So many options!
I was having a rough morning with no chance for breakfast, when I decided to stop into Three for brunch - and I'm so glad I did! There are loads of different options for tasty tapas-style "sharing plates" (highly recommend the yam fritters and lamb kabobs), but the brunch menu options are ideal for one and some of the best things are daily specials that aren't even on the menu. Today's unlisted special was truly delicious chicken & waffles ($10), which I suplemented with fresh squeezed orange juice and a bottomless cup of really good coffee. Service was exceptional and the atmostphere was very open and relaxed. Three rescued my Saturday. My advice: Avoid over-ordering (there's more food than you think) and ask about the specials!

No Longer Astaria...but Still Very
The décor is different and the menu is changed...but some of the old favorites are still there and some new, intriguing dishes. The menu is designed for sharing plates. We still love the crab cakes and mushroom cigars. New winners are the buttermilk battered fried chicken and the corned beef sliders. We look forward to going back and working through the menu.

They have a roof top garden
They have a roof top garden so all the lettuces are fresh, plus they have a living wall. Enjoyed the beet salad, but there was too much arugula for my taste. The boneless fried chicken was bland -- too much coating. I'd go back ad try other items.

Return of our neighborhood favorite
Great to have the reincarnation of Astaria back in the neighborhood. Food stop as good as before and our waitress was knowledgable and attentive. I miss the cozier decor of Asataria. The new design is more industrial chic/trendy.
We will definitely be returning!

Delicious and varied menu
Very relaxing and fun birthday lunch. We shared several "For Me" (small) size dishes. Especially loved the balsamic steak, beet salad and ice cream bar. Will go back for more.

Three Cheers for Three Restaurant
The atmosphere was colorful, fun and full of light and energy. Very comfortable seating, service was very friendly. Staff was genuinely happy to greet and recommend the many delicious choices. A wonderful addition to downtown San Mateo. We will return again and again. I look forward to sharing this gem with my family and friends.

I can here with two friends on a Sunday night. We had a great meal. The staff was friendly, helpful and attentive. One of my friends is vegetarian and she had plenty of options. The food was delicious and the option to have small plates or more of a family style allowed us to try many dishes. Also, it was very reasonably priced. We will go back for sure.

New menu and new interior
New menu and new interior at the old Astaria Restaurant - small tapa size portions and some are triple the size but slightly less in price than 3 times the cost of one portion - good idea and it works. Service was excellent - and we always had food in front of us at the correct temperature. There were 4 of us and we ordered several different dishes and they were all fabulous, including dessert and coffee. We all liked the old interior better but the new menu is unique, food was good, service was excellent and we will go back.

This was the first time our
This was the first time our lunch group had ever been to Three and it was absolutely fabulous. Service was great and the food as even better !!

Formerly Astria, the restaurant "Tthree" was updated to flow with the renovation of the nearby Draper University/Benjamin Franklin hotel. Service was superb- waitress was very knowledgeable, friendly and attentive, The food menu was filled with choices that all sounded great. We ordered steamers (delicious) and Thai spring rolls, also the citrus salad and sliced beef on top. The latte coffee was one of the best I've had, and their desserts . Yum !!!! The Hohos ... I will definitely go back!

I was given gift cards for this restaurant so we came to try it out. the menu was a little hard to understand, not very good descriptions of what the meal actually is, or what comes with it. we ordered the steak, it was amazing, the flavor was to die for. if it was not so far from my home in Sacramento I may actually come here again.
8/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
The food is inventive, delicious, and very reasonably priced, and the menu provides great flexibility to have almost any dish as an appetizer or an entree—I love that! However, anyone who is expecting the warm, inviting, elegant but not stuffy atmosphere of Astaria may be disappointed. The new vibe is edgy and very casual—much more downscale, all hard surfaces. But the food is still great

Our wait person was very nice
Our wait person was very nice but the food took a long time to come. The restaurant is beautifully decorated but noisy.

Great Neighborhood Restaurant
We have been going to Astaria for years and have always loved it, and we love the new, renovated Astaria -- now known as Three -- just as much. The restaurant is clean, bright and open, and the revamped menu is excellent, with lots of delicious dishes that are meant to be shared. The service is excellent, as always. I would highly recommend Three for lunch or dinner; it's a great dining spot in downtown San Mateo.

I enjoyed the new open space of the former Astaria as well as the new "bites" menu for lunch. The salmon bites were exceptionally delicious, and the small cucumber salad made a wonderful combination for lunch.

Excellent hash at brunch
Brunch was mixed bag: lamb burger too plain, seemed expensive for not even a small side of chips or lettuce/tomato. Benedict was lovely but Hollandaise very mild. Best was corned beef hash: one of the best versions I've ever had (and I order it wherever I find it)! Beet & citrus salad was exquisite; wild mushroom stogies good as ever. Coffee too acidic but espressos are fine. Cinnabon bread pudding and the "Ho Ho" desserts were excellent. Sadly, Three has dropped "Humberto's Inferno" but we told the manager that we were adding our vote to the many old customers who have asked they bring it back! Re remodel: music way too loud; regret losing the booths but chairs are comfortable, thankfully. Close your eyes to the hideous 50's colors.

went for brunch
Staff was nice and the decor is great. My poached eggs were perfect, but the toast underdone. Hollandaise was very good but not enough of it. All in all we had a very nice experience.

I went to Three with 3 friends for a birthday dinner- we had appetizers and drinks- great service, yummy food and tasty drinks- I recommend Three highly- we especially loved the Mushroom stoogies, and the onion soup!
9/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
You have to order the Mushroom Stogies---they look a cigar! We also had the monthly special yummy watermelon and tomato salad, tomato soup, and seared Ahi. Generous servings and enjoyed every dish. Great face lift to the restaurant too; very hip. Thanks.

I went here for the first time for brunch and it was great. The pancakes were ehh (but that's what you get when you order pancakes). The bacon was amazing, corned beef hash was great, and the bottomless mimosas were amazing. The restaurant is cute, fun, and definitely a neighborhood gem. I'm so glad I found a place in walking distance that has a great brunch. I can't wait to come back and try food off the lunch and dinner menus. The service and the background music were great too!

Not a huge friend chicken fan and I loved it. Also, the gnocchi was awesome and the fresh spaghetti with prawns & mushrooms was by far my favorite.

Good place with great food
Went to this restaurant with a few friends and really enjoyed the food and relaxed atmosphere.

Love this place.
My family and I love this place. Loved it as Astaria and now as Three. Food is good and the service is good. I just wish they would bring back Humberto's Inferno!! :( It was seriously the best!
10/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
Good job on their menu, smaller portions and good menu, great change from Astaria.

The food continues the tradition
The food continues the tradition of Astaria, flavorful, creative - love the cinnabun bread pudding. The new décor is horrible. Designed to be "hip and modern," I found it sterile, uninviting, and very loud as all of the open, steel and tile surfaces make for horrible acoustics.
11/12/2013 4:00:00 PM
It was my first time there. Lots of things on the menu sounded good. Had the gnocchi in blue cheese sauce. Loved the taste but the gnocchi was a little to soft/fluffy. Also had the beet salad - it was so good. I would definitely order it again. Liked the big open layout of the restaurant. Nice decor. Would go back and try more things on their menu.

Three is a five!
Three restaurant had a very nice menu, something for everyone. Food was served hot and plated beautifully. Would definitely good back again.

Our first time there on Thanksgiving and we really went to town on the buffet. They had choices varying from typical Thanksgiving feast to sea food. Dessert selection was delicious!! The services was friendly and the kitchen made sure that no platters on the buffet table were running low. Really enjoyed it and recommend this place for buffet. I believe they have another buffet special for Christmas and New Year!!

This was my first visit to
This was my first visit to this new restaurant, and there will be more. If the Thanksgiving buffet is typical of the food at this restaurant, it is outstanding!! Everything was fresh, well-cooked, and creatively served. Our table waiter was very attentive. There is an eclectic wine and beer menu, also a full bar. I'll be back!

Overall Great - try it - some work
We had res. & were greeted & seated promptly. We sat near a wall that had a fireplace but it was off. We were told it generated too much heat so they don't turn it on. Oh. Our water Henry was nice enough but he lacked menu knowledge and didn't add anything to the experience. The cigar stogies are fun and very tasty. Entrees we had one steak (great flavor), Tuna(came cold though it was seared so I'm not sure if it sat a while before service, lastly the special butternut ravioli (amazing). For sides we had califlower and risotto (both delicious). For dessert we tried the apple crisp and peppermint frozen cake ( seconds please, delicious) We WILL return, just be mindful of server selection. In watching other servers, they seemed very attentive.
11/30/2013 4:00:00 PM
The menu was very interesting and a lot of selection. I enjoyed the onion soup most. However have to send back the skirt steak as it was tough. The waitress very nicely exchanged to another kind of steak which was okay.

Welcome to the neighborhood, Three!
Went here for my roommate's birthday. Three was very accommodating since we were a large party and half our party happen to be running late. The only downfall was that the valet was full. Then again it was Friday night at 8pm so either walk or prepare on walking a few blocks! On a positive note, definitely try the Thai salad! Very very good!
