We were a party of six for a weekend birthday brunch. The restaurant is large, welcoming, and hip. With high ceilings and a wood-oven centered in the busy open kitchen at the back the long wood tables easily accommodate any size party. The poached egg farro dish with the basket of breads and condiments provided the best brunch meal we have ever had. Highest recommendation!

Relaxed family style at Camino
We had dinner with a friend and shared three plates for starters and 3 for main course. It is a very nice way to share and the atmosphere is excellent Great wood fired ovens give that wonderful taste to the meat. Highly recommended.

food experience was excellent, sardines were lovely. Portions were not skimpy. Will come back.

One of our favs!
This was not our first visit to Camino or even our second. We come here all the time as a couple, with our family (we have 3 toddlers in our family), with out of town guests. We have eaten dinner and brunch here, and have celebrated many family birthdays here. Obviously, we love it! We have never had a bad meal. Everyone is super accommodating, which really means a lot when you have babies. They always have the tables set up, high chairs included. Food is amazing, locally sourced, beautifully and tastefully prepared, and most times we see someone we know there. I can't recommend it highly enough.

Excellent, spacious restaurant . Small menu is the only drawback. All dishes we had were delicious, love the decor, the openness yet cozy feel of Camino. The staff were great too. Will definitely recommend this find.

i bought into chef russell
i bought into chef russell moore's singular vision the first time i ate here several years ago. the idea of exploring the wide & varied possibilities of open fire cooking is what makes this place so exciting.

the best of both worlds
This restaurant is a gem. It is perfectly suitable to go out wth friends for a drink or for a business dinner. The food is excellent and imaginative. I am glad I found this - I will be back.

One of the best restaurants in the Bay Area . Camino is a great experience

Great food and a fun ambiance,
Great food and a fun ambiance, although communal tables make this a less than ideal location for an intimate date night. The menu is short but everything we ordered was well-prepared and delicious.

Marvelous food. The menu is
Marvelous food. The menu is not large, but it changes very often. I've been about 4 times now - always ordered something different and never been disappointed. You can tell that the ingredients are very fresh and of the best quality - the kind of stuff that is usually over your price range at the farmers markets.
The service is great - very casual but also quite professional. Without being asked, we were given fresh plates and silverware between appetizers and main course. One thing I appreciate is how knowledgeable the wait staff is about the menu - where the ingredients come from and exactly how dishes are prepared. I'm told they meet with the kitchen staff before dinner opens to discuss the night's menu and taste samples.

Open wood fire cooking
Many of the dishes are cooked over an open wood fire or in the wood fired oven - makes for a terrific culinary and visual treat

I was delighted to find that Camino's brunch menu is just as captivating as dinner. A nice array from sweet to savory, including good doughnuts, grilled breads, condiment plates (choice of sweet or savory), and eggs baked in the oven. Only caveat is that they tend to cook their yolks well beyond runny. If you want them less cooked, be sure to say so.

Great Dinner But Limited Selections
I enjoyed the meal. The leg of lamb was the meat selection for the evening. I also ordered the bib lettuce salad.
I would have liked more selections but I get the minimalist theme of the place.

My boyfriend was meeting my mom for the first time, so we wanted to go somewhere that would please everyone and would not be too loud (requiring shouting). Camino was a perfect choice. They made mom's tea in a small glass teapot, and my coffee was made one cup at a time. They didn't offer a half-order of French Toast on the menu, but they accomodated mom's request cheerfully. French toast (I had the full order) was delicious. My boyfriend ordered food we could share--a baked egg (baked in its own little ramekin), potatoes fried in duck fat (very, very good--I kept reaching for more), a small savory plate of appetizers, sausages, and a basket of grilled bread. This was just the right place to bring mum for a meet and greet.

Never Ceases to Amaze
The food at Camino has been consistent in both flavor and inventiveness every time we visit. The staff is friendly and attentive, the drinks are delicious, and the food is amazing.

This restaurant never fails to impress. Different menu daily with fresh local ingredients. I am a tried and true meat eater and always end up with a spectacular vegetarian dish. The wait staff is always knowledgeable and fantastic, so order whatever he or she recommends! I have never been let down with the recommendation.

My new favorite restaurant
Camino is my new favorite! I love the simple menu that doesn't try to be all things to all people. They focus on what's in season and execute perfectly! Service is also outstanding. They are enthusiastic, knowledgable and know how to articulate what they know. Honed sense of timing is consistory respectful and intuitive.
The menu seems to change daily, so it's a new wonderful experience every time!

We've dined many times at Camino, most recently on Monday night, "steak night." The rib eye steak was wonderfully tender and flavorful, as were the accompanying tomato and shelling beans. I don't usually eat fried foods, but couldn't resist the tempura'd mushrooms, which were not at all greasy. The beginning salads were all delicious, especially the smoky eggplant. We also order the calamari, as an "extra," because it is one of the best calamari preparations we've ever had.
For dessert, we got rice pudding, as they had run out of the advertised yogurt pudding. It was wonderfully creamy and delicious, served with strawberries and an almond cookie, perfect accompaniments. A great ending to a great meal!

NIce neighborhood spot
Meal was interesting and very good. Changes daily. Entrees not overly generous but with salad/entree enough. Only problem was noise level. This was our first visit so had not realized the tables are long and communal. Fortunately our party of five had the end but virtually impossible for all of us to converse. WIne list good but pricey.

Wonderful service - creative food
Three of us ordered three small plates and two entrees to share - the flat bread with fresh goats milk cheese and wild mushrooms was the best we'd ever had! The fresh sardine and peppers was served ready for us to filet and our sever explained how to cut it to best bone it but we would have preferred to have her do it for us as the fish was oily and were were splitting it and were nicely attired. It was okay but not the best I've tried this season. The ribeye was fantastic. Every accompanying side was incredible! The sausage was also very good and the farro was so crunchy and flavorful we were amazed. Our sever was sweet, attentive, very gracious.

Comfort Food Heaven
Loved the comfortable atmosphere of Camino, and was fun to see their open kitchen in action. Delicious food and wine, and server Sean made sure to take care of our every need. Will definitely return soon.

A bit loose tonight
Missed drink order, fish smelled strong. Not an impressive showing as usual.

Outstanding food. Several dishes were very memorable. The only weak spot is the wine list. It is well selected and interesting, but it has substantial limitations. First, it is very short and therefore lacks depth. Second, it is reasonably prices, which is fine so far as it goes. But food of the quality deserves a chance to be paired with the finest wines. And while price doesn't always equal quality, there are clearly no world class wines on the list. In fact, I'd argue that it's even lacking any real presence of top tier wines that you can find on better lists in the $100-350 range. And I'll grant you that not everyone is interested in that range, but food this good deserves the chance to shine next to truly GREAT wines.
10/5/2013 12:00:00 AM
Brunch is always RIDICULOUSLY good here. Sweet and savory plates, Potatoes in duck fat, DOUGHNUTS and they are homemade. Yummy in your tummy! Poached eggs are perfectly done with hen-of-the-woods mushrooms and sage. Pork loin Skewers are sooo good! Coffee is not so fab for some reason (pretty bitter) but the brunch cocktails are FABU! Try the Pisco Sour.... damn good drink! I continue to wave Caminos flag!
10/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
excellent but limited menu
Granted the menu changes constantly but it is possible . like last night, to have one veggie, one poultry and one fish course and no beef. Having at least four different entrees doesn't sound to hard. Nevertheless I cleaned my plate.
10/9/2013 12:00:00 AM
Pretty much everything I ate was amazing! Service was exceptional
10/10/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great bartenders - they know their stuff (and the menu)! Table service was a little slow at times, but overall we had a great meal here! Some very unique and inventive combinations of flavors that worked really well. Love the room too, the exposed wood looks great, and it's fun to be able to see the fires in the kitchen without leaving the restaurant smelling like a campfire - well done!
10/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
A tad pricey, but hip and delicious
We went here for brunch, which was delicious but more like a hipster-foodie breakfast. Food for four with two brunch cocktails was about $100. Waitress was young, informative, attentive but not especially warm and, I don't know, vaguely judgmental or something. Maybe it's the hipster thing. It's cool, but it doesn't really make you feel welcomed. That aside, the eggs, bread, donuts, drinks, juice and coffee were absolutely delicious and perfectly executed. There were lots of young families, and the location is in a nice, safe part of Oakland near Lake Merritt. Street parking was scant, but we parked next door in a Safeway lot for free.

Went for monday night dinner. this month it is Kabobs. everything was very good from eggplant app to lamb kabob with lentils and dessert of black tea ice cream with quince and prunes. bottle of wine suggested with lamb was only ok. probably should have spent a few more dollars for something a little better.

Benicia Babe Goes to Camino
I think this is a neighborhood gem. I was disappointed to find that the Hen of the Woods entre had no hen - an egg, but no meat. But it was still fantastic. These people can cook! Also, the menu for the main dishes is limited a bit; two or three entres. But the food is excellent, so you cannot order wrong. The service was fantastic. I would definitely go again.

NOT EVERY RESTAURANT CAN EXECUTE DISHES AS WELL AS CAMINO. ALWAYS THE PERFECT BALANCE TO ENTICE THE TASTE BUDS. I INTRODUCED MY FRIEND TO CAMINO AND IT WAS A HUGE HIT! THANKS FOR A GREAT EVENING AND MANY MORE TO COME

Cooked With Love
Visiting from out of town and stopped by on our way out of Oakland for brunch. Drinks were unique and delicious, staff was friendly, and the food was outstanding. Camino's definitely worth getting out of your PJ's for. Delicious.
10/19/2013 12:00:00 AM
cozy neighborhood find
I had one of the best meals I have had in awhile. I ordered the local albacore and it was succulant and delicicious. The table shared the baked oysters which were cooked perfectly. We all tried one of the signature cocktails and were not disappointed. ...scarey good! Will definately be goingback here.

Camino always amazes
Somehow Camino seems to get better every time we go there, but it was already the best the first time we went, that is a testament to the kitchen and the staff. The food was incredible, the fall menu choices feature amazing flavors that play off each other delightfully. We had an amazing bottle of wine from Piedmont, Italy. The service was top notch, and the experience was amazing.

Don't go if you are hungry
Nice place with its rustic tavern-like interior design. The food was great but like many places vying for the foodie’s dollar i found the menu esoteric. My only issue was how almost laughably small the portions were. I had the fried chicken and mushrooms AKA Matsutake and hen-of-the-woods mushrooms with fresh flageolet beans. The portion was so small that it would raise the ire of a toy poodle.
Considering the $100 plus bill I suppose the owners got the last laugh.
10/26/2013 12:00:00 AM
came hear twice for monday night kabob dinner during October. Although I did miss octoberfest dinners that I had a few years in a row hear the kabobs were very good too. I liked the lamb night slightly more than the duck night but both were great.
the duck night had walnut meringue for dessert one of the greatest desserts around. not like a normal bland meringue you normally get. kind of cakey and chewy. really fantastic. Server we had was great. very knowledgable of daily changing menu and wine list.

We Loved Camino!
Great dinner at Camino before a show at the Fox Theatre. The service was wonderful, attentive but not pushy. Our waiter had a great demeanor. Specialty cocktails - we had a Brandy and a Rye version - were delish! Very inventive and flavorful. (A16 should make a visit to Camino for their cocktail list).
We shared the mushroom/bean dish - amazing flavors, and the butter lettuce salad - crisp, light and beautiful.
Duck kebabs and ordered the extra kebab - cooked to perfection, very tender.
Albacore - a nice portion but a tad bit overdone/dry. The flavors of the entire dish saved the dryness.
Would suggest something besides canelinni beans as an accompaniment to the fish as we had them with the mushrooms.
Did not have dessert.
10/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
Menu is small, but everything we tried, and it was almost everything on the menu - was delicious. It was my husband's birthday and they brought out dessert with a candle. The waiter was attuned to our needs even though he was also serving a very large party at the same time. The only problem was slow service from the bar. Great food and great night out.

Never disappointed by Camino
Thus is probably the sixth or seventh time I've been here and I'm almost always completely delighted by the food. I think the small plates (appetizers at dinner or a la carte items at brunch) are the best so often I'll order a few of those and don't even get to a main. The quality of the ingredients is amazing. My only complaint is that drinks always seem to take forever, but that's because they are making them fresh (like, squeezing-the-juice fresh) to order.

Great place to bring family member
I brought my mom to Camino since she was visiting from the East coast. She was so impressed and we had a great time. Besides the absolutely fantastic food, the service was excellent.
I'll be sure to go again.

Camino was fantastic. They accomodated one of our vegan companions, and took meticulous care of their dietary needs. The food at brunch was incredible, as was the service!

The food was excellent. My girlfriend and I shared the baked Oysters, duck breast salad with mixed greens and sweet persimmons, velvet smooth Ling Cod, and Chocolate Bread Pudding.
The noise level was somewhat high. We were offered a seat at the communal table but we chose to sit at a separate table. We were fascinated with the uncooked food displayed at the kitchen counter and open fire.

These days I appreciate it
These days I appreciate it when restaurants/chefs don't belabor every dish with an over abundance of ingredients. Each plate we chose had good flavors, light, clean, well chosen. You could taste what you were eating. Also, the menu is inviting, as there are a manageable number of offerings -- not a bazillion choices. Very tasteful!
11/15/2013 4:00:00 PM
Freshest seasonal ingredients highlighted in elegant yet unfussy preparations. Friendly service, welcoming atmosphere. A real neighborhood gem!
11/17/2013 4:00:00 PM
The food was a little uneven, but mostly great. Cocktails unique and fund. Avocado toast appetizer to die for, likewise the lamb dish. There was an artichoke heart main dish that was not so special. Still, a great place and among our favorites. Our server could not have been better--young woman who when I asked for driving directions said she lives and works in Oakland and bikes everywhere. Sounds like Portland!

Had cocktails for brunch which I don't normally do. We had two different ones which were equally good. Crab season had just started so half a roasted crab for brunch is unusual, albeit pricey, treat.

The food is consistently great.
The food is consistently great. My husband loved his Monday baked crab. I had the pork loin with fresh grated horseradish and home made sausage. The sausage is terrific and the homemade saueurkraut was the best I've ever had. I'd buy it if they sold it. Service was not up to its usual efficiency, but still friendly.
11/24/2013 4:00:00 PM
I never go to Oakland without visiting here. my favorite meal here is brunch, though dinner is yummy too. the food is delicious and creative and reasonably priced to boot. there are always seasonal dishes, but they also have standard dishes that i look forward to having when I go. the atmosphere is wonderful and i'm always impressed with the noise level being lively but never loud. it's a real treat to go here.

Crabby Monday is Yummy!
This was the best crabby Monday menu yet. The garlic infused butter dipping sauce was irresistible with the crab, as was the perfectly ripe avocado served alongside. As is typical, however, the service was "off" -- lack of coordination to ensure that wine arrived with the entree, and foodserver was pretty terse. The food itself as well as the unique atmosphere made for a wonderful dining experience.
