A twist on the classic
The menu is a good fish meat mix with some interesting twists on the classics. There is a good range of food, prices and degrees of adventure so everyone will find something that has their name on it. Food was fantastic, service was unubtrusive. I was their with a friend so we were chatting away which is probably why our service was a little slower than other tables. Thorally enjoyed and will be back

Love the food at Brown Dog!
Quality, fresh & delicious every time. Presentation is impeccable. I have my favorites (fish taco & in-quesadilla burger) but am set on trying out everything on the menu :-)

Good food but pricey
Spouse's fish special was excellent; my far eastern barbecue beef & ahi tuna roll was quite good but unmanageable with chopsticks--I had to use knife & fork. These two entrees, 3 glasses of wine, hot tea, tax, & tip came to $100. At 6 on Friday, there was only 1 other couple; 2 more couples arrived later. Our table was poorly lit & my entree was served in dark bowls, so I couldn't see the food very well. Our server was uninformed about the specials; we asked because we overheard another server describe them. No mention was made of the wine specials & I wasn't offered additional hot tea. Given the far eastern influence on many of the dishes, I am surprised the tea service isn't better--more along the lines of PF Chang instead of Bob Evans.

Very solid dinner. Wild boar entree was very good, albeit small portion. Lamb chops were outstanding and duck very good according to my mother and wife. They serve artisan Blue Oven bread with herb butter and roasted garlic which was a nice addition. Key lime pie and carrot cake were a great finish.

We went to the Brown Dog anniversary celebration. They charged $30 for three courses. It was an outstanding value. Of course lots of others were there to enjoy the deal. I thought they did well trying to serve the large crowd. It did make for a long evening.

Another Excellent Experience
We enjoy the creative menu at this chef-owned restaurant, and once again had a wonderful Saturday evening meal there. We both love duck, which is not easy to find on Tri-State restaurant menus, and Brown Dog always as a fabulous duck dish entree on offer. Service is attentive, and the menu is extensive and fun.

The Mediterranean Plate was even better the second time I ordered it. An ample amount of food and a variety of delicious flavors and textures.

The menu was great. Adventurous for the person who likes different taste, yet some basic for the not so adventurous. The food and service was exceptional.

The menu is interesting and ecclectic. Several of us ordered a beet and goat cheese salad (delicious). Entrees ordered ranged from duck to lamb to fish to wild boar - now that's something you don't find in many places. The food was cooked perfectly, nicely presented, and well portioned.
Additionally, I am gluten free and the restaurant is caters nicely to the GF population - GF selections are clearly marked as such on the menu and the entire dessert menu is GF, which I appreciated tremendously. Even the non GF folks at the table enjoyed the delicious desserts: chocolate banana bread, ginger carrot cake, and key lime pie were enthusiastically scarfed by all.

The Food is Wonderful
I go frequently for business lunches and I cannot get enough of the delicious food. The staff has always been wonderful, every time I've been. Couldn't love this place any more!

Great Hidden Gem in Blue Ash!
I brought my parents here for a special dinner based on their recommendation. I can honestly say, it is some of the best food I've had since returning to Ohio (spent) the last two years in Europe. I was very afraid that I would be stuck with boring food chains and no real creativity from a chef.
I was very happy to find very very good quality food in a simple, but elegant atmosphere. Some may think the food is expensive (when you compare it with typical Ohio fare), but I found it very well priced and worth every penny.
My mom had the Wild Boar, dad had the Monkfish and I had the Filet and Cake. All were outstanding! Nothing to complain about-only wish we had more room for dessert! Looking forward to finding an excuse to go back!

Beyond special occasion
Every plate is art. The colors, textures and especially flavors were all magnificent.

They are an lovely place for a leisurely lunch, which I had or I assume, if you tell them you are on a schedule, they will meet it or go a few minutes earlier than noon. Saw business men leaving at 12:30 when we had our reservation for..

When we want a menu that can't be found elsewhere, we go to Brown Dog. The fish was prepared perfectly. The bread is wonderful. There's always lots more on the menu we'd like to try.

Celebrated a co-workers birthday
Celebrated a co-workers birthday with a larger group (10 people). They had the table ready for us when we arrived, and considering the size of our party (and the quality of the food) the food came out all together within a reasonable amount of time. I love Brown Dog cafe, and feel like for what I get at lunch it's such a great deal. I've never been there and had any one leave less than satisfied.

You hve to try the food
The food and the creativity of th chef will blow you away. The physical restaurant look is no true indication as to the quality of the food. At first glance, the Brown Dog Cafe, appears to be a strip mall diner. It is the complete opposite. The menu great and the quality is incredible. I travel with clients to this area and we always bring everyone here. The prices ar sa fair as compared to the qualty. Trust a foodie, this pice is great
8/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
great food good selection
My wife and I ate there and had a wonderful experience. The selection was awesome and the food was excellent. The service was friendly and prompt. We had duck and lamb and both were great. The wine list is very good and the atmosphere is quiet and romantic. We had the Key Lime pie which was the best key lime pie I have ever had.

Gem of a restaurant
Food offering was unique, wine menu was appropriate and we didn't have to drive downtown to get it!
A little pricey, but well worth it!

Not being surprised is a good thing. I know I can bring friends or business associates and know they'll have a wonderful meal.
9/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food, atmosphere, and staff have always been wonderful. I normally come for lunch during the week and this was my first time for dinner. It was great! I can't say anything bad about this restaurant.
9/11/2013 5:00:00 PM
We were driving back from the Smokies and found this place based on Trip Adviser reviews. It was great. Best food we had our entire vacation. Interesting menu, I had wild Boar, my wife and our friend had the Mahi and everything was excellent. Good wine list. Great service. You would never have any idea looking at the outside what good things were awaiting you. It is worth the drive to the northern reaches of Cincinnati
9/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food is terrific and well worth the effort to find. It is not a place you would immediately go to by the looks. It is in a strip mall and nondescript from from the exterior. The interior is nice and suitable.
The menu isn't massive... nor should it be. The food was interesting and very good.
9/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
always good here
i consistently have a great experience at Brown Dog Cafe, be it lunch or dinner.

Willing to take risks
What we like most about Brown Dog is that they have interesting stuff on their menu and are willing to take risks with ingredients rather than slide back into safe boring fare. My wife and I had the camen-pear appetizer and roast ohio beet and goat cheese salad. Both were pretty good. (I liked the beet salad better because of the crusted goat cheese... very tasty.)
For our entres, we had the "mediterranean duck wellington" and wild boar. The texture of the duck did not lend itself to the phyllo dough, but the taste was great. The wild boar was really good with the fig reduction. The only drawback to both dishes was that there seemed to be one ingredient too many on each dish... but I will trade that over "boring" any day.
9/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
Food choices are unique and make for good choosing. Our party had the Boar, Tuba, Halibut and Duck. The Duck was the least favorite but all were prepared well and with some vegetables. Salads and appetizers were also good. Desserts were large portions and also unique. Our 2 wines from the "by the glass" menu were average.

Quaint little place
My husband and I went Saturday night for the first time- recommended to us by friends. The food was good- my husband has the boar- he enjoyed it but was not a big fan of the seasoning (just a personal preference thing). I had the curry halibut- it was prepared perfectly- light on the curry. Would go back to try the lamb which our server said folks come in just for that dish.
For apps- we shared 3- the crab cake which I will definitely order my own next time, tuna roll was good and the caramelized pear- nice change of pace.
Vanilla bean ice cream was amazing- could have made "room" for an entire pint! :)
FYI- location is easy- right off 71 next to hotel and behind Bob Evans in strip mall. Probably not suitable for small children.

Another fine meal at Brown Dog Cafe
Brown Dog Cafe remains one of our favorite restaurants. The menu offerings are always changing with imaginative dishes and excellent preparation. Service has always been somewhat slow, but when we were there (a weeknight) it was attentive and quick. Because there were fewer patrons than usual, the ambience and noise level were also greatly improved. The wine list remains top notch.
10/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food just "fits"
The food all fits together. Its tastes good together. It's paired well, it...just..."fits." I was a little disappointed though. The server said there was no more Key Lime Pie. About 15 minutes after my Creme Brulee came out, i saw another server walking by with Key Lime Pie?!?! Not happy about that.

New menu, tried the small steak shepherds pie. Lovely presentation, very tasty idea. We all had the 3 for 30 on Thursday night....appetizer, salad and main course all from the regular menu for$30. Quite a nice deal.

Great food, slower service
I have gone to Brown Dog many times over the years, particularly for lunch. The food was tasty, as usual, but service was atypically slow for a couple of salads. Restaurant was packed, and I'm sure I'll be back again!

An anniversary to remember
We tried the 3 course Thursday special, which is basically smaller portions from the dinner menu. Just right. The chef is really innovative and the food so interesting that we kept the menu with us during the meal so we could try to taste each of the flavors. We had the lamb duo and the tuna and of course, shared the plates.

Great little hidden spot
Was dining with a friend and both of our meals were great. I enjoyed the scallops . Interesting presentation over a pumpkin/black bean hash. Friend's salmon was excellent she stated. Service was prompt and attentive.

Overall, excellent as always.
Menu could do with a review and update

Excellent food, creative cooking
Menu is inspired and different. The menu includes meat, seafood, lamb, duck, venison and other game, as well as a vegetarian vegetable grill. Each dish is unique and well done. I had scallops on a bed of bacon, shaved brussel sprouts and a sauce that brought it all together to create a smooth, creamy delightful dish. My husband had duck, which he said was outstanding. The chef changes the menu seasonally and uses local or specialty sources for his meat, seafood and produce. The portions are reasonable, not enormous, and the combinations are creative and original. The wine list is excellent. I do have a dietary restriction (low salt) and they were completely open to preparing me a meal that met my needs. It was most appreciated.

Girls' Night Out
Our group of five on a shopping/eating get-away thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Brown Dog Cafe! It is just down the road from the Embassy Suites in Blue Ash where we stayed. The variety and quality of the food we ordered was outstanding. We loved our evening there!!

Very Good Repeat Visit
We had dinner at the Brown Dog for the second time last Friday and we weren't disappointed. Both food and service were very good. The menu includes some very creative and unexpected dishes; my husband had a venison shepherd's pie that he loved. We visit the Cincinnati area from Indianapolis several times a year and the Brown Dog Café has become one of our favorite restaurants that we'll visit when we're in town. I wish we could dine there more often.
