Impeccable service and food
Impeccable service and food as always. The black cod appetizer is out of this world, as are any of the sushi choices.

OMAKASEs are must tries, very fresh and delicious.

One of the best Sushi restuarants in New York City. Food was incredible.

Terrific restaurant, understandably
Terrific restaurant, understandably earns it's Michelin rating. Impeccable service with thoughtful and balanced comments and recommedations on everything from Sake to entree choices. Server was asked about choosing between two different entrees and instead offered to create half-portions of both. Beyond expectation. Presentations were terrific, sushi spectacular and entrees were very good. A bit pricey for portion size (NYC) but quality and originality were spot on.

Fantastic Sushi and Japanese Fare
We are sushi fanatics and 15 East exceeded our expectations in several ways: 1) Great service!; 2) Fantastic sushi and sashimi; 3) a warm and friendly environment. We started with a "degustation of sea lettuces" as something unique and different. We were served 7 or 8 different varieties of sea lettuce, each unique and different, and all complex and flavorful. The 2nd course was the grilled gindara (koji sake marinated black cod in uni sauce) which was amazing! Course 3 was the sushi omakase (chef's selection of 10 pieces of sushi) and blew our minds! We thought we had good sushi before, but this set a new standard! We finished with seared sea scallops with squid ink risotto, spinach & shiitake, sea urchin butter. What a finish!

The sushi is great here, but
The sushi is great here, but unless you sit at the bar it could seem like an overpriced sushi restaurant.

The restaurant was very accommodati
The restaurant was very accommodating. Every request was met quickly and without a questions whether it was for more wasabi or the miso soup which didn't apear on the menu. There was a bit of a wait between plates from the kitchen and sushi bar. The chef did come out to speak to people he knew at the table next to us, and then came to our table to make sure everything was satisfactory. Only complaint is that there wasn't an even flow of courses...everything from the kitchen came then a long wait then all of the sushi. Nitpicking just to try and find a complaint though. Phenomenal meal over all

I have had a great experience in this restaurant; it can not be compared to other japanese restaurant. The sashimis are simply the best I have experienced ! thanks

Quality, not quantity
While portions are smaller than one might expect elsewhere, the food is first rate. While the kitchen preparations are interesting and inventive (although the abalone risotto was somewhat nondescript), the sushi remains the high point of this restaurant.

Sure it's pricey, but so is a Ferrari. If you put having a superb meal and an unparalleled dining experience at the top of your list, then it's well worth every penny. Simply an amazing experience from the moment I walked in.

One of the bests in ny for Savuts
My first impression from the outside was what a mystical place is this behind the curtains! Inside, a transparent bar welcomes you to a very refine decoration and dramatic lightining. Confortable seats, excellent service, delicious sashimi and sushi choices made our night an unforgetable one!
We have already recomended 15 East to our close friends. Thanks and conguratulations.

The Sashimi was delicate and miraculous
The portions were a bit small so be prepared to double the order if you are a fish lover

Best Sushi in the city.
Yeah I said it. For my money, 15 East is the best sushi/sashimi in the city. Nobu? Blue Ribbon? Morimoto? Uh huh. THIS is my pick. And they have hot dishes for those who are not into fish - the Korubata Pork Belly is amazing. Their desserts are fantastic. And the Nippon-centric alcohol offerings are stupendous. Things have picked up since I first discovered 15 East three years ago, so I don't feel bad about outting them as the best in the city - what was once a Zen-calm room is now fairly energetic with diners, what used to be an impeccable reservation system seems now rife with lateness in turning tables. But it's worth the wait. No table? sit at the bar and chat with the sushi masters hard at their craft. You're welcome.

Best Sushi in the City
Lovely dining room that is romantic at night, bright in the day. Excellent service. I can't speak to any of the hot dishes, but judging by the caliber of the unusual and excellent desserts I will have to guess they are as outstanding as the sushi, which is the true star here. A delight every time we return.

As near perfect as you can get.
Really, this restaurant seems to have it all. Great food, wonderful servers, an original approach to Japanese cuisine, a very tranquil setting. I couldn't ask for more.

Elegant sushi in serene setting
I only came to 15 East because I wanted quality sashimi in downtown New York and what I got was above and beyond. The service was impeccable, the sommeillier was very knowledgable and the staff unpretentious. They were very accomodating despite my being with a baby, and I am now very curious to try their other restaurant down the block. The sushi was very high quality and I would definitely recommend this place as a nice peaceful respite from the chaos of the city.
6/8/2013 12:00:00 AM
The Sashimi and the sushi were superb, especially the mackerel, salmon, scallop, oyster and the sea eel on top of everything else. My best Japanese dining ever.
6/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great food. Great service.
Great food. Great service. I really enjoyed it. I do think the price can be more reasonable.

Cozy and delicious
We outsourced our entire experience to the knowledgable staff and chef with the 6 course tasting menu and Sake pairing selections. The sashimi and sushi courses were both spectacular, with my standout favorite being the Toro roll.
Seating was a little cramped, but it's a guilty pleasure to eavesdropping on a neighbor's romantic dinner conversation.

Sushi and sashimi were superb!
The service was impeccable and the food was glorious! Thanks, 15 East!
My dad had the tuna flight which almost brought me to tears by just looking at it! I had a bite and the fattiest tuna was just superb.
I had the sashimi omakase which consisted of a good amount of the freshest fish! I had to consciously take my time to ensure I didn't gobble up the entire plate in less than a minute. The sashimi was perfect. My favorite had to be scallop and the hamachi!
To start, we shared the slow-poached octopus which is definitely a must-have. The octopus was so tender and delicious. We also had a seasonal dry sake with a hint of fruit -- recommended by the sake sommelier.
All in all, we had a perfect meal at 15 East! Cheers!

For someone that really appreciates sushi/sashimi this place is quite good. I would definitely recommend for a local quality sushi restaurant. Great location, very fresh fish.

Elegant, modern sushi
There are lots of great Japanese restaurants in New York and this is certainly among them, what stands out as exceptional is the service. The staff here are professional, friendly but not intrusive, observant but not hovering and timed to perfection.

Best sushi in town!!!
This is an amazing restaurant. I sat at the sushi bar, and all we ate was sushi, but the other plates looked amazing as well. The sushi is AAA quality and the fish could not be any fresher. I have been to Japan many times, and this is in terms of food quality and presentation of the true sushi, identical and better then many restaurants in Japan, as far as sushi goes. I was amazed to find this quality of sushi here in NYC. The chef Masato, amazing!!!!
8/1/2013 12:00:00 AM
The sushi at 15 East is always delicious and as good as can be found in New York. 15 East is not just a sushi bar, but also an excellent restaurant with a great wine and saki list. The soft shell crab appetizer with had was one of the best renditions of soft shell I have had in a long time and all of the sushi we ate was distinctive, fresh and outstanding. The restaurant is great for a date or with a small group to catch up.

Must save room for desserts. They are creative, balanced and incredibly delicious. Service was delightful.

Best in town ?
Don't know as I use to live in Europe but surely one of the best japanese experience I ever had.
Quality of the products, service, wine list. The prices are even "reasonnable" taking into account the one-star Michelin gained

The Art of Japanese cuisine
I've been to many excellent Japanese restaurants in Manhattan because this is my favorite cuisine. 15 East is, without doubt, the best of the best. The food so finely prepared (the slow poached octopus is exquisite!) and so beautifully presented, you will be delighted by each and every mouthful. These chefs are full fledged artisans, or artists. Although small, the environment is elegant and comfortable. Service is impeccable. And, depending on the clientele, the room is not noisy. There is a very nice selection of sakes in various price ranges. Also good wines available for those who prefer it. Highly recommend this restaurant for lovers of Japanese food or for diners trying this cuisine for the first time. You're sure to return.

Very good food, but the service
Very good food, but the service was annoyingly slow and unorganized.

The fish was outstanding but
The fish was outstanding but some of the hot food fell flat. The service could also be a bit faster, especially when there are clearly spare waiters and waitresses standing around. overall a good experience -- would go back for sushi/sashimi only.
10/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
excellent fish quality, presentation, menu. Service equally great. A minor mishap occurred. It was handled professionally with great care.
I would recommend this place time and again. I have been there a number of times and was delighted each time.
10/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
The experience from reservation confirmation to paying the check, customer services was spot on! Staff was knowledgeable and made some good recommendations. The sashimi was fresh and the preparation of the food was delightful. Thank you and we'll be back.
10/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
The quality of the fish here is outstanding. The tasting menu was not really great - just order a la carte.

Find Peace at 15 East
Walk through the door into another world. I have now eaten here three times. Once, I had dinner at the bar, then I stopped in for lunch and had the most sublime soba. I dragged my husband and another couple there on Halloween. 15 East was fantastic every single time. The wait staff take care of you and are absolutely lovely. I'll be going back.... maybe for lunch next week. The prix fixe lunch is a great deal. This is expensive, though - so keep that in mind.

Best Omakase in New York
We choose this Japanese restaurant to entertain our visiting Chicago foodie guest. The setting is small, serene and very well decorated which helps to enjoy the lovely, fresh food. We all loved the home-made ginger tofu soy.
The sashimi omakase is varied and beautifully presented. I told the waitress that I liked uni (sea urchin) and the sushi chef included that on my plate. The prices are in line with the quality and not inexpensive.

Good sushi but expensive
Good sushi but expensive for what you get. Excellent ambience
11/8/2013 4:00:00 PM
Great food, price on the high side
I thought there was too much raw fish in the tasting menu. A sashimi course followed by nigiri sushi had me too full.
11/8/2013 4:00:00 PM
Great food but not authentic feel
The food here is very good, the decor is nice. It doesn't feel like an authentically Japanese experience but just don't expect that from the start. Also, despite the sushi being very good compared to other places in the city, the portions are very small, even by Japanese standards (take it from someone who lived in Japan for many years).
11/8/2013 4:00:00 PM
Excellent food and fresh ingredients! Tried a number of items from the menu and was not disappointed! Customer service was outstanding. Will definitely return!
11/8/2013 4:00:00 PM
I liked that the music was low enough to allow for conversation, therefore a good place for business lunch or dinner. The food is exquisite and the place very spare and elegant.
I would return for both personal and business meals
11/13/2013 4:00:00 PM
Food was great. Don't miss the uni risotto! Hot mushroom soba was also prepared to perfection. The sushi was very fresh.

Fiance's birthday dinner
Wow! What a great meal. From the moment we walked in, everyone treated us like guests in their home. After reading so many positive reviews about eating at the sushi bar, I reserved us 2 seats for my fiance's birthday. Once we sat, the chef knew it was my fiance's birthday and said happy birthday right away. After our first tasting, he sent over a huge octopus with a candle in it. It was so funny! Everyone at the sushi bar was laughing and that set the tone for the meal. It was so classy and the fish was so amazing but we felt like we were with friends with Chef Masa. We had a wonderful time and will recommend it to anyone who wants great sushi and sustainable produce from the Green Market!

Service not very helpful ..
We where visiting NY and this was our second time at 15East. The food was wonderful and we enjoyed our dinner very much.
Our daughter (8 ) fell asleep during dinner and we asked if they could call us a taxi, but we where told they don't offer taxi service and that we should walk around the corner and find one ourselves.
Not very helpful!

Food and Service was amazing, quite expensive but similar to other high end Sushi Restaurants in the City.
