Palace Hotel Garden Court luncheon
There is no more perfect venue for an elegant luncheon than the Garden Court. I have dined in restaurants worldwide. No single place ever matches the elegance and beauty of the Garden Court. I always have the same item: the Garden Court's crab salad, with Green Goddess dressing, which of course was invented at the Palace. It was even better than I remember it ever being. The generous serving of fresh Dungeness crab meat was exquisite. The fresh baby greens, made a beautiful presentation complimenting the crab, and the freshly made Green Goddess dressing tied everything together. A perfect treatment of a classic luncheon salad. The mixed bread basket featured marvelous SF sough dough rolls. The service was excellent. Perfection!

We were impressed with the food and service, extremely accommodating. We were so happy with our order and really enjoyed the ahi tuna tacos or cauliflower soup starters, the grilled shrimp salad, the signature crab salad and green goddess dressing and the mushroom stroganoff (vegan version). Would definitely come back again.

Excellent for Business breakfast
I love the ambience of Garden Court restaurant! The high ceiling, plants, settings gives the room a regal look. The noise level was quiet and makes it ideal for a business breakfast and at the same time perfect for a romantic outing.
I highly recommend Garden Court

Afternoon Tea a Wonderful Treat
The serene and elegant atmosphere of the Garden Court offers an opportunity to experience dining in a relaxed and unhurried manner, with time to savor the delicacies and enjoy the conversation of table companions. The afternoon tea was delightful, with generous servings of savory sandwiches and sweet pastries, served with properly brewed, high quality tea. I imagine it must be very similar to what was served a century ago (and I noticed that no artificial sweeteners appeared on the table... a nice touch!) The service was friendly and attentive, and a talented pianist played unobtrusively throughout the meal, providing additional pleasure for the senses.

I enjoyed my stay at the restaurant. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was amazing. It is very rare to see this level of fine dinning elsewhere and I would certainly make the trip back.

Birthday Brunch at the Garden Court
Once in a lifetime visit to the Garden Court for Sunday brunch. Outstanding venue for brunch. The food was of the highest quality with a great variety. Service provided was done in a charming, nonintrusive manner. The scenery in what was once a carriage turn-around was impressive, stately and eye pleasing. Probably couldn't afford to return anytime soon but the first time experience was pleasingly memorable.

Lots of food with all types of cuisines. Compares to the Four Seasons brunch in Georgetown, although I'd have to say almost as good as Four Seasons. There was a trio playing during brunch that added a nice ambience, but the atrium and building in general is beautiful! Wish I was more hungry so I could've tried everything at the buffet (only ate 3 plates worth of food including dessert).

A True Classic
The Garden Court is simply marvelous in every way! The food was excellently prepared and of the highest quality. The wait staff was attentive and courteous, but gave us just the right amount of space to conduct our business in private. The room is of course a classic venue in San Francisco that must be experienced at least once in a lifetime. If you go, you'll surely go back!

every time i walk into this restaurant i hold my breath for a split second. the glass windows flood the dining area with natural sunlight and warmth. the waitstaff are very friendly and cheery. definitely a great place to celebrate a special occasion.

Over the Top -- in a good way
This brunch is THE place for a celebration brunch, but leave time to linger. The food is great only to be topped by the experience.

Palacial lunch in the city
The Garden Court restaurant in the city's Sheraton Palace is over the top beautiful, opulent and well..........palacial. The bright natural lighting helps to take in the immense architectural beauty of a historical hotel designed to impress. The food is very good and my friend and I got a kick out of the Kobe beef hamburger and some nice salads on the side. But mostly we we were there for atmosphere and good place to chat. Service was ok but somehow uninspired for the lunch crowd which deserves better.

Had Father's Day brunch & really enjoyed it. Service was friendly & good, with champagne & OJ refilled both without asking, or promptly when flagged down. Plates were cleared by anyone walking by, no one had that "not my table" attitude. The setting is gorgeous and, although it is pricey, this is a great place for a special occasion. The chandeliers, high glass ceiling and the history of this National Landmark made this a nice experience. We enjoyed the food and wished we could eat more. Standouts were Dungeness crab cups, filled with fresh crab meat, & the fresh waffles, lightly crisp with a nice denseness & malty, eggy taste. Fresh sashimi was plentiful, with beautiful cuts of deep red tuna & rich orange salmon. I will go again.

Ageless style & quality
Lunch for 2 in a classic setting, very good food, attentive but unintrusuve service. What could be better?

Elegant beyond my imagination
Food excellent, lox, blintzes, all the meats one could desire, pastries galore. Elegant yet so comfortable. The lighting coming through the dome ceiling is marvelous. For all ages and full of romance and elegance.

Tea For Two
The Tea for Two was great, very relaxing and the food was good. But due to the road construction going on in the City it was very difficult to find our way to the Hotel.

We found the Garden Court to be a perfect place for a special occasion luncheon. The food and service was superb , and the setting is beyond compare
6/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
The waiter and assistant were very good to watching our drink levels. They were talkative only if we asked them questions. The meal was attended to well. I loved the food. The crab and clam chowder was very nice and our ceasar salads were fabulous. It is so gorgeous on the inside.

Garden Court: In a class by itself
I consider the Garden Court to be "old San Francisco" at its best. The menu and service are good, and the setting is incomparably grand. I have gone there for special occasions since my childhood (I am now seventy-six). I should note for younger people that the Garden Court is not stuffy, but graciously welcoming.

Great Brunch for My Wife's Birthday
We had been to the brunch here before but it had been over 10 years ago. We took my wife for her birthday this year and the brunch was awesome. It seemed like they had more items to choose from this time. The seafood items and the desserts were the highlight for me. We enjoyed the champagne as well. The jazz trio was great. The price is not for the faint of heart and it's definitely a place for special occasions but I am sure we will go back again.

Elegant champagne brunch on Sunday
Champagne brunch at the Garden Court of San Francisco's Palace Hotel is an elegant and tasteful affair without being stuffy. The buffet tables are loaded with fantastic selections of seafood, fruit, cheese, breakfast items, lunchtime entrees, dessers plus more, and the champagne flows freely. The price is suitable for the fine service, lovely piano accompaniment, georgeous room and the tasteful and tasty food. I'm so glad we had the chance to experience this!

A hidden gem
This IS the most beautiful lunchtime (overhead light through the overhead lit garden space one could imagine Tiffany type glass ceiling is tops at Noon)!
The food is lovely but a bit pricy so I had a delicious soup of the day - the fresh breads were sumptuous and just baked. The soup was excellent, a corn chowder with a drizzle of upscale olive oil.
This spot is a MUST for first time SF travelers or if you've never been here - come for breakfast or lunch - High Tea is only on Saturdays or we would have gone for it!
The Palace Hotel is historic and this spot speaks highly of the elegance of bygone years better than one can describe in words!

Grandaughters' Birthday Celebration
We took our 9 and 15 year old granddaughters to breakfast at the Garden Court for their birthdays. I have fond memories as a child going there for special occasions, so hoped it would be a memorable experience for them as well. Just as I had hoped they were in awe of the beautiful glass ceiling and chandeliers. The breakfast buffet was lovely -- the unanimous favorite at our table were the sticky pecan rolls. I woke up the next morning wishing I had more of those! We had two attentive waitpersons. I casually mentioned to one of them that it was a birthday celebration for the two young ladies. We were surprised when Robert brought each of them a special happy birthday cheesecake with fresh fruit. They were delighted!

Great ambiance. Not noisy like so many of the trendy scenes. You can actually have a pleasant conversation.

Like being in NY in SF!
This was our second time at the Garden Court. We had a truly remarkable experience the first time we went there due to both the food AND the service. This time the service was really lacking, but the food still delivered. Unfortunately we had to wait a VERY long time before being waited on. This is our only complaint, but service really matters, especially when spending these prices!

What a brunch...
The Brunch at the Garden Court is excellent! The variety of food, the service and the place itself are more then expected.
There were some noise, but due to the size of the room, there's not much one can do...

Beautiful with Great Food & Service
Need I say more. One of my favorite business lunch and casual lunch spots in San Francisco.
8/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
Hard to imagine better
At $85, it's hard to imagine you get what you pay for, but for such high quality food in a truly remarkable setting (this indoor room can be considered a "scenic view"), this is truly a must do event. The numerous food stations offer servings small enough to be similar to those of a tasting menu, but as an all you can eat, one won't go hungry nor will one fill up before being able to try the many different items. Foods range from shellfish shooters to sushi and sashimi, from omelets to eggs benedict to waffles, from turkey to roast beef to salmon, and finally to exquisite small desserts. The orange juice and sparkling wine continue to pour as well as the available coffee and teas. No dinner needed later.

We took my mother here for breakfast for her 75th birthday. We knew that breakfast ended at 10:30 and our car was running late, but we arrived at 10:15 and had plenty of time to take advantage of the buffet. It felt very relaxed and spacious and of course the view of the Beaux Arts room with glass ceiling is magnificent! The food was fresh and good and we all had a wonderful time! Mom felt very special!
10/4/2013 12:00:00 AM
While visiting SF my husband thought we should splurge and dine at this beautiful place. It was all we hoped it would be. The staff was excellent, keeping waters filled and checking on us without being obtrusive. The food was delicious too and they even accommodated all our special requests. We wanted side salads with our meals, which wasn't on the menu. I had the risotto (wonderful!) and my husband had the pork roast.
When leaving, we asked the manager to take our photo with the lovely room in the background. He graciously did this, even getting down on his knee to take the shot from a better angle.
The meals were pricey, but what you'd expect in this setting. Worth every penny!

I was there for a business breakfast and it was a perfect experience. We had a good table away from the fray and excellent service. The food was good and the location was very centrally located not to mention bright and cheery. It was a perfect spot for my meeting.

Best in SF for brunch
Second time of brunching here and it maintains its extremely high standards of food and service. Couldnt really fault anything and would happily return Sunday after Sunday!!
10/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
Excellent Sunday brunch but costly
We went to the Garden Court Sunday brunch for our anniversary. It was a beautiful setting and most of the huge variety of food was excellent. Favorites were the fresh sashimi, ribeye, and crepes. Service was not up to par for a place that charges $85 per person, though. This would not be a place we would go to often because it was just too expensive for a brunch, but it is nice for special occasions.
10/19/2013 5:00:00 PM
What a wonderful place for a great meal, beautiful décor and rich history. Take your visitors here for an old SF experience. We plan to arrange a dinner date here periodically. Don't shy away because of the price, it was well worth every penny.

Celebrating my 52nd BD, my partner and I dined at the fabulous Sunday brunch. The volume of food choices (including a full, fresh sushi station!) and the quality (literally everything was superior in terms of flavor....everything!) was outstanding. I've been to the hotel many times and always enjoyed the ambiance of the Garden Court. It's worth every penny of the $100 (including tax and tip) per person.

My friend and I came here for lunch to celebrate her birthday. She ordered cowboy steak, it was so tender that it melted in your mouth. I ordered the seared trout topped with chard and couscous, was perfectly done. Service is great! Love the ambience here, it is absolutely gorgeous.....sitting under the dome with stained glass ceiling and beautiful chandeliers. It was just GRAND!

Best Crab Salad!!!
Took my mother Garden Court at the Palace Hotel for her 75th birthday.
Pros: Atmosphere is old-San Francisco, architecture is a work of art. Beautifully maintained in what looks to be it's original design. Thee BEST Crab Salad. Comes w/ Green Goddess Dressing, supposedly originated at the Palace. Order dressing on the side. Can overwhelm mild crab. Also ordered Chocolate Cake for dessert. OUT OF THIS WORLD! Asked waitress we wanted to share one piece. Nicely served on two plates. (Really dislike when a shared dessert is brought out on one plate w/2 forks!) Waitress was excellent.......Extremely friendly, attentive w/o being a nuisance.
Cons: Hostess not very friendly. Coffee tastes like Folgers. Conference overwhelmed entire 1st. floor.

Lovely ambience and a hidden gem
Super food and good service, if a little slow. The glass ceiling, and dining hall as a whole, is a treat to look at.
The dishes are somewhat on the higher price side, but the quality and presentation make up for that. Will happily return again.

Perfect Thanksgiving Brunch!
Something for everyone. I thought it was pricey, but found the Garden Court brunch to be worth every dollar. Would love to have Thanksgiving there again!!!!

Wonderful Thanksgiving Experience
This is a can't miss event. Everything from the service, to the meal, to the drinks was absolutely top notch. We came from out of town to try this and we were not disappointed. It has a wide enough variety, even the picky eaters and those with dietary restrictions were able to find food that was delicious and satisfying. I can't recommend this enough, if you are in San Francisco for Thanksgiving, definitely plan to attend.

Thanksgiving 2013 Palace Hotel SF
I was actually going to call the Hotel to commmend them on their outstanding job for Thanksgiving. The setting is magnificent. A work of art and architecture. Truly a one of a kind in the City and US,frankly the world. The buffet offering was tops. Each grouping of items were gourmet and being a pescatarian, I had plenty to choose from. Compliments to the chef. The service was festive and cheerful, from the valet parking, the hostess, the table service, serving area and of course the chef. The Palace is truly a great Hotel and the people behind it,know it. Truly a San Francisco Institution. Right now the plan is to make reservations for next Year.

A great venue for a special meal
Four high school friends meeting in SF and wanting a special place for lunch chose the Garden Court at the Palace Hotel. Our reservation was handled smoothly and our table was ready. Live harp music wafted in the background. The lunch menu has a wide variety of offerings from sumptuous salads, to a risotto and pork and fish. Many excellent wines are available by the glass. The wait staff is knowledgeable and attentive, but not hovering. The room was, as always, spectacular with the added touch if Christmas decorations. This is a wonderful place for a special lunch.
