My first thought is the service
My first thought is the service was superior. Always available, never pushy; explained everything, good recommendations.
Menu selections are very good. Everything we ordered was good. They have some creative cocktails and an ok wine list.
It's not an expensive restaurant so don't expect expensive gourmet extravagance, but within the bounds that define a mid-priced menu, they do an exceptional job. We will go back. There are more goodies to try.

The pear salad was light and
The pear salad was light and good. The baby back rib appetizers were a little too chewy, but had a good flavor and I liked the purple cabbage underneath for presentation and eating. My husband's Beef bourguignon was wonderfully tender. And my Scallops were wonderful, but I could have definitely had more that two. Our son had a dessert with chocolate and ice cream and croissant in a ramekin. We enjoyed it much more than my crepe, which was kind of nondescript. It was a little difficult to hear due to the many diners, but I'm thankful Bijou is doing well in our downtown Hayward niche. It was a lovely evening.

Hayward's Best Kept Secret
This restaurant is one of Hayward's best kept secrets with a good selection of wine. My wife and I split a Asian pear salad and it was great and the split was just the right amount. We split an order of the Jalapeno Croquettes and they were awesome. My wife had the sautéed prawns and she enjoyed them but I had the grilled baby back ribs and we both thought they were to die for. Even though we ordered for the small plates menu we left the restaurant comfortably full and delighted. As I was eating my everything all I could think about was my next trip to the restaurant to try some of the other menu items. We had 7:00 pm reservations and were promptly seated and the Wait staff and attention was excellent. We're going back this weekend.

We were pleasantly surprised
We were pleasantly surprised at how absolutely scrumptious the beef bourguignonne turned out. In fact the entire prix fixe dinner was quite satisfying. Would definitely like to return!

Love this place
Really enjoy going to Bijou. Food, drinks and service always delightful. Cocktails creative and tasty. Try the sliders with quail egg, and definitely the croissant bread pudding. Lately I'm loving the Blueberry Smash cocktail.

better than expected
We had an excellent prix six dinner that we purchased on Living Social site. Very Euro stye decor, great food, presented beautifully, the waitstaff was on top of clearing dishes, refilling water glasses, and delivering the food in a timely fashion. We would definitely go back again, even without a coupon!

Fine dining in the heart of the Bay
It is delightful to discover French cuisine in downtown Hayward. While the food was very well prepared and a good value with our voucher from Travelzoo, but at full price it is rather steep. Service was excellent though perhaps a little too brisk. As a party of two, we enjoyed the dark, cozy ambience of the dining room, but the noise level was unacceptable for an intimate dinner.

Bijou review 5/14
Always solid! Tried some new dishes and the food did not disappoint. Service was very good and our server recognized us even though we have only been there 3-4 times. The Warriors were playing, so it was a little more "energetic" than usual.

The best dessert ever
I've been here a few times and the food is always good but the Crossiant pudding dessert is to die for!! It's a homerun every time! Catch a groupon or living social deal and you can get a pre-fixe meal for around $35 that includes a glass of champagne!

Ahi Tuna is the bomb!
Bought a deal from Living Social for $49.00 Pre fixe dinner menu. It was delish!!! Their Ahi Tuna and Baby Back ribs is a must try. The beef was just okay but again the Ahi Tuna was the best! The dessert was good too, double chocolate mousse. It's good to go there early so you can get to choose which table you'd like to be seated. Lots of parking space from the Century Theater. Oh and try the Pismo Punch too. It's good too.

Excellent food, excellent service and a modern, very nice atmosphere! The only negative thing would be that portions are a bit small, so just an FYI. Great place to go all around and they have a cool bar/lounge area. I would definitely recommend and is a must try!

Thank goodness for the busboy. If not for him we'd have died of thirst and been buried unused dishes. Waitress-after taking our order- only sailed by asking if we were ok; but never slowed enough for an answer.

The 'ToDo' about Bijou...
This will be short and sweet. The food was really delicious and I look forward to trying other items on the menu. The Service was on point! Very friendly and attentive for our whole dining experience. The only thing that knocked the rating down a bit was the fact that the ENTIRE restuarant was very dimly lit, and the lighting that did shine, appeared to show more of the 'beaten down' aspect of things. There were paint chips and stains almost everywhere, and the seats just looked very "used". I at one point, was kind of thankful that the lighting was low. Now I want to be clear, I didn't SEE nastiness, so I'll definitely dine there again. I did however see a restuarant that is in need of some TLC.

I love this place
Whether for great cocktails and yummy sliders or a full dinner, bijou is always a pleasure. That's why we always come back and we love to bring friends. Staff is attentive and they remember us. Bar staff come up with some winners, like Blueberry smash with infused vodka.

Would definitely eat at again
The service was excellent and our food was brought out quickly as we arrived before it really picked up. Food was pretty high end. Tasted great, subtle but strong flavors especially with the drinks. Servings are a bit on the small size for the rather steep price. Keep an eye out for voucher/deals from Living Social/AmazonDeals/Travelzoo -- the three course meal plus drink is pretty filling and well worth it! Given the chance I would love to try out some of the other foods and eat here again. I also highly recommend trying out the Ribs or Risotto Cakes. The choices and taste of drinks and cocktails do not disappoint. Arrive early because things will get a bit hectic and the noise level will get a bit louder.

Second time at Bijou. The food, service and ambience were perfect for those of us who dont get to go out often without the kids. Love the prix fixe menu. Very tasty and a good bargain. Will definitely go again.

Pricey lil Portions, Nice Ambience
So I get it you call yourself French so the portions are small. I mean this isn't tapas style, it's mini tapas style for the appetizers. We have a party of three and you get about 1 piece each of whatever it is your ordering. We had risotto and scallop ceviche for appetizers. 1 risotto ball each and 3 chips each for ceviche. Was it good? It was fair.
Dinner pan seared cod with mash potatoes, was definitely good! Portion was okay, lucky thing we were getting dessert too. You will not get our money's worth on food but the ambience makes up for it. I would go again for a special occasion with girlfriends..

Great Find in Hayward
What a great spot! You don't have to go to the city to find a place with high-end food and chic decor. Food was excellent. Tuna tartare and carpaccio were great appetizers. Seafood pasta was mostly seafood with a great sauce. Seared cod was delicious and one of the best creme brulees I've had. Super service, very attentive and polite staff.

Downtown Hayward Gem
It is wonderful to have an upscale eatery in Hayward. The emergence of the B street area, with the movie theater and eateries and other kinds of shops, is refreshing and fun. The decor is sort of New York jazz, and the food really good.

I often visit Bijou for the excellent cocktails they make. I've eaten there before, liked the food, but the portions always left me wanting. They've since introduced a pre-set menu with an appetizer, main course and dessert. We used a deal offering to try out the pre-set menu and were truly impressed. The beef carpaccio appetizer was incredible as was the pan seared salmon as an entree. I finished with the croissant bread pudding, and it was so good that it made me giggle inside. Top it off with a complimentary glass of decent champagne and it's a perfect date night. Thumbs up!

Gourmet dinner in Hayward
Even though downtown Hayward has a small, sleepy-town feel to it, the dinner experience at Bijou Restaurant was first class. I had the tuna tartare with an explosion of flavors, enhanced by the mustard or wasabi sauces (one in each side of the serving dish) for appetizers. May main dish, grilled salmon, was cooked to perfection. It was served with an interesting salsa and jasmine rice. The salsa did not necessarily go with the jasmine rice so I suggest that the chef finds another better suited accompaniment for the delicious salmon (au gratin potatoes?). My select dessert, creme brulee, was superb! Yes, I would come back to Le Bijou in other occasion. It was delicious!

Bijou is the Bomb
Just returned from Hawaii and did not feel like cooking. Still was in the mood for exotic dishes so we tried Bijou. Glad we did.The location was conviently located next to a parking lot. Upon entering we noticed the modern style decor which was very nice. Service was excellent and attentive.Food was served hot and were delicious. Especially tasty was the baby back ribs. Would not hesitate to return.

This was our second time.
This was our second time. The food was really, really, good the first time. The waitress told us the menu changed monthly. So we were looking forward to the changes. There weren't any. Not only was the menu the same - the menu sheets were the same, now stained and wrinkled! We ordered almost the exact same meal as before. While it was still good,there was a less attentive cook that night - appetizers a bit overcooked, too much pepper (chili?) in the sauce. Other things too. Not awful, just the difference between a great meal and a good one. Both times, the service people were nice, but not on top of things. They are all young and somewhat inexperienced. Still, we will go back. This place has real potential and is greatly needed in the area.

Ono-licious Ahi Tuna Tartare!!
We had one of the BEST Ahi Tuna Tartare's yet served with Tapioca chips that were out of this world. I wish I could make the chips myself...it was totally awesome. Our entrees were delicious, too: roast chicken & grilled cod fish...yummmm! We'll definitely be going back to Bijou!

Have been here several times and the food is always good. Usually we come here with a coupon so it's a great deal. We don't drink wine or champagne, so they are happy to give us non-alcoholic beverage instead. The only disappointment this time was that we didn't get bread and the fantastic chimichurri sauce that we usually get!

The service staff was friendly and attentive but not obtrusive. The super fresh and crusty bread and yummy dipping sauce was great. The carpaccio (my favorite!) and tuna tartare were excellent and large servings. My pork roast was a little tough but the sauce was delicious. Would have been nice to have even a small offering of gree vegetable with the pork. All in all, we enjoyed the atmosphere, the menu was excellent, the wine list fair. Bijou doesn't have a lot of competition in Hayward, in terms of fine dining, so we do hope they continue to make a go of it. We will definitely be back and will pass a positive review to our friends and neighbors.

Surprise gem in Hayward downtown
I was pleasantly surprised by this Hayward downtown restaurant. The service was great once were seated. The place was noisy, a little too loud for a nice dinner setting. The champagne that comes with the meal was good. We really like the appetizers. The salmon was good but the pork loin was a touch overcooked, and the sauce that comes with it was too sweet. The cream brule'e was good. Overall, it was a good dinning experience. We definitely will go back.

Good Dining Experience
This is an upscale restaurant in dowentown Hayward. The food is excellent and artfully presented. The service is attentive and friendly, but not intrusive. The noise level is "lively" with a full bar on one side of the restaurant. I always make reservations as they get busy on weekends.

A hidden Gem
This was the second trip to Bijou for my wife and I. The ambiance is good and the food is really good! The portions were a little bit smaller then from the prior year but I guess that is the way of the world now. Other then that the service was attentive and informative and we would definitely repeat.

Bijou is a Hayward neighborhood gem. To start, the atmosphere is swank yet welcoming. The bar is lively and the drinks are seasonably unique as well as the food menu. I've dined at the restaurant numerous times and have enjoyed a variety of the food items, from the small plates to a full dinner. My personal favorites have been: escargot, tuna tartare, lamb chops, rib eye & the list goes on. They don't skimp on quality nor freshness of ingredients. The cherry on top (for me) is that the service is equally as good as the food they put out. Bottom line, go and experience it for yourself.

We were greeted by the friendly hostess and was immediately sat, although we were early for our reservation. Our server was polite and attentive. She relayed the soup of the day and their special and was accommodating of our special requests. She was able to answer all our questions about ingredients in regards to my food allergy and was knowledgeable of their cocktail, beer, and wine lists. The food was amazing! We shared some small plates and each had an entree. The stand out dishes were the ahi tuna tartare, the scallops and risotto, and the croissant pudding for dessert. Our cocktails were well-crafted at their full bar, which uses fresh fruit. The ambiance was lively, but very hip. Good looking staff with great attitudes.
