Love our monthly trip to this location. Better now that they've hired another excellent waiter I know from a different locale.

Food is well prepared and authentc. Service on our evening visits has been quite good but we had a hic up with it at lunch the other day. The Manager personally took the time to explain to us that she was unexpectedly short handed and assured us that she was sorry,it wouldn't happen again and she then allowed a reasonable credit to make up for the inconvenience.

French bistro dining at its best
I had chicken w/ sausage and vegetables. The vegetables were done perfectly! Turnips, peas, lots of carrots. The sausage and the sauce were perfect spicing complements to the chicken and vegetables. I asked for a pairing from my waiter. He recommended a pinot grigio. At first taste, it seemed odd, but with the food, it was perfect. Waiter was experienced, attentive, fun, and not condescending or solicitous. The ambiance felt friendly and European. Looking forward to the next visit.

This is an unpretentious restaurant that consistently delivers excellent food. Its decor and ambience are upscale without feeling stiff and overdone. There is no TV at the bar, which I consider a plus.

Despite both steak orders
Despite both steak orders being prepared to the wrong degree of doneness, we enjoyed our dining experience. Service was attentive, wine selection was very good. We would go again.

Mostly positive dining experience
Great food. Waitress had no information about 2 entrees--said it was new menu. Red wines by glass limited. Meritage was spoiled-gone to vinegar. So the beverage staff could do a better job with quality control. I assume the bottle had been open too long. Good is usually excellent but the ambience and service is less exciting.

Exceptional Chestnut Hill food!
Aquitane's (Chestnut Hill section of Newton, MA, on Route 9 eastbound) is delicious and festive, both for special occasions or for making an ordinary night festive. Lemon sole, grilled hangar steak, & 'frites' (gourmet French fries) were particularly delicious choices. A friend's Escargots arrived bubbling cheerfully in a lovely garlic butter. Great beet salad & Brussels sprouts, too. Newly reopened lux movie theatre is walking distance too, creating a fun playdate. Restaurant also less than a mile from Chestnut Hill Mall (Bloomingdales, Crate & Barrel, etc.) Two red flags though: Probably need reservation for Aquitane's, & it is a spendy treat.

This was our first time at this location. Usually we go to the one in the South End. I have to say, that if I have the choice I'll go to Chestnut Hill. The food is delicious. The atmosphere is very welcoming. The tables are well spaced so that you don't feel like you are eaves dropping on the adjacent table. The menu selections were very enticing. A lovely time was had by all.

Three siblings sat and reined for 2 leisurely hours. Food was delicious. No pressure.

All the food was excellent. Would have liked more savory choices but still would highly recommend.

Aquitaine bis has been our
Aquitaine bis has been our favorite for many years, and we have found that after a matinee BSO concert followed by a stop at the art museum and dinner at Acquitaine bis we have missed the Friday afternoon traffic on the turnpike to home in Worcester.
The food is excellent as is the service. We started off with the best very dry Tanqueray martinis in Boston (one wonders how they do it) -- then mussels for an appetizer, scollops for the entree and chocolate pudding cake for dessert -- all excellent. Others in our party were similarly impressed. Try the asparagus salad for a treat.

dinner and conversation
We came with a varied group - some very picky eaters. Everyone found something on the menu and was very happy. Appropriate portions, so no doggie bags! Tasty, well cooked and seasoned. We had steak, 2 kinds, salmon, mussel appetizer - all excellent. Nice selection of wine by the glass and bottle.

a great "local" spot & consistent
It is wonderful to have a consistently strong restaurant that is nearby, with free parking, and interesting menu. That it is in a "strip mall" shopping area in Chestnut Hill may even be improving with the upgrades to the complex! But, once inside, the bistro menu and excellent service have always offset the initial issues of location.

Nice Brunch Place in Chestnut Hill
I met a couple friends here for brunch and had a very pleasant experience. The pre-fixe brunch option is a steal at just $10 for a cinnamon roll, choice of 3 entrees (french toast, omelet, scrambled eggs), coffee/tea, and juice. While the parking lot of a strip mall won't rival the harbor, the decor inside is nice. The bar has proportionally expansive shelves, though only a few beer options. I got a mimosa with brunch, but it seems like this wouldn't be a bad place to grab a drink if the location is convenient. The server was attentive, but not bothersome, and the overall mood was very positive.

Although I was a little taken aback by the fact the restaurant was in the same "strip" as a supermarket, I was delighted once I walked in the door. The atmosphere was very nice, and we were seated at a lovely little corner booth both near the front of the restaurant. My steak frites bernaise was cooked perfectly, with a nice bernaise sauce and accompanied by a very flavorful and fresh salad. The fries were a bit overcooked and I would ask for the sauce on the side next time, since there was too much on the steak. My fellow diners had the sole meuniere and the scallop special and both very very happy with their meal. Dessert was a warm creamy and crunchy creme brulee with fresh fruit. Service was prompt and courteous.

Good choice for Saturday Brunch
Aquitaine never disappoints when it comes to brunch. They have a $9.99 prix fixe that includes a sweet roll (tiny but super tasty), an entree (some eggs, Fr. toast, etc., all filling), juice and coffee/tea. It's hard to beat. Our service this last visit was fine - polite but without personality. Definitely give it a try.

A very Good Experience
A group of four picky customers, none of us had any fault to find with the restaurant, the server or the food.

Most like a real French bistro!
I frequently visit this place, maybe once a month. Have reviewed them before and always favorably. Went this time with someone who had lactose and other dietary issues and they could not have been nicer, changing a couple of dishes so she had the French Bistro experience they deliver so well. Thanks a lot! For anyone with no problems of that kind I highly recommend the mussels, the steak, they have a great hand with soups and a light touch with salads. Best French fries in Boston. And they are very nice people.

Wonderful experience again!
I have had dinner and drinks here before, and this was my first brunch here. Very yummy specials, and very quiet (went on a Saturday.) Would definitely go again.

We took out of town guests for Sunday brunch..they were very impressed! The food was delicious, service was outstanding, and we thoroughly enjoyed this restaurant !!! Parking is plentiful and we can't wait to return..I might add that price is reasonable for an upscale restaurant !

I chose this restaurant because
I chose this restaurant because of their restaurant week luncheon menu. When we arrived we were told that restaurant
week was not starting until dinner that evening (Sunday, August 18). The server told us we were the third person to
inquire about the restaurant week menu and offered his apologies for the confusion. Even so, we had a very nice brunch
and would definitely go there again.

This is a fine restaurant, particularly for lunch where light French style food is good and consistent. It is my least favorite of the many Aquitaine group locations but it is still a good spot for a good meal.

No Hassle Dinner
Since we can walk to this restaurnt, there is no driving or parking pressure. We were seated immediately at the time of our reservation. The waitress was friendly and attentive. Our meal was delicious. The ambiance was lovely. However, since the restaurant was relatively quiet, our 3 course meal was served in 45 minutes, which rushed our anniversary celebration!

Delicious food, great service and we were not rushed at all through our meal. We were able to sit for a long time catching up with friends. Would highly recommend this restaurant.

Great evening out
Had dinner at Aquitaine Bis last Saturday. Service was smooth and attentive. The food was delicious, although just a dab of goat cheese on the beet salad - I was hoping for a little more! The waitress recommended a Cote du Rhone wine which was excellent and not too expensive. A very pleasant experience.

Best steak & frits
In my opinion no other restaurant does steak & frits this good. Also worth mentioning is their killer dessert Pain perdu. When I am indulging in these dishes at Aquataine Bis, I am in heaven. Seems like they have updated their wine list by the glass recently and added some good choices as well. Service is super.

I've been to Aquitane many
I've been to Aquitane many times, and this time it slipped a little. The my soft shell crabs were okay, and the fried potatoes were too salty. My dessert was just okay also. I'll give them another chance, however, because the previous times I went the food was very good.
9/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
The service is friendly, the food is great and the desserts are just delicious. I've eaten at Aquitaine and Aquitaine bis three times now and have never been disappointed.

Great, creative food!
This restaurant should not be overlooked. It more stands out in a busy location. Very good food, creative and interesting. Excellent server ( he really knows the menu well and was very helpful to our group in describing each dish with its taste and presentation) but he was also bar tending and therefore not always available. We really enjoyed our food and were able to talk to eachother and not feel rushed.

Still very nice
We had an excellent overall meal. The Endive & Goat cheese salad was outstanding. Richard's Onion soup was very good as well. My main course was the Filet Au Poive. Excellent very tender & juicy. The dipping sauce that came with it was fantasic. Richard ordered the Wiener Schnitzel. It was very good, but still Wiener Schnitzel. For dessert I had the Pain Perdu. I had this the last time. It's like a crispy french toast..really to die for. Richard had the Tarte Tatin. Very good but he's had better(and makes better, but still very good)The only downside(quite minor, actually) was Jess our server. She really could use more personality. She didn't check on how we liked our meal.Usually I leave at least 20%(or more) for great service.

This was a perfect spot to celebrate a family brunch. The food was excellent and couldn't have asked for a better or more efficient staff. We'll be back for dinner!

Special not so special.
The setting, location and hostess and waitress and busboy were all excellent and very accommodating. Loved the New Zealand sauvignon blanc.
Luncheon special was priced attractively, but was good, not excellent. The warm baguette is excellent!
I would return and order a different selection from the menu. The noise level would have been good if we hadn't been sitting under speaker.
10/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
Had not been back in a long time. The wait was worth it!!!!
10/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
A favorite place for brunch!
Great service and atmosphere. The food has improved, especially the coffee. It's back to the good stuff again. The baked roll was sweet, delicate and buttery. The french toast was like dessert and was served with warm syrup. Yummy! Our waiter was attentive and constantly refilled our coffee cups and sugar/cream supply. We loved our brunch here.
10/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
Charming French bistro in a strip mall. We chanced upon the Prix Fix time frame (5:30-6:30) and were delighted with the choices -- soup or salad, entrees (mussels, salmon or chicken), and choice of chocolate mousse or creme brule, and a glass of red or white wine for $30. The food was excellent and plentiful. Although they do not have a gluten free menu, our waitress assured us that the kitchen was very familiar with the dietary needs and could adjust most dishes. Restaurant was relaxed and wait staff was friendly and very knowledgable. We will definitely be back!

Consistent is the word. That is why we continue to go back for 25 years.
10/30/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food at Aquitaine is delicious, no complaints. However, I booked the table a week in advance, I was the first customer there for dinner and the seating woman gave us the worse table there. Right next to the kitchen. We asked if we could change since NOBODY was there but we were told we couldn't. I seriously do not understand why I got such a bad table. However, the food made up for the bad table.

Always a good experience coming
Always a good experience coming to Aquitaine Bis. The food and service are consistently good.
My only complaint is the weakness of the mixed drinks. My vodka tonic came in a large glass and I wasn't sure if there was any vodka in there at all - just tonic. My companion had one of their signature drinks and also wondered about the alcholhol content. So, I would advise sticking with wine for dinner. Otherwise, a really nice night out!
11/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
We were seated, as requested at a quiet banquette in the back. Much quieter than the front. Food was good, wine was good and dessert was good. We look forward to going back

Very Nice Brunch if you can find it
Google Maps has this lovely restaurant in the Chestnut Hill mall . It is not. It is a half mile East on Route 9 from there. I drove around for a half hour trying to find it as the woman on the phone did not know east/west/north/south just left and right. Once I got there they were very nice and the food delicious. The prix fixe brunch very reasonable. Would highly recommend just don't use Google Maps to get there. They are in the strip mall with the Star Market - a chain supermarket and west of the CVS. Also dont use google maps for the Star market either.

A touch of Paris
I love dining at Aquitaine. It evokes feelings of being in a Paris Bistro. The food and service are excellent. The noise level is never a problem. Too many local restaurants are so noisy that it is impossible to carry on a conversation with dinner partners. The diners at Aquitaine seems to appreciate the dining courtesy that one observes in Parisian restaurants.
