I really love this place.
I really love this place. I hadn't realized they have a new chef, but the meal was very tasty and our server was friendly and attentive. Went on a Wednesday night, so it was pretty quiet. I hope they are getting more business on the weekend. The rooftop bar was closed, but it's a really great place to go when it's warmer.

Great spot to grab dinner
Great spot to grab dinner before heading to 9:30 club! Good drink and beer list.

Great spot, but our experience
Great spot, but our experience was spoiled a little by the rude service.

1905 is just right every time
Love this place. Whether brunch or dinner, I always pick this restaurant for a chill, tasty dinner. Dish flavors are always spot on. Service is subtle and sweet, always. Ambiance is charming. Have yet to have anything but a very great time with whoever I bring to 1905.

Probably one of the most decadent and delicious brunches I've ever had. Some highlights: chicken and waffle, truffled grits and pork belly, goat cheese frittata special.

A great go-to location for affordable, but creatively interesting food. The cauliflower steak was amazingly flavored and vegan, and the flank steak was equally amazing, though significantly less vegan. :-)
The truffled grits as a side are fantastic!

Great food, reasonably priced
Most of the apps we had were quite tasty; the burger was phenomenal. Drinks were also very good. Rooftop is nice but not for dining, great for drinks though. Will definitely be back to try more of their food and have another burger!!

Great first time!
We started at the bar with Lynn. She gave us quarters for the parking meter! Along with many suggestions. We proceeded to the large window table for dinner where the owner John dropped by for several minutes. The mules frites, hoppin john and grtis were our favs. Very enjoyable.

Great Food and Service
I'd never been to 1905 but found great reviews on YELP and decided to try it with some out of town guests. We had a terrific experience. I have a pretty extreme dairy allergy, which I alerted the restaurant to when I made the reservation on Open Table. Our server showed up with a list of what I could eat, which was really helpful. Of course i wanted one of the specials and the server was great about asking the chef and the chef accommodated me, which isn't always the case.
Definitely get the bread basket while you are waiting. It comes with bite sized portions of corn bread, bacon biscuits and blueberry muffins topped with thyme honey butter. Absolutely delicious.

Friendly, unpretentious, innovative
Could be characterized as a "Bohemian" spot in an up-and-coming section of town. Very creative menu, which seems to favor seasonal adaptation. Down-to-earth young staff. When I dined, there was a large party celebrating a birthday in the middle of the dining room, which definitely dominated the atmosphere, but everyone was having a great time. My experience was quite enjoyable.

I'll visit again
I was pleased to find this nice restaurant, so different then too many DC places... here you relax and the food is really good

This was my second time having brunch in the U Street area with five of my friends. I must say I've walked by this place several times and didn't realize it was a restaurant. It is nicely tucked away in an Ethiopian community. The food and service were excellent. I love the fact that they have bottomless mimosas, bloody mary's and a signature cocktail. We all agreed that we would come back with a larger party.

Very nice place for creative food
Creative menu with interesting choices that taste great. Observant, not intrusive, professional and friendly servers. Loved the rough brick walls, pressed tin ceiling and thoughtful, fun decor.

Went for brunch. Food was delicious, service was mediocre, but would try again in the future.

great ambiance and unpretentious.
great ambiance and unpretentious. Some food combos try too hard (quinoa hushpuppies? just NO.) The server was charming and funny and not overbearing. Simple food prepared well

That's a chop, not loin ...
Our meal began with beet salad with an outstanding goat cheese accompaniment -- amazing! Other than a misnamed entree -- "Pork Loin" was actually a perfectly grilled pork chop (with an awesome bread pudding) -- there's nothing bad to say about 1905. The southern influenced preparation, especially the bone-in NY strip special (great lentils beneath, but scrimpy amount of carrots), is outstanding and stands up well to any of the leading southern/Creole places in DC. The pole beans (side) were lightly seasoned and perfectly done (not crunchy or mushy).
Service was very good. Our server was slammed and, at times, ignored us. The bus boy saved him (server) by stopping by the table at well-timed intervals. We'll be back.
