Specchio was a last minute
Specchio was a last minute choice for a birthday dinner for a friend. She and I had a fantastic time. The outside of the restaurant leaves you guessing what might be inside, but it is well worth it to wander in. We had a fairly attentive waiter who really knew the food and was able to make good recommendations (like the Gnocchi--to die for!!!). The restaurant wasn't very busy when we were there (early on a tuesday night), but the atmosphere was still lively (but not so much that we couldn't hear each other). The only draw back I found was that it was kept pretty cool in there, so bring a sweater just in case.
great dining experience. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! :)

One of my FAVORITE restaurants.
I have eaten at Specchio at least 15 times and each visit has been GREAT. Food, service and the staff are excellent. I recommend this restaurant to locals and tourists all the time.
It is one of my Bay Area favorites.

Gnocchi was light and tasty.
Gnocchi was light and tasty. Several vegetarian options. Pork chop entree was a bit on the salty side. Cannoli dessert was good, not amazing.

We went with a party of 4, and all of us had a great time and great food.
The wine list was interesting and we tried some nice italian reds. My husband had the pork chop which was cooked to perfection. I had home-made rigatoni with saffron, zuchinni and speck. Yum! Our waiter was great!

Service, food and wine were very good. Decor is kind of strange, and not very romantic for a date night, but we had a great time. Prices are reasonable, so this would be a great spot for dinner with a small group of friends.

Delicious, authentic Italian food and service with a smile. We found it through a Groupon and almost missed it from the street. It was well worth it! We loved the grilled veggies, mushroom pizza, walnut pesto, ricotta gnocchi and wild boar bolognese...with our party of 5 that had appetizers, entrees and dessert- every single plate was amazing! Thank you David and Gino for a wonderful experience, we will definitely be back!

Many visits, always great
I've eaten here many times and while I've had several dishes (beef carpaccio is a must), the gorgonzola smothered pork chop is amazing. My husband or I always gets it, the other gets something different so we can share. Gino is a wonderful chef, all servers have been lovely. Very unique decor! addition of full bar is a definite plus

Great Mission Italian Restaurant
Saturday night, the food was amazing and the service was outstanding. We had an early seating and suspect that as the restaurant fills to capacity, it could be quite loud. We started with two refreshing cocktails from the bar (a Perfetto and Basil Drop) with our appetizers. We are suckers for polenta and Specchio's did not disappoint. It was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside - delicious. The Burrata was incredible - their fresh Mozzarella is not to be missed! For entrees, my husband had smoked salmon Tagliolini and I had the walnut pesto. My husband used the focaccia to wipe his bowl clean. And I haven't had pesto that tasted this fresh since we were in Italy. This is our new favorite Italian restaurant in the City.

Great Italian food at a good price
The quality and value at this restaurant is outstanding. This was our second visit and we tried different dishes each time. Each dish had it's unique quality. The last visit, we had the pasta with boar, which had berry's added for an added a unique texture to the sauce. The organic fed pork chop with gorganzola had just the right amount of gorganzola to add flavor, but not overpower the meat. My wife usually doesn't like gorganzola, but loved this dish. This is now one of our favorites among a lot of great Italian restaurants in SF.

Great spot in the Mission
Specchio is a hidden gem in the Mission that many people don't know about. Friendly staff, large portions at reasonable price and great atmosphere make it an ideal spot for dinner. Large and hip space with vintage Italian movies projected on the main wall above the open kitchen is a cool touch. It's nice to eat great Italian food without having to yell to your friends like in most overcrowded Mission restaurants.

The attentive service here was exceptionally friendly (and not over the top either) The food were judged by my significant other's (who is Italian; been to Italy etc.) standards. Accordingly, the mussels were not the freshest and some of the food did not taste authentic, but I enjoyed it. *shrugs* I would definitely return again, I am a fan.

Hidden gem in the mission
Great food at a great price. Took my brother and his wife to this restaurant and they loved it. The salmon is excellent as is the beet risotto. Great service topped of our experience. Would give more stars if I could.

Burratta to die for
This was my third time eating here and it was just as good as the previous meals. Food is always fresh, portions are generous and prices are reasonable. The burratta is so creamy and was served with a generous portion of sweet heirloom tomatoes. Pasta is cooked to perfection. I had salmon which was very good and my partner had veal scallopini which he also enjoyed. Service is friendly and professional.

Nice and quiet during the week.
Our previous dinner at Specchio was on the weekend and it was pretty crowded and loud. This time on a Tuesday was much quieter. Full bar = good cocktails. The carpaccio was delicious, and main courses as well.
Service was a little slow at times.

The pork chop was delectable.
The pork chop was delectable. The cannoli was delicious and the salmon ricotta antipasto was also relish. Good coffee too.

Great food, great service
Went with a party of 8 people. Food was great, service was awesome, and the bill was a pleasant surprise. I had risotto with calamari and loved it.

Been a while.
Friendly knowledgeable staff. Only 2 California wines Nice! Pasta and risotto perfectly cooked. Tiramisu good, mint panna cotta reminded me of mint jello. Nasty part of town but well worth the journey.

Amazing food and ambiance!
We had the grilled vegetables for appetizer and the squid ink risotto and salmon for dinner. The salmon was one of the best I have ever had, perfectly grilled and seasoned. The potatoes that came along with it could have been better, but it was a really nice experience. The waiter was very patient and not on your face and the overall ambience was very modern yet very Italian.

Great Italian Restaurant
This was our first time at Speccio..It was a wonderful dinner. Great tasty carpaccio and the pork chop was delicious. My friend loved her pasta with crabmeat. The service was attentive and helpful in selecting dishes. .The wine list consists of mostly Italian wines and is affordable by the glass also.
We definitely can recommend this restaurant and we will be back..

Came here through an online deal, but it was easily worth full price. Small plates (beets and polenta) were very tasty. Primi pastas were perfectly al dente; one with walnut pesto and the other pork bolognese, so fresh and delicious. Secondi was the pork chop, just right. Portions were a bit large for SF, but not too much.
Cocktails were well made, especially the vodka/cucumber concoction. And the manager/owner suggested a wine that paired perfectly with the pork chop.
Service was quick and attentive by the team of staff, though our actual waiter was a little too busy to attend to our questions and we had to ask others. The manager/owner visited us a couple times, and seemed to speak with every single guest in the restaurant.

A nice spot in the Mission
This was my second visit to Specchio and both times, I've been impressed. The prix-fixe menu is delicious and plentiful and the cocktails were quite nice, too. We also liked the attention that the waiters gave to us. Very attentive but not obtrusive. The kitchen was lightening fast, too.
The only thing that didn't wow me was the dessert but the salad, main, pasta and cocktails definitely made up for that. Keep it up, Specchio!

Mission District Gem
My husband and I brought our daughter and two children to this chic and modern restaurant. They offered a good selection of Italian wines and traditional Italian dishes with a modern twist. My husband had the Sangiovese and I had a white wine from Tuscany, both went well with our meal. The gnocchi, pork chop, grilled salmon and polenta were all outstanding. We especially loved the sauces that were unique in the gnocchi, pork chops and mussels. This restaurant showed it's true hospitality with it's kind attention to our table; albeit bringing along a 2 y.o. and a 4 y.o. They loved the mussels, finishing off the bowl. We had to put in another order so that the grown ups could have some.
8/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
The homemade pasta was a highlight, although the cinghiale sauce could have had more flavor. The roasted veggie appetizer was surprisingly flavorful and delicious. The crispy polenta was more chewy than crispy. Service was fairly attentive.

A Mission District Find
Specchio is very nice. There are several good restaurants in the Mission, but Specchio is one of the best. Excellent attentive service and very good food at reasonable prices.

Yummy Italian Gem
This was my second time eating at Specchio and I could not wait to try it again to see if it was still as great as the first time. It was. They treated our table of 5 like VIP guests. Service was wonderful and the food was perfect. The menu works wonderfully for larger groups or intimate tables. The ambience is urban but cozy. I will definitely be going back soon!

Great ambiance, food, & service!
I love this place, always have a great experience! Great food, service, wine list, fun ambiance- SO glad I stumbled upon Specchio a year or so ago. It's definitely one of my staples in the mission!

I love this restaurant and feel very comfortable here. The service is terrific and most of the food is terrific. But the Cornish Game Hen was awful. The meat was like basic chicken and it was slathered in a sauce that seemed 100 percent mustard. I couldn't eat more than a couple of bites. Do customers really like this? The other three dishes were superb -- spaghetti with fruiti di mare, the best sirloin steak I have ever had anywhere by far, and pasta with cinghiale (wild boar), the pasta in that dish being among the best pasta I've had and the wild boar sauce perfect..

Great find on a busy street!
Very impressive atmosphere, presentation, food and wine. Two visits and will be back again. Perfect for a quick bite at the bar or a full sit down meal. Expectional Italian wine list and very affordable per glass prices. Consistently solid and flavorful foods from the buratta appetizers to the pastas to the steak and salmon and canollis. Top that with knowledgeable and professional service this is a great go to place for me and my friends.

We went on a Monday night @ 6 pm before Thanksgiving - guess most folks were out of town. We were the only group in the restaurant at least until 7p. We got excellent service, wonderful tasty appetizers (the small plate veggie ricotta was superb!), and ordered one of the best red wines in the place! The special was filet mignon w/ mushroom-sauce - yummy!! Cooked to perfection :) We were impressed by the desserts - sorbet w/ cookie & cannoli.
