3 salad entree is a value(@$13) and large enough for 2 people to share...which we did. We chose 2 shrimp salads, 1 chicken salad...quality breads served. Good wine selection. On a nice day, sit outside for a bistro experience. Perfect presentation of entree...delightful. Then, wonder around and shop Southern Season, gourmet store.

The food at Weathervane is
The food at Weathervane is consistently well prepared and interesting. Most recently I had a chicken bruschetta sandwich that was delicious. The grilled chicken was cooked perfectly. It was served on a chewy (in a good way!) roll topped with pesto and a delicious mix of finely chopped tomato and onion with what I would guess was a very nice balsamic vinegar. Great melding of flavors. Friends also enjoyed their choices.
I should note that I never rate a sandwich type lunch as 5 stars - it just doesn't rise to the complexity of a full dinner, but Weathervane produces a top of the line lunch when compared to any other restaurant offering similar options.
One last thing - always make a reservation! Ask for a banquette table.

a late breakfast
We went at 10:30 thinking we could get a late breakfast, the lunch menu was out, but they did allow us to order breakfast items, and they were delicious.

We loved the menu! Small but
We loved the menu! Small but wonderful. We had a party of four and each dish was delicious. We were very happy with the food. Our server was not very knowledgeable, but perhaps she was new. We highly recommend The WeatherVane!

As usual, the Weathervane had it all. Good food at reasonable prices, exceptional service, and a relaxed atmosphere. There is no better brunch in the Triangle.

Brunch was a great
We found the Brunch to be a great treat. My wife who is GF and SoyFree asked questions which were answered easily after consultation with the chef. ( They do have a GF menu ) The meal was on the table unusually fast, considering the number of customers. The food was tasty and well seasoned. My wife had the shrimp and grits, which was prepared with a character which I had not seen previously; however, was great. I had eggs Benedict which was also great and what I had expected.
We are putting the Weathervane on our "must stop" when in Chapel Hill

a another great brunch
I've been here 3 times for brunch now and had something different each time. All three meals have been fantastic. The pimento cheese balls with hot pepper jelly are no longer optional.

We consistently have both
We consistently have both a good meal and a great time at Weathervane. Their outdoor seating space is one of the best in the area.
8/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
The staff are professional and courteous, and the food is very good. We recommend the French Toast and the Eggs Benedict.

Good for Lunch and Old Folks
I always take my elderly parents here when I am in Chapel Hill as it is near their center and the place is very accommodating for people with wheelchairs. The food is very good and well priced for the quality. Not the best foodie food in Chapel Hill, but very respectable.

I chose the Weathervane for
I chose the Weathervane for the tone it sets. Casual but classy. Great food, good atmosphere, exceptional service. It met or exceeded my expectations.

Best in Chapel Hill
Ate at Weathervane on our first night of a weekend break in the Ralegh-Durahm area. Choose the place because we read about it in several visitor's guides. It's located inside a mall and is attached to A Southern Season gourmet food shop (this was a little surprising). However, they have a lovely outside terrace and we dined there. Overall, the food was outstanding. We started with fried pimento cheese (yum) and then had rib tips over mac& cheese and a steak. The food was cooked perfectly and made southern tradition inventive and fresh. Service was attentive and friendly. To boot, the restaurant was the ONLY restaurant on TopTable to actually read and honor my 'special request' section -- for that they get 5 stars!

Great southern experience
Food was great and so was the atmosphere. Great place to take friends for a southern experience.

As always, a wonderful brunch
Ever since the 501 Diner closed, we have been coming to the Weathervane regularly for weekend brunch. And we are never disappointed.

They said they had not received
They said they had not received my reservation. Despite this they were able to seat a party of 7 relatively quickly.
9/3/2013 12:00:00 AM
Have dined at Weathervane every time I make a shopping trip to A Southern Season. It never disappoints. The food is fresh, expertly prepared and presented. So many of their regular menu items are so good it is hard to decide which to get each time I go...such as the chicken salad, the shrimp salad, fried green tomato sandwich and the butternut squash soup. Do go as you will be very happy you did!

Amazing food, great service
Our first visit to Weathervane was fantastic. We'll be back!

Exceptional, enthusiastic service
We always enjoy our trips to the Weathervane. We were very impressed by our server, who gave excellent descriptions of menu items and acted quickly on every request we had. Our water glasses were never empty and he stopped by often to see how we were doing and to ask if he could get anything else for us. The food was delicious, and their menu offers tasty dishes you can't find anywhere else. If you want extraordinary food and service, The Weathervane is the place!

Never fails to please
Food is consistently good here and a great place to bring out-of-town guests to.
9/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
Reliable food and fast service
Weathervane provides reliably good food with excellent fast service. It is our favorite place to go before attending plays at Playmakers because we know we will always finish in time.

$5 pancake breakfast--Wow!
Weathervane is a favorite lunch spot of mine primarily because of the pear/argula/fig spread sandwich which I always order. With a side of sweet potato fries, it is a fabulous lunch. Not inexpensive ($12), but good for a treat. Weathervane is a nice place to visit with friends, esp if you choose a table upstairs.I have only been there twice for breakfast. Once for the traditional brunch, which was delicious, and last week for their special $5 pancake breakfast. I almost couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the sign advertising it. And kids under 6 are apparently free. Anyway, I had two large blueberry pancakes and two strips of bacon for $5. It was amazingly good. Very quiet at 7:30 AM on Saturday morning. Don't pass this up!
9/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great food and great service. The butternut squash soup is the best anywhere. The patio seating makes for the perfect lunch experience.
9/30/2013 12:00:00 AM
We've been to the Weathervane several times and I always find the menu interesting, the food of high quality and thewine list good. IT is also great if you're going to a UNC evening event because you can go early and the kitchen and service are efficient without sacrificing the quality of the experience. The addition of small plates to the menu is a plus.
10/3/2013 12:00:00 AM
A very nice place to eat.
The food is good, the outdoor seating is very pleasant, our server is AWESOME!!

Early :dinner gem
Where else in Chapel Hill could two seniors have a light Sunday dinner with wine in a charming setting
10/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
Our lunch on a busy Friday was a rare meeting with Arizona cousins. Our reunion occupied our booth longer than normal, but not once did the waitstaff try to rush us - so very considerate of the special occasion!
10/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
On our way to Asheville we went out of our way to have brunch and show our overseas company southern hospitality. Food was amazing as usual but we we're put in the back dining room with our reservation it's not at all cozy. Next time I make a reservation I will call and request arable in a different dining room.
10/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
Always a hit
We took our son here for dinner and he experienced his first Shrimp and Grits. He loved it. The Sweet Tea Salmon lived up to my recollection of it the last time we dined at the Weathervane - outstanding. And I actually saved room for dessert and had the peach fritters - YUMM-O!! We eat out fairly often and I continue to think the Weathervane has some of the best food in the Triangle. Love it!

Have eaten at Weathervane many times over the years. The food is always outstanding, with a wide variety of well-crafted dishes to select from. The kids all love to select items from the adult menu, and desserts are outstanding.

Had a lovely brunch and time with 12 year old grand daughter.

Weathervane in Chapel Hill is our family favorite place to meet "half way" between Greensboro and Raleigh! The service is excellent and the food = delish!! Many choices for brunch or lunch, wine or coffee or tea makes it just perfect for our family .
Prices are satisfactory as well.

Favorite Lunch in Chapel Hill
I travel a great deal for my work and Weathervane is always one of my favorite spots for a meal. Nothing fancy or over the top, just great consistent meals and excellent service. The Weathervane BLT at lunch is the best!

What a combo
Our server was Vladimir, a self-described "Communist." In addition to having a meal of flavorful, unusual entrees, Vladimir made it a memorable experience. The food is outstanding, the service exceptional. What a combination!

Nice Weekend Brunch
Enjoyed meeting a friend for brunch Saturday. We both live in different cities on opposite sides of Chapel Hill, so it is a great place to have a nice meal, drink and to catch up! Menu has a wonderful variety of choices. Restaurant can be noisy at times-some soundproofing might be an asset. I like being able to make a reservation ahead of time. Thanks!
11/15/2013 4:00:00 PM
Always great foods but noises!
Had a great birthday celebration with a good friend, but it was so loud hard to hear each other at times.
However they have the best butternut squash soup in town, along with a salad, it's terrific.

We loved our Sunday brunch
We loved our Sunday brunch with good friends. We are from out of state but will definitely return when we come back to Chapel Hill. A great experience for our party of four. Thanks!
11/23/2013 4:00:00 PM
I love Weathervane - when you go and it isn't crowded (off hours) - two people can sink into those huge booths and have wonderful food, private conversation. Also, if it is a 'working meal' - ask for upstairs and you can stay up there and not bother anyone working on your laptop (and not be bothered, too).
Fried green tomatoes are the best! Everyone loves the food here.
One suggestion for them: Get a couple of vegan options, please.
11/23/2013 4:00:00 PM
Excellent as usual
Weathervane is one of our "go to" places. The food, wine and service are always very good. The ambiance is laid back and friendly.
11/28/2013 4:00:00 PM
Great food and good price
Granted we probably went to the Weathervane on an unusually quiet evening - Holiday weekend after the football game. But it was quiet and ambience was very pleasant. As a party of 5, we decided to order mostly small plates and a couple of appetizers, as well as share a couple of desserts. All of our dishes were excellent; nothing was left! One couple split the pork chop, which was moist and delicious.
We felt the prices were very reasonable for a nice restaurant and food of this caliber. We would recommend it highly.
11/29/2013 4:00:00 PM
Southern style menu, tends to traditional, food well prepared, service excellent, very clean and neat. Don't go here for adventuresome or exceptional dishes.

Great food- service was too slow which has been a problem in the past.
