A great place for theatergoers!
This is a wonderful French brasserie with excellent food, a nice long list of appetizers, excellent wine by the glass, and good service. It is right in the middle of the theater district so you can eat here all the time before events. When I forgot to request some meat to be medium rare and it came well done, they did it over with no quibble at all.

Good pre-theatre choice
Chose this place because of its proximity to the Hirschfeld Theatre, as one of our group was unable to walk longer distances. Turned out to be a very nice meal, reasonable $28 prix-fixe menu, and excellent service. We were seated at the window looking out onto 46th St. which made for lots of fun people-watching. Nice ambience inside the restaurant as well. Would definitely return here.

We keep going back!
I work in the Broadway theatre, and there are countless restaurants in that neighborhood, but when we are meeting friends we keep going back to Brasserie Athenée. It's a quiet, classy place where you can actually have a conversation (no over-hyped music or sports TV blaring). The menu is reasonable, with a range of tasty choices, and there's a very good wine list. The service is unfailingly friendly, homey, comfortable and efficient. Check the hours, though, if you go post-show: they're not open late. We love this place!

Awesome Pre-theater Dinner
We picked this place at random for a quick pre-theater dinner. The service was excellent. The food was delicious. And there was a great selection of wines by the glass. What a nice surprise!

Great Theatre dining locations
This restaurant was PERFECT for a pre-theatre dinner and drinks for a show on 46th street. The service was excellent, the wait staff attentive and the food was (EXTREMELY) well priced and delicious. All courses!
I live here in NYC, eat out a lot, and would highly recommend it.

Another choice in the Theatre Dist.
Although we had passed this restaurant many times, we had never eaten here. Nice relaxed choice -- pre-theatre is $28 pp and gives 3 choices for appies (we chose Spinach leek pie and a nice salad. 3-4 main choices -- we chose salmon and veggie ratatouille. Fish was perfectly prepared and the ratatouille was delicious --- spicy, flavorful and, as my wife amusingly said, the veggies had "integrity.!" And you get dessert --- we chose an almond cake and creme caramel. Pair that with a $38. Cotes Du Rhone and you have a lovely meal. Best of all? Since it was a 6:30 reservation it was blissfully quiet!

Great Times Square pre-theater
In a part of Manhattan packed with chains, dives, and hype, Brasserie Athenee is a breath of fresh air. The location is extremely convenient, the ambiance is comfortable yet classic as a true French Brasserie should be, and the food is fantastic! Our server was helpful and charming. Everything from our cocktails to dinner and dessert was prepared and delivered without a hitch. We will definitely be back!

We have looked many years
We have looked many years for a good, reasonably priced, restaurant with a pleasant atmosphere that is close to Times Sq. Finally found one in Brasserie Athenee

The food here was good, but
The food here was good, but old world style (not a ton of modern flavors/pairings). My vegetables were a little over cooked and the rack of lamb wasnot spectaculer and the portions of the lamb was smaller/ thinner than i had anticipated.

Perfect pre-theatre choice!
This has been our "go-to" place in the theatre district for years, since it was a Greek restaurant called Kyma. Lovely, attentive staff; charming, relaxed ambience; decent food (even if it isn't five-star dining); and very affordable prices. The $28 prix fixe menu is a great deal -- the portions are generous and you won't leave hungry! Best of all, the noise level is reasonable, not deafening as at many other restaurants, so you can actually have a conversation without shouting. And you can enjoy dinner until 7:45 p.m. and still comfortably make an 8:00 p.m. curtain. I don't know of a better choice in terms of price, location, service, noise level, and ambience -- and the food has always been perfectly enjoyable.

Brassiere without pretense
Midtown manhattan find with great food and reasonably priced for this part of the city. Low cost simple wine list. The place is imminently affordable. Nothing fancy. Show up dressed as you are after a day of sightseeing in shorts or pre-post theater. The menu is very French as is the preparation. Sauces are not overwhelming. I had a grilled octopus appetizer after I was told the owner/ chef was Greek. Excellent in olive oil and with an olive tapenade. Grilled seabass covered with a tomatoe based sauce with a hint if apricot. Steamed squash. Attentive service. We enjoyed.

Just before the Show
We chose this restaurant because it french cuisine and close to the show we were seeing. We got a lovely window table and a great waiter. We are both gluten intolerant and he went out of his way to make sure that our food was in our comfort zone...Delicious meal.
We had booked our table for 6 pm and by 6:30 the place was packed. We will be back to this spot.

Wonderful after theater meal.....
WE had a great after theater meal here. We had walked by it many times, and loved the look. We both had mussels.......the biggest mussels I have ever seen. Absolutely delicious.....beautifully prepared. Can't wait to go back.

A reliable favorite
Whenever we're looking for a place to meet and talk with friends midtown, we head directly to Athenée. All the glass windows make it the most open-feeling restaurant in the theatre district, and there are no jumbo sports TVs or deafening music to interfere with good conversation. The prices are reasonable, the decor is classic and lovely, the service is always friendly and accommodating, and the wide variety of food is unfailingly good. Why go anywhere else?

Definitely better than its
Definitely better than its ratings - maybe not 5 star, but an excellent value - great location - competitively priced - generous portions - we ate there twice during our four day stay in town. The mussels and frites were particularly good.

Restaurant Row with a View
Overlooking the corner of 8th Ave and W 46th St is a fabulous French/Mediterranean restaurant. Enjoy fine cuisine in a friendly atmosphere while being entertained by the passerby's through large picture windows

We had a family dinner here after a Saturday matinee. We were seated promptly, and the service staff was extremely friendly. Our food was fantastic! Grilled squid, chicken livers, onion soup and escargot appetizers were great, the duck confit, monkfish, coq au vin and boef bourginon were very good as well, although the portion of beef bourginion was a little smaller than I would have liked. Our cocktails were good, but very strong, and the wine list was decent and reasonably priced. Our server had a little bit of a language issue, but this was far outweighed by her attentiveness and beautiful smile.
Good family dinner!!

On this occasion, we had to make a curtain time, but it is more than just a pre-theater restaurant. That said, they have an impressive 3-course pre-theater menu. Very good value and excellent food. Tomato soup special was particularly good -- definitely made fresh from late-Sept. harvest. Decent wine choices. I would go back any time.

A Good Meal
We had the duck leg confit and the salmon--both were great. They offer a pre- theater menu as well as the regular dinner menu.
My only complaint is that we did feel a little rushed by the wait staff. Will definitely go back though.

Pre Off B'way Dinner
Four dinners, three excellent meals. Although forewarned, my wife couldn't get used to the marmalade on her hamburger. Service was efficient, friendly and personable. Loved the steak tartare and onion soup.

Corner view in Theater District!
This restaurant is in an ideal spot on 46th and 8th avenue, near numerous theaters and parking lots. It's floor-to-ceiling windows make it light and airy all year round. I especially like the appetizers and frequently make a meal of 2 appetizers. The wine by the glass is excellent, with several quality selections at a reasonable price. There is a bar area with TV that can be fun to see at without disturbing diners in the dining area. Try it!!

We have visited many restaurants in the area but have never noticed the Brasserie before. It showed up on an Open Table search and we thought it was worth a try.
First impressions count and we felt welcomed and comfortable in our surroundings. The service was friendly, attentive but unobtrusive. We were looking for a location where we could chat with our guests. The atmosphere encouraged that. We had a delightful evening at a moderate (for Manhattan!!) price. We all had different starters and entrees and all were pleased with our choices. We will be back

Very enjoyable even though one seldom sees or reads about this restaurant. FRITES are great. Salmon portion was HUGE and Seafood linguini was excellent.
