we had sunday brunch-definitely glad we made a reservation, it fills up quick. but we were still given the choice to sit inside or outside. food was great-fresh fruit, eggs benedict, pecan waffles. waiter was very attentive with coffee refills and very pleasant as was the rest of the staff. would definitely love to go back for dinner. walked off brunch along the wissahickon afterwards. great day all around.

Historical Ambiance in Fairmount Pk
I took my friend to Valley Green Inn on a beautiful Spring afternoon, knowing that they too would love the ambiance of this historical inn. They did. The luncheon menu surpassed my expectations so we all dined in complete bliss! Our waitress had a funny, quirky personify that topped off the experience. Of course, if the weather had cooperated and if it had been 10-15 degrees warmer - we could have dined on the porch. We' ll just have to come back in June or July! :-)

A most pleasant early evening
A most pleasant early evening meal. Menu was surprisingly varied and well prepared. Service was friendly and very attentive, but not intrusive..

Favorite Lunch Spot
Having lunch at The Valley Green Inn is always on my "must do" list when I have out of town guests. The food is consistently good; I always get the Salmon Club and sweet potato chips because they are so good. The staff is always friendly. The setting along Wissahickon Creek is special and beautiful in all seasons.

Eating lunch at Valley Green
Eating lunch at Valley Green brought back many memories of visiting with family members. We saw duck families (with babies) along the Wissahickon and wish we had had time to take a walk after we ate. We had a very pleasing light lunch (salmon sandwich, quiche) and the staff could not have been nicer and more accommodating! I like the artwork inside. If it had been a little warmer that day we would've eaten outside! We live in other areas now and were visiting Philadelphia--we will come again next visit.

The Brunch was fabulous and will definitely be bringing our friends back with us.

Really memorable dinner!
We had dinner and found the food to be outstanding, as was the service. The restaurant is charming and is in a lovely setting. We definitely will return.

One of our favorite places to eat set in picturesque Philadelphia's famous park. Food is very good but don't forget to walk afterwards along Forbidden Drive. Start with the baked Brie and stay for dessert.

This is a charming & quaint
This is a charming & quaint old inn with attentive, friendly staff. There are lots of options from which to choose on the menu. Creative dessert offerings were all tempting too! Service was quite good. Judy our server was excellent. Platters were beautifully presented, portions were generous and well prepared. Each of us in our lunch party really enjoyed our meals!

This place was adorable. My husband and I celebrated our 1 year wedding anniversary here and had a wonderful brunch, and even with the wedding occurring at the same time, it was quiet and perfect for our date. There are also great trails in the area, so if you want to work up an appetite, or feel like you ate too much walking through the park is a definitely good option. We will be back next year to celebrate 2 years.

Pricey Father's Day Brunch
The food is always good at Valley Green, but the Father's Day Brunch was a bit overpriced for what was being offered. For $30, I would have expected a full buffet, not just entrees like fancy French toast.
6/15/2013 4:00:00 PM
Perfect place for brunch
Also for animal lovers. Terrific food, wonderful location - literally in the middle of a park overlooking a scenic creek with ducks & geese. Hikers, cyclists, and dog-walkers abound. If you sit on the porch you can pet the doggies as they go by. The food is terrific, especially for a Sunday brunch. Couldn't be a nicer place.
6/15/2013 4:00:00 PM
We have been going to Valley Green on Fathers Day for many years. The price was higher this year and the selection was less and dessert not included. Still a nice place.

Get date spot
My girlfriend and I had a wonderful night at the Valley Green Inn; great food, people and scenery awesome date spot!

Fabulous for outdoor dining
Fabulous for outdoor dining if you can find it! Great service, good selection
6/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
We already loved for dinner and brunch was by far best brunch we have had in years!!!
6/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
You can't believe you're in a city; the whole Wissahickon is a treasure and Valley Green is a stand-out gem.

First time, unique setting
Food is a winner here. Our server was Todd whe steered us away from items which were not up to par that day (sweet potato chips). Will have to return to try those chips later. Some vegetarian options but limited. Check menu before you go. Had a nice walk by the river after our meal. Not overly busy on a hot Friday for lunch.
7/5/2013 12:00:00 AM
Everything was very good. We ordered 5 different dinners and 4 were very good...pork chop was overdone. Room was quiet as there were only two others present. We were able to hear each other easily. Will return.

World War 2
Throughly enjoyed the food, however, we were seated next to 2 elderly couples who were discussing WW2 and what the Germans did and didn't do. Not exactly, what I wanted to hear while I was eating, or actually at any time. I felt like is was 1946 and these guys had just returned from the war.
The food was wonderful and I would return again.

A Gem of a Restaurant
The setting at the Valley Green Inn, in the Wissahickon Park is fabulous. We ate outside on the porch during the week, the summer weather was comfortable, the view of the Wissahickon Creek, tranquil. The waitstaff was friendly, professional and knowledgeable. We were entertaining a friend from out of town and he very much enjoyed the experience. The food was excellent, we had the crabcakes and porkchop, which were outstanding. Desserts, mango sorbet and blueberry cobbler were just as good. We would return again, especially nice for entertaining friends from out of town or a special occassion. the drive to the restaurant is beautiful, parking is free and a stroll along the Wissahickon is a welcome advantage.

Dining on the Wissahickon Creek
Dining at the Valley Green Inn located along the Wissahickon Creek is both a sensory and culinary delight. The inn itself is chock full of history and the food was both well presented and very tasty. While dining on the porch provides an excellent visual experience if you enjoy people watching, dining indoors takes you back in time. The wait staff is both friendly and efficient and the chef, whoever he or she may be, is very talented. The menu is comprehensive and the serving size spot on to ensure you are satisfied without the guilt of being wasteful. This is just a very pleasant experience and sharing it with someone from out of town makes it especially nice.

Pets Allowed at the outside tables
We brought our English Setter and there was a bowl of water for dogs. Not many restaurants provide such amenities for pets.
Hooked her leash around leg of a table and all had a lovely time.

Good time. Excellent food
We had been there one before for brunch. Enjoyed it. As it is a long trip for us this was the first time back. Started with an enjoyable walk along the paths of Valley Green. We dined in a charming rustic but well kept up inn. Service was excellent. Food was outstanding. The chef provided dinner with a flair. I understand she started as a pastry chef. Start with baked Brie in a wonderful pastry. Salmon was excellent. Meatloaf Napoleon outstanding. Prices reasonable. Will go back.

Forgotten Place to Eat
Don't know that I've ever had a meal there before but used to hike w/my grandfather and get ice cream at the snack window. It's a beautiful old inn and the food was fantastic. Service was great. We were attended to but not rushed. Had a lovely view of the path and creek.

Serene Sunday Brunch
We were early for our reservation & was sested at once - Scott our waiter - was a gracious host - our party arrived 30 minutes late - we were NOT hurried from start to finish - food was excellent - service the same - WILL RETURN
8/3/2013 5:00:00 PM
We went for a walk on the gorgeous Forbidden Drive Trail and then arrived a bit early for our brunch reservation - they neglected us for a while after seating us, but when they realized it, they went overboard to make it up to us! It hadn't been that bad - waiting while enjoying the beautiful view of the Wissahickon Creek! The service and the food were outstanding. We'll be back for sure - and recommend it to others!

Valley Green Inn
Was recommended to me by a friend who grew up
in the area. It was a wonderful recommendation.
We would def come again if ever in the EastCoast
Brunch was delicious from the coffee to breads
to the fruit salad to the eggs Benedict !
8/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
We had a really great time at brunch. It's a good deal at $19, the food was great, and the staff was very attentive and friendly. Absolutely would come back!

We had a lovely dinner sitting
We had a lovely dinner sitting on the porch overlooking the Wissahickon creek. The food was absolutely delicious!! The brie in pastry is to die for! Our waitress, Rhonda, was awesome. This was our first time here....we are already planning a return.
8/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
Nice Place for Brunch
Eating on the Porch when the weather is nice is great. Went for brunch, very generous portion sizes that require a doggy bag. Slightly on the expensive side.
8/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
I took my girlfriend there for her birthday. The food was spot on with nothing I'd change. Beware when sitting on the porch if people tie there dogs up outside, because you will be serenaded by barking.

The Bestest Porch With A Great View
Valley Green Inn is old and beautifully located. The food is good to above average, not great. But the setting in the woods overlooking the Wissahickon can't be beat. The price for Sunday brunch at $18.95 includes soup or salad, and an entree. $18.95 for brunch might strike some as high but it's a lot lower than many places. Be a bit patient with the service; it's good not great (1 server, Rhonda, was terrific). Just sit back and relax and enjoy.

historic inn and great setting
Delightful historic inn on park grounds. Great walking areas. Great food, good selection. Absolute find within city limits.

A wonderful dinner! The food
A wonderful dinner! The food was outstanding, with great selections and unusual preparations. Our table of 3 enjoyed every course ordered. While I had previously enjoyed the setting, this somewhat 'new' chef will get us back soon because her food was terrific! The experience does depend a bit on weather, since one is in the middle of Fairmont park, but it is a lovely setting by a creek and a great old inn.

fun eating outdoors..
Enjoyed eating lunch on the porch in early Sept'13. Passer-byes were not too numerous and very few barking doggies this time around. Servers handled both indoor and outdoors very well...no delays...
9/5/2013 12:00:00 AM
A traditional favorite.
I have come to this lovely Inn for almost 50 years off and on. It has an imaginative new (3 years) chef and has excellent food and a unique ambiance.
9/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
fabulous service, historic location
service was fantastic -- the server, the hostess, even the parking attendant... 5 stars for all of them
but the food was only decent - not spectacular.
9/14/2013 12:00:00 AM
I had run by this place a few times and had been wanting to try it, so my wife and I went for brunch on Saturday. However, brunch is only served on Sundays. We had lunch instead, which was fine, but the food left something to be desired. We sat out on the patio and it was a perfect morning, so the atmosphere was great. I would recommend this place if you are looking for a leisurely brunch or lunch in a relaxing atmosphere. I will definitely go back on a Sunday to try brunch.

We had a nice brunch ! Food was great and we were well fed
9/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
As with historic, century-old buildings, the main dining area features wood plank floors and turn of the century charm. A modern menu manages to capture the flavors of entrees from a time long ago. Service is friendly and attentive to a diner's needs. A delightful venue for an evening meal.
9/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
Great atmosphere, great food
This place had been recommended to me by a friend many times, but I never got to check it out. I stumbled upon eating here, as it had gotten great reviews for lunch with a view. I wanted a fun, but special place to celebrate my fiance's birthday, and this really was the spot! Great atmosphere, beautiful scenery, delicious food, and just all around perfect experience. We'll definitely be there again!

Perfect for a Fall Sunday Brunch!
We dined on the porch overlooking the creek. Food and service were excellent. Tables were a little small for 4. I was thrilled that they offered THE historic dish of the region: Catfish and Waffles. Highly recommended!

Wonderful in the Woods
Valley Green hosted us for a delicious birthday luncheon. We arrived early, and we they happily welcomed us anyway.

The biggest hassle is parking. There is none. If you dare park somewhere you should not you will get a ticket. I did and that is a disgrace. It is too bad b/c I bet this deters a lot of people.
10/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
We had a great time
We were looking for somewhere a bit special to have lunch; this was definitely the place to come. Great location, great food, great service. Couldn't have wished for better. Already planning the next visit.

Not Just For Thanksgiving Anymore!
For years Valley Green Inn meant one thing: Thanksgiving. I worked almost every one and VGI had a Noon seating so we'd have the Thanksgiving meal there and do the home cooked one on Saturday. But about 7 years ago I started taking Thanksgiving off and VGI faded from memory. Until last Friday night! I have a friend who lives nearby but had never been. So VGI suddenly turned into her new neighborhood restaurant! Sat by the fireplace. Martinis...baked brie and ravioli appetizers...filet and Diver scallop entrees. All was right with the world. Valley Green Inn. It's not just for special occasions anymore!

Came here for lunch and loved it. The service was great and food was outstanding.
11/15/2013 4:00:00 PM
Our group of five all had an enjoyable lunch at the Valley Green Inn. The restaurant is an old historic building that sits on the banks of the Wissahickon Creek, very scenic with rustic elegance. The food was very good and satisfied all our varied tastes. The hot mulled cider and butternut squash soup were particularly enjoyable on a cold winter day. Our waitress was warm and friendly and offered some helpful suggestions about the food. She even offered tasting samples of the soup to help us in our selections. I would certainly recommend this restaurant to friends and family.

Celebrating a Birthday
My wife and I visited Valley Green to celebrate her birthday. We've been there a few times before and have never been disappointed. I made reservations, and ordered flowers for the table. Upon our arrival, they took us directly to our table and just as planed, the flowers were there. The place is small and cozy. We were right next to the fireplace, on a cold December night. Service was very attentive, we never had to look for our server, the food was fantastic and brought to us at a very comfortable pace. I would certainly go again in a heart beat.
