May be Boston's only world
May be Boston's only world class restaurant. Everything you'd expect at this price point. Food exquisite. Presentation immaculate. Service casual, knowledgeable and always ready. Owners present, welcoming and available but not pushy. We've eaten at El Bulli, Taillevent, Tetsuya, Per Se. ... this is easily their equal. Chef trained at Nobu but this leaves it for dead.
We ate here two nights ago and went to No 9 Park last night...according to the reviews here a restaurant of equivalent quality. Not on the same planet.
If, like us, you're willing to travel to eat the best O Ya must go on your list.

Best Japanese Restaurant...?
Food never fails to disappoint. Simply, in my opinion, O Ya is the Best Japenese restaurant in Boston, leagues ahead of Oishii in terms of service and food quality.

Well worth the wait for a reservation to O Ya, sat at the chef counter and really had a great time.

This place is amazing. Food
This place is amazing. Food and service is off the hook. Now I just need to save up for two years so I can go again. A little ridiculous honestly. I mean the food is outstanding but dinner no where should be $500 for two people.

Another Great Experience
Had yet another wonderful experience at O Ya with the Grand Omakase. Great service, fun waiter, over all lovely.
Wish I could add more value to my review but really, O Ya is nothing but a fantastic experience and I cannot wait for another excuse to go back.

second time at o-ya
The first time was so good that we went back again! I'm a lucky girl. This time we picked our own menu -- even the shorter omakase was just too much last time. This time round we thought the nigiri and sashimi sections are way better -- zingier, more inventive, elegant -- than the rest. Some of the non-fish things were trying too hard: the daikon dumplings were over-decorated and without much taste. But some standout sashimi: diver scallops with sage tempura, arctic char, all exquisite, memorable dishes.
An upgrade of the wine list is sorely needed: it's much too short and not very inventive. It could use some half-bottles to enable people to mix up their choices, ideal over a long meal. There should be a champagne by the glass.

I wasnt too sure what to expect but the food blew me away. The food presentation was very nice and I was very pleased with the service. I definitely recommend anyone to try this place if they could. The restaurant is definitely a hidden gem.
5/9/2013 4:00:00 PM
We started the evening on shaky ground. I arrived to a very tiny room with a bunch of open seats but had to wait until the servers could figure out where to put us. However everything went straight up from there. The food was incredible. The wine pairing our waiter suggested was out of this world. The only drawback is the price. We have eaten all over the world, in many expensive restaurants. This however was slightly over the top. Over $400 and not feeling incredibly full. However the tastes were beyond imaginable. I would only suggest this restaurant for a very special occasion. If you go, sit back, enjoy, and forget about what the bill will be.

We went to celebrate my birthday
We went to celebrate my birthday and it was truly AMAZING! The food is OUTSTANDING! I am still thinking about the wonderful meal I had.
This is definitely one of my Top Two places in Boston!
5/15/2013 4:00:00 PM
Really nice place for "small plates" and many courses. Probably take at least 6 to make a meal. Be ready for an expensive meal but worth it. The bill will make you look twice.

One of my favorite Japanese
One of my favorite Japanese restaurants. I'm sad I didn't discover it until now, but I will definitely be back!

Delicious but overpriced
Have a snack before you go, and then enjoy sumptuous flavor explosions at $10/bite.
6/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
Very good but pricey!
Very good food and excellent service but overpriced for sure. I enjoyed every morsel but left hungry after the 17 course tasting menu with pairing.

Worth the hype
A highly upscale restaurant set in the center of the Financial District.
Service is exceptional. All the staff were great! More than ready to answer our questions about the menu and are totally aware of every item! Would recommend it for the very special occasions because of the pricey aspect. The best part is the way they would accommodate customization in the food just so that you could sit back and enjoy your experience! Like, all my orders of Sashimi and nigiri have been cooked per request.
Definite must-try for the Sushi lovers!

A unique but overpriced restaurant
A very, very good meal. They clearly choose the very best ingredients and have inventive twists on bringing out the flavor of the fish.
However, there are slight flaws in execution: a questionable wine pairing, a few items in the omakase that were either bad or too salty. These things shouldn't happen when a restaurant charges so much (about $400/person in our case). In some items, the flavor of the sauce/toppings totally overpower that of the fish (or the main vegetable). They can get away with charging this much in Boston, but in NYC there are comparable restaurants where you can dine for half the price.
It's not a restaurant to return to very often. I went for the second time in two years and found myself slightly bored with the menu.
7/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
Our date night dining at o ya was sophisticated in every way yet equally friendly and comfortable. The manager/owner and staff sets a unique tone that makes everyone feel welcome during their dining experience and ensures that your dining experience meets your expectations. The food is absolutely top notch. There is true art in the presentation of the food and its combined flavors. I look forward to returning for another special occasion. Thank you o ya!
7/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
This is the best restaurant in US and almost in the world. I know that it's not afforable for everybody but if you can... Of course you must like japanese food! Not for Burguer's lovers.
7/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
Amazing food and service!
Chose this place to celebrate my husband's birthday who isn't much of a fish eater. He absolutely loved every single dish. Great place for date nights. Food was phenomenal! Service was fantastic. Five stars in my book. Definitely coming back.
8/2/2013 12:00:00 AM
Amazing flavors, sushi magicians and excellent staff. Be sure to book in advance ( couples definitely will want to sit at the bar) . Watching the "show" adds to the experience. There is a reason why O Ya is always ranked as a top sushi restaurant : consistent excellence.

O ya never fails. The most
O ya never fails. The most eclectic sushi. New York sushi lowers make a pilgrimage yearly for this gem. This is our fifth trip and we are as amazed as day one.
8/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
You ask: "How was o ya?"
O ya is always a sublime experience, so you don't need to ask any more! We've had the tremendous good fortune of eating at o ya many times, and we've never been anything but awed. The Grand Omakase offered several new ingredients & flavor combinations this time, so it is definitely worth re-visiting.

We had a wonderful experience
We had a wonderful experience at O Ya. It is a small very welcoming spot with a menu that absolutely blew us away. We decided to do the chef's grand tasting experience. This was probably the most expensive meal I have ever had but also the most interesting. We had some dietary preferences that the staff easily accomodated and substituted wondeful items.
This was the most interesting sushi I have ever had. The flavor combinations and presentation were outstanding. The chefs were happy to interact with us and explain the dishes as well as answer questions.
The sushi bar experience was one that is hard to find in Boston. We interacted with our neighbors and had a wonderful evening.
I just wish I could afford to go here more often!

A unique dining experience for the sushi lover! Nowhere else is quite like it. Exceptional food served like a piece of art!!

Some of the best sushi I've had yet. Spent some time in Japan and their quality was comparable with
some of the best places I've been to. Their fusion ideas came to fruition with near perfection and the delivery
was unparalleled. I will definitely be back!

O Ya = O Yea!
Very expensive, but a very memorable experience. The flavors and combinations are extraordinary, unique and very memorable. The foie Gras = Amazing. Mildly dissapointed with the tempora shrimp. As per their theme)each dish consists of only a few pieces of sushi, we underwent 16 courses + shared a single 'bite' of delicious desert and had homemade chocolates. The bill total after 20% tip was 350ish. I must say, never in my life have I left a restaurant still hungry, but SO satisfied with the experience that I didn't care for more food. I must emphasize, this is a VERY special occasion eatery and simply understand that it's small tasting dining and judge whether or not it is worth it for you. We will return!
9/3/2013 12:00:00 AM
I came with my husband to try O Ya because we had a gift certifcate that my sister had given to us - and she highly recommended this place. Although O Ya was probably the priciest sushi place I've ever been to, their sushi is definately worth trying! I wouldn't necessarily come back on a regular basis, but for special occasions. This tiny place has a very intimate setting - even when seated at the sushi bar counter. It was very interesting to see your sushi being prepped and made right before your eyes. The wait staff and hostesses' services was very professional and helpful. Our waitress was kind enough to give a rundown of their menu. The staff was very attentive to our needs. It was a great experience!
9/4/2013 12:00:00 AM
Best sushi we've ever had
Even though we had read the reviews, we were still surprised and amazed by the quality, complexity, and deliciousness of the sushi. We were so overwhelmed by the menu that we decided to do the omakase menu and let the chef decide for us. We are so glad we did. Every single dish made our jaws drop. We were so impressed that we canceled our dinner plans elsewhere 2 days later so we can go again before we leave Boston.

Still Boston's Best
The best meals we've ever had have been at o ya. Each small bite is a marvel.
9/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
It was the best food I eaten in a long time. The sushi chefs were great. My date and I sat at the sushi bar and I suggest the bar because the chefs present and explain the dish.

Best Restaurant in the World!
I have been fortunate to dine at quite a few three star Michellen-rated restaurants around the world. I think O Ya is better than all of them! The food is inventive and every, mouth-watering morsel is beyond-my-senses amazing. Can't say enough good things about O Ya.
9/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
It was a wonderful experience
It was a wonderful experience but each bite is very small and expensive. If you are a purist for sushi this won't do as a lot is with

Truly amazing food & service
I come to Boston once a year for a medical congress.
But I am starting to think that I mostly keep coming back for the ultimate decadence and pleasure of eating at O Ya.
I don't know anything else like it.
I had the same server this time around.
He was so attentive and he took care of me as if I was his only client.
Even thought I was alone, and not dressed very hip.
His recommendations were, as always, the best.
And it is so amazing to have the privilege to see the chefs at work.
They say that the mark of a truly amazing restaurant, is when people keep traveling back to visit it. A true foodie destination.
O Ya is that kind of restaurant.
Please pardon my french if my english is not perfect. :)
10/5/2013 12:00:00 AM
I brought my husband here for his birthday, and it was perfect. We had a 17 course sampler meal. Our waiter was fabulous and asked our likes/dislikes and customized the entire experience for us. We were not rushed at all. Our waiter was extremely knowledgable about the sushi as well as the sake pairings. I would definitely go back again.
10/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
Outstanding Food & Service!!!
Each time I visit O Ya I leave with my mind blown. The dishes are beautiful and delicious with a perfect balance of acid, salt & sweetness (where appropriate). It is one of the best places for uni in the world. If you love uni you must sample every preparation.
They also work magic with white truffles when they are in season. O Ya is an experience and it comes dear. I would much rather save my dining dollars for O Ya and have a magical experience than waste them on several ho-hum meals. If you are into raw fish, this is the place but the menu contains so much more that's all crazy good. O YA, Oh Yeah!!!
10/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
This is the place you go to eat your last meal before you die. Seriously. Superlatives are inadequate to describe the quality of the food. It is also a budget-busting indulgence for my bestie and me every one to two years. We ordered the grand omakasé (21 course tasting menu) which was perfectly paired with a variety of sakés and wine. We indulged even more and got a course of Kobé beef. Each course consists of one to two bites of unbelievable deliciousness and perfection. The range of flavors over the course of the meal goes from the light, refreshing taste of the ocean to the complex flavors of the forest. We left feeling satisfied, but not full, delighted and well taken care of. O Ya is a place like no other.
10/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
Outstanding food, excellent service. Pricey, but worth it for a special occasion!
11/1/2013 12:00:00 AM
Expensive but worth every penny!
Amazing food! Sit at the bar where you can watch the chefs skillfully prepare dishes (and get ideas for what you may want to order next). The waiters are very warm and knowledgable - tell them a few things you like/dislike and they can recommend the perfect dishes for your evening. The tasting menu is a very reliable choice.

Best restaurant in Boston
I could not be more impressed. Our server, Maggie, was the perfect combination of genuine, sweet, knowledgeable and helpful. Never hovering and never absent, she was excellent throughout our 2.5 hour meal. We sat at the bar (I recommend over the tables which could feel a bit sterile) and were able to watch the chefs' preparations. It was so fun. The wine list is excellent. The atmosphere is simple but clean and interesting and the excitement of watching some of the most inventive cuisine in Boston. LOVED IT.

Lives up to its reputation
Excellent and imaginative food. We've been to other places that try this approach and fail because they focus more on technique than taste but Oya gets it all right.
11/21/2013 4:00:00 PM
O Ya's is awesome!
Fantastic sushi, sashimi, and other delights like none you have ever tasted. Every course is full of wonderful tastes that will excite your palate. Just be ready to drop a lot of money as these exquisite flavors as they don't come cheap but are worth the money.
11/25/2013 4:00:00 PM
outstanding indescribable sushi
the tasting menu was superb; i do not know how other more expensive japanese restaurants can be any better than this. every bite was sublime and surprisingly tasty; the foie gras with the balsamic vinegar and chocolate is heavenly- why did i not think of that!!
11/29/2013 4:00:00 PM
Wonderful sushi/sashimi creations!
The O Ya experience was absolutely wonderful. We sat at the end of the sushi bar and we could see the chefs preparing everything. The items on omekase were selected for us, avoiding a few things we don't care much for. I've never had such wonderfully prepared sushi with great combinations of flavors at any other restaurant. Hands down the best!
