Nice little place!
Very nice dinner - the shrimp and grits were great! Some things on the menu are hit or miss, but its nice atmosphere and convenient downtown location - love that!

For us, great discovery!!
For us, great discovery!! Perfect for a concert at DAR Constitution Hall. The bistro effect is warm and convivial, the 3-course pris fixe is an unbelievable bargain, and we really enjoyed the food: butternut squash soup with a touch of coconut milk, house salad with perfect pichioline olives, tender tournedos [but ask for it a grade rarer than you really want...,] first-class creme brulee. Because we rarely eat downtown, Soleil was 'new'-- but we'll return.

A great find in DC
We tried this spot for an early dinner before the theater. The dining room is charming, but the tables are a bit too close together for my comfort. Our server was excellent and friendly, and we found some great choices on the wine list. Dinner was delicious. We had the ahi tuna app and a Caesar salad, and then the halibut entree and the shrimp primavera. Definitely a place I would return to......maybe for Happy Hour next time. The bar area looked very inviting!

Nice spot for late dining
We dined late, after a Smithsonian lecture, and the initially crowded and noisy dining room cleared and quieted markedly by the time we finished. I greatly enjoyed the spicy Shrimp & Grits entree while my girlfriend had a couple appetizers, including a nice baked brie. Her appetite perked up as we ate and she ordered the Lamb Shank, which she rememberd fondly from earlier visits, to go and reported that it was delicious the following day. Cafe Soleil is convenient for Metrorail and an easy place to catch a cab.

Good food. Good Service.
As tourists in an unfamiliar town, Cafe Soleil was wonderful find. The service was very good, as was the food. Though limited, the menu offered a variety of healthy and appealing options. The noise level was moderate allowing conversation, but there were periodic interruptions as tables were crammed together requiring adjustment of chairs when other diners were arriving or departing.

Great food - Improve service
Food was very good and our server was working very hard. only saw two servers all night and very little help for staff. At times we had to wait and food was not hot when it came out. Other server did not tend to tables well and did not show any sense of urgency that it was busy.
Part of our order (dessert) was forgotten by kitchen and was going to take 10 minutes longer to make after we were able to get servers attention (other two people already had finished dessert).

Very nice restaurant-- good wine and food. We especially enjoyed the flatbread.

They gave us a very odd seat initially - a round table for three people (a booth on one side and a chair on the other (which is fine) but then there was a huge armchair for the third seat). It was very odd. They were kind enough to move us and we ended up at a table in the corner. Still a tight fit but much better. Seating and space to move around in there is pretty tight.

Charming French Cafe
Cafe Soleil is a very pretty little restaurant with the ambiance and menu of a French cafe, with good service and a lot of food options from sandwiches to bistro fare. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly and although it's in a hotel it's not a typical hotel restaurant. It was a great option within walking distance of DAR Constitution Hall, conveniently located right at Farraget West metro station. A great find for us so we'll definitely be back.

good food when there are few option
There are not that many nice places in this area and we were looking for something for before a show at DAR Constitution Hall. We told the server we had a show in 1 hour and he was great. We each had a glass of wine, apps and an entree. The server was very accomodating to our time crunch. It was noisy and the tables are close together, but it still felt intimate and good for a date-night. Way better than the PotBelly option across the street.

Third visit to Cafe Soleil
This was our third visit to Cafe Soleil. We do not get downtown for dinner much though Steph does work downtown. All three visits have been for dinner prior to attending an event at the Kennedy Center. I found Cafe Soleil on Open Table the first time in searching for a cafe close to Metro and on our way to the Center. Love the ambiance. It is a gem city in the hustle and bustle of a main street. We have always enjoyed the food. Last night I had the lamb shank and Steph had the filet. We started with a great Ahi appetizer. The shank was excellent and Steph's filet done perfectly. Service is outstanding, we promptly greeted and seated at a table next to the open French Doors. We will be back next time we are looking for dinner downtown.

One of the best to take a date
I have been coming to Cafe Soleil for years now, but they once again exceeded my expectations the other evening with a wonderful meal and professional, but friendly service (George). While I used to regularly stop in for a drink at the bar on my way home from work, I now come less often, but almost always on a special occasion or with a date. Just can't miss. I try and reserve in advance and score one of the two small tables next to the French doors which are open to the street in the spring and summer. While the view out onto 17th street is not the most romantic, the people watching is great and the cafe does its part generating an international feel.

Nice medium priced French Bistro
Found Café Soleil on Open Table for a Saturday evening dinner. Menu included a number of French and other dishes that were reasonably priced for a mid-town restaurant. Dining room opens to 17th street with a few outside tables but with 90 degree temps we stayed inside with open view to the street. Littleneck clams in wine broth with capers, parsley and garlic was unusual appetizer if you are a caper lover. My wife had the Maryland Crab soup special as her appetizer and it was a generous bowl that was very good. We split a wedge salad that was also excellent and plenty for two. I had a Tuna entrée that was cooked perfectly at medium rare with a slightly sweet sauce but unusual with wilted arugula and sautéed ginger that were great sides.

Great place to meet friends
Great place to meet friends for a dinner in an atmosphere that lets eat and talk and take your time. Service is very good and food is good. You are able to relax and enjoy the meal and not feel rushed.

Even though this restaurant is only one block from my office I had never eaten there until last week. I love salmon and my lunch was very good. I especially liked the fact that we were seated inside but felt like we were outside because we had a table next to the floor to ceiling windows (really doors) that were open. I would definietly eat there again.

First time diner at this restaurant
This was our first visit to this restaurant. Its located nearby the Farragut West Metro station. The Hostess / our Server - Yanett was very personalable and attentitive. My wife and I had pasta dishes - Shrimp Primerva & Cafe Soleil Penne. Both were quite good. Despite having a time crunch - we had a theater show to attend, Yanett did a great job of keeping the pace of the food & drinks on-time and we didn't feel rushed. Good food and service, will be back for another dinner and show next month.

Nice and quaint
My wife and I enjoyed our visit to Cafe Soleil. The restaurant is rather small but has a lovely ambience. The food wasn’t to die for but was above average. I would recommend this restaurant for couples looking for a nice and quaint place to eat.

Just short of outstanding
Excellent appetizers (broccoli and calamari). Outstanding scallops and excellent halibut, but quality of steak a little disappointing. Two red wines of high quality at reasonable prices.

Wow is all that I can say
A consistent gem! We dined here 2years ago for supper and enjoyed the same great atmosphere, the same great service, and the same great food. The Heidelburger is AWESOME as well as the Orange Crush. Be sure to try their outstanding Fries as well. This is what I expect from an Open Table restaurant.

What a haven for an unhurried meal after work. The service here is consistently wonderful and the food is great. In good weather, two big windows on the sidewalk are opened, and there's enough buffer from the foot traffic that it is a delight for diners. I'm so glad I discovered this small gem at Club Quarters, just around the corner from the 17th St. Farragut West Metro exit.

great food; no elbow room
On this most recent visit, I was pleasantly surprised to find that Restaurant Week had been extended. I had the butternut squash soup w/ pulled duck and it was absolutely fantastic! The salmon w/ peach salsa was also wonderful. Chocolate mousse was good but not especially memorable. The only real negative was how close together the tables were. It was impossible to get in and out of the tables withou re-arranging the furniture. I had trouble getting into my seat without hitting someone w/ my purse, and I got banged twice by bags or purses when others entered or exited. And we could hear the entire conversation at the next table which limited the business conversation we wanted to have. Removing even one table would be a big improvement.

A hidden gem
Cafe Soleil is definitely a cut above your average lunch spot. Linen tablecloths and napkins, impeccable service, wonderful food: to me these are the hallmarks of a restaurant with a strong pedigree. The wonderful thing about it is you don't have to pay an arm and a leg. Somehow the management here seems to equate customer satisfaction with success, and they haven't jacked up their prices like other comparable restaurants in the downtown area. Bottom line is, this is a great place for an "attitude adjustment" lunch, where you need a break from the hectic fast-paced lifestyle Washingtonians lead. It's my favorite "go-to" lunch spot.

Food was excellent, but the service could have stood a little work. I was waiting for the rest of my party, and they brought me water, but then did not talk to me again until my friends came and asked if we could order drinks. I would have liked to have ordered a drink earlier. Also, they were very nice and gave us Happy Hour drink prices at the dinner table, which apparently is not normally something that they do. Overall the experience was very good. I particularly liked the brussel spouts appetizer!

First couple date since Baby #2
My wife and I met for lunch and really enjoyed the restaurant and the setting. Great spot.

My friend and I went there. I ordered for grilled chicken with salad. Sparking water with sliced green lime. I enjoy it. Service keep us up to make sure everything what we need or something. We got there at 5 PM for dinner before we finished our work that time. My friend ordered grilled chicken, white rice, and broccoli. He likes them and ate all of them. So do I. I'm glad to get back there again. It's pretty while for me. I will go back there again in the further more.

NIce place for pre-showt dinner.
When we have an event at DAR Hall or the Kennedy center we meet here for dinner after work. Never had a problem with reservations. The wine list while limited in size is broad in depth. Have always found a wine we like. The menu is offers an interesting selection—I am fond of the lamb shank. Ambiance is nice. Have heard the bar section has a great happy hour but have not partaken.

Substantial portions. Chairs were uncomfortable. Café Soleil was not the most upbeat place - perhaps because it was Sunday night. Wine choices by the glass are very limited.

A very pleasant evening
We had a delightful dinner at Cafe Soleil. The food was very good, service was very attentive but not overbearing and the atmosphere of a small dining room was very appealing and relaxing.
Our waiter did not rush us and allowed us to remain after the meal was complete. It was also a good value for the price and very conveniently located to several Metro lines.

Great Farewell Lunch
A colleague was moving out of the area, so we decided to go to Cafe Soleil for a farewell luncheon. The food was outstanding!
We had warm brie for an appetizer (the selection of crackers/cookies was delicious). Entrees were tilapia, salmon and grilled vegies -- all were delicious and shared with each other. The Christmas decorations were beautiful. This is definitely a wonderful restaurant.
