Food was great, and had a really nice bottle of wine suggested by our server, both food and wine were reasonable priced. Casual high-energy atmosphere. We were seated at a table in the back with a view of the kitchen, perhaps not to everyone's liking, but we enjoyed the "show."

The food was amazing. Fresh and well catered. The service was just right, neither much or little. Il Buco is one of my local favourites. Will be back soon.

Big pleasures in small setting
We were looking for a pleasant early dinner after a matinee at the Public, and we found it, big time, at Il Buco: a friendly bar for a pre-dinner drink, followed by a wonderful meal in the smallish, charming room behind the bar. The service was both professional and very friendly; the wine steward helpful, the menu a bit unusual, but the food (everything we chose) simple, elegant and delicious. We shared the appetizers: oysters (outstanding), salumi and sausages, and each ordered our own entrees. The wine list was mostly Italian, mostly quite expensive, but there were great buys in the $40s to the $70s too. The cheese course at the end was a spectacular finish. We loved it and will return.

I love the ambiance of Il
I love the ambiance of Il Buco - like a comfortable dining room in a French family’s farm house. The food was outstanding! The house made egg pasta with shaved truffles was unbelievable good and the black kale, garlic-anchovy-lemon vinaigrette salad was refreshing. My husband loved the Hanger Steak and has not stopped talking about it. The Service was attentive, well-timed and friendly- Stephanie took fabulous care of us during the entire dinner and the Sommelier suggested a fabulous Italian wine. This is a favorite restaurnat of our's when we are in the city!

Very nice surprise
We had never been to Il Buco before and was pleasently surprised. The atmosphere was casual and old world comfort. You feel like your sitting in someones country kitchen. The food was prepared first rate, and all natural ingredients were used, including the tonic for my drink. I would go here again.
6/25/2013 12:00:00 AM
This place rocks still. I had my 40th here 14 years ago and still love it. The food is always fresh and lovingly prepared. The placeis beautiful, like someone's patio. We love it.

Very Enjoyable Experience
I think Il Buco is one of my favorite restaurants. The food and the service was very good and the ambiance was relaxed and interesting. We started with the cod croquettes and the squid with peas, and both were lovely. My husband had the swordfish and I had a very good pasta with sausage and broccoli. The decor is very pleasant and the noise level very manageable. I would certainly go back.

We were lucky enough to eat in the wine cellar and it was excellent. Quiet, charming and cool on what was an exceptionally hot night. It was my husbands 50th so this made it perfect. Upstairs was noisy (it was full in a Monday) and hot. The food was excellent. I tried dishes recommended by our server and both were great. Cost seemed reasonable given what we got. I'd read some reviews which went from "don't go" to "the best ever". I would say go, it was fantastic.

This is a fun and very trendy
This is a fun and very trendy restaurant with a "scene" and "seen" and the cuisine is creative and well presented. The staff knows the menu well and likes to talk about the offerings and also the interesting wine list.

true to its reputation
This restaurant has been around for many years and it remains true to its reputation of quality, good food, nice ambience and great service. Plus...the noise level is normal you can have a conversation with the people at your table. They now have the Il Buco alimentary that I heard is in line with its original sister location.

Delicious Food in a cozy atmosphere
The food at Il Buco is really delicious. The pastas were all exceptional and we really enjoyed the kale salad. The service was generally good. The hostess was kind and the sommelier was very helpful. However, our waitress left much be to desired. She wasn't very helpful when we asked for recommendations of what to order. She was short with us and honestly at times a touch nasty. We didn't let it ruin our meal but attitude was disappointing. .

My fave Italian place
I've been coming here for years. Always top notch. Always delicious.
8/6/2013 12:00:00 AM
the menu is eclectic. we got a lot to things to share and it was all outstanding. Even things that sounded a bit strange on the menu were absolutely delicious. You can't go wrong!
8/9/2013 12:00:00 AM
can't go wrong
Always reliable. Seasonal and daily menus. Fresh and in-house made food. good for any occasion. Great Vegetarian and Meat friendly options. One of my favorites in the city.

Just about perfect!
Despite listing me as a no show on open table (a mistake corrected) I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone and everyone. Try the Olive Oil Flight as an App - great presentation and introduction. Rissotto cooked to perfection. The setting is perfect - the attention to detail in selecting the antique furniture and decor has created an ambience that is perfect for lunch but I can only imagine how it creates amazing energy for dinner too. Definitely on my "must visit again" list.

It was fine
Lovely summer eating al fresco. Highly recommended.

Overall experience at Il Buco was excellent. I would definitely recommend this place to my friends and come back.
8/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
Some friends recommended us this place and we were not disappointed at all. This is the best place in NY! Great food, great service and great atmosphere!

Best Italian in NYC !!!
I have eaten at Il Buco many times now and truly it is awesome. The food is simple, fresh and creative. It never disappoints. And the famous kale salad is unbelievable.
8/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
I have been to many Italian restaurants but this one was very different in a good way. It wasn't your typical Italian dishes. Most of the dishes were Italian base with an added complimenting flavor or item. I was very impressed with how the chef made these dishes come together. We were fortunate enough to be seated in the wine cellar which was a treat. Our waiter was very good and very helpful explaining our dishes. But the thing that topped the night for me was the suggestion of the Chinoto after dinner drink from a person who might have been the wine person. Something I've never had and was amazing! Great evening.

One of NYC Best
Il Buco is a beautiful old friend that you never forget for consistency and always a delight. You can go out into the city and try the new hot restaurants but this beauty is hard to beat. Daily menu is always a surprising delight in its inventiveness and flavour.
If you haven't tried - get a Rez today.

The food, service and atmosphere
The food, service and atmosphere were all wonderful the night we dined at Il Buco. The charcuterie was absolutely wonderful. The chicken dish was spectacular. Juicy yet with crispy skin. The mackerel appetizer was excellent as well.
I would definitely put it at the top of neighborhood Italian restaurants in the city

Refined but flavorful Italian cuisine, great wine list, professional but warm and friendly service, beautiful room. Tapas selections were spectacular. Will return without a doubt.

The reservationist (English woman) has no sense of what a VIP is and was completely unhelpful, thankfully I was able to book through open table. The resaturant itself - wonderful including food, ambiance, service. A favorite!!!!

What a gem. Food was terrific, although the service was just a little slow. Our waitress kindly recommended wine choices to pair with our food. If you're looking for romantic and quiet, ask to be seated in the wine cellar. The upstairs can get quite loud.

Low key for delicious food
This is a small fairly tightly packed restaurant.
Lovely staff and very good food.
Lively and fun atmosphere.
9/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
As always, delicious
I have eaten at Il Buco on other occasions and the food is always delicious. The restaurant is very pretty, reminding one of a rustic setting, and the service is friendly and prompt.

One of the best meals of my life
Prawns. Perfectly cooked and succulent. Black kale ceasar was light and zesty. Amazingly good. Zuchini Soup was fantastic with pine nuts. The flying pig farm raised pork entree lived up to its reputation as a world class meat and entree. Wine selection is very good and more than complemented the meal. The sum of pairing was greater than the parts which is what I look for.

Not inexpensive, but worth
Not inexpensive, but worth every penny. I love to cook and am something of a "foodie," and I have never had a single morsel here that was not exquisite!
9/19/2013 5:00:00 PM
too good to talk about
This place is a great gem. Understated and really good food, in a great atmosphere. Almost afraid to swoon too much as I wouldn't want it to be overtaken by the less appreciative.
9/24/2013 12:00:00 AM
Atmospheric East Village charmer.
On the hottest street in NYC, Bond Street, Il Buco remains the class of the area. Smooth, knowledgeable and well trained staff; a menu with small dishes and carefully selected entrees make this a can't miss choice in a very competitive area.
9/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
Best Kale Salad in NYC
Couldn't believe how good it was. I know everyone is serving them and that are trendy BUT....this was insane. A twist on an awesome Caesar!
9/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
Very nice restaurant. Cozy. Food was very good. Would have liked a bit more privacy as we shared a table with only a flower pot seperating us

This is a place for foodies
This is a place for foodies IMHO. If you just want to eat dinner there many other options in the neighborhood. I'm not a big fan of food as art. That said, everything was very well prepared and delicious. We were seated in the wine cellar which was a stroke of luck as we had hoped for that. The waitress seemed somewhat overwhelmed by the number of tables and the fact that she had to go up and down a very narrow, steep stairway to get peoples orders, checks etc. We stuck to just the tapas-no entrees and were both satisfied with the amount of food. The wine selection is wery extensive. We had the cuttlefish, sweetbreads, Hawaiian prawns and the cauliflower soup was DELICIOUS!
9/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
As good as the first time
Our second meal at Il Buco was easily as good as the first. The place is a natural. Food, Wine, Service, Ambiance are all of a piece, Everyone is glad you are there, No one breaks a sweat. The wine steward was glad to make suggestions, and his first (the one we chose) was at a very reasonable price point, and a very drinkable wine. The waitstaff was friendly, available to offer advice or to answer questions (such as which cheeses to select). Best of all, the food was delicious. And we had all the time we wanted to finish it notwithstanding a full house and a busy bar. For our money, Il Buco is the best restaurant in the neighborhood, and we will return again and again..

Nice environment was created here
At Il Buco you will find an unique decoration with vintage looks and bespoke furniture. The wine list is extensive and the wine that we had was superb. The food quality is also outstanding. Only reason I didn't give 5 stars is that the portions could be a bit bigger (I'm a big guy) but otherwise great.
Service was great even though not too personal. Still, quite efficient and nothing to complain about. A good experience overall in the middle of Soho in Manhattan.

ask for a table in the basement
ask for a table in the basement wine cellar. It is very private, quiet and quite spectacular to be literally surrounded by hundreds of bottles. Even the cieling is a storage area.
10/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
Tucked away on a side street, this cozy Italian gem glows with warmth and ambiance. The food is delicious and the service exceptional. We will be back when we are in town again.
10/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
What a cute place! Loved the homey "farm-to-table" ambience. The food was very good, but we were puzzled by some of the descriptions, and a little intimidated by the menu. One of us had the lamb, and that was outstanding. We wished the menu would have included some less sophisticated choices, but everything we chose was excellent.
10/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
solid Italian old fashioned meal
Small plates make this place great for groups as you can experience a sampling of heavenly Italian/Mediterranean gems. Pastas are to die for. We dined downstairs in the wine cellar which was great as it was quieter. Do note that there are communal tables so if you're just a couple, you may have to share your table with others.

My new favorite NYC restaurant
Lured by the promise of a haunted wine cellar on Halloween night, we were soon distracted from the original gimmick by the complexities of the food, a wonderful wine suggested by the sommelier, unobtrusive service, and a warm ambience we were reluctant to leave hours later.
10/31/2013 12:00:00 AM
Warm and lovely
What a lovely restaurant! The excellent food, warm atmosphere and amazing service made for a great evening!

I have been to Il Buco several times and it is Always delightful. The menu changes often, but there are some itms that don't change and I love that.

Love for Il Buco
Delish food - we had the radish salad (nice and light), the mushroom risotto melted in your mouth and the spaghetti with cochelles. Amazing, genuine service from every member of the staff. Charming, warm ambiance.
11/6/2013 4:00:00 PM
Very very nice
Il Buco was recommended by a friend who is a friend of Donna.
Whenever I come to NYC I visit this place. I like the food combined with the atmosphere.

Nothing but good things!!!
This is a very popular restaurant, and yet, the staff (and owner) are all very warm and accommodating.
We were a party of three; an hour early and planning on sitting at the bar until the time of our reservation, but they immediately gave us a table.
Everything we ate was delicious: salami plate (small was galore too!), super fresh and creamy burrata, grilled cuttlefish, olive oil tasting (OMG!!!), homemade bread, wild mushroom risotto, the list goes on!
As we were leaving, one of my favorite rings flew off my finger and we were searching for it. A regular customer, staff and even the owner came out to help us. My gratitude is deep.
Hats off to this restaurant... one like we used to have a bunch of in NYC years back.
