Out of the way gem
We loved everything about this converted neighborhood house. The staff was friendly and knowledgable without being in our way. The food was varied and interesting and perfectly prepared. The desserts were out of this world. A perfect excursion on the street car from Downtown.

Duck was great, as was the Shrimp K___. Really nice, different wine list which is very reasonable. We loved the claret. And...the outside patio was fabulous. Have to go back soon.

Enjoyable dinner, fantastic service
My dinner companion and I had, between us, artichoke red pepper cheesecake, bacon wrapped scallops on wilted greens, mushroom risotto, chicken, a wonderful filet. We shared a creme brûlée for dessert. It was all very lovely with a nice bottle of Malbec to top it all off.

This was my fifth or sixth
This was my fifth or sixth visit there and I can honestly say that the food, which is always good, is better than ever. The use of locavore gems and thoughtful wine choices, by the waitress no less, made the meal memorable. The ambiance is great. When a rather large party sat next to us, the volume reached a rather high level, but that's a trade off I'm willing to make for an intimate bistro experience.
On a negative note, I have to say, that I've never been greeted enthusiastically when entering this restaurant (I bathe regularly and wear deodorant and cologne), and sometimes feel not particularly welcome there. This is something management can address easily and should.

This was our first visit to
This was our first visit to Mat and Naddie's and we could not have enjoyed ourselves more. Our waiter was fantastic and extremely helpful with assisting us select our entrees, and I thought the wine and liquor selection was very impressive for a smaller restaurant. I ordered the Steen’s Cane Syrup Lacquered Duck, and I'll simply say that it was hands down one of the best meals I have ever had.We will definitely be going back!

The place was adorable, especially walking in. The ambience was very nice, authentic New Orleans. The food was very good. The chicken dish, dont remember the name was outstanding and the maytag blue cheese salad and beet salad was great.

A night out
Mat & Naddie's is one of my favorite restaurants in the City. Creative menu, cool groove and good wines are the fare.

Great food, wonderful place for conversation, delightful ambience in old house.

Great neighborhood gem!
Everything about this friendly neighborhood restaurant is fantastic. The food is thoughtful and unique, and always spot on – stuff I'd never think to or easily be able to make at home. The service is top-notch, very knowledgeable but not stuffy.
We sat outside on the patio (which is great), I've never sat inside (by choice) because it's always been beautiful weather when I go.
I highly recommend.

Dinner club - party of 6
Our experience was fabulous including our server, our cocktails, our appetizers, entrees and desserts. The food was full of fresh vegetables and herbs and tended to be on the lighter side with great flavors. We would definitely come back and the vegetable and herb gardens in the front of the restaurant are fabulous!

The food and service were
The food and service were very good! We were sitting next to the outside catering truck and the staff there were very noisy. The server told us that it "added to the ambience". But, when we sat down, we were the only people there and could have been placed a little farther from the noise. Aside from that, I would go back in a heartbeat.

Amazing food, several locally grown/caught dishes, great service.

Staff was very welcoming and accommodating. Opening drinks were excellent as was the salads, dessert and entrees.

So much fun!
A funky neighborhood restaurant with white tablecloths (covered with white butcher paper). Great food. Try the savory cheesecake!

Our waitress was very attentive and helpful. The food was excellent.

As always our dining experience at Mat and Naddie's was excellent. It is such an unexpected funky gem by the river. We ate outside on the back wooden deck and enjoyed the bright art and natural pots of flowers and herbs that decorate the space. I enjoyed the Smoked Shiitake Mushrooms and Brown Jasmine-Black Sesame Lunar Rice Cakes that are served in a Thai red curry stew, with squash and sweet pepper ragoût and garlic . ( It is a vegan option , but I think anyone would love this savory dish) My husband had the steak and raved about it. Truly one of my favorite restaurants in the city. If you love simple , creative food that is based on local offerings served in low key atmosphere filled with locals and has a cool vibe - this is your place.

Review of Matt & NADDIE
The food and service were excellent. What was a nightmare was trying to make the reservation via Open Table. It took me 6 tries and lasted a half hour to finally get it right. The reservation kept getting the date wrong and then kept getting the number of people wrong. I would definitely tell people to stay away from Open Table reservation because it is absolutely not user friendly.

We tried their light-fare summer menu, and everything was delicious!

Recommended by friends
My wife and I ate here on a date night recently, at the suggestion of friends. Very pleasant surprise. Boutique charm, excellent food (steak for me, gulf fish for my wife), impressive but accessible wine list and a killer dessert (blueberry peach cobbler a la mode). Service was crisp and friendly. Highly recommend it.

Excellent overall experience.
Excellent overall experience. Off the Lite Summer Menu, I had salad w/ butter lettuce, blueberries & shredded non-domestic cheese, slices of duck breast sided w/ celiac slaw & a tomato quiche & followed w/ dessert of cinnamon ice cream w/ peach compote & biscotti. Finished w/ coffee & St Remy Calif brandy. My wife had al a carte starter of slightly spicy toasted pecans, beef filet in a wine sauce w/ wilted chard & dessert of blueberry & peach cobbler. We had a Spanish red wine with low tannins that complemented the duck & filet. We've been to M & N's numerous times over the yrs. It is one of our local favorites. Consistent in the quality of food & service. We assuredly will return soon.

Top New Orleans Restaurant
I've been to Commander's and Two Sisters repeatedly. Then I tried Mat and Naddie's. Now when I am only in New Orleans long enough for one meal, I go to Mat and Naddie's. I travel the country continuously. I don't know a better restaurant in The Southeast. The setting is a typical little home. The service is welcoming, accommodating and accurate. The food is authentic, creative and fresh.

Sun-dried Tomato cheese cake
Sun-dried Tomato cheese cake appetizer and the fried oyster salad are my favorite.

one of my favorite places
tried the cheesecake appetizer offered that day-awesome, had the 3 course special-the scallop entree was delicious and the scallops were cooked just as they should be, the cinnamon ice cream was good but not over the top

Off the beaten path to a delight!
Fresh, flavorful approach with some unique spins on the menu. Fun for a couple and festive for a group.

Don't let the outside fool you...worth the stop! Could have the potential to get very noisy if it is full or a large table is seated. Outside dinning is an option. Good cocktails and nice menu choices.

Sometimes the little local places are the best, we were lucky to find this when all the famous places were all booked. The redfish was the freshest and most delicious, simple and perfectly cooked.
10/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
My husband and I celebrated his birthday on Tuesday night. The restaurant was empty so we had exceptional service and attention. The food was excellent.THe beef barley soup was rich and the grilled redfish with beurre blanc sauce with grapefruit was amazing. the sauce had a tangy taste with a hint of the grapefruit citrus. My husbands filet was cooked to perfection and very tender. The sauce was excellent. They surprised him with a piece of chocolate cake with was rich with dark chocolate and a raspberry sauce.

One of My All Time Favorites
Love this hidden gem by the river . The funky yet classy atmosphere paired with delicious food makes it my date place go to. If the weather is nice I love sitting on the wooden deck outside . My husband is a meat eater and I am a vegetarian. They accommodate both of our needs with ease and innovative offerings.

This farm-to-table-esque cuisine features off the beaten path eccentric dishes. The obscure options are diverse in flavor and size--and they are sure to provide a dish for even the most limited diners, vegans. My friend and I let our waitress choose dessert for us. I was pleasantly surprised to have appreciated both the creme brûlée and lemon tart despite the lack of chocolate (which I usually never go without in a dessert). It is definitely not the type of place to go to with unadventurous, picky diners; but, for those who are not afraid to put their taste buds to the test Mat & Naddies should be next on the list!

Nice night out with old friends
We had a lovely dinner at Mat and Naddies. Our waitress was very good, only forgot a minor request when the place filled up. The food was delicious although our rib eyes were a little on the thin side. I would prefer a thicker but smaller cut rather then larger and thinner. Just a personal preference. It was a very nice experience overall but a word about the taxi service to get there. They do not seem to know where the place is, we passed it and ended up driving through a kind of sketchy part of town. Ask the restaurant for detailed explanation to the cabbie before you go if by taxi.

mat and naddies is a gem!
We went to Mat and Naddies with our Tulane student on friday night. She has driven by there several times and has wanted to try it. Well lucky us! It was superb! The farm to table concept is what I look for as well as an intriguing menu. We had the pate -- delicious, salad and entrees: lamb meatballs reminded me of something my Armenian grandmother used to make -- delicious! Others in our party had the red fish...to die for, and the lamb cooked to perfection and tasty. Desserts are wonderful -- try the lemon icebox pie! And the bread pudding. The service here is impeccable. Our waiter was knowledgable and attentive his reccomendations were right on!
We will definitely go back again and again!

We had a delicious meal here last week. The food was excellent and the service was great!!! Wait staff was knowledgeable, and attentive without being overbearing. I took my family who was in from out of town. We ate there in April and again recently. They loved it both times. The owner has a great wine list and is really friendly. Also the restaurant has a cool local neighborhood feel, so out of towners feel like they're discovering a hidden NOLA spot. I will be back:-) Thanks for a great dinner...Cheers!

Love the food, just tiny bit loud.
I went to Matt and Naddie's for dinner while out of town for business. A coworker and I went for dinner. The food was terrific IMHO. I had a butter soft filet and my friend had a Gruyere and Mushroom roulade (which to a redneck is like a jelly roll). I loved both mine and hers but hers was a little better than mine because of the wonderful earthy flavor of the porcini mushrooms. I would definitely come back to M&N's if I am back in town. The only drawback for me was it was a little load. It is a smallish dining room in what appears to be an old house. There were hard surfaces galore so lots of sound bouncing off everything. I can overlook that because the food was so good. I would not take someone there to propose, might not hear you.

It was a first for me to have the incredible banana appetizer or ever have bananas served in a similar way, they were just fabulous. And the cheesecake just as good.Everything about the food was 1st class. And the ending was some of the best unique bread pudding I've ever tasted.

Matt and Naddie's never fails to provide a perfectly lovely evening--this time just for two of us. I had the "light" summer menu--and was so pleased with the flavor profiles--blueberries in the salad, just enough duck breast, enough dessert to share. And the wine recommendation was great (Nero d'vaola--Salice Salentino). My friend had heartier fare the lamb slider and the grouper. Service is attentive but not hovery. Perfect.
