The best thing about ordering way too much brunch (we started w/ Apple Malasadas and Manapua) was that I had enough to take home for later. The French Toast with chicken nuggets and sausage gravy is out of this world. It may be my new "chicken and waffles," and their sausage gravy is hands down the best I've had in Seattle. Bottomless mimosas! Watch out!
Nice service and great interior. Love the open kitchen and extensive bar.

Amazing birthday meal!
I brought my husband here to celebrate his birthday - the chicken was incredible. We're still chowing on leftovers. Also. Sweet rolls with pan drippings - unbelievable. I'm pretty sure I could just eat that for the rest of my life and be happy. And the popcorn ice cream was such a treat too. Great service, nice spot, and terrific, fast food. Thanks for such a fun experience - we'll be back!

Fried chicken is good but
Fried chicken is good but not great. I think I prefer a slightly greasier fried chicken though. It's a bit under seasoned as well.
Kalbi ribs were amazing as was the corn on the cob and pop corn icecream.
Many items on the menu make we want to come back but I wouldn't get the chicken again.

Ate at Ma'ono again to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Last year's anniversary dinner was also spent at Ma'ono and our first time there. Food was delicious as usual and the service was great. Nicole was our server and although she seemed new, she was perfect. On our last visit we had surprisingly bad service. The waiter actually seemed indignant. This time, Nicole was friendly, resourceful, gracious with our request to serve the special cake that we brought, and down to earth in a perfect way. Thanks for another delicous anniversary dinner! Based on Nicole's recommendation, we are coming for brunch very soon!

Excellent Fried Chicken
My wife and I had heard so much about the fried chicken at Ma'ono that we had to check it out. It did not disappoint! The restaurant was very busy but the waitstaff were very friendly and attentive. You have to reserve your fried chicken when you make your reservation because they run out. We did and so enjoyed a half chicken with Portuguese sweet rolls. The chicken was delicious - it was crispy, not oily and the batter was the perfect blend of sweet and savory. We will definitely be back!

My wife and I ate here with
My wife and I ate here with family while on vacation in Seattle. I'd read about Spring Hill and the "famous" fried chicken in Food & Wine Magazine so we decided to eat here. We all shared one fried chicken (reserve in advance) that comes with Kimchi, rice, and a couple of sauces. The chicken was cooked perfectly, juicy with crispy delicious skin.We were a little concerned that one chicken (10 pieces) wouldn't be enough for 4 people. Even if we hadn't shared a couple of appetizers, the chicken would have been plenty of food. Hands down, the best fried chicken we'd ever eaten! Plenty of parking on the street or in various shopping center lots in the area. Highly recommended!

excellent food, great service
i thought my son and i were going to the middle of nowhere. we were not, west seatle is a vibrant neighborhood, and this is a great restaurant. the fried chicken and the curry and bacon fried rice are standouts. we had the dog also, but it didn't resonate with me. good beers on tap. service was outstanding. attentive, but not overbearing. our server was bright, cheery, and engaging. i asked the maitre d' for help getting back to downtown seattle and she came to our table with a printout from the web. flawless in every respect.

Best chicken in town
Ma'ono has one of the best menus in Seattle. The fried chicken is the surely the best, but everything is delicious. The atmosphere is nice and staff is amazing.

Fried chicken drew my son
Fried chicken drew my son and I to Ma'ono and we were not dissapointed. Growing up on southern fried chicken, the search for the best fried chicken has always been a goal. Ma'ono does not win the prize, but they dish out a great meal to include a crispy fried chicken that crunches and gives way to a juicy inside. The sides of kimshee and rice complimented he chicken but an order of sweet rolls and grilled corn on the cob raised the bar.
Service was excellent and attentive. A view of the grill and watching the fast pace action of the cooks was entertaining. I would recommend Ma'ono for a good change of pace and a pleasant meal.

Best Chicken Ever!
if you like fried chicken-this is the place to go. Moist inside--yummy crunchy outside--big pieces too! Order the chicken ahead to be sure they have one for you-everyone there the night we went was eating chicken. Loved the rice & macaroni salad too. The chicken comes with rice & kimchi & 2 other sauces which are tasty-but a tad spicy-especially the kimchi. The cost is $39 for a whole chicken but you can also order a half. The whole was more than enough for the 4 of us with some leftover to take home.
By the way the burger & french fries are great too. There were several families with kids there so must be kid-friendly. Not a place I would go to every week-or every month, but definitely several times a year!

I thought the fried chicken was superb!!! the kimchi excellent. The bananna cream pie was fabulous!!!! Will be back to try other dishes soon. Love your place..server was personable and attentive.

Chicken is the Best!
I thought the chicken would be good but i did not expect it to be the best fried chicken i ever ate! It was moist, well seasoned, and very plump. I plan to come back again and again just to eat their fried chicken. I would stay away from the manapua - i don't know what was the filling inside but they need to go back to the drawing board and improve it. Still, the chicken even overcame the bad taste of the manapua to give it a 5 star rating.
7/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
burger is still good
the burger is still what brings me back from time to time. i think the food is okay and the menu is a little scattered. i don't think the food shows off the chef's talent and not sure if it's a reflection of disinterest in this current restaurant (same location just different name and theme). the previous restaurant, spring hill was more exciting in terms of the food (great picks of local ingredients) and the chef's talent really was showcased. however, i thought brunch at the current restaurant was better than at spring hill.

Making my Birthday AWESOME!
Awesome food! Awesome service! Great place for a large family meal.

Yummy chicken in West Seattle
There are so many friend chicken joints popping up in Seattle but Ma'ono is now our favorite go-to place when we are craving fried chicken. It beats Ezell's because of the dipping sauces and the moist but crispy chicken. And with so many other delectable pupus, sides and entrees, it just can't be beat!

Our new favorite restaurant
Two of us had an amazing meal here recently. It reminded us of Momu Fuku in NYC, only better! It's in a beautiful space in West Seattle. We had the green salad (very nice dressing), the short ribs (excellent with a delicious sauce) and half a fried chicken, which was great. We loved it all and had food left over to take home. We also enjoyed our Lucille IPA on tap. Service was also excellent.
My only complaint is that the restaurant was quite cold and my husband and I kept our coats on the entire meal.

Loved the Corned Beef Hash
We recently visited Ma'ono for a birthday celebration. The brunch menu had so many interesting items that we asked our server for advice. Her response of "I like everything" wasn't very helpful to us, but after receiving our food, I'm sure it was accurate. One of us had the corned beef hash and the other got 1/2 a chicken. Both were good, but I think I prefer the hash because the flavors were so good.
They let us linger over lunch and could have done a better job of keeping our glasses filled, but otherwise it was fine.

Chicken almost worth the hype & $$
The chicken: moist, flavorful and very delicious, best I've had in a while. Coating on a few of the dark meat pieces was overly thick & dark. Biscuits were nice and flaky, and sausage gravy was good, but not great. Saimin was outstanding. Broth was full of pork-y goodness which had infused nicely into the noodles. Loco moco was a bit disappointing; I felt like the grits and sausage were overkill. And there wasn't nearly enough gravy. When we asked for extra, we were scolded by our server and begrudgingly given a small bowl. Service could be better. We waited a long time just for a greeting and some water. Didn't appreciate the attitude about the gravy request - just charge me extra and leave out the complaints.

A nice West Seattle spot, the chicken is good (don't forget the sweet rolls, with the pasta salad, it's high end KFC). good whiskey selection (need more ryes). Nice place for a good evening.
8/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
Our party of four tried many small dishes, each one better than the last--wonderful ingredients, taste, and presentation. Then got a chance to sample the chicken. They aren't kidding--this chicken is terrific. Fun, relaxed atmosphere with great service but it is all about the food, food, food!

Is this heaven?
My brother came in from out of town and we made the pilgrimage to West Seattle for a half a fried chicken on a Saturday morning. The place was almost empty, which was a little disconcerting, but once our food came out we could care less about the environment. Everything was perfect. My brother said that he was certain we died on our night out, and were currently in heaven at Ma'Ono. This is not a a man prone to hyperbole, it was just that good. Everyone go here right now/all the time.
8/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
Good for small groups
You get what you pay for, and $40 for a friend chicken is worth every penny. It's not an every day buy (who eats fried chicken every day anyway?), but it makes for a great picnic at the beach. FYI, we had a party of 9, ordered two chickens (which comes with the right amount of kimchi but not enough rice), a few sides of bread, and a side of green beans; everyone was fed with no leftovers. If I were to do it again, I would have ordered another half or maybe another whole chicken. Oh, and a side is enough for about two people.
It was delicious. We would eat there again in a heartbeat.

Fantastic Spot in West Seattle
The Fried Chicken is life-changing. Gloriously good simple food.

MFC (Ma'Ono Fried Chicken)
If only I could order a MFC plate lunch, I'd be there every day!
8/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
This was a return trip mostly for the chicken. It was great.
8/22/2013 5:00:00 PM
The fried chicken was very good. It was fun to try a new cuisine, Hawaiian.
8/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
Another wonderful meal at Ma'Ono. The appetizer special with mint, nectarines and cured beef was amazing, as was the shave ice dessert special. As ever the fried chicken is the best I've had anywhere. It was a special treat to have a date night out and we jumped at this rare chance for dinner at Ma'Ono.
8/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
This restaurant is definitely one of my Seattle favorites. I love to take out of town friends here to really blow them away. I can roll in casual and always find myself impressed with the knowledgeable and friendly service. The food is INSANE. I highly recommend reserving a chicken, bring your best friends, and order everything on the menu to share. The pork buns are the best in the city and the tacos will make your knees buckle. You will never be let down by Ma' Ono when your looking for great food and a wonderful evening.

Unique + innovative; great service
Fantastic and innovative; we loved everything we ordered. Excellent, friendly and knowledgeable service. Very popular with locals, when we were there it was packed at 5 on a Sunday. Only complaint is ventilation. Ask for a table closer to the front as the tables back by the kitchen get really hot
9/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
Best Fried Chicken in Seattle
This has by far the crunchiest, juiciest, most delicious fried chicken you'll find in this part of the country. And the rest of the dishes are great too. Not to be missed!
9/4/2013 5:00:00 PM
What's not to love?
We 'found' this restaurant by accident when we thought we would eat at the place next door. The wonderful smells coming out of Ma'ono quickly changed our minds and we haven't looked back. We travel from the eastside just to eat here and have brought several friends. Our entire family chose Ma'ono as our preferred birthday dinner location this year. Highly recommend the chicken, served with kimchi and rice. But everyone else is just as good, which makes eating here an absolute joy.
9/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
Took the family for dinner. Restaurant was very accommodating for both a small child and gluten free diet.
9/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
The kalbi short ribs was our favorite appetizer, and the fried chicken was awesome. Eat as much (or all) of the fried chicken fresh at the restaurant to enjoy the crispiness of the skin.
9/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
I am ashamed to say that this place doesn't pop into my head often enough when weighing dining options. The food was amazing on this visit, as was the service. From the minute we walked into the door, the staff made sure to help us celebrate our anniversary, even sending over two flutes of champagne (complimentary, of course!). Husband opted for the fried chicken and left fat & happy. I selected the Ma'Ono saimin and enjoyed it immensely both that night and as leftovers the next morning.
We started going to Ma'Ono back in the SpringHill days and always walk away satisfied.
Can't say enough nice things about the restaurant and the staff. Highly recommend.
9/18/2013 5:00:00 PM
The BEST fried chicken!
What else needs to be said? Oh...also the greatest sides, appetizers, and mocktails/cocktails!
9/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
Was blown away by the food and drinks. Fantastic! The fried chicken was amazing!!!
9/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
Another great meal
As usual, the fried chicken did not disappoint ( though we later realized that we were served 1 breast and 3 wings--would make for a very odd looking bird). Musubi was better than we remembered and great cocktails. Server was appropriately attentive and very helpful in offering suggestions. Only negative is the sound level--made conversation a screaming match at one point--would love to see that addressed as this really is the best of West Seattle and we love to show it off.

Best Fried Chicken
We were a party of 3 & all born/reared in Georgia where fried chicken is king. One of our party commented she was not sure how someone in the NW learned to cook fried chicken as good as that we grew up with. We were all pleasantly surprised. Whereas chili sauce, sweet & sour & kim chee were not accompaniments we were familiar with, they definitely added a nice & tasty kick.
10/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
I've wanted to eat at Ma'ono for a while but never had the opportunity. Glad I finally made it! It was a busy night but service was prompt and my water glass was filled often. I enjoyed my spot near the open kitchen, I could see all the dishes going past and it helped me decide what to order! It was really a difficult choice, and although I went with something other than the chicken I know I'll be back for it someday soon. My kalua pork lettuce wraps were delicious, though, and caramelized banana lumpia for dessert was amazing!
10/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great dinner. Went for Restaurant Week but will be returning to try out the full menu. The fried chicken was great and so were the Pork Lettuce Wraps!

We've been to Ma' ono Fried
We've been to Ma' ono Fried Chicken & Whiskey (previously known as Spring Hill) over the last couple years and have never been disappointed. The menu provides a spectrum of simple, yet delicious foods that balance flavor, color, texture, and aroma. The value is outstanding and we always bring something home.
10/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great to OK
Chicken brunch was great. Corned beef hash was good except oven fried potatoes were hard and chewy and not very hot. Mimosa's and Bloody Marys were very good.
11/1/2013 5:00:00 PM
This was the most incredible
This was the most incredible fried chicken I have ever tasted. You have to get the huge sweet rolls with it! Amazing!
11/4/2013 4:00:00 PM
Their claim to fame is the fried chicken, which is always excellent, but they also have a number of other dishes that are also very good. Their pupus are delicious as well. I haven't had anything I didn't like at Ma'ono.
It can get a little loud, but it's fun there. I love the decor. My servers have always been great.

Sparkling gem of West Seattle
Had been wanting to try Ma'ono for some time, and finally found a proper date night to do so. I ordered my half chicken in advance, so we only needed to choose sides and drinks. Drink choices were stellar and service was prompt and kind.
The chicken itself was well seasoned, not too greasy, and overall divine. But the sides left a little to be desired. We got the caramelized broccoli, and it shot past the al dente border into the land of raw. It was like gnawing on a chunk of tree bark, and the flavor was off as well. We left it mostly uneaten, and when we told the person who checked up on us after the meal, we were told it was an artistic choice of the chef. Fair enough, I artistically choose to disagree and never eat your broccoli again.

Chicken and Whisky, need I say more
Second time dining here and we will be back for a third. The chicken here is amazing, make sure you request one when making your reservation. The chicken is not super greasy (a la KFC) and it tastes amazing. Fall off the bone, eat all the unhealthy skin, and fight for the last piece good. The sides are just as good too. We had the Spam sushi rolls, pork tacos (could have eaten 12 of these), green beans and pork sweet rolls. All amazing. The whisky list is decent, not overly huge and slightly expensive. I recommend the Bastille, super smooth with a hint of orange. Goes really well with the chicken. The service was pretty good, server was absent for a while and then overly attentive but not enough to ruin our night. Great place!!!!!
11/8/2013 4:00:00 PM
Not a plate lunch place
A whole chicken, plus 5 apps, fed 5 of us, and we had a box to take home. Everything was very tasty, and we'll go back.
The service was uneven - we were given a bowl for bones, but then it was taken away while we were still eating; another bowl was not brought to the table.
11/9/2013 4:00:00 PM
Outside of the Keg wine, which was a little weird. This place was fantastic! Had the spare ribs and she had the burger. She said the burger is probably the best one she has ever had. Popcorn Ice Cream was a great finish as well. Thanks!

df easy, gf with care
Gluten intolerant folks can eat really well if you can tolerate a wee bit of soy sauce. Everything is super yummy.
11/15/2013 4:00:00 PM
make sure you have a reservation
easy to do on open table. very popular. we pre-ordered the fried chicken . it is lovely. sides were uninspired. will go back to try more though. have some interesting entrees besides the chicken.
