The food was very good. We had the Salmon Risotto and the Sesame Ahi Tuna - both were excellent. The tuna was seared perfectly. The mussels were also very good. The service was excellent. We were there late on a weekday so it was pretty quiet. The restaurant in at the base of a large apartment building. I felt as if I was dining in a hotel restaurant. Overall we had a nice time and I would try it again.

The owner chef greeted our table of 6. My friends had not been there before so it was quite welcoming. The service was outstanding! The staff was quite accommodating and took time to answer all questions - very knowledgeable. The tangines were quite popular with all tables, not just ours. They added a lovley scent to the air. Two of my friends ordered the vegetable tangine and said the variety of flavors was amazing (they are not vegetarians either). We plan to return.

Faces is a high end dining
The five course menu was a rich and delicious dining treat. OUr server was well informed, friendly and helpful. having the chef come to our table and describe the courses was amazing and made me fell like I was on Top Chef! What a cool night.

After several years of scouring for any remnants of the formerly great dining scene in downtown St Paul -- going back more than a decade after which it was ruined by the business climate created by the post-Norm Coleman mayors -- I find this. Yes, the St Paul, Pazzaluna, Kincaids, etc are nice, but outside of Heartland, the east side needs a new gem, and this is it. Clearly, they have had growing pains. But any restaurant that wants to attract customers in this part of town (that feels often like East Germany in the 1960s -- and that's during the DAY) has to do it a bit better than most. Mr Fhima deserves our attention. The food was way beyond my expectations and service was outstanding. Parking? Talk to the mayor.

Great food. Service was just OK.
We had a nice time at Faces. The food was really good. Our server was very nice but the service was a bit slow. They set the wine bucket far enough away from our table that the expectation was that the server would be stopping by to keep the glasses filled. I think he filled our glasses once and I ended up getting out of my seat a couple of times to get wine for my wife and I. The chef was speaking to a group of people as we were leaving and he made it a point to stop us and ask how our meal was. Again, the food was great. The service was not bad, but for a $100 meal, I expected a little better. I think it is probably worth at least one more try.

The reviews for this restaurant
The reviews for this restaurant made me hope for a lot. I wanted to be more impressed with the food. The presentation was great, but I found it falling short of having the associated flavor and texture wow factor. I had the Tagine seafood dish, and although being rich in different spices, just did not find it a culinary adventure. Would I try the restaurant again - Yes, but I would opt for something more hearty where the Moroccan spices get to shine more.

We had a great time sharing
We had a great time sharing excellent food and visiting with friends. The drawback was being seated by the atrium which had a fashion show event. We frequently had models standing for extended periods very close to our table and noise that overflowed from event. Would definitely sit somewhere else next time.

Even though we had an early evening reservation, out table was located near the walk area that service staff used and they were hurrying by constantly - the waiters were managing in a rush and service delay matter. Waiter was friendly and apologetic about being short staffed.

We're new to Mears Park, and were delighted to discover Faces. The setting right across from the park provides entertainment value. The night we were there, we witnessed a giant black "dog" (from the Black Dog Cafe) marching through the park, attracting a crowd. The service was very friendly and efficient; our waiter added fresh asparagas to my meal gratis when I asked him if the dish included it. The food was very carefully prepared, fully seasoned with sufficient but reasonable portions. All in all, a relaxing time.

Mother's Day Brunch
I really like this restaurant. We were 2 adults and 3 children. The buffet had some good and medicore offerings. The chicken was fantastic. The ham was dry. The hashbrowns were okay and the bacon overcooked. We ordered French toast from the kitchen and it was wonderful. The prime rib was cooked to order, tasty, but a bit skimpy on the porttion The dessert offerings were simply amazing. The best chocolate covered straberries ever. Cream puffs and eclairs were excellent. Assorted truffles were a taste sensation.

The chef was engaging; the Chloe, the wait staff was warm, friendly, but not over bearing; and the food was amazing!

Great food and ambiance!
My wife and I ventured across the river to visit Faces last Saturday evening since we had heard some good things about the restaurant and the owner, David Fhima. We are glad we did! From the moment we arrived, we enjoyed the ambiance of the place. The wine bar and restaurant styling is quite appealing. The tables are spaced comfortably so that you don't feel crowded. The staff is charming. The food was tremendous. The wine list contained some very nice wines that were priced right. My wife had the Pil Pil Tangine and I had the Paella Valencia. We enjoyed tastes that were absolutely delightful. We capped off the evening with some wonderful desserts. Thank you for a wonderful evening! We will definitely be back.

FACES was perfect for our family, prior to graduation at Roy Wilkins. It was quiet because we had an early dinner. Their food is prepared by a wonderful chef, the food is local/organic/fresh. It worked perfectly for the special diet requests that we had. The paella was amazing, so was the salad with asian tuna salad on it. The greens were so wonderful and the dressing could not have been better. The staff treated our graduate with special attention and she was loving it!
We will be back for other special occasions or just for the treat of eating such amazing food!

While we have some wonderful restaurants in Minnesota, not all of them stand out as an experience that consistently provides inviting and friendly service, and a flavorful menu to choose from. This is the kind of restaurant that you keep coming back to and bringing others to because of what it has to offer.

Fabulous Food at Faces
My boyfriend and I are doing a 26 month restaurant adventure January 2013 - February 2015 A-Z...trying a new (to us) restaurant every month...this month was the letter F...Faces on Mears Park did not disappoint on our continuing restaurant quest. We just ate a small plate - the cold cuts, olives, and cheese plate for two. The food was delicious and the cocktails were very good. I love the fact that more and more restaurants are offering bleu cheese stuffed olives for martinis - Faces included. Lori Fhima was very welcoming and David Fhima visited restaurant guests, ourselves as well. We will definitely return to Faces and my little Facebook restaurant review gave Faces on Mears Park an A+.

Best table to enjoy JazzFest
We had such a great evening at the patio at Faces enjoying the jazz fest and sipping margaritas. We started with a pizza and mussels for appetizer. They were both delicious. I have to say, I would come back just for the mussels. It was in a spicy smokey tomato broth. I never miss the tangine, this is where you go to it. The seafood tagine is my favorite. We ended the evening with the creme brulee and flourless chocolate torte listening to smooth soulful jazz- what can I say- Perfection!

My husband and I had a four-course sampler menu and we enjoyed it very much. They even made some changes because my husband was allergic to a couple of the ingredients on two courses. The chef personally delivered and explained the courses. My favorite course was the large scallop perfectly prepared with mushrooms and a lovely sauce. We looked at the regular menu and many of the courses had unique combinations of flavors, especially favoring Mediterranean and Moroccan cuisine. We hope to return to try some of these dishes.

We ordered the bbq chicken wings, monte cristo chicken sandwich, the grassfed burger, and the myshroom risotto-ALL were excelent. Very fresh all were organic. The owner gave us each a chocolate truffle to try on the way out-they were sooo good! Everyonewas friendly too.

Must love food!
We had the chefs four course meal with wine tasting. This is my second time trying this. Different meals each time and fantastic both times. Very flavorful, interesting and oh so delicious. The Morroccan "cigar" was unbelievably tasty and it's just shaped like a cigar with 32 spices in the meat. Wow! We went for our anniversary and will be back!

Organic with a Moroccan Flair
My husband and I went here for my birthday-as we wanted something closer to home. This restaurant is located right across from Mears Park, so the setting itself is already beautiful to look at. My husband had the Paella Velencia-full of rich and bold flavors with tomatoes, green/red bell pepers, and curry. I had the Lamb Tagine, an almost stew with raisins, cabbage, and more on the sweeter side but not "syrupy" -I would recommend the cous-cous that came as a "side dish" be poured into the plate to soak up all the goodness it has to offer. We ended the night with Tiramisu which was elegant and rich. This place is awesome especially knowing that all ingredients is organic, natural and from local farms.

Food with integrity cooked....
...expertly. Organic, locally grow, grass fed beef and a phenomenal wine list (much of it organic) make this a true gem in St Paul. If the city would get off its behind and promote its downtown scene (like stop taxing and regulating businesses into the ground), places like this would be packed everyday and night. I encourage anyone to dine here (and vote GOP next mayoral election).

The Best Tagine!
If you purchased the tagine dinner special that was being offered through Living Social, well you made the best decision. You are in for a real treat. Faces makes the best in town. Tagine is a type of Moroccan stew named after the earthenware pot that it is cooked in. You have the choice of vegetarian, lamb, pil-pil (shrimp or lobster) and seafood. The seafood is my favorite. Faces uses local and sustainable organic ingredients. A variety of fresh catch fish is seasoned in cilantro, paprika, lemon and cayenne in a tomato cumin spicy broth and a medley or root vegetables. If you've never tried the tagine, I highly recommend this.

Upscale, not uppity
Unique choices, American with Moroccan emphasis. Loved the location, vibe and food. The chef is the owner and he clearly takes pride in putting out flavorful, upscale food, but far from fussy. I loved that his food is locally sourced and organic. Can't wait to return....particularly for the Pecan Tarte.

A very special four-course meal
We have gone to Faces quite a few times in the past and recently purchased a Living Social deal for a four-course Moroccan dinner with wine pairing. The food was amazing, with exciting favors, presentation and the wine parings spot on complements to the courses. And as always one of the best desserts in town which was served with a Moroccan mint and honey tea? We hope to do this again soon.

Class and Creativity
Faces is a gem brought to St. Paul by the great chef David Fhima. His creativity with an internationally flavored menu is magnificent. The service was excellent from start to finish. We highly recommend Faces Mears Park. Oh by the way....save room for an amazing variety of fabulous desserts.

An outstanding Moroccan infused meal on a Sunday night that was delicious! Chef David came to the table prior to the meal and spoke with my wife in French. It was our first time at the restaurant so he recommended a house specialty - the Seafood tangine and Lamb Tagine. Authentic, yet original and a true dining experience. Highly recommended and uniquely personal.

Great food and outstanding service:
We were greeted right from the start. Our server was great with his knowledge and we were not bothered with too many visits throughout the four course Moroccan meal. He even brought out the the Chef for the first two meals. My girlfriend loved her dinner date. So, what else could I ask for?

Outstanding Saturday Night!
A hidden gem in the Twin Cities!!! We loved everything about our Saturday night dinner here. We were a group of four and we each loved our entrees - I highly recommend having a tagine. You can tell the ingredients are fresh and that a lot of time is put into each dish. Plus, Chef David Fhima makes many appearances in the dining room and loves talking with you about the food - so fun! Our server was very attentive and DO NOT MISS DESSERT! They make incredible desserts in-house, so good.

We only found this restaurant because we were late to the game making reservations for the night of the Elton John concert. I am so happy they had a table open because we loved it. I had only heard of tangine and my husband said it was delicious. I enjoyed the sea bass with sweet peas and saffron risotto Milanese and wanted to lick the plate. The setting is really great and kind of hidden away.

Great service, ambience and food
The service was great. A mistake was made on our order, but we were offered a side salad and a free glass of wine.
The food was very tasty, although price was a little high for the quantity of food.
The ambiance was excellent and the view of Mears Park with the lights for the holiday were beautiful.

A Very Nice Evening
Dined with my wife and adult kids for a holiday outing. Everyone's meal was very good and quite enjoyable. A brief visit from David Fhima, Exec Chef, was a very nice personal touch. His enthusiasm for the fresh, organic and local ingredients used here, along with the genuine interest on whether we enjoyed our meals made a nice evening just a little nicer.
