The experience of dining at Avant was phenomenal! The passion and talent of Chef Nicholas Bour come through in every mouth-watering bite. The staff was attentive but not overbearing; the ambiance relaxing and romantic. The extensive wine cellar is a welcome addition to Southern California fine dining. They even have a chic demo kitchen for private dinners for you and your friends to experience the creations of Chef Nicholas in an intimate setting. Thank you to all for a superb experience!

The food was very tasty and cooked to perfection. My husband and I dined at Avant on July 13th. We are staying at the RBInn for the third time in 5 years. We started with appetizers, the chef's choice half dozen oysters, chef's deviled eggs, the corn crusted calamari and the seared ahi. You will also be served a warm and delightful baguette! My husband also ordered Mary's free range chicken for his entree and he had the Ultimate Martini and I a Mojito. Every single dish was worth the price because they were absolutely delicious. The ambiance--great and the staff was attentive. I would definitely go again and recommend the restaurant.

Fresh new look
The owners of the RBI sunk a reputed $650K into the renovation of their high-end restaurant, and they got their money's worth. What a visual treat! From the chandeliers to the flooring to the wood panelling to the tasteful use of stone, Avant is a joy just to sit in. And then there's the food!

Calling all foodies! This is a place for you! The food was delicious! The prosciutto and chesses were delicious and just melted in our mouths. All the condiments like the fig jam and their homemade mustard served with the meat and cheese platter were delish. The crab and avocado salad with citrus was very refreshing and full of texture and flavor. We appreciated all the details in plating and presentation.

We went to AVANT on 4th of July weekend, and had an excellent time. A friend had recommended the restaurant and we were too eager to try, and we are glad AVANT did not dissapoint us. We walked into the restaurant and were blown away with the decor and lighting...it feels like you are in a very nice and comfortable living room but not at a restaurant...the tone is relaxed and no one seems to be in a rush...hostess were a delight...so cheerful......servers are friendly and well trained.....we were seated right away, and were told about the signature cocktails, and charcutiere bar....wine list of was extensive and interesting....loved deviled eggs and scallops...hubby loved the lamb....overall a great experience....

It was a very enjoyable experience all the way around.We would recommend this restaurant for people who like tasteful,fresh,healthy food.There is a nice amount that is served, and in our case we had more then our stomachs could handle.You get a lot for your buck here.We plan on going back real soon.

Bring a Jacket
We dine downstairs on the Veranda frequently, and although outdoors, there are heaters, so a light sweater if enough.
In Avant, we were indoors, as we expected, and did not bring jackets. With every possible window and sliding glass door open the entire night, it was as if we were outdoors without patio heaters or a jacket. Cranked up the heater when we got back to our car.
I recommend for special occasion as it was easy to get expensive. 3 people was $180.

Decor is elegant but casual. Service is spectacular. Menu has many price points. Many opportunities to share and experiment. Our yable four tried 7 different plates. We were 7 for 7!
They were fun creative flavorful. The scallops were unanimous favorites. The Frenchie flatbread surprised everyone for its great flavor. The service was perfect and professional. This is a lost art at most restaurants.
I would drive a long distance to eat here again!

Recently had brunch at Avant which is served Sat., and Sun. LOVED the new entry, bar and casual elegant dining. Just a superb make over. The staff was very attentive, but then again there was hardly anyone there at noon for brunch. The restaurant has only been open a very short time, and do not think too many know about a GRAND re-opening other than locals. Worth a visit just to see this wonderful new dining room and bar. The semi-outdoor area, with fireplace and couch seating looked very inviting.
The menu is more affordable (a good thing). While descriptions are tantalizing, the reality is they were just good not stellar. Ordered eggs benedict. Small amt. of king crab and hollandaise. The eye appeal and flourish just wasn't there.

Great food and service, beautiful
Excellent food and service. Ask for Blake as your waiter. He is the best. The four of us dined on deviled eggs with a spot of ahi on top, calamari, scallops, duck, sea bass, red quinoa and avocado salad. We tried four different desserts and loved them all. The atmosphere is casual with an indoor/outdoor feeling. The wine selection is extensive and varied. Chef Nicholas was milling about visiting with diners - - if felt like you were a guest in his home. We were celebrating a birthday. The restaurant went out of their way to make us feel welcomed and appreciated. We will definately return to this lovely restaurant.

We used to go to El Bizcocho for special occasions. We really liked it. We were very happy with the remodel and Avant. The small plate menu was different and the choices we received delicous. I would highly recommend Avant.

Huge welcome change
Small plates are highly recommended, many truly world class, such as the heritage beets and thr rillette. Great value too, good wine by carafe at very reasonable cost ($30 Oregon pinot noir). Cactus salad with calamari s great as were sauces. Shared 6 small plates plus desert at very reasonable cost. Please support this rare gem of tasty well prpepared food that is quite rare in the area

Night at Avant
This is a great spot tucked away in Rancho Bernarno. The service was top notch , the food was excellent, as was the atmosphere.
If you need a ton of food to be filled up have a snack or a few of the appetizers befor the main course. The main touches on French
Dining and the portions were moderately sizes. Overall a great experience.

Fantastic Food and Service!
We were there to celebrate an anniversary dinner. I am local to RB and this restaurant was remodeled and only open a short time. The menu was eclectic, the food was very good, and our server Blake was fantastic. We will definitely be back!

Great neighborhood find!
The renovation exceeded my expectations. Beautifully done! The staff very friendly. Even got a tour of the new kitchen where small groups can see cooking demonstration and enjoy intimate dinner together. Nice to have such fresh ingredients from their own garden too! Food delicious and specialty drinks unique and tasty. Well done! Great neighborhood gem!

We had such a wonderful evening! Celebrated my wife's birthday......she was happy so I was happy! Food and service were exceptional.
Only 'criticism' was that the menus were printed so small. Our server explained to us that the meat, cheese and oyster choices were not up to us but to the chef and availability. Still a work in progress?
Also noted there were really no individual tables for two.

Anniversary dinner was a hit!
We don't get out much with a 1 & 3 year old, but this place made me want to come back again and again! I had the la Paloma drink to start and we shared the DELISHIOUS meat and cheese plates as well as the home grown tomato salad with burrata cheese and the rib eye. Everything was spectacular. Usually my favorite part of going out is the dessert, but the fondue for two wasn't my favorite. I'd still recommend trying it out though, the mood is fantastic!

I tasted the pork loin and the chicken with grits. Both were presented and cooked well. I was disappointed in the flavors as neither
chicken but especially the pork loin was without flavor. The meat was bland. The sauces attempted to cover up the fact that the meat was tasteless.
Otherwise we had a very nice evening with friends.

We enjoyed the atmosphere , Our waiter was a bit green but honest about it and sweet. everything came on time and I like his attention to detail regarding sparkling champagne glasses... We enjoyed the chefs selection of meats and cheeses very much. The cold pea soup was refreshing and my chicken was excellent . The salmon which was recomended by the waiter was not exciting and in fact boring.. we shared the chicken and took the salmon home. next time we would try the bass and stay away from Salmon.
We waited much too long in an empty lobby by ourselves for the valet guy..who was not parking a car at the time..irritating .

We love the menu. So much to choose from. The steak was amazing. The duck fantastic. The portion size is small, so order small plates with your big plates if you are really hungry.

Perfect dinner for our Anniversary
Janice and I spent our 29th Anniversary at Avant. The atmosphere was perfect. Excellent table service! Exceptional wine selections and the food meet both of our needs. Recommend this restaurant for a quiet dinner with your family, friends, or just the two of you.

The previous El Bizcocho at the Rancho Bernardo Inn has been reborn as Avant and it's a super addition to the dining in the area. Warm, inviting dining room; comfortable booths and banquettes; varied menu of small plates and entrees with fresh, locally-sourced items in appeal combinations. Wine list, too, has a very nice selection.

We really enjoyed our dinner
We really enjoyed our dinner at AVANT. The space is contemporary and open, a huge change in style and ambience from the previous restaurant in that location. Good service that was professional but also personal. The chef, Nick, came out and spoke with us and was really intent on making sure we were having a good experience. We had several small plate items, all of which we enjoyed. A solid evening. We'll go back.

Avant is a beautiful restaurant at the Rancho Bernardo Inn. The restaurant replaced El Bizcocho with updated décor and a smaller menu. The only reason for not rating the food higher is that our main course selections arrived lukewarm. The manager was very helpful with this situation. We are going to give Avant another try after the holidays.

Avant is Rancho Bernardo's Finest!
I have lived in the RB area for 30 years and Avant is the new hot spot for a casual dinner or fine dinning. THe food is exceptional and so is the service. The ambiance is warm and inviting and the views of the golf course are great during the day. I have been coming at least twice a week since Avant opened and the chief has done an outstanding job to source only the finest ingredients and his preparations are exquisite.
My wife is vegetarian and they have several choices that are wonderful for her. The cheese plates are yummy and so are the desserts.

Wonderful Dining Experience

Although this restaurant is a little pricey and the portions are a bit small, overall it is a wonderful place to feel at ease. The servers were outstanding and the comfort and feel of the location was elegant yet not stuffy. The food was delicious!

They remodeled and renamed the restaurant at Rancho Bernardo. It is now more of the trendy location with tables adjacent to each other, rather than separated. That said, the food and service were very good, just don't expect privacy, as the next table is 1 foot away.

We visited avant on a Saturday night to celebrate a special occasion. From the minute we walked in to the time we left our experience was outstanding in every way. The receptionist accommodated a table request, the service was prompt and friendly and the atmosphere first class. The food was well prepared and the right portions. Our group enjoyed the cheese plates, quinoa salad, salmon, steak, lamb and halibut and all raved about the flavor and quality of the entree and side dishes. Finally inland north county has a first class dining experience for all to enjoy. The RB Inn is a charming and relaxing environment for this fine establishment. Congratulations to Nicholas and his staff for a phenomenal experience.

Great Food Flavors
The three of us share a waitress recommended salumni flatbread appetizer that was fabulous. Then we all had the same small plates of pear and Dungeness crab salads. The flavors were all vibrant; that's the best way to describe them. Our waitress was helpful and friendly, but not overbearing. The whole experience was most enjoyable. The only small complaint might be that the prices on the wine by the glass were a little high, so we all shared a bottle. We all loved the food.

Selected Avant to celebrate a family milestone. We were first time diners at this restaurant and enjoyed a wonderful dinner and dining experience. Menu is somewhat "nouvelle", but beautifully put together and the taste combinations were fantastic. Service was exceptional as well. Highly recommend.

Terrific Food in a Great Setting
Our second dinner at Avant proved to us that they are on to a good thing at the Rancho Bernardo Inn. Ambiance, service and food were all tops! The quail over sweet corn risotto is a four star hit! Our server and the rest of the staff were friendly, helpful and attentive.

Will be Getting Better
We enjoyed the food which was excellent. We thought the dining area temperature was too cold and very noisy. We were near the window and bar area. The wait staff was excellent but the service was fairly slow between courses or items we ordered. The wine choices were very nice. We would attend again but not for a special evening just a meal in the area and we live close. We miss a bit the old style and quiet of the former room.

Absolutely Incredible !!!
Best kept secret in San Diego.
What an absolutely incredible experience from the modern updated décor, awesome staff and yummy food.
The night started off with some superb entertainment in the downstairs pub--WOW the singer was superb- American Idol quality-Not some Vegas or Cruise show talent. The renovation is absolutely incredible and that is outclassed by the staff and food. We had a variety of dishes- Apps, starters and meals- No one was disappointed with the quality of the food and everyone raved about their dishes.
( Pig Ears Rock (Pork rinds with a fried egg)-- Emerald Lagasse would be so proud) The old RB Inn is back on top and we'll be back real soon. Hopefully, we can get a table.

We had a delicious flatbread appetizer as well as mussels - lovely presentation -
Dinner was tasty and beautifully presented - I shared the steak with a friend - someone had the halibut which was perfectly
Desserts were lovely - The birthday dessert was awesome - the berry tart.

I didn't like the noise level
I didn't like the noise level and I would rate the squash soup a "B". My husband enjoyed his pork tenderloin although it was pricey for the amount of food you get. The mac and cheese was awesome. The dessert menu seemed a bit boring.
However, I loved the ambiance, the scallops, the chicken and the calamari.
I would go back to check out some of the other items on the menu.
