Love Bourbon Steak
I have always enjoyed dining at any Michael Mina restaurant and particularly loved to dine at XIV regularly before it closed. Bourbon Steak is my partner's favorite restaurant in the Bay Area so we dine here whenever we are in the city. The food, service, and atmosphere have remained consistently wonderful with each visit. And the bartending staff makes a great Moscow Mule, served properly in a copper cup, which is difficult to find at most dining establishments of this calibre. As long as Bourbon Steak exists, I know we will have at least one pleasurable dining experience whilst in San Francisco.

Great Steak - perfect service
We had been traveling for 2 weeks and we were so tired we needed a good steak to perk us up. A whole bunch of delicious french fries were delivered with 3 different dipping sauces - so much more interesting than bread. The dinners were wonderful, but the steak tartare had a little too much seasoning for me - I like my raw steak closer to raw tasting, but that's my preference. My husband ordered the Flat Iron steak and he loved it! Cocktails were interesting and good - we would go back if we lived in the area.

Great staff performance!
The staff in the kitchen as well as in service does great work. The food was excellent and very nicely presented. The service staff was very friendly and hat a great knowledge of food and wines.

This is are third time here' and I love this place. The service is superb, the food is great. You have to have the macaroni and cheese! Haven't had a bad moment in this place. Highly recommend.

Classic ambiance, delicious food!
The food is exceptional! Our steaks were prepared perfectly and the prix fix menu was terrific. My husband adored the ahi appetizer and we both loved the Mina signature root beer float (with cookies on the side!) as well as the decadent beignets. Yum!!

Conveniently located in our hotel and the finale to a week in Napa led us to select this restaurant
for dinner and celebrating our guests 50th anniversary. Upon arrival, a preordered bottle
of decanted wine, a staff signed greeting card for our guests and complimentary champagne was
at our table and served as a splendid beginning for our evening.
The service was impeccable and the dinner was awesome! Entrées varied from scallops to fine cuts
of beef and each was a pleasing taste experience.
It is rare to dine when you have no expectations and the restaurant and staff "Over Perform" to this degree.
Bourbon Steak will be recommended to friends and remembered for future visits to San Francisco.

This place is great. the 3-fry amuse is killer, what a neat idea, and who doesn't like duck-fat fries?
Halibut was great, with whatever mystery chutney sauce served table-side; can't miss.
Wine service is stellar - Daniel is a true professional.

What an Evening!
All of the superlatives from previous reviews clearly matched our experience. The service was attentive but not overbearing, the food was amazingly flavorful and the wine - wow. The couple we were dining with was celebrating a wedding anniversary and the staff treated them (and us!) like gold. Highly recommend.

The Rib-Eye is super ! side dish is delicious especially the Yukon Gold puree potato,also the spinach is cook just right.The atmosphere is really good.The service is well informed about the menu.Bravo MIchael !!

Great food even for non-steak lover
My husband LOVES steak and I don't eat red meat. But we both had a delicious meal at Bourbon Steak. Starting with the house fries with the 3 different dips. My husband devoured that thing like nobody's business.
Then the entrees came and I just about died with joy over mine. I ordered the dumplings with mushroom broth. OMG!! OMG!!! Sipping the broth was one of those "I need a moment" moments. The umami flavor hits you in the face and you beg for more. Yum!
My husband had the aged steak. I was too busy OMG-ing over my dish but I think he "needed a moment" also. Overall, Michael Mina really lived up to his name.

Fabulous meal at the Bourbon Steak
We had our 27th anniversary dinner last Friday at the Bourbon Steak. To start we were presented with three kind of french fries with some delicious dips. I had the salmon as my entree and my husband and son had steaks. My salmon was delicious as were their steaks. For dessert we had the black forest cake in the jar, chocolate bark, taffy and a cashew crunch. The black forest cake was the highlight of the meal for me. I absolutely loved it!!!! It is expensive but we did splurge since it was a special event. I would definitely go back.

Service gaff on meal delivery.
Two entrees were "lost" in the kitchen out of six. Surprising for such a high caliber restaurant. The recovery attempt was also fumbled as the server overlooked one of the entree-less diners. Service was excellent otherwise.

I have been to this place before and the food has always been fabulous. this time around I went with the scallops and they were just ok. the tuna tartar was to die for as usual!

The entire staff, from host
The entire staff, from host to bartender to waiter, were all very attentive and welcoming. My drink was a little weak but not weak enough to ask the bartender to remake it. We started with a complimentary pairing of fries and dips. Our steak was perfectly medium rare, tender and lightly seasoned. Our scallops were also perfectly made with a delicious sauce.

We were a party of eight and without exception, all of us felt it was one of the best meals we had ever eaten. Outstanding from beginning to end. Attentive service made it even more special. The dessert trolly shouldn't be missed! Tableside s'mores at a fine dining restaurant had us talking for a long time.

superb service, ultra tender steaks
service outstanding and friendly, quite client friendly. Steaks cooked in herb butter are superb, creamy, dreamy, ultra tender, luxuriously marbled. Scallops tender as well. Beet salad very fresh, but disappointing because minimal amount of burrata . Ahi tuna tartar also very fresh from the sea, mixed tableside, with sesame oil too!. Strawberry dessert with pesto cream creative. Mac n cheese not truffle enough, more basic. Overall, positive memorable dinner with Michelin level service. Pricey, so make it a special occassion, esp since the wine list is expensive, though one of the finest is America..

A very good steak dinner
This is a good find if you are looking for steak in SF. It is close to the touristy area of Union Square (which is good or bad, depending on your perspective). But it remains classy. The steaks were very good, and try the beet salad. The only strange thing was that we went through two "introductory" waiters before our "real" server showed up, so it took three tries to order a round of drinks. But all in all, a good choice.

Once again, perfect
This was my second occasion to have dinner at Bourbon Steak in San Francisco. Once again, the food was outstanding. The standouts were the Gnudi appetizers and the beignets for dessert. And perhaps the best part of the dinner was the bottle of C-Beck Cabernet with the meal. Wow. Great wine and great value. Service, as always, was amazing. Perfect balance of attention while letting us just enjoy our dinner. I can't wait to return to Bourbon Steak in any of their locations. It is a top notch restaurant that deserves the kudos it receives.

Non-Steak at a steak house
Gourmet fries were delivered complimentary to our table and the were amazing! Each combination of flavored fries (3) and dipping sauces (3) provide endless combinations of exploding flavors for your taste buds.
Chief prepared Ahi Tuna table side was a treat to enjoy.
For our entrees we ordered Quail and the Hanger Steak.
All-in-all, terrific meal service and experience for both of us.
Difficult to enjoy a romantic dinner for two as the table was unusually long and the room was rather noisy.

Something new in an old package
The St. Francis hotel is one of the "Grand Dames" of San Francisco. Bourbon Steak is a wonderful restaurant! We were surprised with an assortment of three types of french fries and dip as an appetizer. They were great. The food was delicious and service, perfect. My only small complaint is that I had to ask for their Pre Fix dinner menu. That is a wonderful combination and selection. The beighnets for dessert were delicious. We would go back!

Amazing Food and Service
Overall this was one of my best service experiences in a long time. The wait staff was bery knowledgeable and attentive. The food came right off the grill to our table. The Snake River steak was amazing and melted in your mouth. For 2 people I would recommend only one side dish and the Black Truffle Mac N Cheese is it. We had the chilled watermelon soup and Tuna Tartare for appetizers and they were amaxing! We also had the beignets and signature root beer float...Yummy. It is a small restaurant but the majority of the tables were filled. Great special occsion restaurant and be ready to spend some money, but well worth it. We brought our own wine. Michael Mina really outdoes himself at his restaurants

Lobster Pot Pie to Die For!
My husband & I were on vacation in San Francisco & we ate at Bourbon Steak. It could not have been better! I had the Lobster Pot Pie which was amazing! Their specialty duck fat fries they bring out first were also spectacular! My husband had a New York strip that he ordered his favorite way, Pittsburgh Rare. He said is was fantastic. He also got the Whiskey Flight. They bring out a cart to the table and create different smokes in the 3 glasses before pouring in the 3 types of whiskey. It was very impressive, and he said they were delicious. We had great service as well. Everything was simply lovely. It was QUITE pricey, but that pot pie was worth every penny! Can't speak highly enough about our experience!

A Special Evening
I am a native San Franciscan and have been to many fine restaurants. Bourbon's is a cut above. I think what made it so wonderful for us was that the staff was experienced and very friendly.

We noted we were celebrating an anniversary dinner on OpenTable. The restaurant had a greeting card waiting for us at our table. We were treated like royalty. Superb Wagyu beef selections. All the dishes were fantastically prepared to perfection. Our dessert even had a special anniversary greeting!
A memorable evening indeed. We definitely we'll be back!

Pricey but worth it
Our food was absolutely fantastic. The presentation was amazing and the service was the type you would expect from a first class restaurant. The caesar salad and tuna tartare accompanied by the complimentary trio of french fries and unique dippers were a great start. Then the halibut entree came stuffed with crab was presented with creative artistic expression. For dessert we had the trio of sorbets. Strawberry, creme fraiche and plum. A great dinner and it was right in our hotel! Westin St. Francis in Union Square.

Food is fabulous
We dined there for my friends 29th Birthday. For the most part everything was delicious. I do not reccoment the Mac & cheese it was nothing spectacular. The Brussels sprouts on the other hand and the Filet were to die for. The only thing that ruined our experiene was our server. Everything else was great.

Casual but elegant and tasteful decor. Lots of sofa style seating. Great specialty cocktails. Wine by the glass poured at table so you can taste first. Steaks amazing! Lobster pot pie a must dish. And the frites in duck fat super light and tasty with 3 dipping sauces.
This was an anniversary dinner and a hand written note at table with best wishes from staff...nice touch.
This is expensive but worth for special occasion.

Perfect martinis, and two perfects steaks. The Japanese Kobe and Japanese-style Wagyu cuts are pricy but worth every penny. Don't miss the truffle mac and cheese.

Delicious! This was our second
Delicious! This was our second trip to Bourbon and it was just as amazing as our first.... Perfect for a date night, you can't go wrong with this choice! The fries that they bring you to start are perfect to munch on while perusing the menu and drink list. The short ribs for two and the black truffle mac and cheese are our go to and worth every bite!

We got a tableside whiskey flight, duck fat fries, lobster pot pie, an 18 ounce bone in rib eye, truffle Mac and cheese, and beignets, and everything was incredible. Best meal I've ever eaten. Well worth the price!

We had dinner recently at Bourbon Steak in San Francisco and came away very impressed with the food quality and presentation. The Lobster Pot Pie served table side was impressive and delicious. The scallops were excellent. I had the Miyazaki New York Strip steak, served in strips like sushi, and was blown away by the rich tenderness and taste. While it did taste like a strip steak, it melted in my mouth, gushing overwhelming richness! The American Wagyu-style equivalents I have had elsewhere are nothing like this. Bourbon Street's side dishes and desserts revealed further levels of "gastronomic bliss." Overall, an evening truly to remember...

DINED @ BOURBONSTEAK HOUSE ON SATURDAY NIGHT AND HAD A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE. MENU WAS IMPECCABLE AND PRESENTATION OF ALL COURSES WAS " WORK OF ART".

Bourbon Steak is now my "Go To" restaurant for great perfectly cooked steak. I have a couple of colleagues who visit from overseas every few months - and although we have tried other steak houses in SF (Harrison's, Mortons), we keep coming back to Bourbon Steak.

Food was excellent. Duck fat fries instead of bread is genius. Large selection of steaks. Steak was cooked perfect and all the sides were so good it was hard to pick a favorite. I would recommend making a reservation earlier than you were planning on eating. We sat about 20 minutes after our reservation time and then is was a long time before our service started. Great for a special occasion!

Great service and impressive meal
Very impressed with the staff and the meal was extraordinary. We frequent steakhouses monthly and although we didn't get steak this time the meal represented the chef's flexibility well. Ginger Ahi Tartar, Duck Fat Fries, Brussel Sprouts, Stuffed Quail and Halibut. We brought a friends Pino and the sommelier helped us with the tasting notes. Great time.

The atmosphere at Bourbon Steak makes you feel important. The complimentary French fries cooked in duck fat and served with three different sauces starts things off on a excellent note. The steaks were awesome as was the Lobster Pot Pie. If you are in the city and looking for steak, you can't go wrong with Bourbon Steak.

The best steak I have ever eaten!
I had the Japanese "style" Wagyu (10oz imperial flat iron), and it was amazing. I was skeptical that the wagyu style steak would really be any different than any other cut of steak and was pleasantly surprised at it's deliciousness. Apparently the restaurant has found a local stockyard that breeds magic little half Japanese cows. It is hard to describe just how delicious this steak was... perfectly seasoned and perfectly tender. I actually moaned with each bite. The beet salad, truffle mac & cheese and maple glazed brussel sprouts were also great, as was the service and the wine list. It is a bit of a splurge, but was worth every penny. A great place for a special occasion or big night out.

There was a ton of traffic around the Westin so I dropped off my wife so she could grab our reservation. I ended being another half hour late just to make it down the end of the street to park. They were completely cool with it and showed no signs of rushing us. Rather, they spent quite a bit of time going over the wine list making sure we found exactly what we wanted. The Som was so in tuned with the type of people we are that he recommended we do half glasses of a couple different types of wines (as opposed to a half bottle). Funny thing is that the half glasses were quite large.We ended up saving a lot and had a great experience.

Good. Not Great
We had our family Thanksgiving dinner at Bourbon. The wine list was extensive and varied. The food was well presented and the ambiance was family friendly. Our waitress was distant, talked in a whisper, and acted somewhat indifferent. However, we would still recommend it in the hope that we just got unlucky with a bad waitress.
