Like its sibling, Cacio e
Like its sibling, Cacio e Pepe, Cacio e Vino serves excellent pastas in a rustic setting at affordable prices. I strongly recommend their sea urchin ribbon pasta dish, as well as their duck ragu tube pasta dish (I dont recall exactly which noodles they used). I'd also recommend patience; their service can be quite slow, but the pasta is worth the wait.

We visited the restaurant
We visited the restaurant for an early dinner so I can't account for the noise level later in the evening. Our waiter was pleasant, chatted about menu selections, made a few suggestions. The food was excellent - our appetizer was especially tasty - calamari, shrime and zucchini, very nicely presented. The pasta was a little different from what we've had before - and our waiter explained that the restaurant featured the sicilian style and we'd probably had mostly roman style. I guess the tables were a little tight, but since it was early that was not a problem. The wine selections were varied - and the pour was not stingy! A very enjoyable meal on all levels. We'll definitely return

Seriously, some of the best
Seriously, some of the best food I've had. Didn't know what to expect when we walked into the restaurant, hadn't heard anything about it. What a surprise!! Already recommended it to my daughter. Waiter couldn't have been more accomodating.

Like Coming Home to my Nonna's hous
I decided to take myself back to Cacio e Vino's restaurant on Mother's Day. As a treat for myself I wanted to taste my Sicilian roots in the delicate and exotic flavors of Sicilian cooking. The chef's cooking is flawless. The wine as always was delectable and my sea urchin pasta was the best.
Our appetizers were a meal in itself: The caponata with chick pea fritters was my daughter's favorite and the timballo with melanzano and buffalo mozzarella is like nothing you have ever tasted in your life.
The baked gnocchi was a very subtle dish with mozzarella and basil with tomatoe but the mussels Southern Italian style was the best that I have ever had. The sauce was just a bit spicey but the cherry tomatoes melted in our mouths.

We came here with a Groupon
We came here with a Groupon and I was a little worried after reading other reviews from people with Groupons, but that was not our experience at all. Our portions were full sized, as was the wine and we were able to order anything off the regular menu. The food was terrific, we had the Pasta with Peas, served from a huge wedge of cheese and it was amazing. I would go back again, with or without a Groupon.

A real treat
I tried this restaurant because of a Groupon, and could not have been more delighted with the experience ... there was no problem using the groupon, the service was attentive, considerate, I asked for a recommendation and was certainly pleased with the entree recommended (the fish stew -- better than most equivalent dishes I've had in NY), it was just a very pleasant place to have dinner, really good food, not over-priced, felt like the "real deal" (I've spent time in Sicily, and although I can't swear to the authenticity, it is not your run-of the-mill Italian restaurant that is for sure).
I'm looking forward to my next visit, the real test of how I feel about a place!
5/14/2013 4:00:00 PM
I'd never heard of the place and somehow felt that because they were right on Second Ave they would be ordinary, a tourist destination. Wrong. The food was exquisite, memorable. The leg of lamb was mind-blowing. I can't imagine how they made it so tender and succulent. Everything was great and the service was attentive and friendly. Wonderful surprise.

Sicily in America
Being Sicilian and having been to Sicily many times - my wife and I were curious about Cacio e Vino. Diego, our host and server, was very friendly and helpful with our food and wine selection and made us feel like we were eating in a friend's restaurant. The food was authentic sicilian with dishes like panelle, grilled octopus with fennel and orange, and Anelleti alla Parlemitana - a must try! The Eggplant Timbale was delicious as was our wild arugula salad with shaved primosale. The best way to enjoy this menu is to order a bunch of appetizers so you can enjoy all the flavors this island has to offer! We couldn't think of a better meal to complement our anniversary and will definitely be back to our little slice of "Sicily in America"!

A waiter who understands his job -
All to often, a waiter is merely a food carrier - they take your order and schlep your food to your table. But every now and again a waiter stands out for trying to help you have a marvelous time at his restaurant: he knows the menu and the wine list, and he listens to you as you ask your first few question, and . . . . he gets you! That was Cacio e Vino. The waiter listened and made great recommendations - he checked back to make sure they worked - he understood what we were asking about and took care of us. And when the stray friend arrived, he was served instantly. It was a great evening and a special restaurant!

Ah, La Bella Sicilia e Cacio e Vino
Father's Day was a delicious dinner . As always, Diego was warm and welcoming as if I had gone home to my cugini in Palermo. He is a knowledgeable somelier; always right on the money when it comes to wine. His food recommendations are amazing; you savor this absolutely delicious food. The fritti de pesce with calamari, shrimp and zucchini was so tasty and done to perfection; the spicy marinara sauce had a fresh taste of basil, tomatoes and seasonings like my nonna's seafood sauce. My grilled calamari with zucchini, cherry tomatoes was delicate, but sumptuous. I had to use bread to soak up the sauce. The Lamb Shank was the best in the city. My experience was one to remember forever. Service was attentive.. Grazie, Diego e Andrea.

excellent neighborhood Sicilian
My Sicilian American wife can by quite fussy about Sicilian/Italian food. Cacio e Vino passed her test.
Our server, Diego, was great - made excellent suggestions on wines by the glass and steered us towards menu items we enjoyed very much. Memorable were the mussels with in a wonderful spicy sauce, eggplant timbale, and branzino. Good deserts and espresso.

Top Notch Sicilian Restaurant
Delicious and authentic Sicilian dishes which were wonderfully presented by waiters who were professional and easy to deal with. The seafood was fresh and grilled to perfection. Great neighborhood trattoria to relax and enjoy a tasteful meal.

worth return visits
We had an early dinner reservation. We were seated promptly and given our menus. Service was efficient, neither too fast or slow. The food was quite good, especially an appetizer of zucchini, calamari and shrimp. This was not our first visit and I'm sure not our last since we have family in the area. I will say that the music, while not loud, could have been toned down somewhat. It was a little distracting.

Foods from Sicily
Our group of six just returned from Sicily. We had our pre-travel dinner here st Cacio e Vino. It was so good that we returned for our post-travel dinner. Thanks Cacio e Vino.

The best Italian food we have had since we were in Italy. Great ambiance! The service was delightful and very attentive. The food was imaginative and paired well with the wine selection. Our server Diego was from Italy. He had great suggestions and made a fantastic cappuccino to finish off our meal. I wish I lived in NY, we would go once a week! Enjoy, I know you will!

Enjoyed the restaurant....was encouraged to buy more expensive bottle of wine but I declined. Very relaxed and unrushed.
Everyone enjoyed their food. Caught off guard when we read on the menu that cash or American Express was only form of payment.

Always excellent food and service
I brought my youngest daughter to Cacio e Vino since she's never eaten there and she had the pasta with the sea urchin. She was delighted and said it tasted just like when we were in Agrigento! Our melanzane timballe was like heaven and the wine was perfect. Diego was the perfect host making you feel like you've entered a place of honor and each course is a symphony. Andrea is such an attentive server and just when you think you want something, there he is getting you exactly what you need. The place is indeed magical and always a treat to taste the cibo alla bella Sicilia! Bravissimo, Diego!

Home Sicilian cooking and charm!
This is the perfect example of a neighborhood Italian gem! Delicious and authentic food, great wines, & outstanding service. Server Massimo was so charming you'll want him to join you for dinner! The manager, Christine, and whole staff were so welcoming that you felt as though you were in their home, not a restaurant. Stand outs: arancina and grilled octopus, both fantastic. Pastas: the PACCHERI ALL'ASTICE - WOW and GNOCCHI ALL'ANATRA - perfect gnocchi. Main course TAGLIATA DI MANZO. Food was so good came back 2 days later with a group to try more! BUSIATE, ANELETTI & RIGATONI. I think I can safely recommend you add this to your fav Italian restaurants in NYC!

My parents were in town and my fiance and I were looking for some place close for dinner. Our experience was amazing. Portions were perfect and tasted incredible. The restaurant was out of my selection of wine and we were offered a more expensive, older vintage at the lesser price. I would say they might want to consider position numbers at the table because the gentleman who delivered our food auctioned off the plates and we couldnt understand him very well. We didnt save room for dessert which we regretted as their tiramisu looked delicious from afar.
We will be back!

Words Cannot Express
As always Cacio e Vino has it all. The atmosphere, the adventure in food and the service is tremendous.
IT was our wedding anniversary and we enjoyed ourselves just like we did 31 years ago. We laughed, drank and ate ourselves into blissful celebration.
Anna, our server was wonderful. She and I spoke some Sicilian words that made us both laugh. It's always a joy to visit Cacio e Vino. Abbundanza! Bravissimo a Maestro di Cucina!

Great Italian restaurant! I took my husband for his birthday. We really enjoyed the authentic food and the service was excellent! They even have gluten free pasta.

authentic Sicilian food
I have now been to Cacio e Vino four or five times and every time it has been superb. You find there dishes that are not Italian standards and that are just what you would have in a Sicilian or Sardenian trattoria--bucatoni with sardines and pine nuts, polipo (octopus) grilled to perfection--not mushy, not rubbery. One of my favorites is a not-so-simple spaghetti with peas, which comes to the table with an enormous cheese, into which the spaghetti is poured and swirled until it takes on a kind of creamy shellac of cheese--out of this world!
Occasionally the service is a bit slow, but it is worth waiting for the attentive waiters to get to you. Also, the wait means that your food will be truly freshly cooked.

Authentic Sicilian Restaurant
This restaurant serves consistently good food (I've been there about eight times to date). My parents were from Sicily and they have authentic Sicilian recipes on the menu in addition to some other Italian goodies that most Americans will recognize, e.g. tiramisu. My wife and I have NEVER had a bad meal. The owner is always there keeping on eye on things. He is a gracious man who ensures that his patrons are happy. Bravo!
