Still A Favorite
We discovered East of Eighth several years ago and have enjoyed dining there ever since. The food is creative, generous, and very reasonably priced, except their various specials which are absolute bargains. The wine list is similarly reasonable. If you can, ask to sit in the garden.

Three generations enjoyed a family brunch this weekend. The five year old was happily watching the fishes in the pond and thought he spotted a "shark". In season we always enjoy the pretty garden hidden from the noise and traffic of NYC. Brunch is an excellent value with enough variety to please all and the kids were happy with the chocolate chip/banana pancakes.

Food was tastier on earlier
Food was tastier on earlier visits, but it is still a fine setting for a meal.

Sunday Garden Brunch
It was perfect for our party of six to sit outside by the zen garden and have a delicious brunch. I had guests from NJ and Chicago in and they loved the food, the garden, the service. Excellent experience.

Lovely garden and nice for brunch
This was my second time at this restaurant and my first sitting in the garden. It's very pretty and offers lots of shade. The food is consistantly good and reasonably priced. Our server was friendly and efficient. I'm not crazy about the upstairs dining room; It's a little dreary. But, overall, it's a solid choice and even my daughter, who is notoriously picky, liked it.

a perennial favorite`
I have been to East of Eighth 4 times in the last weeks -with different dining companions, to introduce them to this gem, or simply to return with friends... I love this restaurant -- everything about it is just right, and now with the garden open... perfect!

My guest and I had a wonderful evening. We really enjoyed our food selections.
The service was well paced (especially once our waiter realized we wanted more time to enjoy our drinks and look at
our menu selections). We were not rushed, which is always a concern to me.

Good food, great service,
Good food, great service, and gorgeous ambiance. Dine in the garden if you can!

East of Eighth is a great place for Brunch. The Backyard dining is quiet, with nice landscaping and the brunch menu provides a nice selection of choices.

Great Bar B Q
We went on July 4 for their annual Chicago style Bar B Q buffet. It was great. Food was cooked just right, the meat fell off the bone and the chicken was tender. The choice of sides was abundant.

The host was very accomidating. We thought we might have a change for the number for Brunch. The host didn't blink an eye at the change. All was accomidated and the brunch was great.

Originally made online reservations for the Tuesday night "all you can eat BBQ". Got a call a few hours before dinner to inform us that they no longer have the BBQ every Tuesday night & the garden was closed due to the heat. I had wanted to go for a long time & was disappointed.
I was pleasantly surprised with the new menu which was overhauled since my last visit. I went with one of the specials...coconut lime scallops on a bed of rice mixed with either spinach or another leafy green. It was absolutely delicious & a lot healthier than all the BBQ meat I would have eaten. All 4 of us chose seafood dishes. The seared Ahi Tuna was rare as described & very generously portioned. The salmon was also great. Planning on dining here more often!

Great Pre-Fixe Menu
You can't beat their $20 pre-fix menu, featuring lamb, chicken, pasta, and various veggie choices. The service was attentive. We were sitting in the garden area, which has a fountain and pond, and koi. I highly recommend it.

Nice place for a casual meal
We sat in the pleasant little outdoor area which features a fountain and pond. Food is light and well prepared. Wait staff are efficient and friendly but not intrusive. We were celebrating a birthday and got a complimentary brownie sundae with candle but don't know if that's standard procedure.

Great food and a great value.
I and a friend had dinner and were extremely please. I had the Lobster Salad to start and my friend had the Cesar Salad. For the main course I had the lamb chops (3 thick chops) and my friend had the seared tuna. Both were prepared perfectly. For desert we share a dark chocolate cake with cherry filling and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. It was more than the two of us could finish even though we both loved it. A great place for dinner!

We enjoyed our dinner in the garden retreat. We are so glad that this restaurant is in our Chelsea neighborhood, so we get to enjoy there garden spot often.

mid summer night's dream
Busy night so service team was streatched. Notwithstanding that the food is always good and the waiters are wonderful. The outdoor seating was perfect for the beautiful weather we had. I love the community at East of Eight.

Always worth a visit
Food is good and reasonable and outdoor "backyard" is a plus. Worth the visit.

Cant complain about anything, service was excellent, food was great. Went on a first date and it honestly couldnt have been a better spot to sit down, eat some great food, have some great drink, and great conversation.

Great spot in Chelsea
Four of us had dinner here on a Wednesday night. Three of the group ordered from the special pre-theater menu. It was an excellent value and had various options. One person ordered from the Wed night specials menu. All were good. The flourless cake desert was excellent and the fruit crisp was very good. We were especially thankful for the various gluten-free options since one person in our party has gluten issues.

Our first, but not last time at this wonderful restaurant. Four first timers who eat out in New York a LOT, and are all very discriminating foodies. We all enjoyed everything we ordered (Lobster and asparagus appetizer - EXCELLENT, Rack of Lamb main course - as good as any expensive restaurant). There were Saturday night specials, pre-theater fixed price menu, regular menu with mid-priced meals. Very courteous and efficient service with a smile. Looking forward to our next visit!

Brunch with out of town friends
I brought a bunch of out of town friends here for brunch this past Saturday (Sept. 14). There were 7 of us total, all coming from different places at different times, but the restaurant was very accommodating. The server was really nice (forget his name- he is a student at FIT) and was very helpful, friendly, and pleasant to talk to. The breakfast pre-fix included coffee or tea (any tea), a mimosa or bloody mary (with second one half off), a bread basket, and an entree. The portions were large and very few of us were able to finish our meal, but it was all incredible. After a great meal, I looked outside at the garden which seems great for warmer weather and private events, but unfortunately it was closed.

A New York Treasure
We found this restaurant on Open Table and took a chance. It was terrific. Unknown to us, there was a lovely outdoor dining area lush with trees and plants where we were seated. We noticed that there was only one server for about 14 tables and thought that this would be a poor service evening. We were wrong, the one server, Richard was a powerhouse. Organized, friendly, but focused, and amazing to watch. Service could not have been better. We had the daily fixed price dinner for $19.95 that included a glass of good wine. Swordfish on polenta and the Tiger Shrimp were both outstanding. A great find and a place to which we would return. Martini's were great too.
9/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
Nice down to earth place. Good to meet friends. Bread basket corona mugfins excellent. Wish they offered burgers but a drink and brunch for 16.00 is reasonable for what they do have. Garden is pleasant, service decent, wait staff friendly if a little slow. Overall a B +

This is a perfect pre-theatre restaurant. Unique, delicious and fresh food....quick and friendly service and great prices!
9/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great food at an unbelievable price. The prix fixe is a great bargain.
9/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
We really enjoyed East of Eighth. They have a wonderful pre-theatre menu (which I didn't know before making reservation). The selections were numerous and extremely reasonably priced. A real great find. We would definitely go back.

We were engaged here in 2008. So it was only beffitting this would be the place to renew our vows five years later. As usual, the staff exceded our expectations. The food was awesome, staff were extremely accomdating and professional. Oh did I say the food was AWESOME. Great great great place for events. All of our friends ejoyed themselves. We loved the personalized menues, great unexpected touch.....
9/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
When I made the reservation, I told them it was my wife's birthday, and asked if they could acknowledge it in some way. When we got there everyone wished my wife a Happy Birthday. There were balloons at the table. They served a delicious brownie and ice cream dessert with a candle in it (without being asked). Everything about the experience was absolutely delightful. We'll certainly make a point of going back as often as we can, even though we live many miles away.

Great patio dining
Patio dining area very beautiful with palm trees and a fountain. I loved sitting at a corner table under a palm tree! The menu is awesome with wonderful choices. They serve a basket of fresh baked breads including whole wheat and our favorite of focaccia with a side of pureed carrots. We shared the duck quesadilla and loved it. Nice large portion stuffed with duck accompanied by a sour cream relish. I ordered the pesce soup loaded with shrimp, scallops, clams, mussels, and chunks of white fish and lobster prepared with a lobster broth. So delicious! My friend had the very generous portion of 3 thick cut lamb chops encrusted with pistachios served with a quinoa side. Great wine list & wait staff. Dessert was a vanilla topped pecan brownie.
10/4/2013 12:00:00 AM
I eat here numerous times during the year and have always found the service very polite, the upstairs dining room quiet for conversation and the food very good. The food is also reasonably priced, which is not easy to find these days in Chelsea.

yum yum brunch
Delicious food, gracious service. Will continue to return as often as possible
10/20/2013 12:00:00 AM

Great Pre Theater $20 prix fixe
Excellent three course menu with wide choices for each course. Friendly and efficient service.
10/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great place, interesting food.
I had the butternut squash ravioli and it was fantastic. Others in our group (there were nine) were all happy with their food as well. The noise was moderate but we were in the enclosed patio out back, it could be much louder inside at the bar. They had are reservation done, no problem and the group was seated comfortably. I would definitely recommended this for a friend.

A Chelsea Gem
Been going to East of Eighth since it opened. A Chelsea institution now. Reliably good food, friendly service. The chef will tailor dishes to taste, food sensitivities. What else is there to say?

Wednesday in the city
This was a perfect spot! The staff was attentive and just the right amount of friendly! There were 6 women in our party and we were seated upstairs in near the window. It was great to have the light and to watch the people on the sidewalks. There was something on the menu for each one of us. After lunch, we went downstairs and asked one of the staff members about the 'patio are'. He gave us a short, but thorough tour of the area. So glad we found this spot on opentable!

This is where I go for lunch
This is where I go for lunch whenever I can on my visits to the city from NJ. The food is good, the service friendly and efficient, and the entire ambience comfortable and welcoming. The noise level is low; so it is a place where one can feel quite private and converse without difficulty. Characteristically, when you order a glass of wine, you get a generous serving. The menu is varied and the prices extremely reasonable.

First time at East of Eighth
First time and East of Eighth....and i would go back again. Our party of three all opted for the prix fixe theatre menu. Very nice seasonal offerings, and great value for our $20. Everyone liked their choice of wine/cocktail, too. Service was friendly and efficient. A good place to go in Chelsea!

This is the 5th time i have been to this restaurant and they never dissappoint. Very consistant food and service.

A real gem
Third time I've been to East of Eighth and has never disappointed. We brought guests from Europe and they loved it, too. The food was excellent, service was just right, and the upstairs dining room noise level was low enough so we could actually hear each other talk without shouting. Hooray for this! This is one of my real favorites for dinner - a moderately priced menu (from burgers to rack of lamb -- which by the way, was one of the best I have ever had). Will return again and again when I am in NY CIty.
11/10/2013 4:00:00 PM
s small issue?
The couscous &/or the quinoa had some sort of grit in them. They were replaced.
11/15/2013 4:00:00 PM
Family from near and far
We had a great time -- all 11 of us from as far away as Hawaii, California, and Israel, enjoyed good food and the back room where we could move around and catch up or call across the tables without fear of annoying other diners. Service staff was wonderful and most everyone enjoyed their meal choices.
11/18/2013 4:00:00 PM
We booked a brunch here because we were staying in the area, but regardless, it was a great bargain and excellent meal.

Our favorite Chelsea restaurant!!
We have been going there for over three years now. Never have we had anything but a good meal and great service. We had Thanksgiving dinner fhere, and went back the very next night with out of town friends for dinner. The food is high quality and fresh ... The presentation is always lovely ... The wait staff is always professional, courteous and attentive ... We always leave feeling full, relaxed and satisfied. My only criticism is the chairs are slightly small and a little on the firm side. I'd like to see them replaced some time in the future, but that would never stop me from returning..
11/27/2013 4:00:00 PM
Good Chelsea bet
very pleased with this before theater dinner--near the Irish Rep. Would recommend for anyone looking for a casual but good bite to eat with a nice ambience and reasonable prices.

Great Brunch Menu
We live in the neighborhood and have had dinner here but never brunch until this week. The menu is diverse and interesting and the 2nd brunch cocktail is half price. Great idea! Three of us ate and all really liked our food and it is a good price --under $20. One of my favorite things about this restaurant is the noise level is usually low and the table are a nice distance apart. . Also the bar is downstairs and the tables upstairs which separates the noise. It is next door to Chelsea Cinema so an excellent before or after a movie

Long-time diner writes
I have been dining at East of Eighth for many years and have always enjoyed my meals here. The present menu has variety to satisfy any customer. The staff is helpful and friendly. When dining early, I appreciate the Pre Fixe Menu for its value as well as the Sunday "Nights".
