We have dined here several times over the years and we came this year for a birthday dinner and it didn't disappoint. You get what you pay for here and the service was friendly polite and helpful. Highly recommend.

Small characger restauranr
On a visiting trip from Spain, we were looking for a place for a family meal with teenage daughters with some character, neighbourhood feel and a menu that did not necessarily end with burger and fries. We found all that and some more - great ambience and music, we enjoyed the food and we had a great family time. Definitely recommend this small gem.

The Village as it used to be
This was my first visit in many years. I came with a friend to see the photo exhibit of a mutual friend in the restaurant. It was good to be back..
Cornelia Street still retains the old "Greenwich Village" charm, and
so does the Cafe. Small, intimate, cozy, good food, good service..
Coming back soon!

We came 4 years ago for dinner.
We came 4 years ago for dinner. We thought it was the highlight of our trip. We went back for brunch and were terrified that it wouldn't be as good as we remembered. It was just as amazing. A little piece of history tucked away in the Village. The food was fresh and tasty, the portions ample but not crazy huge like so much of America, the waiters friendly and informative. We were warned that the quiche might take a while because it was cooked to order. It was worth waiting for. Lovely! Again!

Service was wonderful - our waitress was new on the job but you'd never know it, she was courteous, not pushy, and answered all our menu questions. Food was delicious, and it came out in a time frame that neither rushed us through our meal nor left us waiting hungrily for the next course. The only minor quibble is that the appetizers, while tasty, were incredibly small for the price (e.g. $11 for one tiny pita w/ about a tablespoon of hummus). In contrast, entrees were great and of good portion. A great spot for brunch, lunch, or dinner for a couple or small party.

A Much-Loved Village Gem
I visit Cornelia Street Cafe every time I return to my old hometown. It truly bears the essence of Greenwich Village. A much-loved Village gem.

Enjoyable ambiance, very good
Enjoyable ambiance, very good food (try the crab cakes!) and fun to attend one of their many cultural events --musical or theatrical downstairs.

Cute, authentic West Village bistro
we enjoyed our evening here very much - the place is charming and clearly enjoyed by many locals - the maitres d' knew the couple checking in ahead of us - and behind us! Great feel of what now seems like "old" NY - ie, pre the big boom in real estate and trophy spots. Food was well prepared, if not particularly adventurous - a flatbread first course was yummy - but safe (basil, tomato, garlic, olives, mozzerella) - rack of lamb special perfectly prepared - side of 'kale mashed potatoes' were simple whipped potatoes with sauteed kale on top. Scallops cooked properly. flatiron steak cooked perfectly. interesting wine list. quiet enough in dining room for conversation. close quarters, but part of the appeal.

Great choice and consistent
Food was great. Took a while to get service going. Still one of my favorites.

Every time I'm in NYC I make sure to get a meal at Cornelia Street Cafe. The food is delicious and the scene is energetic without being chaotic. It's the perfect restaurant for a date night.

Essence of West Village
Unpretentious and warmly welcoming by all, variety of cool seating choices - sidewalk cafe, "in" the window, in the bar area with tables made from wooden wine crates...nice. Food superb, wine list not the deepest, but the most creative I have experienced in quite a while, you will definitely find something you'll like, and at a very reasonable price.
Very nice experience.

Great portions and pretty amazing wine list. They have unoaked Chardonnay which made me particularly happy. The restaurant is a bit tiny so there aren't exactly quiet corners for couples, yet it is still a great date spot or even good for a small group.

Heaven in New York
Loved Cornelia St Cafe in Greenwich Village. The front wall was opened up so that inside was outside and outside was in. Lovely ambience and very personal service. Food was excellent - my steak frites was just what I had been fancying all day, the wine lovely and the coconut creme brulee the best brulee I have ever tasted. My sister was equally impressed. I booked from the UK and you did not disappoint. One of the reasons we chose you was that we wanted to walk back up the Highline at dusk and you are near enough to do this. I hope I get the chance to come back again.

Little gem in the West Village
I only found this gem of a restaurant recently as I just moved to the area. The West Village is notorious for overpriced restaurants that don't all deliver great quality food. Also, not being from the States, I find the wine in NYC to be extremely expensive in restaurants. This restaurant has a lovely, varied wine list at very reasonable prices. The decor is lovely and people are not sitting too crammed together, again, a luxury in this part of the city. The food is very, very good. The crab cake starter is to die for and the mussels were perfect. Music was turned on half way through dinner that had an odd jarring electronic beat that did not suit the restuarant. Other than that, it was a lovley experience and overall a great experience.

Wish I found it sooner!!!
An earlier review complained about the service, so we were wary as we placed our order.
We were pleasantly surprised at finding how fabulous the waiter was. Everything was great, the food the service, the menu. Can't wait to return.

Great customer service
We had a reservation, party of three, arriving on time, we were told that they had " a situation" . They had to move several parties in the back to the front due to a leak. The host apologized and said that it may be about 10 minutes did we mind waiting. He then walked us to the bar and bought us all a drink, thanking us for our patience. We barely waited 5 minutes before a table was ready. It was so refreshing to have the host recognize the importance of each customer and not treat us like we were lucky to be there. As it turns out, this was our first time at the Cornelia Street Cafe - BUT NOT OUR LAST.

A GEM OF A PLACE
One of my favorite places in the city as it's always consistent - from service to food.

I have never had a bad meal
I have never had a bad meal here and there's no bad choice on the menu.

It's been better
Great service, great ambiance. The food has always been fantastic, but last night it was not up to par. The salmon was overcooked and tasteless. The waiter offered to have the chef make another, but it would have inconvenienced the others. But he did offer. It will not prevent us from dining there again.

Cool eatery with history
Cornelia offers a rich men, a great location, and a local music scene. We brought out of town guests for a late night dinner. Relaxed but worthy menu. Our server was distracted and un-engaged. Hopefully that is an anomaly.

Delicious with lovely ambiance
Such a tasty meal and terrific service. We were a group of 5 and the waiter was patient when one member was late to arrive. The food was delicious across the board - we ordered swordfish, steak, chicken, mussels and a burger - and everyone enjoyed immensely. A friend had recommended it to me and I would do the same to others looking for a nice, but reasonably priced, place near Washington Square Park.

Went here for a friends bday
Went here for a friends bday party with a group of 6. The service could not have been better, and the waiter even brought us all a free drink at the end and a birthday dessert. The food was wonderful, although portions aren't huge. Mac and cheese was fantastic as was the warm chocolate dessert. Atmosphere and location in the village were exactly what we were looking for.

Highly recommended for reliable food, a great atmosphere, and excellent location. Readings and live music downstairs reflect a real commitment to the cultural life of the community.

Our favorite restaurant in NYC
This one of the best restaurants in the village. Food is great, not crazy pricey and the service is amazing! Thanks Wendy for the great welcome!

West Village Gem
We had a great after theater meal at the Cornelia Street Cafe. My wife had the goat cheese salad and I had the country pate as our starters. Both were very well prepared and very enjoyable. My wife had the mushroom and corn risotto and I had the lamb shank dinner special. Both were superb. The pacing of our meal by the team service staff and kitchen were very good. Even though the indoor dining area was full of patrons, we were able to have a nice dining experience and conversation. Overall, we would highly recommend Cornelia's to others to go and will will return ourselves.

Great place to go with friends
Active, friendly excellent food. Small groups 4 to 6 or for a couple perfect place. Can get a bit loud but very spirited and upbeat. You can't find much of a better location in the village. Has varied arts or music programs and presentations in the lower level. Would recommend for a special occasion. I don't drink wine so I can't comment on that. But the bar is excellent.

Heard of this from the book Season to Taste. So glad I googled it and came. Brought our friends...New Jersey natives. They'd never been and enjoyed food and show thoroughly!

Love Cornelia Street
This was our (my daughter and me) second time at Cornelia Street Cafe. Both times, the quality of our meal was wonderful! Service was great, too! I had the steak frites. Steak was cooked to perfection. It's a quaint little place with a lively atmosphere.
10/5/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great setting that feels warm and inviting. The food is fantastic for foodies with unique combinations that have a good flavor profile versus being unique to be unique.

Great neighbourhood NYC bistro
We always have a nice dinner out at the Cornelia Street Cafe when we visit NYC. It is a busy neighbourhood bistro with NY atmosphere, friendly staff, great food and a great wine list.
10/24/2013 5:00:00 PM
Nuanced perfection...every time. Imaginative mix of flavors always delights...out-of-this-world soups with global range, little surprises (this time: fried green tomato slices fresh from Chef Dan's garden happily complemented the blackened tuna with remoulade). Can always expect quality ingredients, thoughtfully and lovingly prepared. Astounding by-the-glass wine selection, reasonably priced. Friendly and efficient staff, knowledgeable and helpful. One can't help but keep coming back.

An enjoyable dining experience
Had a pre-theater dinner for six at the handsome and welcoming Cornelia St. Cafe. The food, service, decor and ambience were quite satisfying and our server was accommodating enough to make splitting the check six ways quite easy. I'd happily go back.

Enjoyed my meal at Cornelia Street Cafe. Had a wine flight which was very nice, and I had delicious salmon. Very tasty. And I sat near the fireplace which was a lovely treat. Enjoyed it.

Cornelia Street Cafe - wonderful
Excellent quality, creativity and presentation. We had Thai Seafood Boulliabase, Organic Chicken with incredible mashed potatoes made with beets and horseradish and side of Brussels Sprouts with pepitas.

Hitting on all cylinders
Been here often and always leave satisfied. Had the pizza and hummus appetizers tonight which were both delicious. The black sesame encrusted salmon was outstanding and I highly recommend it. Pear sherbet for desert topped off a great meal.

We recently met another couple
We recently met another couple for dinner on a Sunday night at 6pm. Initially it wasn't that crowded, although the table are very close together. Within an hour the place was packed -- dining room and bar. Menu had variety and was very reasonable, service was friendly and good, food was delicious. The only drawbacks were the noise level (we sat near a party of 10 and they were celebrating something!) and the proximity of the tables. I would definitely go back.
11/16/2013 4:00:00 PM
Charming little Village restaurant
We went on a Sunday night. The place was not at all crowded. We had a nice table by a window. I had an excellent pear and spinach salad, and mussels for the main course. The mussels were on the small side, but there were enough of them so that it filled me up. My friend had a salad, and for the main, duck, which he said was excellent. We were very pleased overall.

Exceptionally Good Food
The two meals we ordered each just melted in our mouths! A fish dish and a duck dish had great flavors, presented well, and seemed to be just enough. They looked like tiny entrees upon arrival; however, I appreciated the reasonable price for elegant food, and was surprisingly full (with a little help from the bread on the table). We didn't allow ourselves time for appetizers or desserts, but the meal turned out to be perfect. Our service was great, including the care they took in making sure we made it downstairs in time for the entertainment. We had made separate reservations for the restaurant and entertainment, which was very helpful.

Group of 6 for dinner, we were a pretty loud bunch; great time at Cornelia Street Cafe. Space and ambiance were great - vibe in the place can change with groups vs couples. Service was good, our server was friendly, informative, and helpful. Read a few reviews with service complaints; we aren't the type of people that need a server around every second, we like our space and time, so fine with a bit of wait here and there. The food was pretty good, worth going back for. Hummus app was awesome, nice touch with the balsamic! Crab cakes and mussels were ok. Entree winners were duck, steak, and beef stew. The risotto was ok. Not pleased with the burger or salmon. Had some good red wines. Overall a great experience and look forward to going back.
