Everything I've tried was perfect! The only complaint is long wait time between meals. During the lunch hours, I was the first customer in the restaurant and I spent more than 50% of my time at the restaurant to wait for the food. But I definitely want to go back to the restaurant. :)

Great little gem
My fiance and I found House years ago and had a great romantic evening with amazing food. We were squirming in our seats, it was so good. Perfect cheeses. Perfect wine. I recently went with my mother for Mother's day brunch and had a different, yet still amazing experience. The food was delish. The Bloody Mary's were great (my mother ordered 2) and the service was there but not intrusive (a rare find). Overall, go there. You won't be disappointed.

This restaurant is lovely.
This restaurant is lovely. The wait staff are friendly courteous, knowledgeable and do not intrude.
However, the prices are too high. I have eaten here twice, and enjoyed the meal, but I think $19 fpr a glass of wine and $29 entree for fish + one shared appetizer came to $70 each person.
I will only return for very special occasions, although the location and ambience is great.

Pumped to Go Back
The House is GORGEOUS! What an incredible find. The menu is so enticing it was impossible to choose. I had the red quinoa salad with asparagus, radish, apple and pecans - divine. My lunch companions tried the Montauk tilefish and the taccozette. Rave reviews. Next time I need to bring eaters to try a few more things.

Romantic evening at The House
Small and cosy restaurant with an intimate atmosphere. Food was exceptional and the only problem with the place was deciding what to have! Waiter was delightful and really knew his wines. We sat in the big arched window so had the perfect spot. A really wonderful evening and good value for the high standard of food. Will be back!

I chose the restaurant after
I chose the restaurant after reading online its website and recommendations. Not surprised at all. It was super romantic, great waiter/bar tender and delicious food. The wine list was a bit price. Overall we (my wife and a friend of mine and I) had a quiet nice dinner with an amazing service.
Note to Management: Please have the hostess do a better job in matching the arriving parties. My wife and I came at 9 pm and went upstairs. Ourother party came a minute later but was told taht he was first and was never told that we were upstairs waitinf for him. The restaurant was almost empty (Memorial Day weekend), so it was unexcusable to the hostess to do something as silly as this. We wasted 20 minutes to find ourselves together.

Perhaps it was because it was a Monday night, but our evening at The House was relaxing and intimate. Beautiful surroundings, delicious food and wine, excellent place to converse - not at all rushed - we look forward to returning again!

We really enjoyed our dinner at The House. Everything was delicious. The bone marrow appetizer was out of this world. I also tasted the lamb belly & That was Wonderful ! I would recommend this restaurant.

We celebrated our anniversary here; they gave us the best seats in the house and free champagne as well--it was really sweet them :)

The lobster club sandwich
The lobster club sandwich is very good.
The terrace is very enjoyable.

Excellent restaurant! Small
Excellent restaurant! Small and quaint. A house that was converted into a restaurant. Not a lot of tables which makes it even better. Food was amazing. What sets this place apart by bar...the ambiance.

The House is our go to restaurant
The House is our go to restaurant for celebrations. The menu changes with the seasons and we are never disappointed with the selection. Looking forward to going back.

Outstanding Romantic Dinner
I took my wife to The House for her birthday- our first time there - and we both agreed the food (English Pea and Mint Soup, Diver Sea Scallops, and the House Lasagna) was incredible, the service was friendly and attentive without being overly "butler"-ish, and the atmosphere intimate and charming - perfect for a romantic experience. I totally recommend The House!
7/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
not sure why you dont receive OpenTable points for dining here but this place is fantastic - I walked by and immediately knew I had to book dinner rezzies.

Charming little spot
I had spotted this restaurant a while back. The building is much smaller than I imagined and space is tight but I never felt uncomfortable. The waiter was great and recommended a delicious sauvignon blanc to go with my meal. I had the scallops off the menu and they were fantastic. My husband had the wild boar lasagna and it was tasty but would order something else next time. Worth going to. I liked the atmosphere of the place and the structure/decor is interesting and different.

OMG! Was this a great find. The service and food are top notch. I loved their fish tacos, flat bread and lobster roll. Will be back

Romantic and intimate
Took my gf here for our 6 month and we were blown away. The service was great, the food was delicious, the ambiance was second to none. All across the board, this place was on the money. The scallops were made perfect and the Mac n cheese is phenomenal! A must try if you're looking for a romantic evening. The decor of the carriage house and the old feel, is envigorating.

Great find. Food was excellent and the service was even better. We went here for our anniversary. I was looking for a great restaurant but could nto get a reservation at some of the top-named spots (e.g. Per Se, Daniel, Bouley, etc.) The menu looked great and ambiance was perfect for a quiet night with my wife.
7/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great for reserved eaters
I went to The House with my parents for their anniversary and it was amazing. They are pretty conservative with the food we usually go out to eat, so they were hesitant with trying a new place. However, with every plate that came out, they just fell even more in love.

A Gem on our 1st Anniversary
My wife and I celebrated our one year wedding anniversary at The House. We were not disappointed. The restaurant is beautifully set up, minimalist in its design, but still charming. The wait staff was friendly and had great suggestions. The food presentation was beautiful, and tastes delicious. The wine list was extensive while not being pretentious. I would definitely recommend The House to anyone seeking a cozy romantic meal. I'll definitely be back!

Unique, delightful restaurant
Food, service, ambiance were all great. The only issue is that there needs to be another option or two for vegetarians.
8/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
We visited the house on a Saturday evening in our only week in New York City. The staff was really friendly and welcoming and the food was delicious. They also recommended us a couple of places to go to after dinner and they were just perfect hosts. We absolutely recommend The House :-)
8/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
It had all the things the great reviews claimed and none of the negatives. Went on Sunday night. Couldn't have asked for a better birthday dinner with my girlfriend.
8/18/2013 12:00:00 AM
Excellent food and service
We ordered the market flat bread, the truffle mac n'cheese, and meat lasagna, all of which were fantastic. In addition, the wine is very good. The service is excellent. The place is expensive but worth it.
8/21/2013 12:00:00 AM

We had a great night here. Looove the ambience. Food was amazing
9/7/2013 12:00:00 AM
Went here for an anniversary dinner. First time at The House. Beautiful exterior, pleasant bar downstairs and lovely dining room upstairs. Did not see the tasting table downstairs.
It is small and charming and being re designed from an old carriage house adds a little more to the mix. Romantic and quiet though we went on a Sunday night so wouldn't know if it the same during busier nights.
Wine list is smallish on selection but had the needed basics.
Food was very good and nicely presented. Nothing extreme or too innovative on the menu but was executed wonderfully.
Service was good and non intrusive but not overly special. No real complaints but being in the business I can be picky.
I would definitely recommend to others.
9/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
This restaurant is brilliant. We got married in NYC and went here in the evening for dinner with our friends - the food was amazing, great choice of wines, helpful staff and very reasonable prices. Cannot recommend this place enough!!
9/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
Second time there
Delicious hummus avocado olive appetizer. Was disappointed not to find the medjool date napa cabbage salad on the menu but the red quinoa salad with asparagus was a pretty good in its place.
9/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
A little overpriced for what
A little overpriced for what it was but there were only about 10 tables in the whole restaurant so I could see why they organized and priced the menu the way they did. I was there with my family but I noticed it was all young, rather wealthy looking couples (maybe mid 20's) it was a cool ambience, very intimate and 'hip" for lack of a better word.. Oh and the chairs were pretty uncomfortable after a long work day.
9/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
Romantic setting and delicious food
A really delicious meal from a thoughtful, inventive menu, in a beautiful, quiet but vibrant setting. Very romantic.
10/1/2013 12:00:00 AM
Food was so-so. I think the romantic feel of this place makes the food taste better than it really is. Its worth going to for a romantic dinner.
10/1/2013 12:00:00 AM
Interesting food, mediocre service
The menu had interesting twists on standard dishes, but nothing extremely innovative. The scallops with hazelnut sauce were especially good. They were in the process of changing their wine list, but even so, our server seemed to have little knowledge of wine. Otherwise she was friendly and attentive. The hostess, however, was very rude. We arrived for our10 PM reservation and were told that the upstairs seating area was full and we would have to sit on the ground level. We asked how long the wait would be for the upstairs and she said about 20 mins. We decided to look upstairs to see if it was worth the wait and saw two empty tables. When we came back down, the hostess informed us that they don't seat upstairs after 10 PM.

Another Outstanding Dinner
My wife and I have celebrated a number of special occasions at The House over the past few years and we have never been disappointed. The staff is extremely attentive without being overbearing, the food is delicious, and the ambience is romantic. In the middle of a big city, it is wonderful to have dinner in an intimate space that is so relaxing and welcoming. We will continue to return - every chance we can...
10/10/2013 5:00:00 PM
Wonderful food, but can get
Wonderful food, but can get a bit crowded on weekend evenings, where the noise level interferes with conversation. Other times we've been there on weekdays, the upstairs can be quite intimate and romantic, but if the bar is bustling (and there is the more energetic one downstairs and the smaller one upstairs), even on the weekends, the upstairs becomes too loud. But go on a quiet weekday and you will have one of the most relaxing and enjoyable evenings.
10/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
The biggest problem for me was lighting too dim to read the menu comfortably, otherwise enjoyable thou appetizer pricing a bit extreme
10/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
Very nice, quiet, intimate setting
Wonderful restaurant with a small upstairs dining room that promotes intimate conversations in whispered voices. Delicious, ambitious menu. The Lasagna is not to be missed!

Cozy & flavorful
Tuesday is our date night and the House was almost everything we hoped it would be. Flawless service by Chelsea, with a perfect salad and delectable duck, could not ask for more (except for the heavenly chocolate cake). Is it wrong for a small restaurant specializing in "intimate and romantic" to ask a rowdy noisy table of diners to quiet down? A question for the restaurant Gods. On a busy Friday or Saturday night, you might want to avoid what could be a very loud environment. It was so noisy when we arrived (the restaurant was not full) that we almost bolted. I' m glad we didn't.
10/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
We ate in the bar area. But it was dim lighting setting a romantic tone to celebrate a birthday. We started with oysters (east and west coast) which we enjoyed - (although note we're not oyster aficionados but have had our fair share). Then we also started w the duck confit. A true show stopper! I would go back only for that. It was over polenta with mushrooms and a gravy that was rich and smooth and decadent. I ordered the steak with a tastey herb butter and he got braised short ribs - both very good. And we ended with the chocolate ganash cake, again, true show stopper! Light and silky texture but full of flavor. With the bottle of fabulous wine, great atmosphere and mouth-watering food, we will be back. Also, our service was excellent!
10/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
We ate here for dinner and were not disappointed!! An eclectic selection, all of them outstanding. Our server, Josh, was friendly and knowledgable. We are planning to have a private party here soon!
10/24/2013 5:00:00 PM
Very cozy with fire in the fireplace to boot. The food is excellent but it's also a great spot for grabbing a drink by the fire. One of my favorite places in NYC.

Cozy Place with Great Menu
Great setting in Gramercy / Union Square. Friendly staff and good food.

Good Meal Near Union Square
We ate dinner on the first level. It's a small dining area and bar. Beautiful architecture. We had a big lunch, so wanted a small meal.
I had the duck confit and a side of braised greens The duck was an appetizer but plenty served atop polenta. The greens were a side, but part of two other meals on the menu. Our server had to check with the chef to find out if he'd make an exception and serve it as a side, and he did. The greens were prepared simply, and very good.
The atmosphere in this restaurant made it very special. I enjoyed every bite.

This is a great spot for an
This is a great spot for an enjoyable evening. The menu choices are diverse (and the short ribs are a 'must'), the wine list is limited but adequate, and the service is pleasant and attentive. The noise is a bit heavy-duty, but one can sit as long as one wants, dawdling at the end of dinner, without feeling rushed to vacate the table.

Our 20th Anniversary Dinner
We wanted to pick some place nice, with good food and atmosphere but not outrageously expensive. The House fit the bill perfectly. They have a very good wine list—we tend toward the lower priced wines and these were all very good—and the food was excellent. It was the Wednesday evening before Thanksgiving so it was very quiet and not at all crowded (although there were a dozen or so people downstairs and almost that many upstairs); I don't know what it's when it's full but we had no trouble having a normal conversation. I would definitely go back.
11/26/2013 4:00:00 PM
good first trip
Very nice cozy restaurant. Food and service very good. Tables are on the small side and because of cozy size can be loud.

Lunch at The House
The space is a beautifully restored carriage house, 3 levels, intimate atmosphere and achieves a spacious feel in small quarters. Service was perfect and waiter's French accent was a plus! Us two shared 4 menu items for lunch, which wss just the right amount - a little too much! The Bibb salad, mushroom flatbread, truffled fingerling potatoes - terrific. The farro "rissoto" with butternut squash, fennel and shallots should win the Official Comfort Food of the year award - wonderful. Bill including tip was $40.00 per person.
