. The wife had White Peach vodka which was excellent as well. The chef/owner surprised us with chocolates at the end of the meal. It was a great touch and much appreciated. Parking can be a bit tricky, as it is all street or pay lots.

This restaurant was a wonderful find. Great infused vodkas and wonderful tapas style meals. We'll be back.

The tapas was spectacular! Also loved the dessert.

Service and food excellent.
Try the cilantro beef or if daring the BLT calamari.

Great Mother's Day lunch!
I brought my mom here for Mother's Day. We started w/ the yellow beets. The blue cheese medallions added a nice kick. Next we had the calamari blt - our fave dish. The calamari was cooked perfectly w/ a nice, light breading. We followed w/ the fried oysters. The sauces really brought out the flavors.
We ended w/ the baked brie & the choice of spicy bacon marmalade or peach compote. We requested half/half, but were told that wasn't possible. When it came out the topping was just spread on; so they could have easily accommodated our request. We ended up going w/ the bacon. It was good, but we would have enjoyed a taste of both.
Our server was friendly and the pace of the meal was perfect. We really enjoyed our experience & will visit again.

An Unexpected Gem
We had seen The Rumor Mill many times while walking up Main Street in Ellicott City, but always thought it was a just small bistro. Were we ever wrong! It's very spacious and has lots of charm and character. Food is OUTSTANDING. We had a tomato puree tartlet that was out of this world. For the tipsy they also have a great selection of infused vodkas - I had a Bloody Mary with jalepeno infused vodka. The closest I can come to a complaint - they don't have ketchup if you order something with fries (or at least didn't that day). However, by time our waitress came back to us with that news, we had already eaten all of the fries, which are really delicious...

So impressed with the Rumor Mill, from start to finish. The food is well-crafted and interesting; it's easy to tell that everything is done from scratch, and with care. Drinks were great. And the people were so friendly: our server was enthusiastic and helpful, but it wasn't just her that made us feel cared for. The hostesses were nice, patient as we got our group together, and both the chef and his wife came out personally (at separate times) to make sure that everything was good. They didn't just stop by the table, either - they seemed really interested to hear about our experience there. We took our time, had everything from appetizers to dessert (homemade ice creams were awesome) and will definitely be back soon!

Change is good
My husband and I have frequented The Rumor Mill for a few years now and have always had our expectations of excellent food and service met. A recent change in the menu has just placed this establishment on another level of excellence. Their special saffron-infused gin and tonic oysters on the half shell are amazing. And this is coming from someone who has never liked a raw oyster in her life. The entire menu is a culinary delight and you won't be disappointed. It is definitely worth every penny.
5/16/2013 4:00:00 PM
Fantastic food, great atmosphere
We have been to the Rumor Mill many times and we are always delighted with the food and service. This time, we were thrilled with the special menu. The drinks were amazing (especially the mojito and the sparkling hibiscus lemonade) and there were many new items on the menu as well. We loved the yellow beets and the tempura mushrooms. The sliders are always a favorite, too.
If you are looking for an unforgettable dining experience, come to the Rumor Mill. There is always something fresh and new to delight you!

Happy with food/sevice; loud patron
All was fine other than the patron with the overbearingly loud voice. Not much the restaurant could do about this but it really interfered with our enjoyment of our meal.

We selected Rumor Mill for
We selected Rumor Mill for our 30th wedding anniversary dinner. Our expectations were high and we were not disappointed.

Waitress seemed a bit inexperienced but pleasant. Food was great as usual. One of my favorite places!

Excellent and unusual food,
Excellent and unusual food, but pricey. Excellent service. Make sure you're up on your French. Do you know the meaning of Sous vide?

One of our Favorites
We are always impressed with Rumor Mill. The food is superb and the wait staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. The fusion vodkas are always delicious!
7/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
My friends hate to go out with me because I am very picky and often not pleased. This was certainly an exception to the norm. I was spending the weekend in Ellicott City with my girlfriend and our 6 month old baby. We found The Rumor Mill using OpenTable and were more than pleased. The food was incredible, it is tapas style so we each chose 3 items and shared everything, only complaint was that the tuna tartare lacked salt (in the Chef's defense, he served it with tortilla chips which are salty but we ate it without the chips). The drinks were just above average, they barrel age cocktails there which were all very original but none of them "wowed" us, the house made adult root beer was probably the best. Check this place out.

looking for a great treat?
Every dish was excellent and our server was the perfect mix of attentive without being intrusive.

Overall very good
I went with my husband when our kids were with the grandparents. We had a very pleasant experience. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. Our dishes were great overall. Not over the top, but very good. This was our first time here and thought the setting and decor were just okay. It was smaller than I expected.
7/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
Awesome is an understatement
I love going here and every time I have gone I am NEVER disappointed. The food is beautifully presented and the taste is even better than it looks. It is tapas style and it makes you enjoy and savor each bite. One of my favorites is the drink menu, the bar offers 70 different infused vodkas, which they prepare themselves! The Chef, Matthew, usually comes around and visits the tables. He is very personable. The rest of the staff is equally as great.

My sister and I tried this
My sister and I tried this for an after work early drinks and meal...We stayed 3 hours...and not becaue it was slow..but because it was that enjoyable...Quaint place tucked back in the alley in Historic Ellicott City...We thoroughly enjoyed it. Small plate menu allowed for us to try alot of different items...some twice..There are items for all diners....beef, pork, fish, crab, shrimp vegatables....they have specialty "aged in oak 90 days" drinks....very unusual....NOT to be missed are the sweet potato fries are not like any you have ever had before...AMAZING...It was great to have cooked food come to the table HOT not just warm......Reasonably priced. Definitely A Do Again!

a Hidden Gem
An alley of Historic Ellicott City hides a superb restaurant. The Rumor Mill serves exceptional food in tapas form that make you want to try everything on the menu. I do not like mushrooms but I tried the fried oyster mushrooms and they were excellent. Different combinations of flavors made for food that we are still talking about. Congratulatins to Chef Milani.

Excellent Tapas Find
I reserved a weeknight table for dinner for my wife, I, and 2 of our engaged friends to catch up. The Rumor Mill was tucked away in an alley, so it was a good thing we found it online, since it would not have stuck out as a Dining option if we just drove through town. I made a mistake thinking all of their menu choices were inexpensive, despite their enticing descriptions and the restaurants almost "classy old alehouse" inside design, but I missed the "tapas" part of the description. We did end up paying much more than we anticipated, with each couple ordering 4 dishes, but it was very worth it!!! The food was fantastic, the head chef delivered our appetizer, the wine and beer selection was phenomenal, and we overall had a great evening.

Gem for special occasions
We celebrated our anniversary here, and enjoyed the food, setting and ambiance immensely. It is a "small plate" restaurant where your party will likely share multiple dishes. We especially liked the stuffed brie. They also make their own ice creams (we had the mint, buttermilk, and chai varieties), and infuse vodka with a variety of flavors (we liked both butterscotch and smokey marshmellow). The menu does cater to adult tastes, so best to leave the kids home and let the adults enjoy a night out.

Ecclectic and Eccentric
Chef/Owner Matt Millani is both a genius and a madman when it comes to the concoctions that rise from his kitchen. Stop by frequently to see a wide, ever-changing variety of specials from the basic to the insane. Some past specials have included grilled swordfish with a lemon salsa, porkbelly summer rolls, and even a sweet gazpacho that more resembles a cold yogurt soup. The standard menu items are always a good choice, but it would be preferred for non-regular customers if the portion sizes were clearly defined on the menu. Despite the fact that the restaurant is "Fusion/Tapas" some of the plates are rather large (i.e. - Beef Tagliata, Tuna Tartare). Extensive in-house fusion vodkas are great - servers and bartenders are friendly.
8/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
This place is awesome, my favorite restaurant. everything is always sooo good, defiantly try here if you've never been.

Overall, my date and I enjoyed
Overall, my date and I enjoyed our dinner at the Rumor Mill. The quality and presentation of the food was fantastic. We especially enjoyed the scallops and crab & goat cheese dumplings. We were a bit disappointed that the brie was not available as that was something we were looking forward to. There was a great selection of drinks from the bar. Our bartender/server was great. He was extremely knowledgeable. I tried a drink with grapefruit juice, soda, and thai chile vodka. I did not particularly care for it, but the bartender made every effort to rectify the situation. While I understand that the quality and presentation of the food plays a role, I do think the prices are a bit too high for me to visit more than 2x/year.

Eclectic tapas choices
The food was very interesting and quite tasty. Apparently, the chef likes to experiment with the menu and changes it often. I was very happy with the varying flavors and textures, and the list of over 30 flavor infusions for vodka drinks made for some crazy cocktails. The only thing keeping this restaurant from 5 stars in the food category was the price. But to be fair, tapas is always expensive, and you're just not going to find these dishes elsewhere.
8/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
excellent food and service
Our group of 4 loved almost every dish and appreciated how quickly dishes came out - one or two at a time so we could enjoy them soon but without having them all at once. Only a couple that we found so-so - the crab wontons, which seemed to have little crab and a rather thivk wrapper, and the flourless chocolate torte, which tasted too much like a frosty at Wendy's (very much like ice cream, and not very chocolate-y). Many other dishes were great though, the brie, the small stuffed crab legs (a special), and calamari BLT.

Always a Great Night Out
I've been to the Rumor Mill for a celebration with 10 people, a night out with my parents, and date nights with my wife. The menu, drink list, and atmosphere has fit every occasion perfectly. The last time we dined at Rumor Mill, Chef Matthew had just purchased an entire pig and his creativity was reflected in the specials on that nights menu. Our last dish was hand delivered by Chef Matthew along with a brief conversation about the local restaurant scene and what he is trying to bring to the community through the Rumor Mill. All in all this is a fantastic restaurant with an ever changing, creative menu and a enthusiastic local chef/small business owner.

Food was absolutely amazing,
Food was absolutely amazing, service was great, atmosphere was fit for any occasion. The owner is very friendly and very involved with numerous charities and special organizations. I would recommend this restaurant to anybody looking for a good time, great food, and a friendly environment. The infused vodkas and gin menu is an added bonus. I love this place and will certainly be back soon!

Great romantic ambiance
My wife and i thoroughly enjoyed our experience at the Rumor Mill on a Friday night. Both the delicious diverse tapas style menu and the infused vodka list were great. The waitress was very friendly and helpful, all our dishes were brought out at the perfect time and couldn't have been tastier. Can't wait for a return trip, highly recommend.

nice hidden gem on Main Street
We wanted simple food, but yummy....hoping for a quiet evening....and that's what we got. Not a very big menu, but fresh ingredients prepared with a creative flair. Both of our salads were quite good, and we both enjoyed our entrees and desserts. Weekends here are usually busy, but we lucked out. The waitress was great and very helpful with our selections.
We both definitely recommend this place.

A great time
Four of us went to celebrate a birthday. Each has own taste and preferences. The entire experience was a pleasure for all. Very good food, great service and a quiet atmosphere where we could actually speak to each other.

I am not a foodie..but I understand
My wife and I have been dining at (or drawn into) The Rumor Mill for months now and Chef Matt Milani and his entire staff keep us wanting more and more because they continue to change their menu and evolve their offerings.
Without fail, every time we dine here, there's a moment where I have to sit and be still. I used to think that was me taking a break and letting the food settle. I have to make room for the bread pudding with two scoops of whatever ice cream Matt dreamed up. But last Saturday, we had Matt's Chicken and Waffles, and I had a moment...an emotional connection to that meal (yeah Chicken and Waffles of all things!). And I realized, that's what keeps my wife and I coming back.
I am not a foodie...but I understand.

A Culinary Adventure
This was perhaps our fourth visit to the Rumor Mill and we were not disappointed. Chef Matthew always takes us on a food adventure.Food is served in a tapas or a la carte fashion; so best to choose several items from the menu and share with the table. While most of the food is known to you, the combinations, spices and preparation may be the adventure. Even the coctail bar offers a chance for something new and unique. Ever tried a Honey-Fig Manhatten? I did and loved it!
So if unique and great food is what you seek, try thr Romor Mill.
10/5/2013 12:00:00 AM
The Rumor Mill is definitely something different. This is not your average restaurant with typical American portions. Each dish is prepared beautifully and is a work of art. The quality is very high while the quantity is very small. Some people will not be pleased with this combination, but if you know what to expect, I think you can enjoy a superb meal.
10/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
Four of us shared a number of tapas plates. Everything was excellent. Very unique Brussels sprouts are cooked then flash fried ...makes them very good, the scallops were perfect, the two way cooked lamb also very tasty. The cream cheese and salmon dish is in a class by itself. This is must try.

Inventive chef, eclectic menu
Chef Matt came out to talk to us. We had to compliment him on his inventive mixes of savory and sweet, various mixes of textures and flavors that were great complements to one another. Small portions allowed us to mix it up and have tastings of all types of menu offerings. Matt's recipes are adventurous and explode with fresh and unique flavors and mouth feel. Holly was a great server and her suggestions were spot on. Unique, inventive, highly recommended!

Not bad at all
We ate here on a Sun evening and were the only people dining. The staff was attentive and sweet. Food was was prepared though the meat dish was cold. Ribs are fantastic as was crab, and ginger pear salad. I don't understand why it was empty but it made dinner a bit disconcerting. Plan to try them again on a different night.

Inventive small plates
This is a true gem in the heart if historic Ellicott City, set back from Frederick Road and tucked into a corner by the water. Chef Matthew Milani offers a menu of eclectic, inventive small plates that include vegetarian, meat and seafood options. It's always hard to choose a favorite. Also of note are their vodka infusions and their exceptional bourbon drinks. The plates are served well times, and service is wonderfully attentive. Chef Matthew makes a point of stopping by tables to say hello. Ambiance is warm and comfortable. Don't miss this adorable, delicious spot in Howard County.

The Rumor Mill is a great
The Rumor Mill is a great find. Chef is very creative & prepared a number of interesting, tasty dishes tapas-style, so we ordered a number of items to share and had a chance to try more things. Cilantro beef with cucumber slices was a stand-out. Wait staff is prompt, knowledgeable, but not overbearing. A group near us appeared to receive just the right amount of attention, too. Drinks are a highlight. Honey bourbon aged in a cask with ginger was wonderful, and the fruit infused vodkas were great. The bar was buzzing by the time we left. Be sure to use the new parking app for Ellicott City to find nearby parking.

It was delicious, get some creamsicle in your face.
11/23/2013 4:00:00 PM
i love Tapas style food service since it allows for that lovely broad scope of tastes of interesting foods and avoids the obligation of eating 'too much' of anything. At this intimate restaurant you also have the most fabulous versions of foods you know but never knew they could taste this good! The wait staff are knowledgeable and engaging in just the right degree you want during your meal. You feel like you are a true 'guest' here - and especially so when the chef/owner, Matt, makes a personal stop by your table just to let you know you are special and that your opinion of his food and 'house' is meaningful to him.
I have taken various friends here and they always leave with enthusiastic praise for a great evening!
11/26/2013 4:00:00 PM
Glad we gave the Rumor Mill a try.
We dined here with another couple and ordered about 8 items to share. We especially enjoyed the brussel sprouts, the beet salad, the scallops, the tuna, the Kobe sliders and we each had yummy dessert which we all shared. The Apple Crips was the best we ever had and I really enjoyed the warm bread pudding as well!
