Food was great. Unfortunately,
Food was great. Unfortunately, in a table for 2 they brought the wrong dish for one diner. They had to prepare the right course, so we each consumed our entrees separately....which was annoying. The food, once the right food arrived, was terrific. The server was not gracious about accepting responsibility about bringing the wrong entree. I've eaten there before...with no problems. I like it very much and would absolutely return. You may share this commentary with the chef/owner if you so desire.

Stopped by for a delightful
Stopped by for a delightful prix fixe lunch that was superb. Three courses $27 and each course was sheer perfection. How do you beat that?

After reading previous reviews
After reading previous reviews of this restaurant, we were a little worried, but it turns out for no reason. Our experience at Madison Bistro was wonderful, and we'd gladly return there next time we're in NY. Service was good -- not too much, not too little. They didn't have the wine we wanted, so the server came back with two similar options from which to choose, and the one we chose was excellent. Highlights were the foie gras, the short ribs and the souffles. Quiet little neighborhood place with that cosy, intimate feel.

This has become my "go-to"
This has become my "go-to" spot for lunch when I have vendors in. The food is very good, selection is nice...and $27 for 3 cources can't be beat in this area.

A Bit of Paris on Madison Avenue
I have brought so many people to this wonderful bistro since I had lunch there at the end of last year. The bartender makes wonderful cocktails and she is a lovely person. The wait staff could not be nicer - absolutely no NY attitude!
The fish dish, always market fresh, is outstanding,. The desserts are sublime. Someone in our party last Saturday night had profiteroles that were the best since our last trip to Paris. Everything about this bistro is understated, so that the real show stopper - the food - shines through!

overall a very good time.
overall a very good time. We were getting together with friends we had not seen in a long time & the food & ambience were ideal for conversation. Only problem was the internet service went down so they had to take our credit card info by hand

A true bistro. Rather dingy

I have eaten several times at this restaurant both for lunch and dinner and before moving from New York to Houston and when visiting New York. The food is an excellent value and impressive for entertaining an intimate group of friends. It is very close to Grand Central Terminal so it is easy for people who might have to catch a train. The staff never rushes you. I can attest to that as one of my friends and I used to eat there after touring the Morgan Library and would sit for hours talking over a leisurely lunch.

Wonderful Neighborhood Bistro
Genuine bistro atmosphere (minus the smoking). Great food and reasonable prices. Crab and avocado napoleon was incredible. Grand Marnier soufflé was exceptional. Excellent wine list. A true neighborhood gem.

A quiet place, excellent food
Three of us met for a business lunch that lasted over two hours. The Bistro was quiet, service was unobtrusive, the food was delicious. It was perfect. It is so rare to find a place like this these days. I'd always go there.

We picked this restaurant
We picked this restaurant by looking at reviews of restaurants on the Murray Hill neighborhood. It was pretty quiet, but be were eating a little early and the restaurant got busier shortly after we arrived. The food was very good and consistent across all courses. nothing fancy, but well executed and we would definitely return in the future.

Decent French food
Food was overall very good, but the quail entree was overcooked and dry. The crab cake "Napoleon" was superb, short ribs were very good.

An old favorite
Always dependable. The first place I think of when I want to dine in the area.

A thoroughly, satisfying dinner.
The daurade was perfectly prepared (i.e. not the least overcooked), well-seasoned and accompanied by a tasty anchovy sauce. What a relief from the cooked to death fish accompanied by exotic (read sugar) flavors that passes for cuisine at so many NYC restaurants. My wife's and my server, Omar, was his usual knowledgeable, attentive self.

Our favorite NY French bistro
This is our favorite French bistro in NY. We go early when it's quiet. It gets cheerfully lively later in the evening.
The food is far better than most good French bistro food. We love the crispy goat cheese appetizer, the mussels mariniere, the escargot, the extraordinary rolls with which we sop up every drop of liquid left from the escargot, the steak frites, and many other dishes. The Bourguignon-sauced short ribs is a delicious and solid "country-style" dish, which broadens the menu beyond the goat cheese / escargot type dishes.
We think the bartender makes the best vodka gimlet we've ever had. The choice of wines by the glass is excellent; we can't really judge the whole wine list.
Service is warm, responsive, and top-level.

Best lunch deal in the area
Great food and 3 courses fro $27?! Consistently terrific food. Friendly service as well. Always a pleasure.

Great French Restaurant
We went to madison Bistro during the week and the restaurant had a nice crowd - recommend reservations! The food is outstanding and it is priced reasonably for what you get. The chef creates some interesting and creative dishes.

Great food and service
Had lovely charcuterie and cheese board to start - both very nicely presented with just enough greens to accompany. Moved on to the velvety short ribs and perfectly roasted Cornish game hen, both of which were kindly dished table-side. Love this place. Will make a note to come back next time in NYC.

This restaurant was cozy and kind of dark, but the service was good and the food tasty.
We all enjoyed what we ordered.
Mussels were plentiful and tasty.
A delightful little French bistro.

I went with a group of five and when we arrived at 7 PM it was quiet. By the time we left at 9:30 it was much more lively. The menu was classic French bistro food and very well done. The crab and avocado napoleon was a delicious appetizer. There were several grilled fish options for a main course. I had a steack-frites for nostalgic reasons. We shared an apple clafoutis for dessert and a very nicely done crème brulée. The wine list was good but missing several of the selections.
Our server was originally from Mali and in fact all of the wait-staff seemed to be African. It was a very friendly and relaxed atmosphere on Madison Ave. about four blocks from Grand Central.

perfect lunch spot in mid-town
met my family for lunch there - great food, great service, great atmosphere.
only had an hour for lunch (due to my work schedule) - servers didn't rush things but i managed to get back in time
highly recommend this place to others.

Very nice, attentive staff. Service was timely and efficient. Steak tartar table side was very good. Souffle was wonderful. Only put downs - Strip steak was grisly and wine was well over priced. Will definitely go back again.

Good food, not too noisy
I chose this restaurant as a place to catch up with old friends, so I was happy it was not deafening, although it certainly was lively. My starter of Goat Cheese Galette w/ Honey and Thyme was really tasty, as was my main course of roasted organic chicken. My friends loved their shared dessert of Bourbon Vanilla Creme Brulee, and, while I liked my Lemon & Meringue Tarte, I wish that I had tried the Warm Chocolate Molten Cake. One suggestion for staff: Please offer refills of that great bread without having to be asked!

Whether a table for a business discussion, a treat for out-of-town friends, or "just because", the Madison Bistro is that rare New York gem: an unpretentious spot where the food is good, the service friendly, and the time unrushed.

Socrates in the City
We attended the Socrates in the City event which took place at the Union League Club around the corner. We wanted a close by neighborhood restaurant and picked the Madison Bistro. We had been there once before but just sat at the bar. This time we were served in the dining room. The entire experience was very enjoyable. Great food, great service and great ambiance is the total package. We will definitely come back. We recommend the cheese platter as a salad/appetizer. It was wonderful with four different types of cheeses and dressed salad. The braised short ribs was fantastic served on mashed potatoes with a lovely brown sauce on top. Yum, yum.
If you get a chance definitely try this restaurant - very well done.

We found the food at Madison
We found the food at Madison Bistro to be fantastic, especially the Short Ribs. My daughter lived in Paris for 5 years and found the food to be comparable. Thank you, The Sumner's from St. Louis

Always a good experience
Madison Bistro is consistent in the food quality and great service in the dining room. We like the prix fix menus because they are well thought out. We visit NY quarterly and always go there for dinner. The person at the reception desk could be a bit friendlier.

Ideal neighborhood bistro
Madison Bistro is just right. The food is beautifully presented and delicious. The portions are also just the right amount. The menu has a wide selection of French classics expertly prepared.
The staff is attentive, but not intrusive. The room is comfortable and the noise level is such that you can hear your companions speaking easily, but you don't hear other diners conversations.
Also, by New York City standards, the prices are quite reasonable for such high quality.
