Business meeting dinner on
Business meeting dinner on a Tuesday night. Had a drink at the bar and noticed the person next to me having a filet off the bar menue. Looked great and I was hopeful for the same for dinner in Smyth, unfortunately different menu. Did have a similar filet off dinner menu for $14 more! Beef was cooked perfectly and was very flavorful. Also had the spinach salad which was huge! Other diner had the lamb chop and she said it was excellent. Great service overall.

Great time but lacked romance
Amazing service. We had Nick who was fantastic. The service was professional while still being casual/comfortable. The decore is amazing. Swanky adult friendly. I did NOT like the table. We got sat next to another table and could hear EVERYTHING they were talking about, and they were not loud it was just that both booths were that close. The table itself had iron bars underneath it that kept me from crossing my legs or getting close to my hubby, impacting the romance of the date night. Overall I loved this place and will go back many times again, but will ask for a different table if we are looking for a romantic evening because it just wasn't intimate enough for romance.

Our son, a 2nd year resident at C.S. Mott Children's Hospital in Ann Arbor was in town & after reviewing 4 possible places for dinner, chose Smyth . . . we were not disappointed, plus we were fortunate to have a fantastic waiter, Nick. Our son loved the food, the amibience, and our server . . . I was glad I'd put it on my list of 4 possible places for us to celebrate . . . I'm sure we'll be back again!
(Plus, I love walking around the lobby of the Iron Horse Hotel just to look at all the interesting artifacts - it's part of the experience of dining at Smyth.)

We chose Smyth for our double
We chose Smyth for our double date night with another couple. Upon our arrival, we were struck by the lobby --it has a loft feeling, with huge beams, iron work, leather sofas, and a large American flag. The restaurant has the same ambiance, but without any of the pretention that you might expect --this place serves both the sophisticated business traveler and the road weary Harley rider, who also receives homage in the hotel lobby and restaurant. Our server was knowledgable, attentive but not intrusive, and actually pretty engaging. We enjoyed his humor as much as his service. The food was excellent, of course! Great American cuisine, perfectly prepared, with simple clean seasonal flavors. Try the chef's menu and wine filght! YUM!

Our last dinner in MKE!
We moved from Milwaukee to Baltimore as of - oh just now - and we decided to have our moving eve dinner somewhere we'd never been before. We wished we'd found it before - what a great meal we had. Very pleased with both our entrees.

My Favorite Restaurant in Milwaukee
This place is an absolute must visit especially if you are staying the night at The Iron Horse Hotel. The menu is Cool, Hip and Classic combining traditional dished with a modern flair along with creative new menu items that push culinary boundaries. The cocktail menu is fantastic and entices your to get outside your comfort zone. Service is always spot on. If you go once, you will definitely want to go back.

Gem inside the White Horse Hotel
I have eaten here twice now and the food both times has been outstanding.

Interesting menu, very good food
We went to Smythe to celebrate a friends birthday. The food was very good, the service was excellent. I wouldn't recommend the chicken wings and donuts though. They sounded interesting and it was an unusual combination but not a good one. Everything else we ordered was great.
5/31/2013 4:00:00 PM
We had a great meal at Smyth. The tenderloin was perfectly prepared and very tender. The halibut was also great. Got to try the cheese curds, they were great.

Group of Three
Come for brunch. The wonderful ambience and the quietness of the day made it very enjoyable as we did not have to yell at each other to talk. The menu was unique and every thing on it very tasty. The prime rib, scotch egg and the saltine encrusted blue gill were excellent.

Father's Day Brunch
We've been to the Sunday brunch buffet at Smyth before and had really enjoyed it so going back for Father's Day seemed like a good idea. There seemed to be fewer choices this time, but several of our favorites were still there; biscuits and duck gravy and the flannel hash are stellar. Additionally a number of items now have to ordered from the kitchen...this might make sense, but doesn't mesh well - in my opinion - with the buffet approach. Overall quality was very good. It was also surprisingly quiet, but that may have been because we were seated in the "library". Value for price - moderate - Smyth is one of the more expensive Sunday brunch spots, but not unexpected being in a hotel.

We went here for our anniversary. I was expecting over $50 a plate, but I didn't see anything over $30. That alone was my apprehension for not trying them out sooner. The staff was top notch! Couldn't ask for anything more. Very nice outdoor patio area with bar. The drinks are pricy, but the environment/ setting is not you typical $3 beer special bar. We will be back again!

The Waitstaff knows
As always, we arrived very early, in order to have cocktails on the best patio in the city. Our waiter was very knowledgable about the menu and what was going to be fantastic on this particular evening. He recommended the Copper River Sockeye Salmon off the menu, and he was on the money. Two at our table ordered it, and it was outstanding! The vegetarian in the group was treated to a special Chef creation of a medley of vegetables of her choosing, expertly prepared, as there wasn't anything to her liking in that category on the menu. The one downside was the halibut entree that seemed old and tired and a day past fresh. Listen to your waiter...they know what to recommend each day.

The restaurant was great.
However, I don't like paying $8.00 for parking when I dine.
Tipping is fine.

A cool place for a special event
We often use our wedding anniversary to try a new restaurant. We thought this year we'd try Smythe and we were not disappointed. The atmosphere is cozy while being chic, with soft candle light in a profusion of masonry jars that gave a softening effect to this renovated warehouse/industrial style location. Our waitress was efficient and knowledgeable, pacing our order in a way that we never felt rushed or neglected. We had several different items from all aspects of the menu, enjoying the delicious flatbread appetizer, entrees and dessert. The house, learning about our anniversary, provided us with complimentary champagne flutes. We look forward to a return visit.

steak was very good, spinach and shrimp flatbread was good, choc pudding dessert was dissappointing

We went for Sunday morning brunch and I was impressed when we first stepped through the door - the decor is amazing and the food just added to our experience.

This isn't Chicago
While the food here was OUTSTANDING, the prices were pretty steep for Milwaukee -- drinks were in the $14 range, wine by the glass was high as well. Our bill for 4 people including 2 appetizers, 2 salads, 4 entrees, 1 dessert, 8 drinks and a coffee was $269 before tax and tip. Parking was $8. If this was Chicago I'd expect this but not in Milwaukee. That said, it was a very enjoyable meal other than the fact that the wait staff was somewhat inattentive. I will go back, but it will have to be a rare treat.

fine dining in a relaxing setting
Everything was perfect, starting with the service and ending with excellent food. As repeat diners we were not disappointed.
Dinner was wonderful, but don't miss brunch it is outstanding.

Dined at Smyth on what turned out to be their 5th Anniversary party night. The crowd challenged both the staff and kitchen. Despite being very busy in the restaurant and bar area the service was timely, efficient, and professional (except for a bit of a wait to present and collect the bill). Food was very well prepared. We had salmon and a filet - both were cooked perfectly with creative accompaniments. Desserts were delicious but one (a creme brulee) was served a bit too cold. Nice wine list - can't forget that! This was our first time at Smyh, we will be back soon.

Tried the Cheesecurds & Tenderloin
Soooo good! Reserved a table for a birthday dinner and the food was awesome! I love cheescurds and thought it was different to dip them in tartar sauce, but Smyth pulled it off. The tenderloin was also like butter in my mouth...so moist and juicy. Would definitely go back and try again.

All four of our diners said their entrees were excellent. Most outstanding was our enthusiastic server; we received just the right amount of attention from him, always with a big smile and eagerness to please.

With tools and pictures showing smything and lit clear glass jars all over it was a very cozy place to have dinner. Our steaks were done to our liking. The mac n cheese was really good.

Smyth @ the Iron Horse Hotel did not disappoint at all. It is a magnificent restaurant with a wonderful selection of foods to fit multiple pallets. We had a business dinner there with about 8 people. The service was great and everyone enjoyed a wonderful meal. I would highly recommend it to anyone.

Visitors from the Coast?
1. Use OpenTable to make a reservation at Smyth at The Iron Horse. Yes, the internet has made it to Wisconsin.
2. Order a Brandy Manhattan Sweet. Why not? It's Friday.
3. Order anything you like. Fine dining has also made it to Wisconsin.
4. Sit back and enjoy.
Thanks for helping us show off MIlwaukee heritage and high life in one stop!

Great time at my parents 50th
We had a group of nine and the only table that would accommodate us was the high-top.
Both the tenderloin & ribeye steaks were tasty. Would have like a little more au gratin potato on the plate though.
Decent wine list. We also had two children in the group and the staff was very helpful including preparing my niece shrimp even though they weren't on the menu.
Especially like the lounge & bar area where our group lingered before and after dinner. Would definitely go to Smyth again.

Wonderful food and ambiance!
Checked in with hosted right at 6:30 for our reservation and my fiancé and I were seated right away. Within seconds the sever came over with glasses and water and the menus. Took our drink order and gave us time to look over the menu. We ordered 2 tenderloin steaks medium.. The bread and butter came within a minute; it was warm and crisp. We were seated in a corner booth and the candles are very romantic. Steaks arrived on hot iron plates; cooked to perfection. They were so tender they could be cut with your fork! Amazing flavor. Came with scalloped potatoes that were also wonderful. One of the best steaks I have ever had and my fiancé agrees! We will be back!
Total cost for 2 steak dinners, 1 side, 4 cocktails =$125 before tip

Best Thanksgiving meal ever!
No offense to my dear aunt, who made Thanksgiving dinner for my entire childhood... But this was the most outstanding Thanksgiving meal any of us had ever had! They had all the standards...but with twists. The sliced turkey was delicious...the turkey leg confit was even more amazing. Brussels sprouts with bacon, roasted cauliflower, and sourdough stuffing were treats. The ONLY suggestion I'd have for improvement is to plan better for the dessert table. When we arrived at 3pm the dessert table was full and looked amazing. By the time we went for dessert an hour later, there was hardly anything left. The party sitting next to us went for dessert about 15 minutes after us, and there wasn't even pumpkin pie left...they were quite upset.
